Fentanyl is just a lame excuse. They can just work it out. I think Trump just want to get revenge because none of these world leaders sided with him when he claimed he won the 2020 election.\n\nAmericans, wake up! Trump is compromised. He is being hypnotized controlled by Putin.

These tariffs are about the US consumer to pay more for everything in order for Dump to recover money from working people to give tax cuts to the rich, nothing else. His lame excuse/lie that it's about fentanyl on the Canadian border is well known by people with commonsense. Let's see how long Dumps supporters will keep believing him when they along with every other American are getting it up the ass in inflation, of which Dump lied he would take care of from day 1. Just today, 1st day of tariffs, gas went from $2.55 to $3.09 in NM Buckle up folks!!!

I am never a fan of our Prime Minister but today, he got my full respect and admiration. We all know it is not about Fentanyl or illegal immigrants crossing from Canada as little as they were. Donald Trump is just using these as excuse. He is cozying up with US' one of two prime adversaries - Russia and China - and whacking friends and allies, alienating the United States. Donald Trump probably is considering authoritarian rule over democracy. I can't wait for the day that his dumb action will whack him back. Sorry Americans, you are still our friends, but not your government.

Fentanyl is just an excuse for the tarriffs as only 0.2% of Fentanyl crosses the border into the U.S. It’s drug cartels from South America that are trafficking the majority of drugs as well as gangs in the U.S. as well. \n\nBut it’s telling that Trump just ignores the fact that Americans themselves have a huge opioid crisis or what he’s doing to stop it but instead he’s blaming Canada which is just BS!\n\nTrump is a traitor to American Allies!

I support this more than Trump, and I'm sure the majority of Americans agree at this point.\n\nI can't stand the hypocrisy on immigration though. Canada has us as a buffer from a country desperate to get in, and they are still allowed to have very secure borders without getting flack.\n\nWhen America just doesn't want the faucet of immigration on full blast, we are the bad guys.\n\nThe Fentanyl excuse is absurd when it comes to Canada and the tariffs. It's a legitimate concern from the southern border. The northern border has never been an issue...

Canada, I stand with you as an American. This is not about fentanyl. Fentanyl is just Trumps excuse to crash the economy and cause chaos.

They aren’t “opponents” of Trump though… they are his “good friends”. He doesn’t want the allies America has always has. He wants Putin, he wants North Korea. Because they are the men he looks up to. Fentanyl coming from Canada was less than 1%. This was just an excuse for Trump. Trump wants to start WW 111 and start with Canada. Trump is old, he lived his life, he's not thinking about the young generations that ha e just started living. \n\nI believe that Trump is in with Putttin to give him classified information, knowing that he will not get away with his criminal charges so he can deflect to Russia where these is no Expedition treaty. The fentanyl excuse is just that an excuse, trump wants to make money from tariffs to give a huge tax break to the billionaires in the USA including musk, he is not worried at all about fentanyl, he doesn't care about other people, but he does care about tax breaks for himself and the billionaires who support him. I support Canada and Mexico in this trump fiasco, and I hope Canada and Mexico really make trump squirm. trump knows tariffs will hurt the US citizens but he knows it will hit the Lower and middle classes the hardest, not causing him and the billionaires nearly as much trouble. He is hoping that the tariffs will bring in enough money for him to be able to give the billionaires including himself a huge tax break.

Americans obviously didn’t understand what tariffs are, didn’t get that it’s an import tax which they must pay on goods and products they buy from Canada, a tax which tRump collects from Americans and uses to pay for tax-cuts for the richest citizens. But one more thing Americans don’t get is that before this fateful day an unofficial boycott against ALL US goods has been growing since tRump insulted Canada’s Prime Minister and threatened Canada’s sovereignty—whereas Canada’s official countervails ( which only kicked-in today )only target certain US goods, not ALL of them like ordinary Canadians are doing in growing numbers right now—in fact, the imposition of tRump’s tariffs today has only made the unofficial boycott bigger and more organized. It’s heartening that so many nations have solicited Canada, offering alternative sources for common US exports to Canada —citrus fruits, pharmaceuticals, and other manufactures, to name a few.\n\nI don’t think Canadians even realize how big this unofficial boycott is getting because it’s growing so fast. I’ve never seen a surge in Canadian patriotism like this. Never in my seven decades —which includes the two Referenda on Quebec separation. And there’s a federal election approaching when all partisans will be one-upping each other in the patriotism department—which manifests in more boycotts of US goods and hospitality services.\n\n Americans should know that the unofficial boycott is more harmful to US exporters than the official targeted countervails because it features immediate and longterm diminishment of Canadian purchases of US goods—all retailers know it’s very hard to recover lost customers once they’ve found alternatives (and the added patriotic effect only makes it worse). Included is diminishment of Canadian visits to the USA. Indeed, the internet is replete with testimonies of Canadian”snow birds” not only forgoing their annual sojourn in the Florida or Arizona sunshine but also of selling their properties there with the parting shot, “I will never vacation in the US again!” Already Mexico has seen its visits from Canadians (who have had a modest presence in Mexico for years) surge to unprecedented levels. I know from much-welcomed temp Mexican construction workers in BC (where I live) that they view Canadians completely differently from our mutual US neighbours—and now that affection is growing like never before. \n\nI’m continually amazed at how uninformed Americans are about tariffs—and misinformed by tRump and his goofy, preposterous, and ridiculous fantasy of world-domination. When tRump uses the lame excuse to implement emergency powers —that Canada is “allowing” (as Vance puts it) fentanyl to “pour into the USA”—it’s tantamount to saying Ukraine started the war with Russia. The man is a tendentious liar and narcissistic megalomaniac. \n\nI have faith that the great nation of the USA will reject tRump’s crazy policies—we all just have to hang on and let the needless suffering for both our nations (and the world with regard strategic alliances) play out until he either relents, is swamped in legal repercussions, is impeached, or otherwise removed from office!\n\nGood luck my American and Ukrainian friends!

