Well, as a Canadian, I guess i'll pitch in.\nWould I move to the US? The short answer is no. But I will explain more in detail.\n\nFirst, I do not see any advantages to the US compared to Canada. Americams often tout their country as the beacon of freedom and the land of opportunities, but I don't feel that Canada is so different there. We're actually higher on the world freedom index, and its not like our economy was in shambles and everyone dirt poor... We pay more taxes, fine, but we also get more services in return, and that last part has the advantage to remove a big layer of worry. Like, for healthcare, I don't have to worry if i'm covered by insurance or not, or if the insurance carrier will drop me on some technicality. I'm a citizen. All the basic needs are covered; no questions asked (and the healthcare quality is not half bad. We just prioritize urgent cases over non-urgent; so if you go to the hospital for something non-urgent, you will wait, and more urgent cases will pass before you. Annoying when it happens, but I understand and agree with that in the end)\n\nSecond, I do see a lot of disadvantages. All the points raised in the video are valid, from the private-sector healthcare system, the gun control laws (or lack thereof), the social policies and legislation in some states; they don't agree with me.\n\nI think it comes down to some specific social and cultural ideas that are prevalent or at least present in a substantial manner in the american society. Bear in mind that I am generalizing here, not every american believes these points, but many do. I'm talking about ego, nationalism/patriotism, secularism etc.\nI feel that the US often has a really overinflated vision of itself. Like, the idea that America is the best. At everything. Wich is factually not true, but this idea also poisons the debate on many issues, and tends to limit social introspection that could lead to real advances.\n\nI've also noticed that the american basic school system is strongly patriotic. Everyone in the US is taught a lot about the US themselves in school, but not much about the rest of the world. Not great for open mindedness and introspection when you have little comparison points.\n\nAndlets not delve into the religious aspect. I've seen a poll somewhere where 48% of americans were AGAINST the separation of church and state. For me thats not only insane, its dangerous. It fits the individualistic mentality where people can more easily start thinking that their way is THE way. It creates a very polarized society much more prone to high volatility.\n\nSo, yeah, no, I wouldn't live in the US. I'd much rather stay in Canada where i don't have to worry if I get sick or hurt, if some agressive drunk idiot in a bar is armed, or if some fundamentalists from some religious congregation is gonna be able to try to politically force their point of view.

As (I am assuming) a straight, cis white guy, you maybe are not seeing the racism and other kinds of bigotry people experience. Also there were 51 school shootings in the US last year, dude, that's like 1 per week. Do you think they all happen in big cities? They don't. You have had 201 deaths in school shootings since Columbine in 1999. We have had 10 school shooting deaths in that same time period, and only 1 more than that in our whole history. None ever at at elementary school. You guys need serious change in your priorities and values in your country. ?

There are only two conceivable reasons for a Canadian to move to the US. \n1. is the weather. I don't think I need to explain why some of us get tired of winter for six months out of the year.\n2. is the money. If you're young, single, white, educated male, you can get some good jobs down there, but you're going to want to hold on to your Canadian citizenship for when you get sick.

Maybe Canadians are more concerned about gun violence than Tyler feels they need to be, BUT HERE IS WHY! \n\nAccording to USA today and Forbes magazine there have been more than 300 mass shootings so far this year and 200 people were shot on the 4th of July alone. These articles are dated July, 2023. A mass shooting was defined as 4 or more people killed or injured. There is a bbc article from May 2023 that states 48,830 people died of gun violence in 2021 in the US; that’s the population of a small city in Canada. Half those deaths were suicides, which occur because the guns are available. All of these articles mention the shear number of guns in the US, more guns than people, 120 guns per 100 people. So yes, I think Tyler is exhibiting his American bias and has become desensitized. His statements that it’s only in some places and to choose carefully where you live because violence isn’t every where are not borne out by the stats. These shootings happen in all corners of the country and every time they do people are shocked that it could happen in their safe little town. Think back to Columbine, Sandy Hook, Parkland, Uvalde these were not violent communities yet their schools were targeted. \n\nThe gun culture is high on the list of reasons I wouldn’t move to the US but do is politics, women’s rights, anti 2SLGBTQ legislation, health care, environmental protection laws ( or lack there of), lack of social programs, etc. Canada certainly isn’t perfect but I’ll take it warts and all over a US option. Don’t get me wrong I love to visit the US but living there is a whole different ball of wax. Thanks but no.

