The biggest issue is most immigration in Canada are highly skilled people the Canadian government are looking to exploit via taxes. Canada is only a good Country if you want to sit on your ass and do nothing. The more you make the more they take to pay for everyone else. I have no choice but to stay in this Country (born and raised), but I have travelled a bit with the Canadian Military and if my life was different I would probably try and find another Country to try.

To me, the problem is threefold. a) Toronto and Ontario in general - and perhaps the whole of Canada - are accepting way more immigrants than they have quality jobs for. If you need taxi drivers and plumbers, maybe this experience should be valued way higher than education as part of the existing immigration programs (which is not the case). At least then potential immigrants know this before they come and get stuck in low-paying or relatively OK-paying but repetitive and demoralizing jobs with debts and mortgages that become a trap preventing them from leaving. It's also partially on immigrants themselves who come to Toronto to only find out there's 100 people competing for one spot and that you need to be exceptional - or connected through your ethnic network - to work regular white-collar jobs. b) The official bipartisan policy of non-integration. The naive expectation that having people live in ethnic enclaves will somehow make the overall culture richer is not what happens: instead, people tend to stick to their own communities and the common culture thus gets eroded and limited to economic and financial matters. This makes some cities feel like one large business with everyone networking 24/7 instead of socializing normally. And arguably, having the right culture / social life is what motivates already successful people move in the first place. So when they come and they find out there's nothing but money talk and hustling, they leave (if they're smart). Quebec is doing better in that regard, but then Quebec is not really Canada and it's been pressured to cave in to the same money-centred, uncultured and disconnected society by the feds for decades now. The States is smarter in that it actually makes sure to integrate its immigrants (and let's be honest, many immigrants like being part of a new culture if it fits them) c) Treating real estate as an investment and not as a basic necessity (as Japan or some Nordic countries do, for example). That coupled with a lot of Asian money being laundered in Canada through immigration channels and private equity firms buying whole apartment blocks for rental purposes has led to the highest housing price increase in all of the developed world in the past 20 years or so. The median price of a condo in Toronto is higher than in New York despite the massive gap in salaries and the fact that New York is one of the most expensive cities in the world to begin with. Some draconian measures are needed here to prevent foreign - or even out-of-province ownership -, second property ownership and corporate ownership for renting purposes.

Yeah, the talking behind back is real and I just don't get it. Especially if it is about a trivial matter. I'd rather have an adult conversation... it is something I am really struggling. I am at a point in which I gave up having friends and I used to always have big groups back in Italy. It is also cause I was depressed for a long time here (Edmonton) but idk. I feel like canadians struggle too... the amout of people that go by just if they can have their weed or whaterver they take it is unreal to me. Also, the harsh weather and how cities are built for cars instead of people lower the possibily for socilization for everyone. Anyways... it is what it is. This place is not for me, it is for somebody else.

Just fyi, Ontario is the biggest province in terms of population size and not Quebec, and by far. However, Montreal (Quebec biggest city) is indeed one of the best city in Canada because of it's different cultural/shows events that are happening almost all year long, and it's very diverse as well. Also, in the western part of Montreal it wouldn't be a problem for a unilingual anglophone to live there because everyone is bilingual or unilingual English. Quebec city is also the oldest city in North America, a very nice place to visit and only 250 km from Montreal. If one is working in the financial sector however Toronto remains the real option in my opinion, but his way more expensive and so, so boring compared to Montreal.

I am Canadian, having grown up in Canada. I left for the States in 1998, after securing a green card and have no desire to return. Canada offered me nothing except unemployment, debt, and cold weather. Good riddance. It is very difficult to find work and housing in Canada. Education is a joke, because your degree does not guarantee you a career or the job you desire. The Canadian government has a historical record of offering citizenship to immigrants with false promises. Shame on this corrupt, self-serving, money-hungry Government. When I was growing up, one in 1000 people were non-white. Then the floodgates opened to nontraditional countries and multiculturalism was born. The Canadian culture I knew and grew up with was gone. Everyone is suddenly from somewhere else. Canada really has no culture. I don't even visit my family. They come to me! Good riddance Canada. Immigrants beware! You may be better off where you came from.

Canada is just Toronto, Ottawa, and Vancouver to everyone outside of Canada. Quebec/Montreal if they are feeling worldly.

I’ve lived in Canada my whole life, I’ve gone through a year of culinary school and passed high school with decent grades. Yet still improving my quality of life is an uphill battle. Bus prices and efficiency is awful, if you don’t have a car good luck cause you’ll spend much of your wage on bus fare and still have to walk through poor sidewalk systems to get to your destination. Schooling really didn’t teach me anything about taxes, or getting a job. But let me tell you I sure as heck know how to lease a car.... can’t wait to get a job so I can do that. My year of culinary training, under 4 red seal chefs has gotten me not one job. No matter how perfect you are for the role is you will ALWAYS get an entry level position first. (In my experience at least) and they are completely right, references are 100% key. I have a first shift tomorrow (wish me luck) that I only got because my chiropractor gave the pancakes house owner his reference. Very weird but I’ll take it. On top of all this winter just sucks, politics have gone nowhere in years, and if you don’t live in the major cities of Quebec, BC, or Ontario it’s going to be even harder. Plus living in Manitoba is odd cause people always call it “friendly Manitoba” but everyone (including me) is always frustrated. Needless to say I’m in the process of researching new place to move to, most likely in Europe cause America has all the same problems. (But worse)

I moved to New Brunswick from Alabama in 1i972. It has been my home ever since. I cannot imagine living anywhere else. I invite everyone to visit and see that I am right. The only problem with Alberta is Albertans. \n\nTheir high median incomes, low taxes and putting all their eggs into one economic basket (resources) comes at high cost. When oil tanks so does the province and everyone in it, especially since no one wants dirty sand oil. And when it comes to the people and their politics/views on the world Alberta is, figuratively speaking, the Florida or Texas of Canada.\n\nThe best provinces are, in my humble opinion, Quebec, Ontario and BC with Nova Scotia a close fourth.

I live in Alberta but have also lived in Ontario and Nova Scotia.....and this list doesn't surprise me.... Quebec is the best province because they whine the most and control the government so they have unbelievably amazing social programs that they pay for using other provinces' equalization payments and then thumb their noses at everyone else.....if money was no object I would 100% move to BC....but for most people, I still think AB is the best

Let's be honest: Ontario is hella overrated. Important province and all, I just don’t like when the urban people in Toronto think Canada is all about Toronto. It's a good place in some locations, but everyone seems to talk about them and now other places of Canada (asides from the occasional mention of Quebec or B.C)

America is more racist but immigrants can and are accepted as Americans and can access the life of anyone in society. On the other hand Canada wants immigrants it can abuse, forming an underclass they can stand on top of. And while initially it’s a big step up, it’s frustrating that you or your children are never given the opportunity to progress.\n\nI can tell you from experience that going from a high social strata of society in your home country to going to an underclass is very jarring. People will claim that the diversity you’re adding is great but white Canadians don’t want to actually be your friend, you’re likely to only hang out with your group of other “New Canadians” (immigrants/refugees). I’m Canadian born but mums family is from Europe. \n\nIt’s seems like not a lot has changed since the 1960’s my grandfather had trouble finding a job for a while due to not having Canadian experience. \n\nIt took my friends 7years to become citizens here. As a born Canadian. They had to go back to school. Unless you are in the medical profession I don’t see why you have to go back to school. \n\nMost of our health care does come from taxes yes I can’t tell you how great it is that I don’t have to pay $80,000 per surgery. I have 17 over my life. In other places in the world that would make me homeless. \nBut the dental care has cost me a lot because of my condition. But even for me that is a fair trade off. (I rather drugs, dental would be covered) \n\nTaxes also include subsided things for the public, libraries, roads that fixed, reduced fares for public transportation, reduced health cost for low income families that’s not covered by the government. etc. Not all great but the health care coverage is great to not have to pay in full. I only pay $6000 in taxes at most a year. I have a low income. The more you make the more they will tax you because it helps get the services for everyone. That’s why you are taxed more if you make more.

Everyone want to sit in the office and earn money. Thousands of people graduate from schools every year and thousands come from foregin countries to work here in the office. Canada don't have so many companies like US and can't give everyone work in the office. And in the future so many office jobs will disappear due to the technology. Don't think to sit in the office and earn. There are so many jobs in construction and transportation and traits. Try them and become skillful and earn money.

Immigrated from Haiti to Montreal in 2001, I was 22. it was impossible getting work in what I studied but worked odd jobs for a few months. Then I went back to university and got a Masters. Husband went back to university as well and got an accounting degree. I have to say the diplomas worked. We ended getting good jobs in our field and now have very good careers. We have some Haitians friends and after years of effort they are all doing relatively well here in Montreal. So can’t complain work wise as long as you are patient, do what you have to do you should make it. For me the biggest drawbacks are the harsh climate and the difficulty to make Canadian friends but plenty of immigrants to befriend so. Also as an immigrant you need to adapt and a lot of people cannot adapt to a new country and want to have what they had back home here that is not realistic. Immigration is not for everyone. But no regrets.

Having 3 degrees including a MSc. I can confirm that it's hard to get even an acknowledgement from the employer. Lack of Canadian experience or education comes in way and almost feels like discrimination . So many people have to ditch their dreams for a survival job. It's a trade off not everyone is comfortable doing. It's a shame so much human capital is lost but it also provides cheap stable labour so I'm sure they won't complain.
