My parents came to Canada over 30 years ago with employable skills and money to support ourselves. We go through Canadian education system, get Canadian jobs and pay Canadian taxes. We still celebrate our own heritage with food and holiday but we do them in our own house. Not sticking into people’s faces. I feel that’s how immigration should be like. Not hordes of illegals and refugees that ruins our society and cost us loads of tax payer dollars. Now with Canada being India land, I’ll have no choice but leave this country eventually, I’ll have no choice but finding a better place to retire.

Why come to Canada to go to community colleges. Because most of the schools they are attending are in strip malls. Those people should not be here. If they are not smart enough for a university entry, they are not the brain power we want. Those schools should be closed and a head count mandatory. We don't need the truck drivers or waitstaff at restaurants. The businesses that are only employing students that are from India need to be fined and held accountable. They are using government funding for their wages these are jobs that Canadians need and are rejected because the are not from India. It is racist and why should our taxes pay their wage while Canadian students are left with no jobs to help with the cost of university or housing.

Employers should be aware of SINs before hiring people. I am also an immigrant, but my dad worked hard as a skilled worker to bring us here to Canada. I pay my duly taxes monthly and yearly. So I find it unfair when people work under the table. However, I've noticed that some students, who never attend their classes, end up in high positions with well-paying jobs at big companies. Meanwhile, I can't count how many refugees and immigrants are in low-income brackets, receiving 100% coverage for their medication and a monthly allowance from the government. In contrast, Canadian senior citizens still have to pay 20-30% of their medication costs and don't get the same privileges when it comes to their essentials. It frustrates me that the government makes our senior citizens suffer at retirement age, even after they've worked so hard for so many years. Yet they still struggle to pay for their own medication and necessities. I've encountered many rude refugees and people on income support from other countries who feel entitled to special treatment just because they are under government programs. Ironically, some of them come wearing luxury clothes and bags—like Gucci and Louis Vuitton. As I said, I am an immigrant too, but my heart goes out to those who have fully earned the support and benefits they deserve.

I live in Brampton, i am all for diversity but where is the diversity if everyone is Indian. I am French originally and i am in a minority of one! Let's be clear, the massive Indian increase in the population is due to Trudeau's immigration policy, the indians did not jump over the border as some of the comments suggest, they mostly came here legally, and this was done without broad agreement of the Canadian population as a whole. Canadian population went from being 30 million inhabitants to 40 millions in just over a decade, a massive population increase in a short time due mostly to Indian immigration with huge impact on housing , cost of housing, infrastructure, jobs, taxes, etc... The liberals have a lot to answer for the disaster which Canada has become in the last 10 years and yes they got rid off Trudeau, but they are still in power, stiffling the potential economic growth of Canada which should be a rich country instead of being a country where many people live from pay cheques to pay cheques.

Ok so Indians who came to Canada in 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s they tried to a assimilate but the whites never let them. They were racists, never gave them equal opportunities, always belittled them. No doubt about it, Canada is for Canadians. If you wanted to, you could deport millions of immigrants, but let's be real about the cost. The Canadian economy, its pensions, its farms, and its health sector all rely on immigrants to pay taxes and fill jobs. It's not some big conspiracy about population replacement; it's just about the economy. You can't have one without the other. Canadians aren't the only ones dealing with this. In Asia and Africa, it's a different kind of immigrant, the ones with money who buy up land and property, driving locals out of the market. They're not given an ear either, because money talks. It’s always been about the money and the power, and Canadians should understand that perspective too. The culture or religion of a few bad apples shouldn’t be used to tarnish every immigrant. We do need to do a better job screening people, but it’s not fair to paint everyone with the same brush. In the U.S., Indian immigrants are top earners and incredibly successful, but people still complain that they’re "taking their jobs." So, if an Indian person is a failure, they're a problem. If they're a success, they're still a problem. They can't win. This old colonial mindset is alive and well. It's tough for some people to process that a person of color can outsmart them and rise up by their own bootstrap. But when those same folks go to Asia or Africa, suddenly they feel that old nostalgia and are much more comfortable with the social hierarchy there. It would be ideal if no one had to leave their home country for a better life. When we have more justice in the world for everyone, maybe we won't have to keep having these conversations.

