International students are good for Canada in the long-term national benefit. There's one problem. many of these students are not genuine students but a gateway for them coming to work instead of schooling. I know many Indians came in, instead of studying, working for Uber delivery, Tim Horton etc.

Its really an immigration scam. Over priced degree mills milking foreign students so they can work and get points for later immigration. Canada gets cheap labor, more consumers and private schools make $$$. And future voters, lets not over look that.

International students 90 % only from India \nIt’s not international students \nIt’s Indian students come to Canada for PR and better life targets all jobs market and make money send to back home , how can economic growth in Canada , of course growth massive population, will be broken down the economy \nBecause that people working in Canada make money send to back home\nMaybe after 10 years that peoples control any kind of important jobs like all banks , IT system , will be too late for Canadian out of control

as an international student myself, I do believe canada NEEDS to work on in this situation, International students pay 5x the tuition and get exploited by these agents they have back home. Simply put, shut down colleges for international students and if you want to study get into a university and ACTUALLY study something rather than going to some diploma mills.

Canada is becoming a dumping ground for all people who just register for student visa and work, claim refugee status, criminals from 3 rd world countries, no check on any one, even if it is is nominal-The end result is disaster

Assuming you have gone back to what you left behind in India after exploring Canada. Best way to leave and see if another country works for you. And why leave a fast growing country that is going to grow at 6-7% min. ?

Canada is not proactively expanding our infrastructure and social services to accommodate this unnatural population growth. There needs to be a hard cap on immigration till Canada can address the current needs then start working on increasing capacity up until the point we are ready to reopen Canada to immigration.

International students ARE NOT driving up home prices or rent...that's a supply/demand issue (plus the lack of control government has on landlords and how much they can charge for a specific unit) and it's also a foreign buyer issue (yes Chinese foreign buyers, who buy homes in Canada but never move-in and use it as the home as a savings account). Not the international students problem, when the government of Canada DEMANDS THESE STUDENTS NOT WORK FOR MORE THAN 20 HOURS A WEEK and then watches them struggle to pay for rent (and therefore have to live 2 or 3 to a room)...yeah, don't blame the students. BLAME THE GOVERNMENT for bringing these students here, handicapping them by limiting their work hours (minimum wage at that) and then turning around and blaming them for why homes are ridiculously expensive and rent is unaffordable. Yeah, don't blame the government for it's inability to build homes...don't blame the government, instead, blame the minimum wage international student...it's going to be interesting if this actually brings DOWN rent prices and home costs. Which it won't, at which point, the government is going to be pointing fingers at someone else. Like they always do. LOL.

Im pro immigration but unfortunately Canada just doesn’t feel like home. \n\nIt’s hard for everything jobs, housing, the emergency room is beyond\nFull, yes these students are working towards careers , however people born / Canadian for generations barely have access for jobs themselves.

I personally know students who have been here in Canada for 3 weeks and they are already working 2 jobs and also going to the food bank for free food.

Canada wants to develop its economic by having foreign students and real Estate. They are too lazy to work hard.

I came to Canada 4 years ago as an International Student and now have been working for 2 years. We as international student spent almost all our fortune to study in Canada and work for Canadian companies after graduation. A lot of my engineering majors are also working for government project to build more houses. Therefore, if people are working together on this, Canada could even thrive more given we are the second largest country in the world.

Not only accepting too many international students but also too many people with zero ability and knowledge to communicate with others. Ton of people who came with work permits basically doing nothing. I know so many of them as soon as they got the work permits, left Canada and got back home. Our education system is not as efficient as before. Too many kids from those family with work permits are joining the schools every day so the number of kids in each class is way more than it should be.There is no idea behind bringing too many immigrants. Stop doing that. Canada is not a great country like before.

if you earn less money then you don't pay that much tax for health care. I've never paid over 15% of my income for income tax and because I earn so little I don't pay monthly health care premiums they are just free. The reason I earn so little is because I have a 3yo and no options for childcare when his dad is working so I can only work when his dad is not working. As a result I get the maximum canadian childcare benefit (CCB). Although the main reason I haven't left canada yet besides family, is the clean drinking water, relatively clean air (I live in a rural area) and low levels of environmental diseases (malaria, hep B, dengue, zika, cholera, parasites etc). I keep trying to find a country that can offer clean drinking water and clean environment with decent climate and soil for growing food, and decent health care and work opportunities. If anyone has any suggestions for countries like this to research I'd love to hear them.

Need to stop give work permit to international students it helps froud and schame of business people. Those who came in this country for study bearing all expenses during their study period. According to Canadian census those countries people are less here in Canada bring more students then less students from more people on the there hand bring more students from rich country then south Asian country.

It is actually so hard to understand for me. I don’t wanna sound rude of self agrandizing but I came to Canada as a Latin American international student, fluent in English and French, with an engineering degree and a master’s in Finance and a lot of years of experience working in Fintech and My visa application was HARD!, I had to proof everything and save a lot of money and all that.\n\nI see however, other fellow international students and wonder: “How the hell did they got here?”. Little to no English, no funds, no degrees, studying useless programs in garage colleges.

