I agree with most of your points, but as a person who immigrated to Canada 23 years ago, I am still happy that i did it, grateful for the opportunities that Canada offered to me, even though i had to work hard for everything. Few points i want to make for those who consider immigrating:\n1. Uprooting yourself from your country, and starting from the bottom in a foreign country is difficult, and not for everyone. Sometimes, when immigrants go back to visit their home countries, they try to present themselves as successful, and tend to exaggerate the positives. Having realistic expectations is crucial, do a thorough research beforehand, prepare yourself, and you will have better chances to succeed.\n2. I also lived in US for almost 2 years: US is better if you want to do business, or if you are highly specialized (IT, healthcare, etc.), but i wouldn't raise children there, even more so if i were a visible minority. \n3. If you are on top of your career at home, think twice before immigrating, unless you find a suitable position before arrival. If you are in a priviledged position, you have connections, doors are opened easily for you, you might find it difficult to adjust without these things. Many people leave their country because of corruption, they will find that they have more opportunities in Canada. \n4. There are some significant differences between provinces in Canada: Quebec offers low university tuition, Alberta offers the best ratio between average income and average housing costs. (You can buy a new house in Edmonton with about 300k) \n5. Canada might not be for those who want to become milionaires in few years, or for those who want a night life like Las Vegas or Ibiza... but if you are a young couple, motivated and hardworking, who want to raise children in a decent environment, to be able to send them to school without fear, Canada might be a good place.

Well said Mate. I'm Nigerian studying in Melbourne and you are very on point with your submissions. Australia is notoriously gaining a reputation of being a country of temporary immigrants. I dont see why I should give my best years to a country treating you as an option when canada is making you a priority. \n\nWould you have stayed on if you got a Job in your field that also chose to sponsor your PR? Would the cold in cananda make you reconsider your decisions? That's a racket I dont seem to understand. So much emphasis on skills and job shortages, yet many skilled graduates from their universities are being denied jobs based on their Residency status. \n\nI.met a Ghanain PHD student in my Uni who came from Canada, he said wages are higher here hence his reason for coming. \n\nLike you said , its a personal journey for everyone.\n\nSomehow, I don't blame them. Be careful. In this video you both sound like spoiled brats. Many people in your home country would do almost anything to trade places with either of you. It sounds like you would both be happier if you went back home. When you get there please contribute some of what you learned in Canada to the people around you. But before you leave please be sure to thank the Canadian government officials and the other Canadians who helped to make it possible for you to reside in Canada legally. You should both remember that there are millions of illegal immigrants in the US and Europe who would gladly trade places with either of you. By the way, I am not Canadian. Canada business system prefers the big franchises businesses that have millions of dollars. If you have a small shop or restaurant get beaten by the big corporations that has franchises. the food costs are high and when selling u just cant sell for a better profit that can actually make you money. The Chinese and Indians knows how to sell little many items at a low cost just to be on a very tinny profitable way to keep on going. The Multi big paying makes money in Canada not the small business immigrants come and create. Those business don't built wealth because the big corporations are pushed by the Gov more in creating jobs and paying the big corporate taxes that in turn the taxes help support the social programs for those that cant work and also providing the basic needs to those that needs it through the taxes paid. In many African states many of the individual business that strife and create wealth because there isn't too much huge corporations that competes with this small business like the first world nations. In SA for example we have seen an explosion of many migrants going there creating small business and striving better than they will be in Canada. The taxes are high in Canada that's true u cant be rich sorry u will work until you lose your hair f not your hair turns white in a very short time due to too much stress and worries. Canada is good for social programs it takes care off those that don't' work if you work forget about getting rich but supporting those that don't work through the allocated taxes. Canada and the first world nations supports Big corporation and Franchising not really a fan of small business even when they are here they just don't create huge profits to think they will make it. In fact when the economy falls those shops easily shut down entirely and when they do reopen they barely make profits. I have seen Nigerian, Ghanaian small shops with Ethiopian and Jamaican business.

I don't think higher tax rate is a good point when you compare it to a country like Nigeria. The maximum tax rate you can pay in Nigeria is 24% and it begins from anything from 5.6 million naira per annum. After paying that tax you pay for the school fees of your children, and you pay that 3 times every year, Asides school fees you buy generator and fuel it everyday to get something close to constant power supply. (I don't want to include healthcare because if you have a good HMO they will sort out that perfectly well)\nSome of us still pay security due if you live in an estate. \n\nThe point I am trying to make is that if your tax rate is high let's say to up to 50% and you are sure of the quality of education your children is getting in public schools so you don't have to pay for school fees, You don't have to buy generator and fuel it because there's constant electricity supply and there's good security so you don't have to pay for private security. You might realized that tax rate in Canada is effectively cheaper than here in Nigeria. Because you will still pay for school fees, generator and maintenance and private security and all these have a way of eating deep into your income.

I have to respectfully disagree with you girls on the tax system in Canada. You mention that you cannot be a millionaire or a billionaire. \n\nI really think that is the problem with our generation, excessive greed, everyone wants to be a millionaire/billionaire, but the reality is most of people in this world will only live an average middle class life or below, that has been the case throughout history in every country on earth. \n\nInstead of wanting to be a millionaire you should strive follow your passion and to master your craft, and if and when you do so, the end result maybe you achieving millionaire billionaire status \n\nThis how most rich people got their wealth, they worked at their craft and had passion and eventually they got the wealth that came along with it \n\nI agree with Canada's progressive tax system, the only problems we have run into since 2010 is that the government has been misallocating taxes collected and giving co-operate tax breaks. But the principle of the progressive tax system makes sense, because up until recently (2010ish) it prevented the nation's wealth from accumulating at the top and in the process increased the velocity of money.\n\n This enabled business to thrive because money was constantly changing hands instead of being concentrated at the top. \n\nThis had an overall effect of enabling most Canadians to join the middle class and in turn make Canada an attractive destination for many immigrants including your selves \n\nIf Canadian system did not have a progressive tax system, there would be gross inequality with all the associated problems (crime/drugs etc). \n\nI really think prospective immigrants should be realistic about their expectations before moving to Canada to avoid dissatisfaction. \n\nIf you could not be a millionaire in the country you were born in and of which culture you belong, but some how you believe that you can move half a world away and become a millionaire. \n\nYou know part of the reason you could not even achieve middle income statust in Africa (I am from Africa as well) let alone be a millionaire is because all the wealth in most African countries is concentrated in the hands of a few corrupt bastards in the government. \n\nThis concentration of wealth at the top is possible when there is no progressive tax system and ensures economic equilibrium in all sectors of the economy\n\nIt is the reason why there is no jobs or opportunity for young people in developing countries \n\nDo not get me wrong you can still be a millionaire in Canada, but you will have to really earn it, there is no shortcuts in life\n\nPatience, passion and perseverance is the key.

I dunno man I have been reading through the comments and it occurs to me.\nDont move from your own country out of the desire to make money or better ones career.\n\nMoney is a shallow thing and will leave you wanting every time.\n\nIf you do leave your country, do it to escape persecution or because you are in love and are getting married to someone and it is easier to move to where they are.\n\nI moved from the US to the Netherlands due to the latter, and have lived here for several years.\n\nI am comfortable here, and the particular Dutch culture I live around (In the Gelderland), is similar to the region of America I am from, even the food is similar but; people are born and tied to the dirt of their Grandparents.\n\nThe love of my wife is why I have remained. \nI know that someday I will likely move to back to America, and when we do my Dutch wife will make the same sacrifice.

I can agree with these comments if your not American, growing up we had all that interaction with family, friends and neighbors. Life n times have changed in America due to gun violence, especially in large cities. Socializing is different in every state in America and in every country. I can understand how if your not accustomed to our ways of life even today, that you would prefer your ways of living back in your hometown and your Country. If you live in a big City in America and moved there from a smaller town in America, you will be feeling some loneliness, that's normal to us in America. If your American then you adjust to making n meeting new people, that hasn't been so easy with the pandemic for anyone. To compare our homes in one community from another or even from another country, is just criticism. We don't have a specific way of living, as far as our homes are constructed. This is how as American's we have always lived, small homes, large homes, big cities, small towns. Since the pandemic we do find ourselves spending more time inside due to no fault of our own. We do have different ways of living but so do other countries which we do enjoy when we visit. If you want to learn more about America and our lifestyles and history, you should do that. Every Country has it's government rules n law's and we try to abide by them, that's what makes our Country n Our Nation Great, that's also why many people come here to visit or work and study. Loneliness can be anywhere, depending on the person you are and reaching out to make new friends or just acquaintances is important. Especially, if your away from friends n family from home or a different Country. ✌️

I am an Irish man that moved to the U.S.S.A twenty years ago. And my ass and all my other bits and pieces are now ( Thanks Christ be to Jesus) back in Ireland. America is not a country its a business. The most God dam cold vacuous depressing soulless place on this planet. Land of the fee and home of the slave. An open air prison with so many God dam rules and regulations it will make your head spin. Thank feck I have traveled . I have been all around Europe and South America, and a little to Africa. And I can say hands down. You don't live when you are in that God forsaken country Amerika. You exist. Nobody has any time. Nobody talks to or trusts anyone. The only time someone talks to you is if they want to sell you something. It's the land of fake smiles and fake personalities. They are void of any sense of humor, and please don't get me started on the woman. They are co co co colder than a witches tit. The cost of living is ridiculous. The cost of housing a joke. Most people working two jobs, just for basics. The food in the grocery stores is utter shite. You are taxed up the gill and you get nothing for it. I could go on and on and on for days about this. On a positive note however, it does have a lot of airports if you want to get the feck out of there. Oh and the elections are fixed. I voted with my feet and left. Life is to short to live in a shit country!

Quietly homeownership will disappear over the next 25-50 yrs. Big business will own most homes in big city. The rich will make sure they have control more and more, farmers will lease/rent the land and homes will be rented. Only big business will be able to pay the maintenance and taxes on buildings and land soon and also right it off. Just wait until the next big recession when many lose pensions, jobs, investments, and bitcoin crashes. Not only will it be dual income families instead of single income nowadays…it will be 2 families in homes, quadruple income and working until they are 65 or even 70….trudeau smiles and pretends he will fix everything while Canadians suffer more and more. If you have a chance to sell and then buy in a safer community, do it now because if you have not noticed a lot more homeless and vanlifers yet, or occupied camper trailers in friends and families driveways then you will notice soon, try and buy where crime is less of an issue while homes are easy to buy and sell.

Born in Eastern Europe (four-season climate), I thought I will get used to the weather in Canada ( Toronto ) but being in 'the dark' for 7 months gets you in time - high suicidal rates and depression not to exclude the drug and alcohol abuse of the populous. I love the sun and water scenario (not the humid one as a result of lake Ontario) wish I knew all that years ago when I had to make a choice.

It takes me 3 months to get a doctor appointment in the US here in Seattle and I was just told several months to see my eye doctor. Depending on medical plan the insurance means you do not go to the specialist without a referral. So Canadians may not have as much to complain about. My parents were immigrants to Canada because it was easier (my father was in Danish Merchant Marine and was in China Sea when his appointment would come up in New York). They did not have it easy because they did not speak the language and worked hard to learn. Working as a housekeeper was the norm for females and my mother's education meant nothing when she expected to work in a bank. Danes stuck together and helped each other to get jobs, with carpentry (most had apprenticeships like brick laying), to socialize, etc. and this is normal for immigrants. Working multiple jobs was normal and having a great home was their American dream instead of a government apartment. It is true for all immigrants that their kids will do better than the parents. The kids will have no accent if they learn English by age 12. There are age cutoffs on learning a language in child development. During the hiring process the jobs are given to people the interviewer perceives as being like themselves. This is proven by psychologists (I am one). This puts immigrants at a disadvantage unless they have a rare skill without competition. Dad got his house and Mom took my sister and went back to Denmark because of health issues and the US has garbage medical care and social services for the elderly (poor sister didn't speak Danish because it wasn't allowed in case it impacted our English skill). As a daughter of immigrants I worked 20 hours days and weekends almost all my life. I put myself through school and have been successful despite being female and making much less than men. Immigrants need to realize that it will be their kids who make the big bucks and succeed while the parents who immigrated will struggle. As a cultural mix (US, Canadian and Danish citizen because of wacky sexist rules) I have had a lot of confusion over the years trying to fit in and figure out what my values are. I have had to ask my US husband is that behavior normal? Of course different states in the US or going 200 miles north to Canada means a different language to speak (Canadian or Spanish in the South) and different values, ways of dress, etc. so being an immigrant can mean just traveling 200 miles north or to an insane state like Texas or New York. Culture shock is everywhere but most of us move for the money. I am thinking of going back to Canada but my home was Vancouver and that now looks like a hell hole. My husband had over a million dollars in medical care and I really do not wish to lose all my assets to medical costs in the US. So now I am trying to choose between death by earthquake in BC somewhere or death by tornado or perhaps fire storm in Calgary due to climate change.