It’s not about fentanyl at all. Donald Trump is just using that as an excuse. He is lying to the American people like he always does. Don’t back down Canada ?? do your worst!! Trump voters need to feel the pain to realize what they have voted for. I’m embarrassed and disgusted with America right now and who we are becoming. LOL ALL Fentanyl coming over the border is from the U.S. into Canada. It is just an excuse to try and get his military up here. It will not happen. We will meet them with UK troops, our troops and EU troops and others if we must so f him but Trump should really go have a little visit with King Charles.

We believe Mr. Trudeau is correct that the fentanyl issue is just an excuse to steamroll Trump's power onto the entire world.

How can one even measure the decrease in Fentanyl coming from Canada. Ridiculous excuse for creating a stupid trade war. What is the benefit of all these Tariffs, seems to be just downsides.

Let me explain the trading relationship briefly that occurs between Canada and the US for context. \n \nCanada Has a LOT of natural resources, more than our domestic manufacturing base needs (Uranium fuel, Lumber/paper products, Steel and other metals, Fertilizer for farms...etc). Therefore we sell those raw materials to the states where they are manufactured into goods, which we then buy back. a LOT of American service companies like tech, media (And yes, even banks)...etc also operates in Canada as well. (For the auto sector the parts flip back and forth across the border like 8 times) \n \nThis relationship alone has the American economy see a large trade surplus with Canada, however there is another element to it: Energy. \n \nCanada is also home to a LARGE amount of really cheap renewable hydro power in the east, and a LOT of oil in the west, due to a lack of infrastructure we really can only sell that oil to the states and therefore it is done at a discount. America refines this cheap oil into gas and is a large part of the reason why American gas is so cheap. They use this energy to power the same factories mentioned above. (Oh and also the NE states import a lot of that clean hydro electricity for the same reasons) \n \nThe US Buys SO MUCH of that cheap energy from us to power your industrial base, that it swings the numbers on the trade balance into a small deficit for the USA. (41 billion out of a TRILLION dollars total trade, or about -4.1% of total trade so literally a pretty small deficit) It also swing back and forth every year so \n \nThen comes Trump. He wants Canada as a 51st state and own the entire continent, therefore he manufactures an excurse that our border is leaky and that migrants and fentanyl are flowing over. (In actual case migrants and the flow of Fent is about 1% the amount that's crossing at the Mexico border but he needs an excuse) \n \nHe therefore puts 25% tariffs on us. Those tariffs will hit Canada harder than the 2008 financial crisis just for scale. \n \nOh and also for the most part American Refineries literally cant process any other oil than ours or Venezuela's because its thicker so tariffs on our oil will also really increase the priced of energy in the states by a huge amount just for the LOLs. As we've seen during the post covid recovery, since gas is priced in to the supply chain at every step (Manufacturing, transportation...etc), any increase at the pump will snowball into higher costs for everything at the store, on top of the extra cost of the tariffs on consumers. (Since every step will need to add it into their markup.)

Fentanyl is just an excuse. Pleasing the base is the idiot’s intention.

Isn’t it tragic that Trump is wreaking havoc with the fentanyl excuse by causing economic harm to Canada and Mexico while having an addict billionaire doing weird drugged out gestures while destroying the government and Americans’ lives on land, air and sea! Nero trump and Caligula Musk…just so dystopian!

The Fentanyl excuse is just a ruse to make it sound like the tariffs are for a noble cause. The real reason is to bloat the treasury in order to give himself and his billionaire friends a multi-trillion dollar tax break.

So if Mexico and Canada somehow stop the flow of fentanyl into the United States \nis Trump in return going to bring in adequate gun control laws so that the flow of smuggled American guns into Mexico and Canada is stopped?\nMexico and Canada should demand that in return.\nSmuggled American guns are responsible for a huge proportion of the shootings and murders in Mexico and in Canada.\n\nAnd I doubt very much that there is significantly more fentanlyl entering the United States from Canada than is entering Canada from the United States.\n\nAnd completely stopping the flow of fentanlyl sounds like magic.\nIt's impossible.\n\nAnd the whole reason for the movement of fentanlyl is the demand in the United States \nso even if Mexico and Canada could completely stop the flow of fentanlyl \nthere will still be fentanlyl in the United States - either imported or produced in the United States.\n\nI don't believe that Trump doesn't really cares about fentanlyl addicts.\nHe just wants an excuse to be a bully and to express his xenophobia.\nWho believes Trump really cares about fentanlyl addicts? Nobody.