I suggest google’n “ school shootings, small town America”…. article after article, when you do, says why most mass school shootings tend to happen in small towns….where nobody expects that they would have happened & how all the residents in those towns are always surprised that they happened in their town. \nI say this as somebody who once loved the idea of moving to the USA. \nMy mom was a single parent and as a result I spent a ton of time as a very young kid in the late 80s throughout the mid 90s in a small town in Oregon on my aunt and uncles dairy farm with my cousins and I absolutely loved it. Truthfully, I still love small-town America and I love the vast majority of the people I have met from small-town America. There is the friendliness and community that I find very similar to prairie farming towns in Canada. \n And as a kid, I loved the focus on high school sports in the small USA town I spent time in and how it brought the community together. It was very exciting to go to my cousins football games—stuff like that was super fun as a kid.\nAs an adult, with 2 young kids of my own now? \nYes, I would be terrified to send my children to any school in the United States, especially knowing that the vast majority of my school shootings do happen in small towns, which is a type of place in the states I would personally like to go to, if I did move. \n\nAdditionally, I will be completely bankrupt at this point given my own health issues as well as my two kids health issues and I’m just in my late 30s. \nAnd I’m not talking to super crazy health issues, but health issues nonetheless. I have asthma that has gone through patches where I’ve had to be hospitalized & I was diagnosed with stage 3 malignant melanoma when I was in my late 20s and pregnant with my 2nd. My first child was born with a congenital heart disorder that was missed through the pregnancy and until she was two, and that involved many many trips to the hospital & various specialists until they figured out what was going on (one of the symptoms was her randomly stopping breathing and going blue, which was terrifying, and could’ve been for many different reasons & it took many specialists & many hospital visits to figure it all out)\nMy son was born with a multiple protein intolerance and later received an autism diagnosis. There a decent number of hospital visits and specialists for his first couple of years of life too. \n\n I have no idea if I was in the United States how I would’ve paid for any of our health issues (let alone all three of ours) for that 5 or 6 year period where we all needed various types of regular-ish medical care. \n(because we got good medical care, thankfully, none of us have really had to see doctors any more than the average person in the last few years?)\n\nMy kids are now in elementary school, and, as a Canadian, the issue of school shootings happening anywhere….., including in small towns that seem perfectly safe……as well as the cost of healthcare for stuff that is covered by our taxes here in Canada….. are the two biggest reasons that I will think fondly of my time in small-town America, but would never consider moving there

I lived in MA for 17 years. I liked it and have many friends from there. I would go back, but yes, the healthcare would stop me. Getting older, needing more medical intervention. Not having to worry about healthcare costs is easy. I also said that the US was one step away from being behind the iron curtain. There is not the same freedoms there as there is here in Canada. The media controls the nation. Too much news. Not so here.\n\nWhile in Florida recently, my friends granddaughter was in a mall hiding from an active shooter. She was calm, I was hysterical.

I am Canadian, I was born here in the 60's, I've travelled around the world, including the US but have always lived and worked in Canada. I love my country. saying that now....\nThe last 10 years for Canada has been the worst ever in history, our government has destroyed the foundation of what it means to be Canadian and has made this country look very bad on the world stage.\nEventually that will change. This currently gives reasons why a Canadian wants to move from Canada.\nYou are right about the US, there are places you can move to that offer quiet, country, safe living but like Canada, those places usually trade the good life for lack of opportunity.. the difference is most of Canada gives you the good life and opportunity in the same place. A good example, Billings Montana or Red Deer Alberta... if you compare the 2, they are close, but overall life in Red Deer would be better.\nCulture has changed thoughts too, I could never get used to seeing anyone other that law enforcement carrying a gun.. I went to a conference in the US for training in body language, influence, and persuasion. We were able to meet with the presenters in small groups to ask questions. One of the attendees asked for body language indications that someone had a concealed weapon. After the answer, I said to the person who asked the question that I was glad I didn’t need to know how to look for concealed weapons because I’m from Canada. She looked at me in shock and said I really needed to know that. I emphatically responded, “No, I don’t need to know that because I’m from Canada.” She looked at me like I was the most naive and clueless person she’d ever met and walked away. I felt sad that Americans have to be so worried about guns that she thought that was absolutely essential knowledge. Quite frankly, I don’t even know what the answer was to her question since I totally tuned out because I knew I’d never need that information!