People are hating unfairly on immigrants when it is the government is at fault for not managing immigration better. Let's not forget that Canada was built on immigration and collectively most immigrants do contribute to the good of Canadian society. I am an immigrant, I have never felt that any one group is forcing anything on me. I live my life, pay taxes, do my civic duties , mind my business , don't bother anyone and try to get along with everyone regardless . Yet I have been verbally attacked several times because I am non white. So I often wonder who is truly Canadian and if you are of "colour" will you forever be a hyphenated Canadian even if you are 3, 4 , 5 th or multigenerational born and bred in Canada. Maybe he should discuss the constant duty fees and border crossing fees for anything shipped from Canada to the USA that have been constantly rising for years; fees that his very own government sets. Maybe he should talk about Canada demanding that anyone that sells anything foodwise to anyone in Canada from the USA has to have a special Safe Food For Canadians Food License or the goods being shipped will be rejected at the US owners cost, seized by the border and held in storage at the US owners cost, and destroyed and billed to the US owner. A license that no one actually needs considering other legal and ethical controls are in place to prevent unsafe foods from crossing the border, but Canada reserves the right to make us pay for one or we suffer consequences. Maybe he should discuss how they left their borders open to migrants, making it much easier for criminal migrants to get into the US. These tariffs were a long time coming and if any of you are on the inside of trade in the manner I am, then you know what I'm saying is true. The US is constantly paying additional tariffs by way of duty fees, customs fees, certain applied taxes (like there is literally a blueberry tax to ship US grown blueberries into Canada to prevent US blueberries from taking over the Canadian blueberry market). The blueberry tax is about 25cents per lb. which drives the price per lb. up for the seller and buyer. You wanna know why Food costs so much? All of the above with a huge side helping of GREED.

