Do I need to have work experience for moving in Canada

Always been friends? Thats funny because pretty sure that iff WW2 had not happened, Canada would have invaded the US as payback for the 1812 war. Because without WW2, the US never gets a war economy, all they have are riffle foot soldiers. Meanwhile Canada was already in a war economy due to its massive involvement in WW1 and viewed the US as a rival with a dangerously high population. Also in WW1 Canadian were feared for its crualty and its no mercy policies of make no prisoners, kill the surrendering, kill the wounded and their families. And right after WW1 Canada was in the perfect position fix the population problem by committing mass genocide against the US. It was really in WW2 where britain forced us to work side by side with the americans that a real friendship started between the US and Canada.

Great advice. I just applied for a working visa for Canada (from Ireland). My dream is to live in Montreal but my French isn’t fluent yet (at best it’s “intermediate”) but I’m working with a tutor and plan to sit CELF exams in June. My degree is in marketing but I’m tempted to work in customer service and built up my french that way. Part of me just wants to focus on marketing so basically Toronto.

I am a born citizen of this country, but after receiving a degree, my interest was social work, I was totally burnt out, and furthermore, I did not qualify to work for the government due to the fact I spoke only one language, English. I am close to retirement now, had no real advances, and settled for a low paying job that provides me with the basics. I have met several angry immigrants throughout my life, I know what they are going through, Canada is a lie. It may be a safe country to live in, but a tough country to live in.

I escaped from fascist/communist Czechoslovakia in 1980. The police state of Canada is now far worse than it ever was there. \n\nI have shut down all my businesses this last year. Laid off 65 employees. And am leaving. Ive lived in Canada for 51 years .there has always been a job for me in all the 4 western provinces when i have asked for work.You must be flexible and possibly travel long distances to work between cities.people are friendly and willing to help .Some friends i know go home every few years and visit their Dr.then. many others have only been to the eye Dr.and dentist .A good healthy life in the North and all the freedom one needs .Eat fish and wild meat and all the berries and mushrooms you can pick.Doctors have been available when needed.Things in Northern Canada are expensive! Everything! Plan everything you do as weather can be a problem unless you are prepared.Ive often thot of moving back home but after a visit each time i have felt that i did not have the freedom of space and the wiggle room to do as you please on your own property.Cheers!

Not sure where you ladies migrated from but the healthcare in Canada is terrible for a country that calls itself wealthy! What is more important in life than health and getting timely access to services. I have had to wait 6 months for a simple ultrasound, my friends had to wait a year for an MRI, more than a year to see a specialist of any kind. Not only that the administration procedures are backward where they send an appointment letter by Canada Post (not kidding). \nTaxes are extremely high! I know doctors who make decent money pay close to 55% of their salary in taxes. Housing in Toronto and Vancouver is sky high and you may be working all your life to afford a 2BR condo. \nMy advice is unless you are coming from a country that is down right terrible (Eastern European, Afghanistan, Pakistan, etc.), it is better to stay home. Additionally, if you think you will ever get rich in Canada, then you must get your head examined by a neurologist first.

I think some guys here are looking the glass half-empty, look at it half-full. Learn the language, accept the culture, be positive, be humble, don't compare your country of origin, this is Canada, if you have time and resources go back to school and be grateful you got here in CA. Canada doesn't owe you anything, remember you moved here freely. Think positive and be positive. My wife moved here 25 years ago luckily she is a European trained musician, all her credentials were recognized and she is still teaching music here in Alberta. \nAt first she was very homesick understandably but.luckily we were able to move her aging parents here 16 years ago. They got treated like royalty by the Canadian Government compared to my Canadian born parents showered with benefits even though they never worked in Canada one day. I know this is no.longer the case for new.immigrants but on the whole Canada has one of the most generous immigration policies on the planet.\nI feel for new.immigrants it's a very rough transition to make but after 200 plus years in Canada I thank my ancestors for taking a huge risk in coming here every day.

Canada is a land with great resources, great opportunity and potential, but for a place with so much supposedly smart people they do alot of dumb things. Been here 7 years now and I have seen so many issues that have obvious solutions but because of some weird culture or heritage or whatever they just keep doing the same thing until it hurts them. The real estate market is an absolute MESS and everybody knows. Money laundering, realtors colluding to set prices, blind auctions etc you name it. But they are just gonna keep doing the same thing until the country is in a major recession. Then everybody is going to be crying for bailouts. The health system is a MESS. Trying to find a doctor is like finding a needle in a haystack. They have them driving taxis instead, claiming that their qualifications arent as good. Yet they dont have enough doctors or nurses to support anything. Coworkers whose spouses work in those industries let me know they have to be working ridiculous shifts because there are not enough people. The taxes are ridiculous. I work in I.T. and taxes are like roughly half my salary. Many coworkers have told me all the illegal stuff they do to get around the taxes. Which I don't do because I wasn't raised like that. But people get taxed so much everyone is doing some thing to try to bypass it. And if you dont know the tricks or dont want to do them, you just get screwed. People don't talk about real issues here. There is alot of fake positivity and optimism because they dont want people to get sad and suicidal from the really long and harsh winter. I used to wonder why there were so many train delays until some one explained to me that many people commit suicides in winter by stepping in front of the trains. The only thing propping up this country is the constant influx of immigrant slave labour through the college system, (Like a ponzi scheme). But the immigrants are going to stop coming here if they cant even afford to live at all. Even the regular citizens cant afford it. So what will the country do after that, since there is an elderly population and not enough people to support the industries? Right now most of the immigrants come here and save up there money to go somewhere else or back home after they realize what a shitshow it is. I even have coworkers born and raised in Canada who are telling me they want to leave. Canada needs to stop patting itself on the back for doing stupid apologies and stuff like that, and actually do economically sound things to stop digging themselves into this hole. Great potential for this country but I don't know if it will ever be realized.

Like I don’t understand how long are we looking at before this country fails! The cost of living and housing is mind-boggling!!! I moved here. It’s been three years. It’s been all struggles and trying to catch up and then prices rise again…i’m literally tied to work just like majority of the immigrants and majority of the middle class Canada…it’s the best country to live in if you’ve never ending amount of money…like can you imagine that you get one life and majority of it’s spent on work…wouldn’t it be amazing to have a normal job and get paid good and have reasonable time off and go to bed without worrying about finances? In my opinion, a country where teachers, nurses, and people running this country can’t find a house or live happily, that country is bound to fail…i’m planning to move to USA…i can’t do this anymore

Manitoban here. I've lived here all my 70 years and have never regretted it. I've never been out of work. If you've never travelled Manitoba, then you've never seen the most beautiful scenery of most provinces. Your comments on Canada's provinces is unappreciated and disgusting. Canada is beautiful no matter which province you live in, so take your childish opinion and shove it.

To me, the problem is threefold. a) Toronto and Ontario in general - and perhaps the whole of Canada - are accepting way more immigrants than they have quality jobs for. If you need taxi drivers and plumbers, maybe this experience should be valued way higher than education as part of the existing immigration programs (which is not the case). At least then potential immigrants know this before they come and get stuck in low-paying or relatively OK-paying but repetitive and demoralizing jobs with debts and mortgages that become a trap preventing them from leaving. It's also partially on immigrants themselves who come to Toronto to only find out there's 100 people competing for one spot and that you need to be exceptional - or connected through your ethnic network - to work regular white-collar jobs. b) The official bipartisan policy of non-integration. The naive expectation that having people live in ethnic enclaves will somehow make the overall culture richer is not what happens: instead, people tend to stick to their own communities and the common culture thus gets eroded and limited to economic and financial matters. This makes some cities feel like one large business with everyone networking 24/7 instead of socializing normally. And arguably, having the right culture / social life is what motivates already successful people move in the first place. So when they come and they find out there's nothing but money talk and hustling, they leave (if they're smart). Quebec is doing better in that regard, but then Quebec is not really Canada and it's been pressured to cave in to the same money-centred, uncultured and disconnected society by the feds for decades now. The States is smarter in that it actually makes sure to integrate its immigrants (and let's be honest, many immigrants like being part of a new culture if it fits them) c) Treating real estate as an investment and not as a basic necessity (as Japan or some Nordic countries do, for example). That coupled with a lot of Asian money being laundered in Canada through immigration channels and private equity firms buying whole apartment blocks for rental purposes has led to the highest housing price increase in all of the developed world in the past 20 years or so. The median price of a condo in Toronto is higher than in New York despite the massive gap in salaries and the fact that New York is one of the most expensive cities in the world to begin with. Some draconian measures are needed here to prevent foreign - or even out-of-province ownership -, second property ownership and corporate ownership for renting purposes.

As a half century Canadian I have this piece of advice to all who want to come live here, in Canada, you MUST work, then you MUST contribute at least 30% of your salary to all Canadian benefits including a pension plan, healthcare, education, and low income help is also available. Then you get old and your Canadian kids think of which old folks home they will put you in, if you're lucky you have a good and safe life from war, gun violence, a fair election system, and open arms to ANY human that wants to become Canadian, and that's about it.\nSo if you're in for a free ride, or a easy living off way of life, forget Canada.\nThe beaver is our emblem, hard working, never quit, perseverance and determination.\nCanadians are known around the world for one thing, ? we are kind and forgiving.\nStay safe, and sorry you didn't like Canada, can't be perfect.✌️??✌??

Many leave their own country, and come to Canada BECAUSE of their dislikes; extremism, culture, religion, laws, identity and in some cases backwards thinking; attempt to turn what we in society would consider as sexist, and discriminatory in some examples….\n\n…however when those same individuals finally achieve citizenship, or in some cases this starts (attempt to change Canadian law(s)) before obtaining citizenship, making moves to force the above, everything they despised, hated or disliked about their own country, into this new country ? Its like, the expectation is that we assimilate to them, not that they assimilate to their new chosen country??\n\nIt appears in some cases, going as far as attempting to rationalize why the the very thing they left their own country for, should now be a part of or have a place in Canadian society….where in any place in the World does this happen? Would it happen? Can you imagine, if I were a guest in someone else’s home, being invited over for dinner, but they had rules…like taking off your shoes when entering their home…or demanded they change their menu that they worked hard making for me to eat..or that I do not put my feet up in the coffee table or furniture…but I said, screw that, I don’t agree with their rules..I’m just going to do what I want! What would be the outcome do you think if I were to disrespect their rules?\n\nWhen Canadians have the audacity to say NO, we’re not interested in adopting …the rules/laws of the country they just abandoned…we’re now somehow insulted, or angered the guest? …the same Canada that has welcomed, provided safety, roof over their heads, food on the table, an education for their children, and provided access to our medical (albeit far from perfect) infrastructure.\n\nTo stomp their feet, bang their fist on the table when discovered that it’s expected to take four years of your life to become a doctor (which btw if you’re smart enough to become a doctor, you should be smart enough to of researched the expectations, PRIOR to coming to Canada) in the Country that YOU have chosen to spend the rest of their lives in, to have to work in a job to help support you and your families transitions,…imho, is NOT an unreasonable ask….that 4-5 years of their next 40-50+ ? Well, if that is considered a hardship, then maybe they need to rethink their intent. I am also an immigrant but can tell you that Medical school in Canada is extremely competitive. Foreigners don’t have a clue the extremely amount of work (top marks, volunteering, MCAT, Casper, interviews, etc) it takes to at least be called for an interview. In some countries you leave high school and can go straight to a private medical school and pay for your medical license. So, I hope Canada keep appreciating people from here.

Just fyi, Ontario is the biggest province in terms of population size and not Quebec, and by far. However, Montreal (Quebec biggest city) is indeed one of the best city in Canada because of it's different cultural/shows events that are happening almost all year long, and it's very diverse as well. Also, in the western part of Montreal it wouldn't be a problem for a unilingual anglophone to live there because everyone is bilingual or unilingual English. Quebec city is also the oldest city in North America, a very nice place to visit and only 250 km from Montreal. If one is working in the financial sector however Toronto remains the real option in my opinion, but his way more expensive and so, so boring compared to Montreal.

As an older Canadian who was educated in Canada with a B.Ed. - then worked away from Canada for thirty of my forty years. There is no way to say that any country is the best one to live in; every country has strengths and weaknesses- that especially relate to your specific needs and wants. Coming back to the country of my citizenship was also extremely hard for me after working away for so many years. The way to do well anywhere in Canada, is to build up credibility/seniority at one job and stick with it. Whether you are university or self-educated- which is considered just as valuable in today's job market- you are going to face an uphill battle unless you are fairly established. Canada has a high level of unemployment and some sectors, have an overabundance of trained workers. When my Middle East friends tell me they would like to live and work in Canada, I give them the advice I would give anyone. First, think about your family or friends that you want to have around you in your daily life- that is number one. Nothing is more depressing than being alone. Weather is a big factor, but it can be tolerated if you are with your core family or friends. One hundred years ago when my ancestors fled war and revolution, they had no choice but to do their best to make a life in a very difficult climate (literally)- culturally and weather-wise. There are a number of refugees today that are in similar circumstances. They do their best to get past the difficulties for the sake of their children's futures. If you are not literally refugees, think hard about you choice to leave your core culture and people.