Seriously? McDonalds and Starbucks? We don't have McDonalds and Starbucks? News to me bro! We have amusement parks too and FYI, healthcare is totally free, we don't have to pay for it, not ever, not any procedure, period. Gun violence, need I say more. I like that there is the second amendment and that you can carry firearms BUT there has t be a better way of implementing it, too much gun violence, school shootings, mass shootings, it's just too scary to live there. I go to the US and I am always shocked by how people treat the service industry, waiters, waitresses, anyone that is in a position of service are treated like CRAP (for the most part), customers don't say please or thank you, they are not polite ay all, never got that, entitled people everywhere. The attitude that America is the greatest country in the world, where do they get off? America is the only free country? I think not. Abortion issue, the new bullcrap happening with TRANS and LGTBQXYZ and I have to play along with their mental disorders and fantasies, no thank you. I do not want to walk down the street in fear of my life, why in GOD's name would I want to live in a country that is the equivalent of a school bully.

Over the years I've been to the US many times, most recently in 2014. I can tell you with 100% certainty that with the way things are now, I have no plans whatsoever to return. There are so many systemic issues, including gun ownership/violence being a self-fulfilling prophecy (everyone has guns, so I need a gun to protect myself, which means more guns in society, which means more people thinking they need guns to protect themselves, which means more guns), and that they've somehow allowed half the population's human rights to be violated (and fail to see that it's just the beginning of a slide down a very slippery slope). They tout that they have so much freedom, claim they have more freedom than anyone else in the world, but their freedoms are being taken away left and right from their federal government, all the way down to individuals who think that their personal rights and freedoms are paramount, even to the point of impinging on others' personal rights and freedoms. Add to that the obvious health care issues, the food quality, the environmental issues etc... No thanks.

Your suggestion that potential permanent Snow Birds just need to do their homework to select a community suited to their personal philosophy is a good one, as long as the Cdn heading south has the most marketable skills on the planet. In the current economic climate, you look for work, then relocate when you find a job that ticks enough boxes. If you are the breadwinners for a young family there are a LOT of boxes to consider. Even if you are an actual Snow Bird (retiree) you often come home when you health starts to decline. The US has lots of touristy things I might enjoy visiting, but I watch enough US news to know that most of what I do know comes from movies & TV, which has nothing to do with real life.

Im from a small town in Northern Ontario. It terrifies me, the amount of random mass killings, serial killers etc. Also I have A LOT of health issues, it would bankrupt us. Tyler needs to visit Canada, to fully grasp what Canada is and how we are as a people. The big cities seem to be having more gun violence which shocks most of us.

Seriously we have a hard time understanding the American view point when it comes to guns. No offence but with the number of school shootings per year in the US and the deep seeded need to be able to own a gun , it appears that your country values gun ownership over child safety . Which is just mind blowing. Don’t get me wrong we have school shooting too, And other types of violence in schools, nowhere near what is happening south of our border . But , from our perspective the numbers speak for themselves. Just look how many have happened so far in 2023. ✌️? * just Google “ School shootings 2023 by country” . I like the US weather and being into old cars I love the rust free old cars. I have driven across the US twice and I really like the American people. I don't think guns are needed in a modern society.

I live 20 minutes from the US border, I'm single and doing the online dating thing. I Get lots of people who live in the states because I live so close to the border, but I immediately reject them. That's how much I don't want to even consider involving myself with the US.\n\nAlso, I think you need to do a little bit of research about your own company because your statement that the vast majority of people have health insurance through work is completely wrong. It's less than 50%. I'm actually planning to move to the US in a couple years. Main reason is to escape the weather. Also, the mac&cheese in the US is 100 times better.... can't really find any other advantages.\nI haven't picked a city yet but I'm leaning towards Nashville or a town close by in Tenessee; not too hot in summer, no snow almost ever, Nashville has an NHL team, the people in Nashville are great and the roads aren't falling appart.\n\nI'll just need to find a way to Iimport Poutine and i'll be golden.

