Problem with Canada is colleges and universities are not funded like US. For Engineering and STEM, US government and private companies like Intel/Microsoft/Qualcomm and many more spends million on research projects, and although US does rely on international students to fund students its not desperate like Canada. Besides, US has many college towns, no housing crisis like Canada and has robust economy. I studied in US free of cost with monthly stipend, fully funded by one such research grant. \nStudents should also realize sooner or later, especially in tech, that countries like Canada, NZ, Australia and UK are no. match for the United States. But then Indian students know in US they would never get green card. Canada/Australia/NZ were built like colonies, they don't have infrastructure- cities, roads, houses, airports, hospitals or even good colleges for such heavy immigration. They can take only limited immigrants in small busts.

I’m qualified Eastern European that was invited for a job in Switzerland. The high cost of living matches the high quality of life, which makes it worthwhile. From what I hear - it’s not exactly the same in Canada. It used to be considered a very desirable destination about a decade ago. \n\nIt’s sad to see Canada going in that direction. We are Christian. We lived in the Chicago area which deteriorated tremendously in crimes, respect for others, morals, and people's tolerance for others. The only thing that kept going up in Illinois is their taxes. The 'ruling party' leaves normal people speechless-- in that criminals crimes and behaviors are excused! \nSo we moved to Florida which has a majority of conservative people. We found our town there by first searching for a Church which matches our beliefs, whose worship style and music speaks to our spirit, which offers Bible study groups and has a blessed Pastor.\nFind a house was simple and our neighbors are wonderful!\nAmen and Amen!\nAnd may your relocation go smoothly as well!

Failing , that’s the right word. Canada keeps taking new immigrants ( mostly undocumented & refugees) over staying tourists. Not deporting. Lack of affordable housing/ apartments. Cost of living is too high & taxes. Minimum wage don’t match reality. Highly educated or degree holders are great & still don’t appreciate how lucky they are. No matter how successful & achieved a good job professionally when you retire, they put you back below poverty as senior. Max government pension is about $1,600 . How can you afford decently & independently to live alone. Not enough to rent a bachelor apartment. Government housing nowadays gives priorities to new / refugees / non documented immigrants than real average Canadian citizen who works hard for years. Long waiting lists for affordable housing Thank God & to myself alone , I started early & fought for my well deserved affordable housing after I retired otherwise, no way I cannot live decently as a senior like others who didn’t contribute much during their early years to the government. Give priority to our own Canadian citizen regardless of their ethnicity before giving to new undocumented immigrants. \n?❤️??

Sadly city is declining. This is mainly due though to the poor federal government that wants to destroy Canadian society in its quest to stay in power. My family moved 22 years ago from Mumbai to Toronto…while the struggles said on your channel are real, there are also perks which I feel like you didn’t get to experience. If people have good jobs, stable family life then DON’T move…culture shock is huge that people moving from India don’t consider, just by wearing and eating western food doesn’t make you western! \nThere are sacrifices to be expected which you don’t realized as your great grandparents or grandparents might have made when they started out! \nMoving to another country is never easy, unless you’re loaded with $$$. People in India are lazy as they have people working for them and don’t realize how difficult it is living outside of that lifestyle (not everyone in India can afford housekeepers, cleaners). