is not it open trade? USA can do whatever they want. Trump is doing it for his country. why do you talk it when it happens to only your country? They are doing the same thing to Iran, China and Russia for years. why did not talk like this when USA did same thing China and Russia and Iran. if they can do it to those countries, they will also do it to your country. What USA is doing to Russia, China and Iran for years is unjust and illegal. But as Canada you would not speak it out. As an American living abroad, it’s embarrassing to see my home country picking unnecessary fights with one of its closest allies. Slapping 25% tariffs on Canada—a country that has stood by the U.S. through wars, trade deals, and countless crises—isn’t just aggressive, it’s downright stupid. My family back home is already dealing with rising costs, and this kind of reckless economic policy only makes things worse. Tariffs aren’t paid by foreign countries; they’re paid by American consumers. Trump bragging about ‘punishing’ Canada is like punching your best friend in the face and then wondering why your hand hurts. Short-sighted, unnecessary, and ultimately self-destructive.

Let me explain the trading relationship briefly that occurs between Canada and the US for context. \n \nCanada Has a LOT of natural resources, more than our domestic manufacturing base needs (Uranium fuel, Lumber/paper products, Steel and other metals, Fertilizer for farms...etc). Therefore we sell those raw materials to the states where they are manufactured into goods, which we then buy back. a LOT of American service companies like tech, media (And yes, even banks)...etc also operates in Canada as well. (For the auto sector the parts flip back and forth across the border like 8 times) \n \nThis relationship alone has the American economy see a large trade surplus with Canada, however there is another element to it: Energy. \n \nCanada is also home to a LARGE amount of really cheap renewable hydro power in the east, and a LOT of oil in the west, due to a lack of infrastructure we really can only sell that oil to the states and therefore it is done at a discount. America refines this cheap oil into gas and is a large part of the reason why American gas is so cheap. They use this energy to power the same factories mentioned above. (Oh and also the NE states import a lot of that clean hydro electricity for the same reasons) \n \nThe US Buys SO MUCH of that cheap energy from us to power your industrial base, that it swings the numbers on the trade balance into a small deficit for the USA. (41 billion out of a TRILLION dollars total trade, or about -4.1% of total trade so literally a pretty small deficit) It also swing back and forth every year so \n \nThen comes Trump. He wants Canada as a 51st state and own the entire continent, therefore he manufactures an excurse that our border is leaky and that migrants and fentanyl are flowing over. (In actual case migrants and the flow of Fent is about 1% the amount that's crossing at the Mexico border but he needs an excuse) \n \nHe therefore puts 25% tariffs on us. Those tariffs will hit Canada harder than the 2008 financial crisis just for scale. \n \nOh and also for the most part American Refineries literally cant process any other oil than ours or Venezuela's because its thicker so tariffs on our oil will also really increase the priced of energy in the states by a huge amount just for the LOLs. As we've seen during the post covid recovery, since gas is priced in to the supply chain at every step (Manufacturing, transportation...etc), any increase at the pump will snowball into higher costs for everything at the store, on top of the extra cost of the tariffs on consumers. (Since every step will need to add it into their markup.)

I have never received aid from the UN, never receive money from other countries, nor assistance. Is no one in America tired of this? Here we are talking about Bourbon tax….lol. He said he WOULD resign once a new leader was picked through a democratic process. Right now, he's basically just doing photo ops in Ukraine, UK and anywhere else on our dime because Parliament is prorogued and the party in power, Liberal, is having a leadership race. So, while he may resign within the week once that leadership race is done, he's still technically in charge.\n\nWhat makes that race and the PM's prorogation so bad is that we're in the middle of a crisis - several actually - caused in part directly by Trudeau and his Liberals (and the NDP supporting them). The latest would be Trump's tariffs starting today, March 4, 2025. Trudeau always disappears during a crisis, leaving us to fend for ourselves - (1) COVID, he was at the cottage using every excuse not to be accountable for anything or using unconstitutional powers to crush a protest he didn't know how to handle, (2) Chinese spies, he's ignoring our intelligence service, (3) federal worker strike, he's in NYC at some gala.... I could go on but there's a reason we're hurting so bad.\n\nWe have zero federal leadership, and a federal government that makes things worse for us with things like: over-regulation, subsidizing media to keep us misinformed, nerfing select natural resource sectors but favoring others (oil and gas suffer, while coal is fine... probably because we sell it to China, but I digress), letting criminal out of jail, uncontrolled immigration, passing policies like the FHSA that drive home prices higher and higher, and of course, more and more taxes. I could go on about the billions in taxpayers' money the government blows - it's like a black hole - or the fact that MPs keep getting raises - April 1 is their fifth since COVID - and most federal and government employees are all getting raises at a time when the rest of us are learning to get by with less and less because we're taxed so much and housing, groceries, etc. are so unaffordable.\n\nI have applied for US citizenship. I want to stick around to fix Canada, but I think it's too far gone. We have too many socialists/communists in power and they're not getting voted out any time soon. Indians have used Canada like a flop house. Indians go to diploma mills and try to use it as a backdoor to stay in Canada. They take over Canadian communities and try to turn them into India - making the locals feel like foreigners in their own home. They're also involved in a lot of crime. This includes: auto theft rings, synthetic ID/credit fraud, gun and drug smuggling, and one of the largest gold heists in Canadian history at Toronto Pearson airport. Americans have stated that the top nationality entering the US illegally from Canada is Indian. The drugs they are complaining about entering the US from Canada are almost entirely brought in by Indian truck drivers (Google it and find many examples). A Fentanyl super lab in BC capable of producing over 95 million lethal doses that was busted was run by an Indian. This is now threatening trade with our main trade partner as a trade war has just started. ENOUGH ALREADY! Indians need to be sent home, and banned from entering Canada.

Honestly, the way of saying that one people is more productive then the other is such an extreme oversimplification. I know this is a general term used by economists, but I can’t see the benefit. It is divisive and I feel like it would be more beneficial and interesting to just dive into each countries finacial strategy. \n\nP.S. In Japan buildings depreciate in value, like cars, so the house I built last year is worth less this year (and my taxes on it are less). When I first got here I thought it was a horrible system, but now I see what a powerful benefit it is. Housing is quite affordable and there are lots of mixed neighborhoods, like mine, with million-dollar homes, small multi-units, and fewer gated communities. We suffer from a blight of abandoned buildings because at a certain point it just doesn't make economic sense to fix up an old (often cheaply made) home. But because home ownership is a luxury, like a fancy car, not a necessary means to accrue wealth, mortgages and rents are low and there's cheap (and small, so very very small) housing everywhere.

Canada wont go to sell in EU or China it's over seas way to long and most of the times still has to go thru the US lol it's to costly for one, and EU just wont cover all the cost, forget the logistic nightmare. US is like a 2 hour drive away!! big big difference. So simple, trumps tariffs will make Canadien companies sell there product higher so they dont lose to much profits. what does that do? US wont buy! then companies shut down, people loose their jobs. very simple. Many go on welfare for a year, when they run out older one or less educated one cant find jobs etc...Trump will kill Canada plain and simple. that's it that's all. He want our resources and will do it, we are done for. this will also kill truck drivers and many many many side workers. until we are part of the US.

Canada needs more strict visa requirements. The. Fact you can just come on visitor visa or study visa and stay most international students don’t even show up for school. Canada needs to stop giving out visas like it’s Halloween Candy. 500,000 international students went missing they came into Canada were supposed to go back after there end date and went missing . The system is broken . Many get a visa to study or get a tourist visa and DONT LEAVE. They are mostly staying with relatives that are Canadian. And they work in cash . This is what’s really happening. Many bring falls work experience and fake work papers from back home