No they want to come here spend our hard earned tax dollars and send our money back to their country and build houses and we as Americans can't go in their country and take over they'll kill our ass and put us in the garbage . You complain about universal Health care, try living in the US with no insurance, my newborn nephew was diagnosed with cancer in the US and for 5 months of therapy parents got a bill of $400,000, they have to pay $5,000 monthly installments for the rest of their lifes pretty much. In Canada, my husband goes every three month with three different specialists, have had several surgeries in the last 10 years, didn't have work insurance and you know how much we paid? $3 per hour for the parking, we, the rest of the family, have complete annual checkups and specialists, complex surgerires when needed and pay $0

First I feel for these people. They want to live in the greatest country in the world. Because of the current president we are in a bad situation where he has made it hard for the citizens that where born here to make a living let alone any new immigrants.\nOur military needs to protect our borders as they do in other countries and any illegal immigrants needs to be deported back to their country and do it the right way it’s an act of terrorism to invade our country the economic strain that it puts on the US is enormous like a bleeding artery that you can’t get tied off. Instead of trying to change our country and ruin it they should put that effort into fixing their own. We need to fix our country first. It would take no less than 5 years of no entry to fix ours at the rate they have been pouring in our own infrastructure can’t handle the influx of people. I see all these comments about we need to fix America or we need to fix our country first or Americans can't find housing Y'all do realize that the only problem is that the rich are just abusing us. There is no way to become that wealthy without screwing someone else over. Listen... I'm all for helping out fellow human beings but it seems this person was blocking her way which you can see, and she explains that this isn't the first time he's done that! I'm from Brazil and my country has gone to fuck. I moved to the US in 2015 and was one of the few lucky ones to come in and stay legally. I work hard, I see development, infrastructure, support my community and even help those I can. But the biggest thing is that if I one day see people try to break into my house, I don't care what the story is, my family will be protected, and the other side will come back to his family in a coffin, play and simple.

I received your response and I wholeheartedly agree! \n\nI’ll go just a little further and suggest Canadaians & American cans both read, “The Merger of The Crntury”, by Diana’s Françis. Canadians are far more critical of America than Americans are of Canada but that doesn’t mean We think Canada is better. Personally, I see far more benefits in the two Nations merging on 5 levels that can only serve us best. In my opinion, having lived in both Countries……Canadians need to get off their ‘high-horse’ and Americans need to learn more about our attic.

Canada has many regional differences, so it can depend on where you move in Canada. BC and Alberta are quite different while Western Canada is different from Ontario and Quebec, as well as the Atlantic provinces. It really depends on what you need, are looking for, want, and more.\nWhen it comes to Canadian multiculturalism, that evolved out of Canada having to balance both English and French languages and cultures—which is something countries like Australia or the US haven't had to deal with—as well as Indigenous people and immigrant cultures.

Why can’t they apply for the visas then apply for citizenship and take classes and the test like everyone immigrating to the US has to do? It’s really sad to see this happening. It’s not just the USA it’s all countries. You have to have visas if your not on vacation and sometimes if you are on vacation. Then to stay longer the visa has to be redone for a longer time. But they have to apply for citizenship and study and pass the tests. I have several friends that did it the correct way. I just want everyone to have a chance and do it right as well. We need them and entering illegally just isn’t okay.

We then value the warmth and social contacts we cherish in India, the independence we get doing our work without being dependent on the children to take us, Even the lady guest expressed many views that are so correct. Okay since nobody is going to say it, the US NEEDS to take over the Mexican government immediately. If people are escaping your country in groups like this, walking weeks through rivers and deserts with their kids…. The government is not doing its jobs.

Runaway INFLATION and ASSET Bubbles which are the direct results of BoC's mismanagement of monetary policies are the DIRECT THREAT to Canada's Security, Sovereignty, and Independence. \nThe rates must go WAY HIGHER, to fight high inflation from its core, exactly what Paul Volker, Fed/Res chairman did in the US back in the 1980s. \nWe need DEFLATION in this country and not inflation to bring consumer prices down from high real estate prices to food, energy/utilities, and taxes. \n \nAssesst Bubbles which were created by the Bank of Canada must be DEFLATED, if NOT the cost of living will NEVER GO DOWN and it would lead to SERIOUS and DEVASTATING Social, Economic & Political Consequences in Canada for years to come which subsequently would lead to Mass Protests, Riots, Mutiny, Social & Labour Strikes/Unrest, Crimes, Violent Crimes, Organized Crimes, Drugs, Unemployment, Homelessness, Tent cities, Inequality, and Disparity.

