5:50 I agree, I'm thankful the government is starting to revoke / cancel visas to try to get a handle on things. This goes beyond just Indian people. It's for all people that immigrate to our country. I agree, I think if people come to my country, they need to assimilate. Learn our languages, understand our culture and integrate. I feel that they need to create another sector to follow up on visas, check in on people, monitor. I also feel the banks need to monitor the amount of money people are sending back home, I understand some money. But not everything.

Just wanna say, cause I don't think its said enough, I commend the journalistic integrity that you started out with and maintain throughout your work. Thank you for your commitment to hearing many sides of the story. My brother is a journalist in NYC and he also amplifies voices that are so often drowned out by louder, flashier ones. As a Canadian, who was born in South Africa, but have grown up in BC since elementary school, I feel incredibly grateful for the opportunity this country has given my family. We all work hard to build on the values shared in this nation. I love learning about aspects of Canada that I am unfamiliar with, but ultimately help shape its identity. 🙏

Thank you for this report on Brampton. For context, I am a 4th generation Canadian, my ancestors immigrated here a few years prior to confederation in 1867. I have worked in the tool and die industry for decades and many of my associates work for or manage tool and die businesses in Brampton. Everyone in Brampton knows what is changing there. When I try to explain to my friends that what is happening in Brampton is not balanced, they do not understand, they think I am a racist. I told them that my Indian friends in Brampton feel the same way I do. They look at me like a deer in the headlights. Nothing has turned me against a politician so vehemently as Justin Trudeau's management of immigration. The man had no idea how to effectively manage immigration in a way which would integrate people into a culture and society such as Canada. That certainly is not creating a microcosm of one nation in a city.

For nearly 20 years, Conservatives have been warning Canadians about the challenges we are now facing but every time, they were dismissed and branded as “racist” for simply pointing out the obvious. Meanwhile, grassroots Canadians along with immigrants who came here in the ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s had one goal in mind to work hard, build a better life, and help "make Canada a stronger and more prosperous country". Their efforts over the last 60 years are clear in the Canada we inherited. In contrast, the Liberal and NDP approach has been to ignore these warnings and push policies that are eroding the very foundations of what made this country thrive. Instead of focusing on integration, responsibility, and opportunity, they are enabling divisions and importing problems rather than solutions. So, to the commenters who keep voting Liberal and NDP: thank you because you are ensuring this decline will continue.

As you can tell from my name I am an immigrant from India. Been in this part of the world for almost 40 years. Educated from kindergarten with English as medium of instruction, a post graduate degree, in IT - one of the first things I did was watch, listen and learn how things are done here. Quickly acquired accent neutrality. Please and thank you . Not litter every where. I came here on my own. Nobody requested me to come here. I considered it a privilege and I took it as my obligation to integrate, not import my values or culture here. I worked, paid my taxes and never expected a handout from anybody or from the government. I loved to be the brown dot in a sea of white. I loved my new country. After the pandemic years, things have changed. There has been a sudden browning of Canada. I didn't leave India 40 odd years ago for India to come to me. NO, I am not being racist and it is not just the visual browning either. The loud, non English speaking, profusely littering, rude, entitlement-minded, anti-social, riffraff that seem to have found their way here displacing the native, white Canadians. I so miss the "eh". I miss the polite society. Wherever I go, I see a sea of immigrants speaking their own tongue. Rude, misbehaved. Cutting you off in line. Discarding the shopping cart any where they please. I am getting older every year and I do not want to die in a country that is suddenly so foreign to me. I would love my old Canada back, please. I want my "eh"s back please. I did my part in the last elections, but lost out to "them". Are we at a point, where we can never get the old Canada back??????

The reason for this 'trade war' is not about 'trade'. It's about 'creating chaos' so that president Trump is the 'centre' of world attention. A malignant naracistic individual apparently cannot have anyone seemingly to be 'doing better' or being more successful than he is. Canada ?? is a very successful nation and because of its economic success it is creating envy and apparently hatred in certain individuals who view the success of Canada ?? as a threat to themselves. The USA now apparently cannot see the value of a strong and stable economy as its near neighbours. Thats why apparently there are some who now want to crash the Canadian economy and when times then 'get tough' the blame and responsibility for this chaos will be accepted by whom. Presidents and Prime Ministers come and go. Once their 'term is over' they simply 'walk away'. World leaders need to be men or women of integrity and honesty who 'do the right thing'. With 'great power' comes 'great responsibility'. You only 'give responsibility' to someone who has the wisdom and expertise and understanding in order to both 'hold' and 'govern' wisely and without fear or favor. Maybe its time for others in positions of authority in other institutions to step in and 'take control'. You would never let a child drive a super car on the highway so how much 'damage' has to happen before a world leader is not 'held to account' and his 'hands removed' from the steering wheel before there is a motor accident so large that the freeway is rendered unless and has to be totally shut down your. You cannot have total power in the hands of individuals who apparently do not possess the necessary skills knowledge and experience and wisdom that is required to fulfil the role they were elected to fulfil. A person with the mind and mentality of a child apparently is not a fit person to be running the economy of any nation. May Canada ?? remember its roots and may we all be thankful for true and honest leaders who have integrity and do and say the right thing. Thank you Mr Prime minister. I don't care what anyone says, but Indian people, particularly (Punjabs) don't like to mixed with other cultures at all. They don't integrate with the Canadian lifestyle. This was nine years ago, Canada's Indigenous Peoples still do not have access to clean water . The Indian's protestors will have to wait in the queue. On another note it is sad how the Trudeau government has betrayed and abandoned Canadians. Governments' priorities are first and foremost to their citizens but in Trudeau's Canada, it is citizens last! This is not an issue of racism. Canadians want immigration based on ethics and integrity and not on fraudulent or unscrupulous means.

I am West Indian, descendent of India indentured workers. I love my country of birth, Canada where I have lived since 3, and I have much love and pride in my Indian roots. That being said, I have come to feel embarrassed of being taken for East Indian by other Canadian people. I moved to small city outside of Toronto in 2004. I loved it here! People were so welcoming, kind, friendly. I felt no prejudicial treatment from any of my neighbours. \nFast forward, my little city is now overrun with new Indian immigrants. I can’t tell if I am in the heart of Toronto or Brampton or my city of Oshawa. \nThe Indian people I encounter in the grocery store are pushy, have no Canadian manners, speak their language loudly, come to the stores with their entire family which fills up the isles and cause long lines. All the sale items are sold out by the time you get there because Indians are filling their cart with as much as they can purchase of any of the on sale merchandise. This never happened before. \nI am also saddened by being assaulted when an Indian person passes by and wave of body order sickens me. I don’t understand what the cause of that is. Not bathing regularly or not using deodorant. But I notice this everywhere I come in contact with Indians, men and women, young and old. \nI feel like I will be mistaken for East Indian myself which I have been when I went to the hospital. I was treated like I couldn’t speak English lol\nThe worst is the Muslims, they are the rudest the way they fill every available free space, make women feel uncomfortable and are just intrusive and unable to incorporate themselves with other Canadians. They also have a superiority attitude. \nThis is a plan honest list of observations. I hope they learn to integrate with Canadian culture, improve their language skills and learn proper hygiene. These people are not thankful to the country, which helped them with a great standard of living.. Clearly, they can't be integrated into British culture. They should go to the countries with Sharia law if they don't like the law in the UK. It shows there is a reason for being Islamophobic.

As a child of first generation immigrants and now lived here for 80% of my life and calling Canada my home, I empathize with how difficult coming to a new country is and the generosity of Canadians. I'm proof that the Canadian dream is possible; thanks to my teachers, social workers, friends, and community at large, I now make more money than both my parents combined, have a house and 2 dogs. While there's hard work at play, it's also the warmth of everyone that's made this a reality. I hope we can have a realistic and win-win plan of integrating immigrants, provide immigrants and residents the opportunity to work hard towards their dreams so we can ALL live a better life.

Highly skilled immigrants from India are always welcome anywhere, like in the US where they have added tlmutiple times to the economy. Canada, unfortunately, is importing from Punjab ,low skilled labour that eats into Candian quality of life. These youth from Punjab can't integrate and is a burden to the economy, as they rake up zero value adding jobs. Truck driving and RE realtor don't add any value to the economy. Thanks the NDP and Liberals for encouraging import of Punjabis, who they turn into their vote bank.

I blame the agencies, I blame the people themselves who go just crazy when they are told how much they will earn, I blame to our people for not getting the right information that they end up being refugees, I also blame people of lack of honesty, integrity and openess...others are cheated just like: just come as a visitor halafu uishie...which is not good at all. Thanks Lynn for your sistery advice...that we develop our structures and we shall be fine...these european countries took each cent to their proper use that is why they are this far...so I say that it's also our leadership which can save these miserable situations which make people suffer. Oh and don’t forget that one particular province still has a sizeable proportion that wants to secede. Toronto does not represent the rest of the country. Quebec has a first right of refusal if the person doesn’t speak French. But usually Ottawa deports the ones that have integrated perfectly into Quebec society. Ottawa doesn’t want Quebec to leave and thus has played the immigration game to increase its supporters via new arrivals. There has always been two countries in Canada, and the English speaking one has always tried to drown out the French speaking one. For over 150 years, French speaking immigrants were banned from entering the country. You can thank the American revolution political refugees for that.