To me, the problem is threefold. a) Toronto and Ontario in general - and perhaps the whole of Canada - are accepting way more immigrants than they have quality jobs for. If you need taxi drivers and plumbers, maybe this experience should be valued way higher than education as part of the existing immigration programs (which is not the case). At least then potential immigrants know this before they come and get stuck in low-paying or relatively OK-paying but repetitive and demoralizing jobs with debts and mortgages that become a trap preventing them from leaving. It's also partially on immigrants themselves who come to Toronto to only find out there's 100 people competing for one spot and that you need to be exceptional - or connected through your ethnic network - to work regular white-collar jobs. b) The official bipartisan policy of non-integration. The naive expectation that having people live in ethnic enclaves will somehow make the overall culture richer is not what happens: instead, people tend to stick to their own communities and the common culture thus gets eroded and limited to economic and financial matters. This makes some cities feel like one large business with everyone networking 24/7 instead of socializing normally. And arguably, having the right culture / social life is what motivates already successful people move in the first place. So when they come and they find out there's nothing but money talk and hustling, they leave (if they're smart). Quebec is doing better in that regard, but then Quebec is not really Canada and it's been pressured to cave in to the same money-centred, uncultured and disconnected society by the feds for decades now. The States is smarter in that it actually makes sure to integrate its immigrants (and let's be honest, many immigrants like being part of a new culture if it fits them) c) Treating real estate as an investment and not as a basic necessity (as Japan or some Nordic countries do, for example). That coupled with a lot of Asian money being laundered in Canada through immigration channels and private equity firms buying whole apartment blocks for rental purposes has led to the highest housing price increase in all of the developed world in the past 20 years or so. The median price of a condo in Toronto is higher than in New York despite the massive gap in salaries and the fact that New York is one of the most expensive cities in the world to begin with. Some draconian measures are needed here to prevent foreign - or even out-of-province ownership -, second property ownership and corporate ownership for renting purposes.

In the UK, In Hospitals they (European countries) do not hire SAFAARISHEE DOCTORS and their doctors do not strike for money and kill hundreds of patients and do not shoot to police during protests..... In Europe, They do not patronize your faith, they do not define your faith calling which sect is Muslim and who is not and they let you groom according to your talent in every walk of life. @ Make That Change, you are missing some topics!! A person who is born and raised in Vancouver before the 1980's and where both parents were also born and raised in Canada. Since the year 2000, the cost of owning a detached home has risen 10 folds. You could buy a corner lot house in a nice area and good location for an average of $160,000. Now that home would cost 10 times that cost in the last 20 years. Why? Foreign investors and immigration based on supply and demand as this also includes the increase in rent cost. People spend on average about $1000 to 1500 for a room to rent not their own suite in Vancouver. Twenty years ago, you could rent a whole house with a yard for that price on the waistcoats of BC. \n\nAnother issue, there are Canadians who do travel to USA due to people being in desperate need of care. USA has a wider spectrum of medical options in comparison to Canada. Canadians travel to USA because the waiting list is often way too long. Canada is nota complete free medical system as people hear and rehabilitation expenses are not free unless it is inside a hospital. It was from at one time as Medicare was founded on the grounds in the 1960's by Tommy Douglas, former premier of Saskatchewan, who initiated Medicare but it was no sustainable. \n\nJust because a person gets referred to a doctor, particularly a specialist when there are very few doctors in that area of care, it does not guarantee you will receive the treatment. I waited 2.5 years for a treatment in a hospital, only to be told that I was not a candidate for that treatment even though they did not screen me as a precursor before making a rational decision. DEVESTATING! Canadians if they have money often go to USA or Mexico when in desperate need. \n\nThere is a lack of doctors as many people do not have a family medical doctor who know their case personally. Complex diseases do not receive proper care as Canada does not have an integrated medical system of care amongst other doctors for patients. It has been on the news media where people have died being on the waiting list, returning back to hospitals where the hospital emergency because the concern of the disease was undermined with the overcrowded medical system.\n\nThere is a increased gentrification in the metropolitan cities that is an issue as the richer are now richer and the poorer are more poor. As there is an INCREASED immigration there is a huge stress in cost of living as there is not enough affordable housing and increased homelessness in Vancouver and Toronto. Vancouver is the worst place in North America as it is known as the drug hub called Skid Row. You can google this information as there are article written for 2021 and previously. Expo 86 and the 2010 Winter Olympics skyrocketed tourism and immigration that many people who are born and raised here before 1986 are very angry and resentful of how drastic the decline of how the quality of life has become.

