Canada has population growth problem and government tried solving it by laxing immigration laws. For example Canada can't even build it's own car because it would take massive investment and it won't be profitable because of it's tiny population comparing to other countries therefor making the Canadian economy limited.

If you double immigration, then increase it every year for 4 years, cutting it back by 10% isnt making a defference.... if we had stayed on a reasonable growth scale instead of doubling immigration in 2021, then we would be letting in about 60% of the current target

Quebec actually has had its own immigration policy and section at Canadian embassies throughout the world. Those who wanted to immigrate to Canada found it easier and faster to immigrate through Quebec than through Canada in general. This was due to the French language requirements in order to increase the number of French speakers. However, many would abuse the system by immigrating to Quebec, then move to more anglophone provinces and cities like Toronto or Vancouver...

I for one love immigrants in Canada. They add colour, life and vibrancy to this country and we have so much to learn from each other.

This is because the Canadian government’s decade of unvetted immigration.

I have an issue to pick with the framing of policy change as “changing the rule in the middle of the match” because “the match” has a clear time stamp for beginning and end. So when would it be appropriate for the government to make changes? A soccer game last for about 90 minutes, how long should an immigration pathway last?

Very good report. The labour shortage will only grow as the population gets older. The Trudeau government tried to deal with it but may have gone too far. The Carney government is scaling back but eventually the reality of the labour shortage will dictate the direction. Is it dividing the country? Not sure but there are definitely two camps with business supporting immigration.

The government must take action on immigration laws. Especially focusing on local people welfare.

Well.. Arguably Nova Scotia had the advantage of being a eastern port with the potential to be greater GDP than Manhattan. Many people blame its zero or negative growth on restrictive immigration policy, whereas the USA pretty much just let everyone in. Mind you, nowadays you need to be making about $140,000 USD to survive as a renter in Manhattan, so - maybe it was the correct move.

Only in last 30 years, more immigration happened in Canada than in last 200 years.

Immigrants are vital to Canada's economic growth and demographic health. The challenges often attributed to them are largely consequences of policy gaps in integration, settlement support, and long-term infrastructure planning. Improving the system involves refining immigrant selection and focusing on successful inclusion rather than reducing numbers.

Should be zero immigration until Canadians first problems are corrected

I thought it was interesting how you point out Trudeau's policy changes, but don't point out the prior PM(Harper) removing the 6 week vetting period on TFW's and other anti-labour moves that also vastly increased immigration. Despite the government not properly integrating people or providing services for our own countrymen, this immigration has also staved off demographic collapse by several decades.

Thats not the only part of the problem. The native population also immigrated to other parts for better opportunities.

Immigration has certainly helped Canadian economy in a BIG way.

In 2015, seniors (65+) were ~16–17% of Canada’s population. In 2024–25, they are ~19–20%. After 10 years and 3.6+ million permanent immigrants, aging was not solved. Immigration didn’t fix aging — it was used as justification, not a solution.

Canada has substantially reduced immigration from 2025 onwards.
