My respects Canada! My respects Trudeau! I am an American, but I support Canada. Trump is the worst and most shitty president ever in American history. I'm simply shocked that this criminal was brought back to power, obviously by those who just want to destroy America.

I’ve read a lot of comments from people saying “Trudeau ruined Canada” in response to people expressing their support for Trudeau in this time.\n\nThat’s not really a great point.\n\nIf Trudeau hasn’t been good for Canada, but gives a coherent, inspiring, and professional speech in this moment that unites Canadians and others alike, then that should speak so much to how awful this situation is. Huge respect to Trudeau and Canada for not backing down. I hope one day we’ll be allies with the right side of the world again.\n\nWe wanna talk about a leader ruining a country? That’s what Donald is doing right now. Except he won’t unite us in the future with a speech like this.\n\nThis American stands with Canada!

I am so proud of Canada and the Prime Minister. As an American, and respect and support this professional and empathic acknowledgement to this hideous tariff war. Americans are watching a mature leader, addressing several nations. The Heritage foundation is reckless and feeding Dfrump.

I have lived in Canada for almost 50 years.. The United States of America has been our closest neighbour and friend ever since I came here.. \nLong before I came here Canada and the US were partners… \nWe relied on each other, we supported each other and we profited from each other..\nLet me make it perfectly clear I consider myself Canadian and I love the Americans like they were my own brothers and sisters.. \nAlso let it be known that our government does not speak for the citizens of this country… \nWe are being forced by the government to follow the rules. I am annoyed with CNN for turning this into a WAFFLE Soapy...At Last Trudeau has grown BALLS and he was presenting a Polite, Rational, Understandable, Logical, Factual explanation NOT only to AMERICA BUT more so to Canada and the World that Trump is NOT actually a SMART man but rather a deranged and dangerous illiterate with NO interest other than HIS EGO...SO CNN in your wisdom you ignored Trudeau's replies to questions from the press and gave oxygen to your WAFFLE MONGERS LIGHT WEIGHT comments.\n I have never been a supporter of wishy washy Trudeau....until this polite and measured presentation by him which was brilliant as an Educational tool not only for the American People BUT also for ALL of those ALLIES in the FREE World that TRUMP has absolutely NO RESPECT for and has been singularly responsible for the FREE World ALLIES to seriously rethink their allegiances with Chaotic America due to Donald's apparently Love affair with Putin as a fellow Dictator.\n America listen up.... Trump is attempting to offset his tax cuts by implementing a tax that isn't called a tax. All of the money from the tariffs goes to the government. Trump has mentioned when tariffs were common as supporting what he is doing, but he doesn't add that at that time, there wasn't an income tax, so tariffs were how the government supported itself. Trump, knowing that tariffs are income for the government, is lying to his base so they will accept the increased prices as a necessary evil to battle the bad countries of Mexico and Canada. It will look like his tax breaks aren't hurting as much as they are and price increases will be the fault of the other countries.\n\nTrump is a conniving grifter with no knowledge of how to run a country's economy or international trade. He is gaslighting the American public to cover his own shortcomings.\n\nAlso, if fentanyl is entering the US, why is it the fault of the other countries? It is the job of the US to stop anything on its side of the border. Canada and Mexico do what they can to catch the drugs while inside their respective countries. The tons of cocaine and guns that enter Canada and Mexico from the US are caught by their border services; they don't blame the US for the products getting past their own border agents, and the US takes no responsibility for it making it across the border. Why is it other countries' fault for drugs getting past the US's border agents, but not the fault of the US that guns and drugs are going in the other direction? That is why countries work together, not fight over whose fault it is and try to punish each other.

I am an American beyond appalled and disgusted by my country’s leadership, or rather, lack of leadership. Nothing but respect and admiration for you Canada. Thank you for understanding that most Americans don’t support any of this whatsoever. We love you. Slava Ukraini

It’s an embarrassment. I hope Canada and the rest of the world realize that millions of intelligent progressive Americans do not support the orange clown who we have the misfortune of having as our president. We envy you for having an eloquent respectable leader.

Elbows up! As a border living American, Canada has my fullest support and respect. 50% of my lifelong vacations have been spent in the great white north. I hope to go to Toronto in April. If my cuntry doesn’t ef it up. ❤

The speech of Mr Trudeau, the way Canadians have shown solidarity for one another, today it all puts my country, The US, to shame. I am ashamed of what my government is doing and I am disgusted with the people doing it. In Mr Trump’s first term, as eclipsed as they were by the many many many actions and attitudes he imposed on us that embarrassed and hurt us as a country, there was the rare occasional decision I could at least understand even if I did not support it. Since taking office literally not one thing he has done has made sense to me as an American. I can only say how sorry I am for what the country I love is being used to do to you all, especially our closest allies and friends and in particular the people of Canada today. I grew up in Commerce Twp Michigan. I visited Canada regularly and, even as crime from Detroit poured across the border into Canada, Canadians always treated us with respect and welcome. I never imagined that would stop but now I find it hard to imagine how it might continue and it breaks my heart.