As far as healthcare goes the US is a 3rd world country, where, only the rich can afford to see a doctor, or visit a hospital. You have thousands of people living on the streets, with NO help, or concern. Yes I was, after Trump got elected no. Disabled human rights are horrible here and as compensation for lawsuits can be capped in cases that is unlikely to change. I should state the government had to pay me $25,000 dollars for violating my rights (this cost me $35,000+ in legal fees!) so I know of what I speak. It was the same when I moved provinces. In terms of mobility my fate was better in the 4 third world countries I visited after my stroke, there are no busses in loads of places here as we can’t “afford” them. Usually, international students have to pay most of this money before applying for the study visa. \n\n\n2. These colleges employ Canadians for their day to day operations. From cleaning, maintainance, administration to teaching, each college operates with approx 20-30million budget. So, more students lead to more employment for Canadians who further pay taxes.\n\n\n3. All students start work straightaway, pay taxes, and do not qualify for social security. They do not qualify for any student loans by Canadian govt or banks. So, they generate revenue for Canada through their work and taxes. The thing that govt LOVES.\n\n\n4. These students become new consumers and their expenditure generate revenues for local businesses.\n\n\n5. Most Colleges would not survive without international students. Which is good in the sense that only quality colleges will survive and other hanky panky colleges would shut down. It's Not enough and this was Not Fair! We came here in this country and vetted for 6 years by Immigration and all proper education requirements met. My mom worked so hard to be able to come into this Country when I was 14yrs old, there were Rules and Criteria. Now, it's all a Joke. People can come into Canada without proper oversight and Money works. As long as you have huge sums to pay, they let you in, easily, 3months you get Permanent Resident status, we worked hard for 6 years, even doesn't matter if you're a criminal from back home, they let you in, as long as you have money. No proper Vetting process! What has this Current government done to this once great country? They ruined this whole Canadian immigration dream for everyone. My family feels angry and cheated on! My daughter is nearing the end of 2 great years in Canada on an IEC (backpacker) visa from Australia. She’s loved the people, the landscape (mostly lived in BC and Alberta) , and working there…. She picked up interesting jobs, worked very hard, just about made ends meet, has been great. \n\nShe was even offered a permanent job by a major Canadian co last year (she was working for them on a one year role at the time) that would’ve paved the way for her to apply for PR…but she turned it down without a second thought….. for all the reasons you would know about \n\n- Wages aren’t great (maybe 20% less than australia), \n\n- taxes are high (incl having to pay CPP…in australia the employer pays all pension contributions, on top of wages), \n\n- groceries prices out of kilter, \n\n- rents consume most of what’s left…. \n\n- AND, even if you could save a deposit for a house, or shoebox apartment….what’s the point, could never afford it. \n\nShe’s seen nearly all her Canadian friends resigned to their fate of being perennial renters, of being perpetually skint. It’s no life. She’s sad to see it - coming from a country of perpetual optimism and opportunity, to learn over time how such a (on many levels) similar country isn’t like that, that has somehow got it all so wrong. \n\nIf you are thinking of “australia” as your answer, it’d be a fair call\n\n- Avoid Sydney if you can (a less expensive Vancouver) but rest of the place is “workable”. \n\n- Average wage in Perth is $100k (C$90k) and average house (full size…not an apt or townhouse) price is about $700k (C$630k) …so do-able, if tight to start with, for youngsters (like you..!) \n\n- I’ve been to Vancouver’s East Hastings St, and so can confirm is nowhere close to that in Oz. Yes, it's out of control now. I am not against internet student but they should know their limitations. Giving them working permit is a privilege already. How about us Canadian who pay their taxes. Spouses of international student shouldn't be given a working visa. Now we are having a hard time to find a job. Even me it's more than a year now that I can't find a job. Okay. To begin with, being white does not automatically make one Canadian. Immigration is the foundation of Canada; it is all about which generation of immigrant you are. The one mistake Canada made was to accept an excessive number of immigrants and students during a short period of time. This allowed students to work full-time employment, defeating the purpose of student visas. Why is no one discussing asylum seekers or refugees, which has made matters worse? All amenities, housing, etc., are provided to refugees using taxpayer funds. The money paid by taxpayers is meant to be used by those who made the tax payments. \n\nAll legal immigrants pay substantial fees and continue to pay taxes while they are employed, none of which has an impact on the economy. \n\nEmployers always give preference to Canadians with the necessary abilities over immigrants, even if the latter have higher skill levels. Despite having excellent credentials and expertise, I was not selected for any interview because I am not Canadian. Thus, give up lying and acting like the victim. Concentrate on the real issue. You are the preferred candidate for any employer if you are Canadian and meet the requirements.

I am a Serbian and Canadian living in Canada for the last 24 years. I love \nthis country I respect this country but my God is so much different than it used to be or it is me. This summer I went with my kids and wife to 6 different countries in Europe Eastern Europe and Central and have seen 2 alcoholic then I come to Canada I see thousands of drug addicts on the street. everything is overpriced ppl do not enjoy in here. When I came in 2000 Serbian economy was low due to the war now it is better and Canadian economy is worse so the gap is very small. you need to make 6000$ to live just ok and I do live well but there is always but. I call it a pressure cooker, I wish all Canadian travel abroad a bit just to realize that they were lied too and that there's a lot of bs. I can give you an example: Condo in Belgrade same size property tax is 200$ per year condo in Qc Gatineau 2500$ plus condo fees 400$ per month basically 7000$ wasted for what? no dr wholes on the street broken system. It will be for sale. I agree paying taxes on my house where I live but for rental property when you deduct all the expenses you invested so much money without any profit. the one that works and the one that scams the system make the same amount of money and we live approx the same. something is wrong there. I will live for many years to come but definitely not spending my whole life here due to many circumstances and expenses. Family values are getting killed and I have issues with that. Many countries do not allow this and we have many who hold Canadian citizenship but don't pay their fair share of income taxes (because they work in another country) and only show up once every six months to acess health care services.

I feel you. I have a somewhat similar upbringing. Immigrated to Canada, from Lebanon, when I was 7 (with my family), so 42 years and I consider myself to be Canadian. And I've always justified paying our high taxes as the price we have to pay for the great services we have. As an Indian student, i would like to share with you my perspective \n1) you will never see me dancing in public, blasting music and littering \n\nI actually spend my sundays cleaning plastic from trails \n\n2) i am a full time student for 4 years funding over 90 grand for a bachelor on top of that paying my taxes and paying 1100$ a month for rent being limited to 24 hours a week I do not work outside campus I work the job the college provided to me \n\nThe problem comes up when people use the 1 year and 6 month diploma program to enter the country and work here full time \n\nThey associate themselves only with indians mainly because they cant speak the English language fluently \nTherefore they associate with the exact people they associated with back home \n\nHow will they adapt to a new country if they hang out with the same people \n\n\nI came to canada with a goal \n\nTo make Canadian friends \nLearn about Canadian culture \nStart a new life \nAnd work my ass off to get my degree \n\n\nMost people move here to make more money \n\nThey sell their land and do so \n\nPlease do not associate hard working indians who adapt and leave their past behind with these people who have come here purely to exploit the system\n\n\nTrust me I know it's hard to hear this but good Indians do exist. I have so many Canadian friends who love me as much as I love them. I know how hard you guys work and I am so amazed at how well you carry yourself through this hard time I unfortunately happen to be Indian something I cannot control and I have been a victim to so much discrimination and hate just because I happen to be born in India it's crazy. \n\nWe are respectful Indians we do exist we do have Canadian friends we do adapt to Canadian values and we work hard for the land that gave us this wonderful opportunity to grow . We have the right to a good life just as much as each and every one of you . We have family we have People we love and we have sacrificed a lot please don't demonize each and every one of us because of the ones who don't know how to behave

It is absolutely laughable that anyone would ignore the degradation of Canada thanks to the insane immigration policies that are both exploitative and predatory. I work in a field where I speak with hundreds of Canadians a month, and the ratio of immigrant to Canadian born individual I speak to is 4:1. The problem is NOT with the immigrants but the policies, and those of us who work and pay taxes who essentially support the integration/lifestyle of some of these immigrants should NOT be shamed into hiding for expressing our concerns. Canada has to reform all immigration policies immediately. Let’s get housing, healthcare and public services in place before we allow hundreds of thousands more people into Canada.

