If significant numbers of people have not/do not pay taxes in Canada to support our health and welfare system then their use of those same systems weaken them for those who do. The weaken systems will start to fail and we’ll all be worse off unless, of course, we raise taxes or borrow more. How liberal is that!

The contrast between immigrants, many from India, and the rhetoric of those who now feel like a new minority was striking. It should not surprise me that racism appears anywhere humans are, but what stood out was how some speakers treated all Indians as a single people, despite hundreds of cultures, and accused them of failing to assimilate to ‘their way.’ Many of those voices were themselves descendants of immigrants who were once pressured to abandon Norwegian or other identities in the name of assimilation. Yet there was little evidence they had actually spent time getting to know their Indian neighbors, their cultures, friendships, or daily realities. Instead, the focus was fear and a narrative of societal collapse, rather than honest engagement that separates real local issues from blanket blame. Of course, any local community can have problems, and some groups can be unwelcoming. But the argument presented implied there is only one way to be Canadian. That echoes xenophobic rhetoric in the US about who counts as ‘American,’ often while ignoring the reality of Indigenous peoples entirely. I do not deny the importance of shared commitments like the rule of law, freedom, and evidence based policy rooted in the Enlightenment and scientific thinking. But culture and learning can coexist with those values. What troubled me most was how poverty and discrimination were replaced with racial generalizations, and how victim language was used to deflect responsibility, something that resembles DARVO. Given the same conditions, these problems could arise in any group, regardless of race.

Bro I'm Punjabi and I'm born in Brampton. Many people in my generation are integrated and we do more "Canadian" things that "Punjabi" things. People scapegoat Brampton and immigrants for the government failing to build and honour housing or infrastructure for the last 30 years. Of course there needs to be reforms on immigration but for the everyday person It’s way easier to blame a random brown guy for high rent than to admit the system is, and has been, broken by design. Canada is a great country because of the love & effort of those before you, so now you are the beneficiary. Join the legacy by enhancing this beautiful country & its culture, so you can pass on this century old legacy for later newcomers to enjoy, like you do now. What dignity do you have & what kind of life lessons to your children by bullying your culture & religion into Canada at the expense of other Canadians? This will fracture Canada if everyone does that. Do you want this country to become so fractured & terrible that your descendants have to leave for a better country, like you did? Is that what your religion teaches you? Does it state it's perfectly fine to satisfy all your whims & wishes at the expense of others? I worked my entire career with the public, I very seldom encounter negative feedback when I do the above. If they get nasty, I tell them that's definitely not the Canadian way to make friends & wish them Good Luck! You are absolutely correct. Progressives think America is an evil oppressive country. But of course they do not explain why:\n1. Many International students at colleges and universities weren't studying. They worked excessive hours and failed all their courses. Citizenship is a privilege, not a right

The Canadian visa system has been scammed by unscrupulous travel agents from Punjab and Gujarat. Its a mystery as to how illiterate villagers join Canadian colleges and get PR. The failed immigration system is answerable to the voters and taxpayers. Stop this scam. Deport the students who have done their course. PR is not a natural process after college.

Just chill. There is no mass deportation. There is a ban to entrances as two large conflicts growing to the loss control point. In 1941 we closed boarders for immigration for a year. Same thing will be around going on now. Strangely, because, the amount of illegals we get is huge and small relating to the conflicts. Why deportation is impossible? It is. Over our extensive history of immigration our country has experienced chronic separatism, racism, exclusion and of course, bigotry. The problem is that some International students come here to study, but only work to get citizenship. They don't attend any classes and end up failing their courses. These students should not be allowed to stay in Canada

most newcomers to any country struggle especially since most are not bringing in wads of cash to start a business but literally scraping in using life savings just to get here - however once here with residential status a national health care and level of income security for unemployment benefits is an added bonus which you won't get in every country regardless of residency status but refugees and others come in with no money at all as well as problems in some cases with language barriers, but as bad as everyone thinks it is the grass is not greener on the other side just because you're paying lower taxes but privatising infrastructure only makes things more expensive even when you're not taxed.... and Canada is a huge country with very limited number of tax payers such a small market would double costs for private business too - and just cos things may be cheaper you may find you don't fit as well as you thought..... and also the more you move the less time you have to settle and grow into the space you find yourself now....I've lived in 3 very different countries so I understand how difficult it is.... and how some places regardless of cost just fit better than others.... New immigrants dont integrate in Canada or Canadian life. The priviledge of going to school is for study not PR. Its not a back door immigration program. You dont go to any other country and make demands or protest. Few if any go in the needed trades so time to go home. The numbers are unsustainable and its killing communities with housing and jobs as well as limited resources like healthcare and education. Governments and post secondary have failed Canadians who have had enough of paying the price and need borders closed. Clearly somewhere along the line these students are coming with false promises and expectations. With housing crisis if Colleges and Universities cant house all those they bring over on campus and provide the housing then higher caps to meet who they can house. Failure to do so close them down. Most communities are in emergency state for homelessness so of course no sympathy or tolerance for protests. Schools are for study only not a back door.

So if an immigrant can get a Canadian citizen tax payer funded job the government will let them stay. Cool sounds about right par for the course for our government. Imagine going to another country, going to school there, failing, then demanding handouts from their country. U mad yet? If the government won't send them home, Canadian citizens will create innovative solutions.