Canada is what you make of it. You can arrive rich and end up poor and you can arrive poor and end up rich. In between that, you can have a great life that balances your needs. I’ve seen immigrants succeed simply because they see the opportunity in front of them . They worked hard in their own counties to stay just above the poverty line ,but when they apply that same effort here it pays off ten times greater. I feel that compared to a lot of immigrants, natural born Canadians come across as spoiled and a little lazy…we are. We haven’t had to struggle the same way someone from a poorer country might have. I’ve talked to people who’ve worked ten to twelve hours a day just to stay afloat. If you did that here you could make plenty of money to live and have some left over. As far as owning a house goes,yes it’s expensive . I feel that homeownership in any country is relatively expensive. Here is a tip; use that soaring home prices to your advantage. Houses are expensive but you can make a lot of money buying and selling. I recommend putting together a buyers group and share the house for a few years, then sell at a profit, buy a bigger house or two smaller houses.try to buy the worst house in the best neighbourhood and fix it up slowly . That house could double in value in five or six years in the Toronto market. This is nothing new of course ,the people from India and China seem to do this a lot here ,it drives up prices and profits. On the downside to this ,you are now part of the problem. As the housing prices are driven up the non wealthy can no longer afford to own a house . They are at the mercy of high rents with no rewards of ownership. They are caught in a cycle of hard work and (relative)poverty. This could also be you if you can’t keep up the house payments and are forced to rent.\nHow well you speak English is important but your native language is also useful here because Canada is half immigrants . As a Canadian that speaks only english (Irish descent)I have to say to all newcomers that I’m very impressed that you have learned a new language and that you may even speak more than two! Don’t be embarrassed about your abilities . I find that in my experience , Canadians do not look down on people just because they don’t know English. In fact ,I’ve known people that have lived here for decades and still know very little English. They are comfortable in their communities and they function just fine. Learn as much English as suits your needs and be proud of any gains you make.\nOutside of Toronto are other cities that you might consider when looking at southern Ontario.From my experience,most are generally the same, just not as big . There are large immigrant communities in London Ontario, Hamilton and just outside of Toronto where housing is just a little bit less expensive but the commute to work is probably longer. This is just my opinion but in the small towns there are less people of colour , (which is what people of no colour call everyone else . I wonder if I’m called a person of no colour in some other culture ? LoL ). That might make it harder for you to feel integrated ,if that’s what you want. I’m not saying that people from other cultures can’t make it in a small town , I’m just saying that it’s definitely not Toronto . Here, people of any nationality can feel like they have a place where they can belong . It seems that no matter where you are from ,there is a community already here that’s set up restaurants and stores and clothing shops and newcomer support systems. And if your from Portugal or China or India or Africa or the Middle East, there are large groups of your kin here that have established roots for generations and you probably know this already.\nToronto means meeting place and that becomes evident quickly. I was born here and it’s one of the things I love the most about my city. I’m not going to say that there isn’t systemic racism here ,the people of no colour still kind of keep the top position , but as we become a minority in a decade or so ,I hope that will shift to a broader spectrum. It’s certainly happening already. One good thing is that the police department tries to hire people of colour so that racialism may play a smaller role. We’re getting used to seeing our politicians more and more reflect their constituents.\nI have to talk about the weather. Because I’m from here I’m used to the extremes of minus thirty and plus thirty . Eventually you get used to it (somewhat). Dressing in the right clothes is important. Summer is easy , but winter is different. It’s trying to kill you. Spend the most that you can afford on winter cloths . If you can afford a quality parka you should get one. The hood can be drawn around the face and stay out of the wind.