There are now quite a few news stories in Canada of immigrants leaving the country - some back home and others to the USA and other places. Many just get a Canadian passport and then leave. There are public health care and pensions, so it can be an asset and also a convenient travel document to have. A lot of Canadian university graduates have a very hard time finding work in their fields and a lot of them look to the US for a better future. Both immigration and unemployment in Canada are much higher that in the US - so more people are chasing fewer jobs that often pay less and are taxed more than in the USA. Opportunities are generally a lot fewer in Canada than the US, and the business environment is not as favourable, and taxes significantly higher. You would be getting some of the entrepreneurs from Canada moving to the US for more favourable conditions as well to launch a business and also now a lot more rich investor types, so-called high net worth individuals wanting to relocate, because they just raised the capital gains tax in Canada. Capital gains is also triggered on inheritance in Canada with a deemed sale of property and assets, so rich people would prefer the American system and want to be residents there for tax purposes and have their assets grow in value in the US compared to Canada. There are very large numbers of foreign students and other categories of immigrants which may have as their goal going to the US after getting a temporary visa to Canada which is easy to get - maybe something like half a million to a million people in those categories depending on the year, plus around another half million regular immigrants and refugees now. The Trudeau administration has increased immigration to record numbers. It has been steadily going up over the years for several decades since 1990. Because of family re-unification it can have a snowball effect and could significantly exceed 1 million per year. A lot of the sending countries have much larger populations than Canada, so there are a lot more that can be potentially sent to Canada in the future. About 1/4 of the population of Canada has been added in the past few decades. Add to that visitors and temporary visas - that is a lot of people potentially moving to the US. Before the 1990s Canadians visiting the US were not required to have a passport and a drivers' license or birth certificate was adequate. Now a passport is required. It is impossible to effectively control the long Canada-US border, so there could be some unified policies in that area agreed on between Canada and the USA on immigration and refugees. Canada currently has a very open immigration policy with the government actively seeking out more immigration beyond its current processing capacity and trying to take rejected immigrants from other countries. The Canadian government, especially in recent years under Trudeau is immigration hungry. It might be the only country in the world doing that. What some news reports are now saying is that some immigrants are actually leaving, since they find it so difficult in Canada and some are worse off than they were in the countries they came from, which were considered to be less developed than Canada. \nWashington currently has more immigration controls and administrative competencies than Ottawa, so US pressure and influence is a faster way to get reforms into the system than waiting for local politicians to do anything, which is unlikely. Canada is seen by some as a backdoor into the US. Biden's immigration policies could be seen as very conservative in Canada compared to Trudeau's. It used to be in the news about how refugees were trying to get to Canada and walking across the border in Quebec and out west from the US earlier, but now there are more news stories of immigrants leaving Canada trying to go the other way, probably due to high costs and unemployment because the government took in more people than it could absorb into the economy. They have the idea that immigration drives GDP growth so that they can borrow and spend more, expand the civil service, etc. without making any cutbacks or efficiencies, supposedly without the Debt to GDP ratio getting worse, just by bringing in more people as if that would drive the economy. A lot depends on who you bring in as well. Are they going to go on welfare, are they going to increase crime, will they somehow contribute to society, are they a net tax benefit or cost in terms of government services, will they invest money, will they start a business and create jobs for others ? Those issues do not factor into government decision making in Canada for the most part. Ontario Premier Doug Ford did say there were too many foreign students. It is bad planning not to consider those factors since there are other costs that grow with those policies as well, and infrastructure has to be expanded. I think that the real immigration numbers to Canada are not transparent or made public, nor are the costs involved, if anyone even knows what they are. Nor is the impact on crime. You can guess from what the reports are in other countries. The Fraser Institute has made some estimates on the net costs of immigration to the government budget a few years ago, which were very high and which by now have increased - the cost equivalent of several new aircraft carriers each year. They are big numbers which are not publicized, but it amounts to the fact that immigration is subsidized by the taxpayers in Canada and it is not paying for our pensions as an ageing society as has been claimed. There is less money for education, health care and pensions per person, and those social benefits will probably have to be reduced over time. Social programs can only be delivered to the extent that the government has money. The bigger social system a county has, the more such immigration policies are going to cost. Trudeau has been expanding various social programs as well, so higher taxes and debt are likely with that approach. Then more productive people and companies will want to leave Canada and go to the US. Probably the government does not know what the actual numbers and costs are and doesn't actively keep track of that information beyond what is required. Probably nobody knows what the true immigration figures and their associated costs are in Canada, and hardly anyone has even studied those issues. If they can just walk across the US border and get papers so easily making an asylum claim, it is not surprising, since it would take them longer to get a regular visa and work permit if they did it legally. You could call that a loophole in the US immigration system which is being exploited. The US is better governed in general and has a better system in many ways, but I am not sure if it is the same on that. People have arrived on boats and have not been sent back. At least in the US you have more open information about those issues. In Canada it is hard to find out anything about it. Deportations from Canada are very few. \nOn other issues in Canada when voting in federal elections you have to show a government issued photo ID like a drivers' license or passport to vote and bring a card that was mailed out to eligible voters that gets updated addresses when a person files their taxes. I have never heard of mail-in ballots in Canada, but there are remote areas of the country in the far north who may have special system for voting. It is easier to get a Canadian citizenship than US and many more citizenships are handed out in Canada each year in proportion to the population than in the US. Canadian might be one of the easiest citizenships to get in the world. The official line now is that it is a country of immigrants. Based on current trends, will very little opposition to it in the parliament and most MPs supporting it, future immigration to Canada could increase to several million per year because of the rapid growth of population in the world, and the momentum already growing of immigration to Canada, so it may change significantly in the future. Historically around the world you can see many examples that country names, borders, flags and languages change over time with population changes, so it might not be called Canada anymore in 50-100 years. For example, Bulgaria used to be called Thrace which had been a powerful kingdom in antiquity and had a different language which is barely known about anymore. Over the past 2,000 years it has gone through a number of changes and had various regimes governing it, has been independent and also part of several different empires. Canada has only been a country for a short time in comparison and has been been going through significant changes. Trudeau has said that Canada is a post-national country. Canada is also going through a period of critical self-examination and deconstruction-revisionism. A lot of what had been viewed as positive from its history now is seen more critically, with re-naming and removing historical figures now seen as negative.\nDiscussing immigration policy critically is considered by many to be taboo in Canada, unless a person is saying good things about it in general. You can hear people say that the government isn't processing enough people, for example, but not often that there are too many or that it costs a lot of money. The trend of migration from Canada to the US would only increase much more in the future as it is going currently, and its role as a stepping stone to migration to the US could increase. The way this would be seen by many in Canada is that they are losing valuable people to the USA whom they consider assets, since a lot of officials have been trying to bring in more people into the country, but not everyone wants to stay in Canada nowadays because of a lack of jobs and opportunities. Canada is quite laissez-faire about migration, with Toronto being a sanctuary city as well.