I am preparing to run away from Canada mainly because of hidden crime rate that is disastrously high (government targeting of innocent citizens), theft, racism and discrimination. Also Canadian companies do not like forigners to take their jobs and keep everything secret at work place. So new comers will be doing very low-brain kind of job. I was able to jump to very high levels in my profession and was training engineers and managers on electronic industry - even though they still dont want me to learn everything. So going back main homeland I can be more expert than them all. To me, Canada realy sucks.

I'm sorry but if you have to settle for a survival job for 1 year or 2, then the job market is bad. I have all of the sympathy in the world for the immigrants who leave. I myself had to leave Canada to move to France to find regular work as a land surveyor. And I'm Canadian! I find it 1000 times easier to find work in France, thanks to the numerous construction projects.

Great video, balanced opinions! One more reason immigrants leave after many years in Canada is not enough savings / years of work for retirement. In their home countries their pensions and savings last much longer. That being said, Canada is a great country to live in.

I'm Canadian and think the biggest issue is a lack of infrastructure. Even in a lot of major cities, things you'd expect to see like subway stations, corner markets, or arcades are uncommon. It's hard to find a job when there aren't many places to work, and it's hard to afford things when it's difficult or expensive to ship those things from place to place. Immigration could boost our population so we can better tackle these issues, but our system forces immigrants to start from scratch. That doesn't provide immigrants with much reason to choose Canada instead of the Netherlands, the USA, Singapore, or some other country.

I am Canadian, having grown up in Canada. I left for the States in 1998, after securing a green card and have no desire to return. Canada offered me nothing except unemployment, debt, and cold weather. Good riddance. It is very difficult to find work and housing in Canada. Education is a joke, because your degree does not guarantee you a career or the job you desire. The Canadian government has a historical record of offering citizenship to immigrants with false promises. Shame on this corrupt, self-serving, money-hungry Government. When I was growing up, one in 1000 people were non-white. Then the floodgates opened to nontraditional countries and multiculturalism was born. The Canadian culture I knew and grew up with was gone. Everyone is suddenly from somewhere else. Canada really has no culture. I don't even visit my family. They come to me! Good riddance Canada. Immigrants beware! You may be better off where you came from.

You gals are on point with most of the things. However, there are few things that were not discussed here that might be of help to those planning to immigrate. Things that they should know before they pack their bags in the hopes that they will have the best of both worlds once they land in Canada. Most immigration agents give false hopes as they get paid for doing so. So, research, research, research before you put all your money in one basket. While some people return to their home country because they eventually have come to realization that Canada will not give them the life they hoped for, others some how manage to settle down. Then there is another group that stay behind because they have no place to go because they made the big mistake of putting all they had in one basket and took risk of spending it in Canada. Also, if you are a professional, you are better off working in U.S than Canada. Job opportunities in U.S for professionals are far better than in Canada. Finding a job in Canada is based on whom you know rather than what your skill sets and qualifications are. Foreign qualifications including U.S degrees are not well accepted in Canada. U.S employers hire based on skill sets and whom you know is not much of a factor that will impact your job search. Unlike Canada, U.S accepts foreign qualified workers in most professional jobs and do not require that you to study in U.S for most professional fields. While pay is 40% more in U.S for the same job in Canada, home prices in U.S are 40% less expensive than in Canada. Food for thought.

My grandparents immigrated from Italy and Ireland. They never got nice warm Canada Goose jackets, clothes, Nike shoes designer jeans, free English lessons or welfare. They paid there way, bought their land and found work LEGALLY, paid to learn English.\nThey did not steal unemployed Canadians jobs going through Trudeaus let’s hire out of the country so our government funds part of the wage. What we get are lousy heath care workers who barely understand or speak the English language and are caring for our Elderly and mistreating them. This I saw first had. I took my Mother home out of a senior home and cancelled home care as they never showed up on time. Would they leave there parent in a urine soaked brief for 5 hours as that is how late they were. I had to quit my job to take care of her. I myself am disabled with a spinal injure. The worst part of “Home Care workers” is that they wanted me to call in and cancel so they got paid. This statement gave from the Home Care nurse in charge of these immigrants working here. Seven of my friends, who are educated health care workers, which they themselves paid for, not paid my our government. They can’t get a job. The last job I applied for and they ask you status I put that I am a Canadian refugee in my own country. \nPretty sad when on Remembrance Day you have these woke individuals begging for money to help refugees. They should be ashamed of themselves for this disgusting action as this is a time to remember the men and women who fought for our freedom. Trudeau is a total embarrassment to all Canadians. He brings in more refugees rather than helping Veterans and homeless Canadians.
