I was a foreign student in Canada (35 years ago). My student visa required proof of ability to support myself. It never occurred to me that the Canadian taxpayer should support me. Apparently things have changed. A lot.

I used to study in one of Canadian colleges back in 2018 and lately graduated in 2021s. My parents paid the college instead of me , fortunately around 300K CAD for a college tuition fee to grocery fees to monthly room rentals in Toronto. \n\n I am a Korean national and i see there is no benefit for me to move in to Canada as Canadian cities have extremely high housing rentals compared to major cities in the US. I do hope US govt bridges and gets the internatinoal student in Canada approval for a work visa and possibly let them move in to small cities in the US.

Canada needs to help ODSP injured workers like how come if we work hard for an employer and we get injured permanently we are doomed to life in poverty??? Its bulshit!!! So many high rises being built for the main immigrants entering Canada in the hundreds of thousands--with drug money, many without any education and the English language...bring their elderly family members who have never worked a day in Canada to pick up old age pension. I think the “no one wants to live in Canada” thing is such a stretch it could qualify as a lie. We still have a lot of people trying to immigrate here, and while I’m sure there are a lot of people trying to leave Canada, I don’t know any of them. Things aren’t great but it’s still Canada. Life is still great here compared to most of the world. We’ve been spoiled by the good times we’ve had, that’s all.

Not just immigrants. My great grandfather came here in the 1920's. I find myself working to pretty much pay high taxes and a mortgage. I don't have much left enjoying life. I got plans to leave Canada soon and finally LIVE LIFE.

We left Canada semi-permanently in 2023. It's too cold, miserable, the travel distances wear you down, the people are generally unfriendly, the government is a mess, the currency is weak and getting weaker, the hours have always been long (2 weeks vacation a year, and be surprised if you're not fired right after), low incomes comparatively, a bad and getting worse healthcare system (re: thousands line up for one doctor accepting new patients in Kingston) and high taxes. Combine this with housing that will cost more than 70% of your income, overall the quality of life is low and there is no reason to be there.

Left Canada a year ago and I now live in Eastern Europe. It was the best decision of my life. \nAlso, the people here in Eastern Europe are mostly sane, warm and helpful, unlike the passive aggressive, fake and extremely woke people in Canada.

IRCC has granted them visas: study permits, work permits, spousal permits. Once they completely stop granting these so easily, then we may talk about change. Someone or some people are profiting big time when a student comes here. They are just trying to survive, you can't blame them for that. Blame Canada's immigration policies. I did my PhD in Canada, the salary was extremely low, I could only pay for room and board. We live better because my husband came to work. I won several scholarships to improve my financial status and I had to leave 50% of my scholarship in the laboratory!!!! laboratory policy. I think it was going to be better than in Colombia but the payment was too low. I returned to Colombia and now I earn much more. PhD students should be treated as real workers. we do research on an entire country. Never think in doing a phd in Canadá