\nIf not ,think of layers with a outer layer that blocks the wind. We have things called long Johns that are basically full length thick cotton or nylon pants that go on under your pants and a pair of extra thick socks. Buy your boots to fit your thick socks. Try to get the best boots you can afford ,it’s something that you might spend a little extra for but never regret.\nAll in all we are a fairly organized and peaceful society. Most people are friendly and will give you a chance . We have a good social safety net here and you don’t have to be homeless or starving if you don’t want to. There are people and organizations set up to help ,that truly try to get people back on their feet. It’s a good investment that pays off in ways that matter for the quality of life in a big city. I’m not putting my American neighbours down when I say they do things differently. They have their ways ,we have ours. This is just something that we do because we’re trying to learn how to help those that society has discarded or can’t find their place. Sure we have one or two areas where the homeless have pitched tents and we have some resources for them if they want. Unfortunately The mayor recently forced a small camp to move from a very visible place to more scattered locations. There were social workers involved as well as protesters trying to protect them. The tests with the three friends, I'm not saying the racism it exposed doesn't exist, but I'm curious if attractiveness or character plays a factor in this as well (or even more). Getting different rental prices is outrages. Being stalked in a store is just weird, but a couple of checks I wouldn't mind. If nothing ever happens that will stop. Being asked if you can be helped should not be an issue. Although I admit it can be annoying (I rather shop without interference), but as long as they ask politely, being offended by it is your own problem. As for the hiring part is this video, I believe there might be even more discrimination based on age. I like the idea of blind hiring when possible. Hey Yes there is a problem of racism in Canada too. They will not show directly but indirectly will do that at most of the places. Its really rude especially when i try to help out somebody or don’t have any intentions to hurt people. I always try to make people happy and smile. Why is that? My son worked at Superstore and he said it was 90% Natives stealing and being caught for shoplifting. It is NOT just race. Depending on the bag or backpack you carry, you get followed, which I hate. And I'm not black. My mother also gets followed everywhere in every Macy's store. It drives me crazy. It's really annoying, because I think it's because my mom has big purses and I usually have my art backpack. \n\nWhen I'm in a different town, I get followed in Walmart all the time. If I forget my shopping bags, I will empty my backpack so I can use that to put all my items in at the end of the purchase.\n\n In Best Buy, I'm lucky to get anyone to help me at all!!! I have to hunt someone down, and most of the time, they don't know anything anyway. Target: I have a hard time finding anyone to help me as well. I haven't really done a social experiment, but sometimes I just have my shopping bags and fill them as I shop and I won't carry a purse.\n\nLocally, I don't get followed because my family and me are known in that town. We know a lot of people and my face is everywhere. I never get followed. But out of town Walmart, I get followed in certain stores. It irritates me immensely, especially since I buy a lot of make up and the make up department is cramped they way they block the end of the aisles. It makes it really hard to turn your cart around when other people are in the same aisle. Then they close the make up aisle even though they have tons of cameras all over!! \n\nOverall, I don't know WHERE these backhanded compliments are coming from. I normally hear stuff about my weight. Moving to Vancouver was a great experience tbh, I'm of nigerian heritage but was born in Finchley, North London...\nCanadians are friendly and extremely welcoming ( Coming from the UK i found this so off-putting ) lol. Needless to say, i did what she said and It worked the asian lady asked me to come get the keys later that day. I realize that some people are asses....that will never end. But the term racism is thrown around way too much. First of all, it’s tribalism and it’s a normal part of being human. Any thing that is ‘other’ or different will be viewed with suspicion and or dislike. It will never be stopped, it can’t be educated away and it can’t be made to go away by immersing people in multiculturalism. Think back to when you were a child even...seeing someone who was handicapped would make you wary of them. Now, when those normal perceptions cause you to treat someone bad or as a lesser person is when it becomes a problem. That CAN be educated away. But to attempt to make people feel bad because of there responses to the faces on the computer is ridiculous. EVERYONE, regardless of race, will have tendencies towards tribalistic thinking.

