It is sad but this is exactly what Trump is wanting. He is creating chaos and attacking our friends so he can create an emergency and declare martial law. In effect Trump is becoming a dictator who aligns with Russia and will be Putin's puppet. Great speech from PM Trudeau. I support Canada and all actions they take against Trump, regardless of how that will hurt us. This is ALL Trump's fault.

I never thought that in my lifetime I would see, as I do now, the once might USA become a vassal state of Russia. How the mighty have fallen! What makes it worse is that the (new) US leader is in no way responsible to the US electorate and is a War Criminal as recognised by the International Criminal Court. The reason for this 'trade war' is not about 'trade'. It's about 'creating chaos' so that president Trump is the 'centre' of world attention. Presidents and Prime Ministers come and go. Once their 'term is over' they simply 'walk away'. World leaders need to be men or women of integrity and honesty who 'do the right thing'. With 'great power' comes 'great responsibility'. You only 'give responsibility' to someone who has the wisdom and expertise and understanding in order to both 'hold' and 'govern' wisely and without fear or favor. Maybe its time for others in positions of authority in other institutions to step in and 'take control'. You would never let a child drive a super car on the highway so how much 'damage' has to happen before a world leader is not 'held to account' and his 'hands removed' from the steering wheel before there is a motor accident so large that the freeway is rendered unless and has to be totally shut down your. You cannot have total power in the hands of individuals who apparently do not possess the necessary skills knowledge and experience and wisdom that is required to fulfil the role they were elected to fulfil. A person with the mind and mentality of a child apparently is not a fit person to be running the economy of any nation. May Canada ?? remember its roots and may we all be thankful for true and honest leaders who have integrity and do and say the right thing. Thank you Mr Prime minister. Reading as much as I could of the comments below, it is with great respect that we as human can still care for one another even when we are from different countries, continents, backgrounds an so one. Canada and Mexico are not responsible for the people in the US who chose to use drugs. As a German - apart from the content which is no less than justified - just technically comparing Trudeau´s speech with Donald Trump´s verbal outcome - what an incredible difference in niveau & tone. What I've heard from some of my friends is that they don't care if democracy is gone as long as their taxes go down. They want a lower income tax bracket. They're very single minded about issues. We'll see how we fair once you have to pay more at the pump, when the price of electronics go up, when produce and beef, pork, and chicken become unaffordable. Yes, the middle and upper middle class probably don't care, but the lower classes and the already poor are not going to be happy. Once people are hungry, then you'll see people on the street. As a Canadian, the main problem is attitude. It infects everything here, and that attitude has played into a self-fulfilling prophecy. Although we are going to see many hardships, it's hard to see how we don't deserve what we get at this point. We have been so reckless with our wealth, we take everything for granted, we have no ambitions.

All joking aside, Canada has been able to form a symbiotic relationship of mutual benefit with the United States since even before NAFTA 1. But.......... right now it is almost like a 51st state and I do not mean that in a joking way. US states are always competing with each other, but what prevents things like, oh say the American Civil war from happening is the Federal apparatus keeps them in line for the good of the empire as a whole. \n\n If Canada is like a 51st state, then it is competing with the other 50 states in a way that all 50 of them are going to get upset about. So either the states complain, or you treat Canada as an economic competitor. Mexico being behind the United States and Canada is what makes it a good candidate for a symbiotic relationship. For all its problems, Mexico has a Christian population (with some indigenous traits) that goes well with America. Their nations different economic status means we can support them and they can support us doing different things for countries of different development stages.\n\nCanada being so similar to the United States will want that as well and will never outbid the United States. Again this is seen as a hostile economic competitor. \n\nIts not Canada or Americas fault. After 2007 and the lies about fanny and Freddie, leman bros, mortgage backed security's, and a cash shortage that was not real. How was it real if the offshore exchanges did nothing? 2007 was not financial in origin it was our global monetary system seizing up. To say Wall Street greed and MBSs did it would be like saying a single drop of cement turned the ocean to cement.\n\nBut something did. Something turned the market from liquid to concrete, it happened in France decades before......\nFinancially packaged items could no longer be priced or traded.

If you are in America and you are a citizen enjoying all that America has to offer and you hate our federal immigration law and you hate police doing their jobs and you hate whatever wrong America has done in the past, I challenge you to leave and go find that perfect county that can offer you all that America can and will live up to your ideals of perfection not just now but through everything they have done in the past.
