Historically, tariffs have been imposed to support production of American goods. Think cotton, steel, other raw materials the U.S. used to produce in past centuries. For the past several decades, America has not produced many raw materials because it's cheaper to buy them from countries who can pay their workers less to keep the cost of production low. It's impossible to quickly begin producing these things here, so Trumplethinskin's tariffs will do nothing but piss off our trading partners and dramatically increase the prices Americans pay for a long list of essential goods. I see a major recession coming soon. If your goal was to close American car plants because the parts are too expensive and make it impossible for U.S. citizens to afford to feed their families, you've achieved it, King Donald ?
Detailed analysis of tariff economics, production costs, and predicted recession impacts on American consumers and industries.

If these companies can’t find workers, then why is our unemployment rate so high in 16 years?! It’s because they want cheap labour than to pay proper wages to a Canadian. If they up the pay, many unemployed would come forsure but not when paying peanuts
Argues that high unemployment contradicts labor shortage claims, attributing the issue to corporate wage suppression rather than labor availability—core economic reasoning.

People aren’t even talking about tourism because it’s not directly hit by tariffs. Over 20 billion dollars in 2024 spent by Canadians in the US for travel. Tons of people already cancelled any trips to the US to boycott. If even 10% less people go to US this year, upwards of 2 billion in tourism $ is gone , and roughly 14000 jobs estimated. \n\nImagine what else could be affected

Canada has a population of 40 million while the U.S. has 330 million. Take a wild guess why Canada has a trade surplus with the United States.

Oh dear. There was one line that has me more worried than any of them. “No matter what it costs we the federal government will be there for you.” Every time the government prints money and distributes it they decrease the value of our dollar. That’s how inflation works. Government doesn’t have any money. It takes the money from citizens and Re-distributes it. Please don’t help us by increasing government spending.
Commenter critiques government spending policies, arguing that redistribution causes inflation and devalues currency.

Many people do not understand how tariffs impact the importation of goods and services. Canada lacks the infrastructure to produce the minerals required for electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing. Additionally, Canada does not possess the same international influence as the United States, particularly in military matters. As a result, Canadians may face more significant challenges, as their economy relies more on U.S. trade than the United States' reliance on Canada. Overall, Canada has a less developed economy and limited global influence.
Detailed analysis of tariffs, trade dependencies, infrastructure, and economic disparities between Canada and the United States.