Canada is what you make of it. You can arrive rich and end up poor and you can arrive poor and end up rich. In between that, you can have a great life that balances your needs. I’ve seen immigrants succeed simply because they see the opportunity in front of them . They worked hard in their own counties to stay just above the poverty line ,but when they apply that same effort here it pays off ten times greater. I feel that compared to a lot of immigrants, natural born Canadians come across as spoiled and a little lazy…we are. We haven’t had to struggle the same way someone from a poorer country might have. I’ve talked to people who’ve worked ten to twelve hours a day just to stay afloat. If you did that here you could make plenty of money to live and have some left over. As far as owning a house goes,yes it’s expensive . I feel that homeownership in any country is relatively expensive. Here is a tip; use that soaring home prices to your advantage. Houses are expensive but you can make a lot of money buying and selling. I recommend putting together a buyers group and share the house for a few years, then sell at a profit, buy a bigger house or two smaller houses.try to buy the worst house in the best neighbourhood and fix it up slowly . That house could double in value in five or six years in the Toronto market. This is nothing new of course ,the people from India and China seem to do this a lot here ,it drives up prices and profits. On the downside to this ,you are now part of the problem. As the housing prices are driven up the non wealthy can no longer afford to own a house . They are at the mercy of high rents with no rewards of ownership. They are caught in a cycle of hard work and (relative)poverty. This could also be you if you can’t keep up the house payments and are forced to rent.\nHow well you speak English is important but your native language is also useful here because Canada is half immigrants . As a Canadian that speaks only english (Irish descent)I have to say to all newcomers that I’m very impressed that you have learned a new language and that you may even speak more than two! Don’t be embarrassed about your abilities . I find that in my experience , Canadians do not look down on people just because they don’t know English. In fact ,I’ve known people that have lived here for decades and still know very little English. They are comfortable in their communities and they function just fine. Learn as much English as suits your needs and be proud of any gains you make.\nOutside of Toronto are other cities that you might consider when looking at southern Ontario.From my experience,most are generally the same, just not as big . There are large immigrant communities in London Ontario, Hamilton and just outside of Toronto where housing is just a little bit less expensive but the commute to work is probably longer. This is just my opinion but in the small towns there are less people of colour , (which is what people of no colour call everyone else . I wonder if I’m called a person of no colour in some other culture ? LoL ). That might make it harder for you to feel integrated ,if that’s what you want. I’m not saying that people from other cultures can’t make it in a small town , I’m just saying that it’s definitely not Toronto . Here, people of any nationality can feel like they have a place where they can belong . It seems that no matter where you are from ,there is a community already here that’s set up restaurants and stores and clothing shops and newcomer support systems. And if your from Portugal or China or India or Africa or the Middle East, there are large groups of your kin here that have established roots for generations and you probably know this already.\nToronto means meeting place and that becomes evident quickly. I was born here and it’s one of the things I love the most about my city. I’m not going to say that there isn’t systemic racism here ,the people of no colour still kind of keep the top position , but as we become a minority in a decade or so ,I hope that will shift to a broader spectrum. It’s certainly happening already. One good thing is that the police department tries to hire people of colour so that racialism may play a smaller role. We’re getting used to seeing our politicians more and more reflect their constituents.\nI have to talk about the weather. Because I’m from here I’m used to the extremes of minus thirty and plus thirty . Eventually you get used to it (somewhat). Dressing in the right clothes is important. Summer is easy , but winter is different. It’s trying to kill you. Spend the most that you can afford on winter cloths . If you can afford a quality parka you should get one. The hood can be drawn around the face and stay out of the wind.\nIf not ,think of layers with a outer layer that blocks the wind. We have things called long Johns that are basically full length thick cotton or nylon pants that go on under your pants and a pair of extra thick socks. Buy your boots to fit your thick socks. Try to get the best boots you can afford ,it’s something that you might spend a little extra for but never regret.\nAll in all we are a fairly organized and peaceful society. Most people are friendly and will give you a chance . We have a good social safety net here and you don’t have to be homeless or starving if you don’t want to. There are people and organizations set up to help ,that truly try to get people back on their feet. It’s a good investment that pays off in ways that matter for the quality of life in a big city. I’m not putting my American neighbours down when I say they do things differently. They have their ways ,we have ours. This is just something that we do because we’re trying to learn how to help those that society has discarded or can’t find their place. Sure we have one or two areas where the homeless have pitched tents and we have some resources for them if they want. Unfortunately The mayor recently forced a small camp to move from a very visible place to more scattered locations. There were social workers involved as well as protesters trying to protect them. I didn’t like that happening and I want to see even more resources dedicated to them ,but on the other hand ,we are trying to avoid something like what happens on the streets when it’s just ignored. When I see YouTube videos of the streets of Philadelphia I’m extremely saddened. I thank the lucky stars that I was born in Toronto Canada.\nFor all it’s pollution and expense and crowds ,I think it’s a great place to do almost anything your heart desires . For every ugly building there is a beautiful park ,for every honked horn there is a birds call , for every cold and dark day there is beautiful sunny one around the corner.