I used to teach and coordinate programs for international nurse, this is spot on - and I have always wondered about Canadian students getting into programs - we need Canadian students who are talented and want to study but cannot afford it. There is so much i could unpack. In general, most of the students are lovely and hard-working, but the intent in most cases is to get a PR status - so most of them stay. Many also are disappointed with Canada - as they may come from a place where they were in a different social class. I know many of my students now are productive members of Canadian society working in their chosen fields. I am proud of them - as the move was not easy and they left their families behind. Considering that most of the world is a collectivist culture versus our individualist culture of the West, there is much to adjust to. Good piece.

Canada is accepting to many people. We have a massive housing shortage, and when we can't house our own people, we shouldn't work on housing outsiders. It's an objective scale. We should outright stop accepting new people until our housing situation is fixed.

My question is: why is it that 98.5% of international students come from one country? I remember when I was in high school working at McDonald’s etc now Walmart, Petro Canada, Tim Horton’s, McDonald’s are only hiring international students and only from one country too ?

Canada sucks. I came here as a doctor only to find endless blocks and hoops and loops. Before settling here I was told ENDLESSLY about the paradise I was about to move to (Canadians love to present their country as such), and how a job as a doctor would be there for me since I meet the qualifications. You come here and reality hits, this is a bureaucratic nightmare of a country! The lack of Canadian experience is also an excuse for discrimination. I speak four languages, worked in different countries including Colombia, USA, France. Somebody please explain to me what is so extraordinary about Canadian experience that one cannot learn elsewhere? BTW Canadian medicine is TERRIBLE, BAD! I am leaving in June, got a pretty good job lined up back home in Colombia!

Listened to your vlog and I want to suggest few things as an immigrant myself... I am not sure of your detials but seems like your husband came back after 2 months leaving you there with family.. I have rarely seen any family settling abroad unless they have seriously burnt all there bridges back home.. if you start with a mindset that let's go and see and if doesn't work out we will come back 90% odds are you will go back.. firstly come with absolutely clear mind that no matter what happens you are not going back.. and you will make it here no matter what. The journey will become much easier and one directional.. Secondly you do not have to rely on any family abroad to move.. this is an other mistake people make.. they think they will have support but this support is actually a limiting option ... it doesn't let you get on feet quicker. Nobody can support you for long abroad and sooner than later you have to get on your feet. once you over stay your welcome you can start getting some unwelcoming vibes and then you get depressed thinking there is no one genuinely yours in this country.. you waste your initial time relying on your family.. better start without them in the first place and get going from day one.. and lastly 2 3 months is nothing to settle any where let alone in Canada.. you have to be patient, persistent and focused and after 2 years and after seeing all the calendar and religious seasons twice, you finally start to think of new place as your home.. its hard but in the end it's truly worth it and then you can never go back to India or Pakistan

Message to CBC - Please show concern about Canadians who were born, educated and worked their entire lives in Canada. They have had a lack of affordable housing for decades. Have you discussed that at length?

Meanwhile, my honours student Uni grad niece couldn't even get a spot into Teacher's college at the local institution she graduated from and worked in the research lab. This wouldv'e allowed her to remain living at home, saving thousands and thousands of dollars mind you, because there were so many international students accepted. So, she had to move several hours away (to a far better Uni imho), incur the expenses and live with strangers instead. Local kids getting treated as 2nd class to internationals, clearly. So then, the foreign student heads back home shiny new Canadian degree in hand, and who benefits? Not Canada, for damn sure. And don't get me started on how we have to relax standards in the medical profession to bring in foreign trained doctors and nurses to mitigate our own short comings in relation to capacity.

I went to live in Canada in 1997 and left in 1998. Other than a very mediocre quality of life, I found Canada dark and gray! High cost of living, low wages, high cost of education and all this to live under -14°C! I went to live in France, and Canada is not in the heels! In Paris I lived in a beautiful city, free and high quality health care, got one bachelor and three master degrees without debts, a contract of work protected with strong labor laws, 4 weeks paid holiday a year, travelled all over Europe and had a mild life canadians won't ever have!

Too many. The they find work in every area for poor wages, live under stressful conditions by their own etnic group, and eve tually find ways to apply for their family to come to Canada. Why? This is not immigration, but a form of scamming the system by a particular group.

The example used should have been somewhere like Conestoga, which has become an absolute diploma-mill, basically selling residency. The impact on local communities has been ridiculous and many of those students are competing for local working class jobs. Remove the residency ability and the number of students will collapse, that is what is needed. If the institutions can't prove that they can house the students they should not be allowed to bring them in. If some of these diploma-mills go bust, good. We should be putting a break on immigration anyway, to give Canada a break to integrate the millions and millions that have come in in the past two decades.