It's great that people want to come here and study, but... When you come here and abuse the rules and work well beyond the limits of your work permit and work double and triple the amount of hours that is not ok. Another issue is when you take only business courses and then fail out just you didn't actually get any skills that are needed in this county to allow you to stay after your schooling. If you follow the rules, great! Come learn and work and share our culture for your school term, but if you don't want to follow the rules...

OK hear me out, I’m a Jewish American but I have always been quite critical of Israel especially in the last 3 decades under the Likud government it’s nationalism and imperialism, with regard to its settlements and attitudes to Palestine. That said… Every time we’re close to creating good world sympathy for a Palestinian state, the power-hungry radicals of the Palestinian people always somehow ruin the progress, taking advantage of a power vacuum, and it’s stirring up the people once again that Israel Has to be destroyed off the face of the map. Then on top of that, during peaceful times with momentum for a two state solution, something always ruins it, in this case it was Hamas, seizing power over Gaza with the statement that Israel needed to be destroyed. Then Israel made sanctions to try to make that government fail, but, of course, as we know, it only starved the people and made them angrier and then they did this awful, unspeakable, brutal attack. Hamas is still attacking to this day. If Hamas wants to cease fire, they need to also stop attacking Israel and come to the table and come up with a two states solution and accept Israel. Israel is of course going too far as they often do but it’s a tough call as to what Israel should really be doing right now, while their constantly under attack and threat from their neighbors in a very active way every day.

One more thing.. anybody remember what happened in 1948 when Israel claimed its independence after failed negotiations and the arabs denouncing a two state solution (as they've done multiple time later)? Who remembers the nearly half a million jews that were thrown out or numerous arab countries? Where is the UN organisation for them and their right to claim back their stolen property? These arab countries should be called to compensate and take the jews back, that would only be par for the course right?

Of course, if you're successful elsewhere, why discard it to move to the West? Otherwise, this guy isn't saying wnything that's not alreeady known! He fails to understand that the quality of life is what you pay for. In developing countries, you don't get security, good publi education, utilities 24/7, a working government, no social safety net (aka welfare), etc and you're absolutely on your own. You can't discuss any one thing in isolation. The difference is day and night. Also, time is money and everyone has to be accountable and responsible with both. As an employer. would he appreciate his employees getting paid to waste either and get paid for it? A reason developimg countries aren't doing well is because they fail to understand this, hence the waste of time and everything running late and not as quality. If it was great, why are the developing countries' economies so bad. As an immigrant myself, I know, understand, and appreciate this and think until developing countries appreciates this, they will continue to struggle.

Not entirely accurate. It's pro-wealthy immigration here in Canada absolutely. It's citizenship for sale. Not necessarily wealthy in terms of really wealthy (like Switzerland) but it's definitely citizenship for sale, so if you don't have money, don't bother. Newcomers with medical and engineering expertise can't get jobs here in Canada, in spite of our healthcare system being on the point of collapse and our supposed hi-tech push. Regulatory boards here have made it impossible. Estimates are around 175000 qualified, internationally trained doctors and nurses who gave up trying to practice here and moved into other careers. Ukrainian doctors, for eg, with extensive trauma experience and willing to staff our emergency departments have been told they have to requalify by going to Canadian medical school to retrain for at least 4 years. Same story in engineering. By IT, our government seems to mean low-paid call center IT work, moving the IT sweatshop racket from India onto Canadian soil. If you can afford to buy a business - I believe the total business investment was 500 000 pre-pandemic - that's another way in. Not sure if thats gone up now. So many of our franchise businesses are essentially being used as citizenship tickets. The big ticket item: If you can afford 4 years of postgraduate or undergrad university program, or 3 to 4 year college program - and if you don't have the cash, loan sharks in India will distribute debt across the whole family for decades so one student can go . There us a very good documentary by an Indian filmmaker on the Canadian college/University recruitment drive in India and its consequences. Several of our colleges have student enrollments at over 70% of the entire student body, direct entry from India. Additional problems like grade inflation, different education standards, and outright fraud on ESL testing also mean that Indian students are not well prepared for school here. Many do not have enough English to succeed in their studies. They either need to spend for additional tutoring, take a qualifying year or two ESL (on top of the 3 or 4 program), or fail courses. Universities and colleges keep the tuition though. Honestly our colleges and universities are staying afloat because of Indian students. They're being treated like cash cows - and Indian recruiters are scamming the system, taking fees on their end with unsuspecting students getting falsified documents, or being told they passed their ESL when they didn't. It's a national disgrace. I'm a prof here, I've seen all of this firsthand. Your data may be correct, but the narrative you've constructed for it is not the real picture.

I'm surprised taxes wasn't your first point as for most immigrants that's the most shocking thing about Canada is the insane amount of taxes we pay, as for the education thing I agree with our policy for example while I was studying Architecture a Syrian lady who came as a refugee had an engineering degree in syria in order for her to work in the field she needed a Canadian degree as she was knowledgeable she flew through the courses almost impeccably on the other hand there was an Indian civil engineer but he struggled in everything except the math, he confessed to another classmate that he bought his degree and was completely clueless, he failed out in the first year... in my mind its a good way to separate the professionals from the liars

The hate and ignorance here is abhorrent. The thousands of asylum seekers entering Canada are fleeing from the United States. There fleeing from YOUR country! And what would you like us to do with them? Take their children away and lock them in cages!? How’s that working for you?\nBelieve it or not, Canada has a much more stringent vetting process for entry than the US. And a vast majority of these people will not qualify for entry. In the mean time, let due process take its course and yes, treat people humanly while here. \nI weep for a society that fails the poor and needy, it is by that standard that we are judged as humans.
