We know that our president is a frigging idiot, but the fact he *noticeably* drops his language grade level when “talking directly to” Trump and says “we’ve done *big things*” twice and calls him a “very smart guy” and pulls it into a schoolyard metaphor of “two friends fighting.”\n\nI couldn’t wrap my head around how we got saddled with this joke of a human in 2016. \nCouldn’t fathom how it was close in 2020.\nWant to vomit every day that we allowed this deep, unchecked harm to befall us, our allies, and the entire world. \n\nI keep wanting to just wake up.\nI feel so insane that we seem to have literally no power to stop this, and that the *entirety* of the GOP is completely fine with this. They have the power, but truly with small margins. But they’re just … all complicit in this.\n\nAnd even NOW, when it’s clearly going to fuck the economy and markets in ways that hurt actual corporations (who truly run it all now, from all sides of the political aisle except what seems like 5 social Dems/independents federally), even THE MONEY isn’t talking.

For all the American's siding with Canada. Did you know Canada has never fulfilled its obligation to Nato. they only pay 1% of its gdp. They are supposed to pat 2%. The united States has been carrying the water for Canada and other countries so they can flaunt social programs like universal healthcare. If they paid their fair share for defense they would not be able to afford it. Its about time these countries start paying the United states back. Since Canada became a member of Nato in 1949 they have never fulfilled their payment obligation, but enjoyed the security of being a member. America pays 4.5% and some other years 6% of our gdp to NATO. with out the US there is no NATO. Maybe Canada should take over for the US. Like that will happen. Americans obviously didn’t understand what tariffs are, didn’t get that it’s an import tax which they must pay on goods and products they buy from Canada, a tax which tRump collects from Americans and uses to pay for tax-cuts for the richest citizens. But one more thing Americans don’t get is that before this fateful day an unofficial boycott against ALL US goods has been growing since tRump insulted Canada’s Prime Minister and threatened Canada’s sovereignty—whereas Canada’s official countervails ( which only kicked-in today )only target certain US goods, not ALL of them like ordinary Canadians are doing in growing numbers right now—in fact, the imposition of tRump’s tariffs today has only made the unofficial boycott bigger and more organized. It’s heartening that so many nations have solicited Canada, offering alternative sources for common US exports to Canada —citrus fruits, pharmaceuticals, and other manufactures, to name a few.\n\nI don’t think Canadians even realize how big this unofficial boycott is getting because it’s growing so fast. I’ve never seen a surge in Canadian patriotism like this. Never in my seven decades —which includes the two Referenda on Quebec separation. And there’s a federal election approaching when all partisans will be one-upping each other in the patriotism department—which manifests in more boycotts of US goods and hospitality services.\n\n Americans should know that the unofficial boycott is more harmful to US exporters than the official targeted countervails because it features immediate and longterm diminishment of Canadian purchases of US goods—all retailers know it’s very hard to recover lost customers once they’ve found alternatives (and the added patriotic effect only makes it worse). Included is diminishment of Canadian visits to the USA. Indeed, the internet is replete with testimonies of Canadian”snow birds” not only forgoing their annual sojourn in the Florida or Arizona sunshine but also of selling their properties there with the parting shot, “I will never vacation in the US again!” Already Mexico has seen its visits from Canadians (who have had a modest presence in Mexico for years) surge to unprecedented levels. I know from much-welcomed temp Mexican construction workers in BC (where I live) that they view Canadians completely differently from our mutual US neighbours—and now that affection is growing like never before. \n\nI’m continually amazed at how uninformed Americans are about tariffs—and misinformed by tRump and his goofy, preposterous, and ridiculous fantasy of world-domination. When tRump uses the lame excuse to implement emergency powers —that Canada is “allowing” (as Vance puts it) fentanyl to “pour into the USA”—it’s tantamount to saying Ukraine started the war with Russia. Trump just made 2 announcements:\n\n1. He’s cutting off military aid to Ukraine, which has large deposits of rare earth minerals, basically handing it off to Putin on a silver platter.\n\n2. TSMC, a Taiwanese semiconductor manufacturing company is investing $200 billion dollars in the US and he’s taking credit for the creation of jobs this will generate.\n\nWhat do you need to make semiconductors? Rare earth minerals! Anyone smart enough to put two and two together would know that Trump, Musk and Putin are in cahoots to take Ukraine’s minerals and the meeting with Zelensky in the Oval Office in front of cameras was just to corner him and make him look like an ungrateful dictator so Americans would rally against him and justify cutting off military aid.\n\nThe Republicans in congress are set to make a pretty good fortune by playing defense. Enough money to not give a d@mn about reelection. It’s all corruption. Turning our backs on our allies and cozying up with dictators just so Trump, Musk and their buddies can add more billions to their bank accounts!

As a patriotic proud Canadian. This goes to show Canada what time it really is. It's time to develop our nuclear weapons systems. We have a right to defend ourselves like the USA and all other countries who have nuclear weapons to defend themselves.  Canada being the first country to build a nuclear reactor in the 1950s , it's time we take our defense for our nation,as it shows we cannot trust our neighbor. Just like Poland, Hungary, Austria, France couldn't trust their neighbor Germany.

To the Americans who are outraged by Trump, you need to stand up and truly fight like the MAGAts did when they stormed the capital on Jan 6th. If you really have a problem with whats going on you need to take a stand and make a difference. If you just sit back then you are allowing it to go on. I have voted for Trump 3 times. Canada has over charged the USA through tariffs for years. I know you will miss the money but just suck it up like we have had to do. It's easier up there bcuz that border isn't as secure as the southern border. I guarantee you their statistics for fentynal crossing in via Canada is wrong. They should have already been doing their job at that border. Trump had to threaten them in order for them to use drones, etc. at the border. They should have been doing that. Trump can't prove that these drugs are coming through Canada unseen. This is only designed to destabilize The United States so that we are forced into dealing with Putin and Russia. As an American and a Trump supporter, I agree with these tariffs, but only equal to the tariffs other countries charge the United States on our imports. I do not agree with imposing this on our brothers and sisters to the north. I’m speaking of the good people of Canada. I have traveled to Canada and crossing the border was just like crossing into another state. Yes, there was a border gate which there should be, but I had absolutely no problem whatsoever. I hope our government can work this out very quickly and stop this foolishness. But to countries like China and Europe the United States should charge a reciprocal tariff as to what you charge us on our import. It’s only fair. Why are we paying an exuberant tariff for our goods entering your country and you expect to pay nothing with your goods entering ours. Most Americans, love Canada and love our Canadian brothers and sisters, we’ve always supported each other in world, wars, and other attacks against our respective countries. I pray this is resolved quickly, and then we can once again live United and in harmony.

While I don’t agree with Trumps tariffs, I understand why he’s doing them. As a Canadian citizen, please don’t glamorize Trudeau- hes a spoiled rotten brat of a former PM. Nothing more. You’ve not lived the last 10 years under his totalitarian govt, suspending the rights of Canadians at will, insulting and dividing our country at will, taking away legal firearms owners rights rights at will (people who had to pass safety courses and are more vetted than RCMP officers). \n\nHe’s proven to be more fake than a $3 dollar bill. We know why HE is doing this. He is pushing an imperialistic agenda, so he can be like those he admires. He's hoping that Canada will bend at the knee and give in so that he can claim Canada as a 51st state. But guess what? That won't happen. He's just doing himself and his country harm. He doesn't care about you, or me, or us as two countries that have always worked together.