What is the point of not setting a cap based on nationality? Let s be honest. 90% of international students are from India. If they do not come, others will come. Money is money. 99.9% of Indians come to Canada on study permit not to study but to work full time harming other international students from other countries. They come to class for the first few weeks and once they get team mates for team work assignments, they suddenly banish and never show up again. IT IS RUDE. They never speak English. Their stardards are far below CANADIAN STANDARDS. Why keep getting them in? Again. Money is money. Just limit based on nationality on study permit and later pr as well.

Hey Tyler i love your work. I am a savagely loyal Albertan. \nAlberta is the best province. Change my mind. \nBut if Alberta starts slipping to the Left with another NDP/Socialist government, i would move to the US no question. Not just anywhere though. The 2 coasts are dumpster fires. International students are not, many of them have parents who came to Canada first , then find volunteer work jobs like nonprofits call centres to qualify for working visa, then apply PR, here is the catch, many of those actually financially stronger than local Canadian, cash buying houses, paying high fees for their kids being international students, they compete local first time homebuyers, they don’t actually need a well paying job, they came here for Canadian IDs . These immigrants wave ? isn’t the same as decades ago who fresh off the boat had to go schools or job market to survive. Don’t blame international students, their parents came ….

I'd be interested in seeing the raw statistics of mass immigration vs job scarcity and value. Living in a rural town in one of Canada's poorest provinces, it feels like businesses are relying on immigrants to work for minimum wage, which is still $15 BELOW the living wage. Since they can hire people for less, they will do so. There is also the issue of these international students relying on and clearing-out food banks. They're sold the idea that they only need $10k a year to survive in Canada, and obviously they can't, so they rely on these systems (that were already struggling as more and more people face homelessness and extreme poverty) to get by.

I think Canada needs waaay more international students for real. Maybe something could be set up that they also build into housing as well some kind of newER 2024 program that is weaved into housing to help them get place to stay and also to build for them self and after school projects or like flow and around sharing renting and working making money whole studying. Canada is definitely smart enough to realize that they can set something up for international students to make things work on all levels.

I have immigrated to Canada 38 years ago from Poland. Quality of life is horrible- work - home - watching Netflix unless you go out to eat mediocre food and be forced to pay minimum 15 % tip on already high bill. People in home country can afford to buy apartments, enjoy quality of life. Regret coming to this country.

I am Chinese ethnic was born in Höng Kong but moved to Singapore in 1984. \nAt that time I could have migrated to Canada or Australia. I am an electrical engineer with a master’s degree and have worked in the States for some time before moving to Singapore. I could have settled in the States as well if I really wanted to. But having studied and worked in the States for some time, I realised it’s not my place. Culture difference, racial discrimination, political ideology to name just a few. So I moved to Singapore which had a job for me. I have no regrets. The country has a very efficient government, housing, medical, education needs are pretty well taken care of, not perfect but good compared to many developed countries. Crime rate is among the lowest. I believe If you have the talents you can try to apply for immigration here. Also Höng Kong which has a similar standard of living is also offering good opportunities to world talents to settle over there.

I totally agree that this country will break your spine and test your ultimate willpower. Me and my wife came here 5 years back and we decided that we will shut ourselves like a tortoise. Forget about savings and forget about everything else. Only and only one goal we had in mind is that we will live in the basement and earn top dollars. Just to give you a perspective. My first pay was 19 dollar per hour and my current pay is 87 per hour. My wife started with 16.5 per hour and now earning 69 per hour. Even though our income grew substantially, we never raised our expenses. Answer to all problems in Canada is income. Now after 5 years we bought house worth of 1.4 M. We moved out of basement and felt immense pride. We paid 37% down payment and 3 banks approved our mortgages in a heartbeat. No debt at all. We paid up our car in full. Just a regular new suv nothing fancy. \nEveryone is different, we all are unique and I believe you took a right decision. Each and every word you said in the video is true. \nWe cried , we fought , we felt that our life is ruined but we both thought that ek bar to Canada ko harana hai. I'm only halfway through but feel I need to comment and well I'm not exactly a new Canadian. But I was born the but grew up in New Zealand. And well why not . I moved over there in 2014 with full rights as a citizen. My trade wasn't recognised. Canada has its own rules about everything. You need to have training to pour drinks in a bar wtf.! But yea I came wanting a better life and well thankfully I wound up in Calgary so eventually I had the money to leave. And come home where know having seen the Canadian shit show I'm killing it here. It saddens me and yes I was that asshole that got trudeau on there cos I seen one rousing speech where he invoked his dad Pierre. And I fell for it. And not to lie I look old Canadian so I fit right in English is my first language and all that. And funnily enough it was the first time in my life where I could say fucking immigrants. Canada hasn't always been this expensive, no. On a single, very average, middle-class salary, my Grandparents bought a detached home in the GTA, raised 6 kids and still managed to save around $350,000 for retirement despite the fact my Grandfather's job (as many jobs did in those days) provided him with a defined-benefit pension plan, which has been entirely stripped away from modern workers.\n\nThat was a mere 60 years ago. Canada used to be a paradise. All you needed was a willingness to work.