As an American, Canada do not back down. EU, do not back down. We get what Trump Elon and Vance along with the MAGA Republicans are doing. We apologize for this respectfully. The number of countries around the world boycotting American products in support of Canada will really bite America. Canadians are done, we will not be bullied by our neighbours to the south, and free nations are watching. America has lost all previous respect it had on the world stage. America is not a decent and reliable friend, America can not be trusted to honour its agreement. We will fight back! As an American and a Trump supporter, I agree with these tariffs, but only equal to the tariffs other countries charge the United States on our imports. I do not agree with imposing this on our brothers and sisters to the north. I’m speaking of the good people of Canada. I have traveled to Canada and crossing the border was just like crossing into another state. Yes, there was a border gate which there should be, but I had absolutely no problem whatsoever. I hope our government can work this out very quickly and stop this foolishness. But to countries like China and Europe the United States should charge a reciprocal tariff as to what you charge us on our import. It’s only fair. Why are we paying an exuberant tariff for our goods entering your country and you expect to pay nothing with your goods entering ours. Most Americans, love Canada and love our Canadian brothers and sisters, we’ve always supported each other in world, wars, and other attacks against our respective countries. I pray this is resolved quickly, and then we can once again live United and in harmony.

For the vast majority of Americans, including Trump who don't know this: \n- 90% of all aluminum used in the USA comes from Canada. \n- 80% of the potash used to grow food on US farms comes from Canada. \n- Steel is made in Canada. - Uranium is exported from Canada. \n- Minerals needed for electronics are exported from Canada. The only alternatives are China and Russia. \n- 60% of all imported oil in the US comes from Canada. \n- Electricity produced in Canada is delivered to the states of New York, Vermont, Maine and over 20 other US states. We’ll soon find out if convicted felon Trump and his supporters need Canada when that electricity gets turned off. If Trump can rip our mutually-negotiated agreements so can Canada. We did not ask for this economic war nor did we start it. Trump did. \n \nIt's also time to super-tax every pound of US coal being exported through Roberts Bank Super-port in Delta, British Columbia, Canada. The American coal exported through Roberts Bank does not even pay a provincial carbon tax like all BC residents pay. Canadians are about to show Trump what happens when you consistently lie and stab your best customer and neighbour in the back. We are not afraid of Trump. Canada is the second-largest country in the world by land area and we have the longest coastline in the world, with over 243,000 kilometers of shoreline. We will continue expanding our trade with Pacific Rim countries, Europe, Mexico and beyond. They all need and want our lumber, minerals, oil and gas, grass fed beef, and the dependable, respectful trading partner that we are.

For all the amazing things the US has to offer, right now we don't even want to visit there, let alone move there. We've talked about it a lot, but nope. In Canada, generally speaking (although there are exceptions to every rule) we have no idea what political leaning our neighbors favor. Political campaigns last no more than 51 days; they do not start the day after the last election and go on for years. This way, elected officials actually do some work instead of campaigning. Right now, the politics in the US, as well as the judiciary, are literally insane. Gun violence in the US is insane, as is the attitude towards guns. It shouldn't take a shooting that affects you personally to make you care about it, and it's not just at schools. The US has had 28 mass killings, with 140 victims, in 6 months... but the problem is that no one down there cares about that enough to stop it, or even discuss ways to stop it. The politics is so sold out to corporations that what is good for the people just doesn't matter. It is capitalism run amok. Environmental protections? They are an inconvenience, and most of them were rolled back a few years ago under the presidency of He Who Must Not Be Named. So politics, elections, shootings... but wait. There's more. I have a wonderful friend in the US who has amazing health care, and yet when he got cancer, he was screwed. We do pay a health care premium up here, but it is a drop in the bucket compared to what people in the US pay for private insurance. Yes, you have the best hospitals in the world, but it doesn't matter if you can't afford to walk in the door. Now dump the intolerance -- racism, homophobia, religious zealots, misogyny (yes, I am talking women's rights, equal pay, access to health care, etc) -- throw in the crazies with guns, and now ask the question again. I absolutely know that Canada is not perfect, and that the tolerances and attitudes towards all these subjects differs from region to region, but overall we are a country that tries to respect the rights and needs of others, that has empathy for others, that wants to help others, and that is a pretty firm foundation to make us want to stay here. (please don't interpret this as all Americans and all areas of the US have no respect etc... but the predominant issues of health care, politics, religion, corporate greed, and violence, now all supported by a bat-crap crazy SCOTUS, sadly spills and taints it all. I know there are amazing, generous, kind people all over the US, but I don't know where the crazies are or where they might pop up).

It makes me happy to see all the comments of legal immigrants to the US who are angered by this. Personally I have no issues with legal immigration from any country and I respect it and I'll break bread with you cuz your an American now like me. I think legal immigrants are a breath of fresh air and we can have some support coming from the Hispanic community against illegal immigration. Sm people think if your hard on illegal immigration your racist against Hispanics but that's not it at all. We need more legal immigrants with this mindset to help diversify the republican party and help to stop democrats from labeling it as a racist party. Now adays so many people aren't republican solely because they aren't white and think the democratic party is more favorable to anyone of color. But the republican party favors Americans period regardless of race. Illegal immigration is bad even if America was in a totally different place and bordered a white nation we still wouldn't want em in here just as much. If Canada had a curropt authoritan government and they were all illegally immigrating here than it'd be them we'd be having these disputes with. This is not a racial thing, this is about breaking the law and hurting the US economy.