Education, infrastructure, investment, they do none of it they do not participate in our democracy they are all participating in socialism for the rich and mass greed. We can't afford a roof over our heads. We can't afford healthcare. We can't afford school. The rich are taking all of our money and lining their pockets, the corporstions pockets, the military complex, the police depts. Republicans and corporate dems have been rerouting our tax money away from public education and towards private charter rich people schools for the last 30 years. Our country is in trouble. Rich people are playing monopoly ruining our economy and our society.

I think your video is well done. I used to love visiting the US especially the west and have fond memories of our travels .Now we don't travel to the US because of the gun violence and so many guns. Most Canadians don't want guns and think gun control should be very strict. I am very content with the way things are in Canada. We have high taxes but we have so many benefits, like maternity leave of 12 months or more. We have free healthcare with no premiums to pay. We have at least 2 government pensions , one we help contribute to and one is totally government funded plus a guarantee supplement if needed . Most people also have a company or union \npension . Most people retire between 60 to 65 years , but its certainly not compulsory. Canada is hoping to have a 4 day work week soon. Our federal government is generous helping with supplements for food etc. We welcome newcomers and we have a very diverse population. I have traveled to different parts of the world and I am very content here.

Canada can't do better because we are a colony of the US and we are never going to do better than the master. If the US keeps on declining, we are only going to decline farter. Unfortunately, we are stuck with the neighbor we have and we are not strong enough to force the necessary changes we need.

Houses are similar to Cuba...but some do not have window glass...they do not need it, it is warm. :) Really, when you see Cuba and a lot of places in the US, you could never say that salaries are so different. :)

I am so sick and tired of seeing this all the time. Look at all of our homeless all the veterans that fought for us to have our freedom that we hold so dear, What about those people ?? Some of them are on the streets and are homeless!! We’re not even barely helping our own people but yet we’re supposed to help all these immigrants that are coming over illegally and forcefully? It’s absolutely disgusting. We need to help our own people and fortify our own country and nation and leave everyone else alone.

Take a gander at any large, medium, and even a few small cities.\n\nHave you ever heard of Detroit (once proud home of my beloved Motown music), Baltimore (complete devastation), or Chicago (my home town—don’t make me cry)?\n\nThe entire homeless situation started when mental hospitals were snake pits and certain factions demanded that people be released.\n\nSure, it sounds humanitarian but they didn't bother to consider what would happen to mentally ill patients suddenly left to their own devices on the streets.\n\nThe do gooders actually were foolish enough to believe that the seriously ill patients (schizophrenic, bipolar, borderline, and plenty of others) would take their meds on their own. It doesn't work that way for patients who are not in contact with reality.\n\nNow we add extreme drugs (crack, meth, heroine, ketamine, whatever they hand out at parties, etc) and severe cases of PTSD/PTSS. It's obscene that we have veterans on the streets.\n\nHeath care--?. Pre Obamacare it wasn’t terrible but medicine had become a CYA project. We are so litigious (side eye to John Edwards ) that doctors practice defensive medicine and carry high limit malpractice insurance (guess who pays for that?). Every decision is driven by avoiding lawsuits, not proper patient care.\n\nPost Obamacare, US health care is an unmitigated disaster at every level. We’re short on doctors, too. Many quit and students are losing interest—medicine won’t pay enough anymore to justify $500K in loans.\n\nWe could repeal every bit of Obamacare tomorrow and still not be able to fix it. Nor can we claim to have eliminated racism. That takes time; it cannot be done by force.\n\nOur economy went from smokin hot to dumpster fire in a short span of time. Pre election, head hunters were shaking the trees to find job candidates.\n\nOur unemployment is up as are our taxes with the stomping out of the tax cuts. \n\nDespite the endless sloganeering about how the Trump tax cuts only benefited “rich” people, it’s quite the opposite.\n\nHigh earners lost their pet deductions and lower income taxpayers were quite pleasantly surprised when they did their returns. The cuts were targeted to preserve wealth for the middle and lower classes.\n\nI could go on for another 100 pages but you get the idea and I get crabby writing for free.\n\nI will leave you with the caution that it’s best if you doubt and question any data and any stats coming from our government. Those are seldom legit. If the data comes from a study, always look to see who paid for it. And how large the sample size was; how were the participants selected?