Yes I ran into racial profiling when I wanted to ask why CBC is biased and won't report fairly. Being white and male, I was told that my opinion is invalid, and in spite of the taxes I pay for their wages, I don't have any say. Moreover, because I am male, CBC's supreme leader Trudeau has dictated I am not allowed any sort of platform. This is an important issue! Why do you think these sterotypes are so prevalent CBC? Don't ever ask a white person if there is racism in their town, city, country, why? Because they are not targeted so how would they know? I used to trip on people watching me when I was in stores, however today @ 53 I don't care, all I ever say is if they ever grab me then I will take action, until then I'll shop till I drop! The racism that goes on in the workplace as well as rentals will probably never end because some white people just don't want(minorities)around, and since there is no law on the books that says they have to then it will never change. The late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said that the Government could never make a law to govern the hearts of men, maybe it's because King knew back then that even though the majority of us might want change, there are still a lot of people who would not change simply because they don't know anything else, so anything short of an act of GOD they probably still would never make them change, because you can't force people to obey a law that in their hearts they feel is wrong!!!

It seems very strange behaviour by Canada when you only have to look at the places where these people come from to gauge the future for a western society with them in it. Open borders is the cause of the increase in racism. You allow people in to people's towns unregulated and people will be unwelcomeing. There are many problems with anti-immigrant rhetoric and one of them is the classification who is and who isn't an immigrant and the question of when does a person stop becoming an immigrant and become a Canadian? A significant portion of people living in Canada are first/second/third generation Canadians and so, how do we classify these people, are they immigrants or are they not? And what of their parents/grandparents who immigrated, are they? It's very important to note that without their ancestor parents, all these first/second/third gen Canadians will not be here and they are now 'Canadians' today because we had pro-immigration laws. Also, the idea of accessing services is by itself, very problematic. I spent the first 4 years of my life here paying high tuition fees as well as tax that are used to subsidize fellow Canadians' tuition fees yet I'm not able to access any government services. Following graduation, I worked as a worker on visa where my tax was no less than an average Canadian yet government services were very much inaccessible to me. It was only after I became permanent resident, that somehow everything suddenly became available to me. I have been tax paying 6-7 years before I became a PR here yet all those years, I wasn't able to access a single thing yet somehow, after I became PR, I'm eligible for everything? The tax argument doesn't make sense at all. I will be eligible to apply for citizenship in like a year and does that mean now I am one of you, Canadians?

When we learn to look upon one another with compassion regardless of their race, religion or personal belief's and look instead at the heart of an individual, only then will we make strides to heal and to connect one another across Canada and the world. There's an overwhelming racism borne of intolerance for one another and intolerance is borne in my opinion often of fear. When we don't understand someone, we do tend to make up something to line the box that we force someone to live from but would never accept the same for ourselves. Most the retail places i am not sure.. and I am not going to say that racism doesn't happen in these stores because i don't know for certain.. but i am going to post something to think about.. If their best buy is like the best buy where I live.. I knew people who worked best buy.. and certain floor reps get paid at least in part via commission.. or at least they use to.. typically the ones that approach you are the ones working to make sales.. they will usually only do so in certain areas though.. such as Computer area, home entertainment area, appliance area, phone area, POSSIBLY game area particularly if they notice you looking at the consoles, and occasionally I get approached when i am looking at personal entertainment stuffs such as the decent headphone and ipod/mp3 player area... If you stick to CDs, movies and stuff that you can just grab .. typically they wont bother you much.. unless you linger there too long.. then a floor rep might think you might need help looking at something.. In my experience they are just overly hover because they have to be.. but unless you are looking at something that is a focus of sales or a board employee finds you .. you almost have to hunt down reps to help you with something..

I don't feel angry or upset, because I've experience being followed in a store and I've worked in clothing retail and seen the actual types of people that do steal and to be honest, it doesn't matter the color of the skin or the amount of money a person have, thieves come in all different background. I've seen white women steal, I've seen black women steal, I've seen Hispanic women steal. I've seen a group of people steal, I've seen toddlers steal. What they taught me in retail is just like best buy, you have to make your presence known, but there is a difference between harassment and actually helping the customer. The sad thing is this will never go away as long as people continue to steal. and when you have minorities that do steal, it makes it hard for the other hard working minorities to catch a break.