Every immigrant needs to go through the proper process not the easiest way. We paid large amounts of money to enter Canada and we were interviewed to be accepted. That should be the standard. Over population is a problem and straining the health care system and the housing system. Vote the right government in to balance things out. If you are a Canadian you can protest because you pay taxes, but if you have not been here too long, sorry, you have to respect the system and not change it!

Instead of taking advantage of a class of working age people who can immediately start paying taxes we have allowed capitalists who own both parties with their lobbyists to extract wealth from rent farms and using their monopolies to overcharge us for basic needs under the guise of inflation. If this were true and you have to raise prices by 25%, how come they dont also raise wages by 25% if their profit and overhead have increased proportionally? Increased profits during a slow economy with the pandemic is so blatant whats happening. We are being robbed by long established canadian nepotism families that run our government and point the finger at immigrants. Economies are supposed to scale with population, in the case of immigrants many dont require the necessary fortune we spend on native born peoples public education so they are able to work. We spend nothing on integration efforts our schools abuse them charge the massive international fee. These are rich people coming here with families capable of paying the additional 10-20k a year being international students, and we are not benefitting from this extremely successful industry only the rich are. Imagine if we could be proud of the fact our education is so good people will pay our country double just to get it. Squandered opportunity on every side.

My sister's husband was sent to the USA for his job. His company wanted him to work down there for a while. He got a 5 year work VISA. They paid taxes in the US, and it didn't give them the right to stay forever. They paid income tax and property taxes. She wasn't allowed to get a job so she renovated the home they bought, and made a profit when they sold it. So after his 5 year Visa was over, they moved back home up here. Just because people contribute and pay taxes while they hold a work Visa, doesn't give them the right to stay once that Visa has expired. MY SISTER AND HER HUSBAND HAD TO LEAVE THE USA AFTER HIS 5 YEAR WORK VISA EXPIRED. LAWS MATTER!! OUR CANADIAN RULES MUST BE ENFORCED TOO!!!!
