The thing is, Canada really isn't that big, given that almost the entire population lives in a tiny sliver of the geography, and Toronto and Vancouver have insane housing prices already. Expansive immigration policy without a similar plan for housing means thise immigrants will eventually end up in the US. And I am an immigrant from Canada to the US.

As an American living in Canada for almost 50 years, there is absolutely no way that I would consider moving back to the US at this time. The political environment has become so polarized and, quite frankly, I'm really worried that democracy is in jeopardy in the United States. I echo the sentiment of all those who have said that the gun culture, racism, misogyny, and lack of equal access to healthcare are all excellent reasons to avoid moving to the US.

Lots of complacent Canadians on here bragging about health care and whatnot. Things aren't going very well, with skyrocketing housung costs, inflation, high taxes, health care system isn't doing well. Canada also has a government that couldn't care less about doing anything to fix these problems.

As a Canadian from the Maritimes I have to agree with all the reasons he read. Any time I travel south I have the highest travel insurance to fly me back to Canada if something happens. I have visited the US many times and enjoyed it while I was there but was VERY happy to be home. I agree the small towns are safER but I saw people driving around with 5 LARGE guns in the roof rack of their truck, I DO NOT mean hunting rifles. NOPE! Got in the rental car and headed North out of Georgia right away. The South IS beautiful to see and may people were very sweet but I did not feel safe there. I prefer the Northern states. I was thinking about my yearly vacation options recently and the US was NO WHERE on my list. Mostly Northern Europe, Italy, and Greece. Sorry, but that's my opinion of my travels there.

We pay for healthcare in Canada. It’s just paid through higher taxes. And that healthcare covers everyone regardless of their income.

Very discouraged podcast for people who have worked hard here , this is just a view point from one perspective, think about that how people who are like earning minimum wage in canada are not living a deprived life as more of the population live in india , we all come from a good background in india , but everyone desrves a good life that is not avaible in india , the people from remote villages in india , can stand up to the level of people working in Multinationals in india basically there is huge gap status in india which leads to so many problems overall , very very negative perspective of these ladies . Economist here. A major problem with the Gini coeffeciant is it tends to drastically underestimate homelessness and 0 income individuals into its projections. So a major reason for the income inequality lowering in Canada is due to the astounding rises in homelessness.

Listening to your comments about school safety... A Texas family came to Central Canada just prior to covid, for a work related few monthes. Covid hit and they decided to stay here. When their children asked about live shooter drills, the Canadian kids didn't know what they were talking about. Imagine that. ?

I want to clarify something a lot of Canadians get wrong: Biggest bank of Canada is actually Desjardins but it is not controlled by OSFI because back 1995 everyone knew Québec was going to seperate from Canada. It got the approval from Canada, the support and recognition from multiple UN countries so Canada went ahead and did all the paper work in advance to prepare Québec for independence and because Québec was to keep using Canadian dollars, Desjardins the biggest bank in Québec became allowed to print its own Canadian cash... But then disaster: The 1995 referendum failed by 50 thousand votes and so Québec stayed in Canada and Desjardins won the lottery like the Federal reserve in the US did. I'm a CPA who works in both the US and Canada. Because of how small business (CCPC) taxes work in Canada, I would pay about 50% more in income taxes if I moved to the US. \nMost people will find their tax burden is lower in Canada. \nCanadians demand and get value for their taxes. and as a result, most Canadians (not all) still trust their government to do what is best for the majority.

Grew up in a border city; travelled extensively through 46 states. Canada may have issues but the USA has major problems. My answer - Nope.

I enjoy vacations in the USA and have visited about half of the States. It's an awesome place to visit but the best part alway is coming back home to Canada. PS I have a lot of American friends and I love them all ..to me they are no different than my Canadian friends.

I went to University in the states and lived there for a time, but since coming back to Canada I would never ever want to live in the states again. Canada is a much friendlier and safer country not to mention health care. It is when you get old down there that you are in jeopardy.

Don't listen to the naysayers... I am moving to the US next month and I CAN'T WAIT to get out of Canada! Everything you buy is too expensive, and that's AFTER the tax rate which is nothing short of grand robbery. Health Care was already abysmal with waitlists over a year for certain procedures, but in the last 3 years it fell apart even further. Crime is on the rise everywhere and government just releases everyone regardless of public risk (read into Saskatchewan mass shooting from last year).\n\nI am set to make $20,000 more in salary, without even taking exchange rate into account, and that is going from Vancouver which has among the highest salary average in Canada to a small American country side town.

I would not consider moving to the US because I have a lot of health problems and I wouldn't be able to get coverage for my conditions. In Canada I've had 4 times when I've had to go in for emergency surgery and they get me into surgery in a few hours (basically the time it takes to do all the blood work and prep). I know people complain about long wait times, but that's only for non threatening illness/injuries. There can be a line of people waiting for hours with their minor injuries, but that's because people with serious problems get bumped to the front of the line. That has saved my life on multiple occasions. I've also had to wait 4 months for surgeries that weren't life threatening, so I know what that's like too, but I'd rather wait longer for something non life threatening knowing that it's because they leave room for emergencies. \nMy sister moved to the US a year ago for her husband's job and his job has benefits that cover everything. They seem to enjoy it (they live in one of those custom built communities in Florida that is basically a Country Club)

We lived in the states for several years. We moved home to home to Canada and will NEVER move back to the states! They no longer have moderates, only extremes in politics and religion…oh wait, that’s the same thing now, isn’t it?

Hi Tyler I have been splitting my time between Florida and Vancouver for the last 25 yrs , my wife is American and my daughter went to high school and college in the US. The years prior to 2016 the Floridians were very warm and welcoming every year I returned for the 6 mo winter season. After the 2016 election things changed, I became one of those people (an unwanted foreigner). I still have my place in Florida but it’s time to sell and find a place that is more welcoming. I read an article a couple of yrs ago that Canadians pay approximately $500 m a year in property taxes to the State of Florida and contribute millions more to the Florida economy… as I see it now the division in the US is getting to be to much. We have our problems in Canada but we let people live their life their way and I live my life the way I choose and accept people just the way they are.

I live in Canada. In 1984 I bought a house in Florida as a vacation home. Ten years later I sold it. I bought a house in Costa Rica. Best move ever. Look at what is happenning all over the U.S. and especially Florida. Canada in the summer and Costa Rica for winter vacation. LOVE IT.

Canada is canada.I am from lahore and living in calgary from last 15 years. When I arrived in canada I had a good govt job of grade 19 in back home, but there was no satisfaction and peace. If you don't involve that system then you are fool. Because bribery is normal routine matter. Medical cost was very high. A lot of problems were in back home. No rewards and relevant jobs for children. That's why children become inferiority complex. No doubt after vivid living cost rises but even then not bad. Canada do not compromise on food so that's why every thing is in original form. Taste develope after passage of time and is no issue. Living style also be changed after passage of time. You can easily become familiar with weather. So canada is canada. Thanks.

To be fair, most of what we in Canada know of the US is through news and US entertainment. The picture I have of the US is of a life lived on edge and in fear. That said, I've seen You Tube/TikTok posts asking Americans living abroad what they found different. Many of expressed that they weren't as stressed because they weren't afraid.

My uncle moved to Texas when he married my Texan aunt, but I’m fairly certain that’s only because she has a medical condition that means she physically cannot endure the temperatures we get here in Canada in the winter months. She would have quite literally been housebound for a third of the year every year if she came up here.\n\nEdit: Also, Canada may have a smaller population than the US, but we actually have the second-largest total land mass out of all the countries in the world.
