As a Canada who speaks both French and English and who follows politics quite closely, I have to say that the headline and some of the reporting here is quite misleading. A reduction in immigration has broad support across Canada. I wouldn't say that notion is dividing the country in any significant way. You do have certain industry groups that disagree, but among the population these reductions have broad support. This is a historic change in public opinion in Canada, but it has been driven by the unprecedented increase in immigration under the last term of the Trudeau government. To put this in context, non-permanent residents in Canada numbered around 1.5 million on Q3 2023, but by Q3 2025, that number sat a just over 3 million. The previous government increased immigration targets by 3 or 4 times over what they had been for years, which caused a number of economic issues. Essentially, the volume was simply too high for the economy and society to support. This was unfair to both Canadians and new comers, many of which could not find employment or afford a decent place to live. The changes being suggested are largely bringing Canada back to what the targets were for over a decade before, though a bit lower to account for the sudden surge. Canada remains one of the most pro-immigration countries in the world. However, and this is where I think DW's reporting is misleading, there is a distinction to be made between policies at the federal level and policies at the provincial level. Immigration, per our constitution, is a federal matter, however, Quebec in particular is distinct from other provinces. I don't mean only culturally and linguistically, but also in the powers that have been devolved to it by the federal government. On the question of immigration, Quebec has more powers and more ability to set its immigration targets and programs than any of the other 9 provinces. The particular program discussed here, the Quebec Experience Program (PEQ), is a particular immigration stream that only existed in Quebec. So what is happening with that program cannot be labeled as a whole-of-Canada thing. Where the changes to the PEQ are controversial, unlike the general changes at the federal level, is that people who immigrated under that specific program were promised certain things. There was a multi-year time line to Permanent Residency and then Citizenship. Many of those people have been in Quebec for 5-8 years already. However, the changes made to the program were done in such a way where people who many years into the program, had gotten an education, started a career, had children, ect. are now being told they can't continue and must leave Canada. There are even stories of people who married Canadians, now have children, and the one parent who was under this program now faces the possibility of having to leave Canada and be separated from their family. All through no fault of their own. That is what many people see as unfair, and I agree, however limiting future applications under the program, to bring in less people, that is not controversial. Canada has no responsibility to bring in people who are not already in Canada, but Canada does have some responsibility towards people who uprooted their lives to move to Canada and built new lives here based on promises and representations made to them by the Canadian and Quebecois governments. We should no simply kick those people out of the country.

If you go to Canada, you will mostly see Punjabi people there. I don’t know why Punjabi people have become so obsessed with Canada. They mostly refer to going to Canada. They don’t even work properly or look for jobs in India; they just prefer going to Canada. I don’t know what kind of jobs they get there. Some of them go there depending on relatives, and some go illegally, which is completely wrong. Because I want to say one true thing about Indian people: there is very little civic sense in India. Yes, if they belong to the upper class, then they may have some civic sense, but in the lower and middle class, civic sense is very low. That’s why wherever they go, they behave the same way they think, without caring that they are in another country. They don’t care about respecting that country or adjusting to its culture. Instead, they try to impose their own culture everywhere. They want to create their own space everywhere and put their own things everywhere. But if foreigners come to India and live here permanently, they just do their work and live normally. Even if they do something publicly to promote their own culture, Indians will immediately go against them. But I haven’t seen the same reaction outside. People there should also oppose this; otherwise, Indians will really spread everywhere in the same way.

Finally someone has covered this! This is the sad reality as to what's happening to Canada. The UK is the exact same. Canada is screwed completely unless we speak up about this! There are many of us who don't like this and don't want it, but there are many Canadians who are bleeding hearts and weak who just accept it. They're going to outbreed us and eventually completely takeover and completely ruin the country. Canada is not the same place that I remember from my childhood. It has become the capitol of woke ideology, weakness, and completely overrun by Indians. Not to mention that we used to be a Christian country. We used to say Merry Christmas every year, Christian values were upheld and encouraged, now there are Mosques everywhere! There are more Mosques in Canada than Churches these days. Canada has become ruined. The worst part is, that those who come to our country don't even respect our values, traditions, or even attempt to assimilate. They expect us to conform to their ways. We can no longer be Christians because they are Anti-Christian, we can no longer speak English or French, because they hate our language. I have literally been to Toronto and Vancouver and seen the madness unfold, not an ounce of English is spoken or understood in those areas. It's either Chinese or Indian that is spoken. Usually, when you come to another country, you are supposed to conform to that country's values and traditions, not the other way around. I was going through college in southern Ontario about half a decade ago. The faculty was alright but the one that always stuck with me was an elderly Indian man who had a PHd (what he was doing teaching at a community college, I'm not sure). He immigrated from India sometime in the 70's, I think, and sometimes told us stories about how he'd never seen electricity until he was well into adulthood. This was at the early stages of Indian mass immigration to the province, but the international students were already becoming a known problem in the school. They never spoke to anyone else, hung out in big groups together on campus, I swear most of them couldn't even speak English. They constantly cheated on everything and shared answers, I heard like 7 of them got failed for submitting identical lab reports one time. Most people knew they were a problem, but no one was comfortable saying anything. Except the Indian professor. He would publicly call them out for shit in class, berate them, shit talk them openly to other students. I've literally never seen anyone more angry about those Indian students than that Indian professor. It's not hard to see why, he busted his ass to immigrate to Canada, get work and get into a good university. He completed a doctorate, for Christ's sake. He didn't see a street light until he was 25, and worked his way to the bleeding edge of digital science. Now there's a bunch of lazy assholes invited in by the government brazenly trying to cheat their way to a degree in his goddamn class. I'd crash out too.

This is what gets me, I’m an immigrant. I came from a place where we speak a broken dialect of English. As part of my processing, I had to demonstrate my ability to speak the queen’s english. To work, the expectation is you’re able to communicate effectively with whoever you’re interfacing. These folks come here, make zero attempt to improve or learn English or French - the national languages. They go home after the day is done, revert to their native tongue. How would you ever perfect something like a language without some degree practice and immersion? And they do this with their generations. The 1st and sometimes 2nd generation kids will speak their native tongue first, before learning English or French. It’s like the language they should speak to effectively work and live in Canada is an accessory. The govt at all levels encourage this by having driving tests and forms in other languages. And don’t get me started on the pockets - Brampton for example. The politicians kowtow to the voters and give in to them having huge temples, and nonstandard shopping complexes. We had maybe 5 recent acquisitions of Indian people setting up and ruining successful gas stations and pop up smoke shops in my town allowing minors to freely browse and buy products. They keep to themselves because the people around here understand their predatory ways of selling and how gross they naturally are. I'm disappointed and I don't like them. I accept humans but I don't accept someone who can't wash their hands nor maintain a clean image morally and professionally. I know for certainty that they are illegally here buying properties which are very hard for us locals to even get our hands on. Something needs to be done and people need to be aware.

So essentially 3 tiers of Indian come(Hamiltonian here who worked in the GTA for awhile) They got pumped in and don't like eachother and look down at the lower tiers ones. They won't even hire other Indians anymore since they have the options of only their type. They erased several industries at this point, most small business are forgien owned, Indian or middle eastern. They can't drive (just google India driving) theirs a couple feet of snow and they just floor it around sliding through intersections while playing candy crush or what ever Every business that is fast food place is almost exclusively Indian to the point the "white point game" isn't even playable. They buy up insane amounts of properties because they bring thier entire family on different visas and many just stay till they get deported as they bring that money home with them. Every student housing is filled with Indians, every one bedroom has 30 of them living in it. Most starter homes where cheap so they bought them to flip with thier combined money. Security sector is filled with them exclusively because it's the highest amount of money they can make here without any skills .(Most are 0 skilled). Schools all had to cut staff in half because when we cut funding and spots for people coming to our universitys they lost half thier income. Crime rate went way up. My city is really bad for human trafficking and aex trafficking. Many come to our city since it's far enough away to commit crimes. Many get 0 consequences because again.. Illegally overstaying a visa is deportation. Doug Ford literally gave everyone 200$ before an election...like how corrupt and garbage is this country. Now we have Indian only business that can't speak English, similar to the daycare issue. Job postings for specific races or language s only. Mind you everything just stated is also being done by the Arabs and Somalis and Nigerians. Many of these people coming here are "escaping dangerous situations" Wich means criminals who want to start again. Somehow these people with 0 resources have the money to buy million dollar properties 😂 Also don't forget, it's a hate crime to say or do many things about this and could land you in jail or worse. Much of Canada are college towns and those idiot kids want more

Our local governments literally tell you to your face and they wanna replace you and I’m not even talking about just white people. I’m talking about native citizens of United States Canada, UK Germany, etc. etc. they wanna have this whole destabilization of the voting blocks so that the government can literally run wild do whatever they want. This all makes me very sad within the last 10 years because it's not what I grew up with and loved 😢 I grew up with multiculturalism enriching my childhood. Learning from different cultures at friends dinners and other different friends houses and attending eastern-themed event from all different parts of the East. There was so much to learn just in my own country from other people from other countries it was fascinating !!! I got to take part in different ceremonies and watch different people celebrate the same sort idea about something in much different ways, I loved it. I learned at least half of my best exterior Plastering tricks from people that had thick accents from all over the East and I'm better plasterer because of it. I learned cooking recipes in the kitchen that I probably never would have stumbled across randomly. I was shown in person all the nuances to certain ways different cultures cooked - like how amazing is that!! There are maybe only a few tricks that I was able to show in return but I always tried to do my best ! The amount of community an alternate types of activities or interesting festivals that without multiculturalism would not even exist . When I was young everybody new integrated into the neighborhood unit first got to know the neighbourhood we're introduced the community center and then obviously people have their own separate areas that they prefer. We first became one, one by one, and meet each other and try to have some fun together that's the whole point! Community or block parties when I was a kid had all of our parents looks like representatives from different countries, that's the way it used to be anyway.... where did it all go? I stopped seeing this type of beautiful multi-ethnic Harmony roughly 10 years ago. Not only that when I try to be a part of new things I am literally turned away or shunned in some weird way I don't know why... I can't even believe how I'm treated.

I just watched Tucker’s interview with the man that made the documentary “Replacing Europe” and it was very eye opening! Even if you are not a fan, I encourage you to watch. This is happening all over!! Apparently, many places in Europe can’t even build a military because they don’t have anyone to actually fight for Europe due to them all being migrants. I would like to see just one contribution from fatty to scholarship😂😂. I was born in brampton, lived in cbridge then to b.c.! I will never go back! Heres a fun fact tho, the government opened the flood gate to immigration, red taped housing, started a catch and release program for repeat offenders, even violent ones! Not Canada per se, but baised on my coworkers even the Indians have Indian fatigue now. Especially with the older skilled Indians workers who have aasemulated into the country and came here the honest way. They're always complaining how it's now so easy to get into the country, with relaxed polices and poor vetting and how these newer influxes do not like to assemulate into their new country, and bring their bad practices over here. And annoyed why are importing non skilled workers when locals are struggling for jobs, describing why we do not need more Uber drivers and mc donalds workers. They're were telling me there's recently been a large influx buying their degrees for like $10k and getting here on skilled visas without thorough checks. because of relaxed policies as a result of our majority of young skilled citizens here leaving the country in record numbers since COVID.

I'm glad that my family immigrated to the US from Canada. We still have a place up that way in a very rural area and even that is falling apart. The Indians are coming in and taking a bunch of businesses and jobs from Canadians and they do not assimilate whatsoever.

One thing i can and do respect about indians is that they will never be pushy with their religions. Sure you'll find some "bad apples" but rare. Here is a aggressively neutral take as a Canadian elementary school teacher in an area with an extremely high Indian population (around half our school is ethnically Indian). It is also my own opinion, and some opinions on the internet suck: The good: Cultural integration IS possible (the Indian families are more into hockey than the white families where I live), tons of cross-cultural friendships, beautiful blend of cultural celebrations, top achievers are almost always second-generation immigrants, kids are growing up to love their parents' culture while also loving Canada's, many fantastic families who engage their children well and raise them very respectfully, religious temples that will feed an amazing meal to ANYBODY who walks into them (as long as you cover your hair), low rates of family trauma (drugs, abuse, divorce, etc.), families that take care of their elders The rough: Not all families are interested in being Canadian (some families just send their kids to Indian speaking private schools, live in Indian areas, and only seem to practice Indian ways of life - what's even the point?), many Indian families retreated into their home-lives during Covid which removed their children from integration opportunities, a very small percentage of the families are absolutely TERRIBLE at parenting and treat their sons and daughters with different levels of respect, multi-family households pay a single property tax which makes the contribution per taxpayer much smaller (while social benefits are equal to anybody else), some crime such as extortion and gang activity has been imported into the country, some individuals' disregard for rules and laws (setting fireworks on Diwali in the middle of a dry, grassy field is just plain stupid), some Indian communities seem to vote blindly for their own ilk during local elections without any regard for policy or experience, LMIA immigration program has been corrupted by the nepotism of bad actors and the greed of large corporations (wages can be federally subsidized which makes it cheaper to hire immigrants than the 16 year old down the street). Many of these families were simply making good choices for their own family, so don't blame the people themselves for this - blame the government that allowed it to fester unsustainably. I'll continue to stick up for the majority of these beautiful families though - haters be darned! Watching these kids grow up gives me some hope for humanity!

I think the difference or reason people are upset with modern immigrants is they never even try to assimilate. They all bring their culture here and ignore the western ways.

I’m saying that our healthcare system is burdened, how can we take care of other people when we can’t afford to even take care of anybody here at this point. Do you know how many patients I have who have immigrated to Canada and their elite 60s and 70s, can’t speak a word of English and didn’t contribute anything to our economy yet their family members leave them in the hospital because they can’t walk and talk the way they used to, and refuse to take them home.
