6 months ago thycatalyst My grand parents left in the 40's and 50s, went to the UK and now we live in NZ. There is a complete disconnect between the old and new as well as the fact that assimilation simply isnt necessary because you can access all the culture (music, family/social connetion) on your phone. Previously you needed to integrate in order to survive; now life is more hermetic and as a result less integration occurs out of necessity. 9 pPbu_XcjFnQ

6 months ago lisam65-m5x I'm no expert, but it's obvious that mass immigration is detrimental to any country. Years ago, Canada seemed like a dream country, but in the last few years, it looks like the homelessness, crime etc. has increased and the housing prices are insane. I have a Sikh friend who lived there for about 5 years but moved back to India due to the high cost of living and quality of life there going downhill. He has a much better, low stress life back home. I think there should be stricter measures to immigration. For example: Let doctors, nurses, engineers, lawyers in more easily, but those that are coming as students and going to work as cashiers, should be limited. 0 pPbu_XcjFnQ

Culturally ofcourse it doesn't represent the core of Canadian society, but sikhs were heavily discriminated against when they first arrived, so were forced to fend for themselves and build businesses, trade amongst their own kind. It is also a well known fact that sikhs regardless of their age or status, always work and sustain themselves, you will never see a sikh on welfare. No one likes when what used to be majority population, their identity, their culture, their heritage is overtaken (or overshadowed) by immigrants. We see the same pattern repeating everywhere, which has something "better" to offer people compared to where they came from.
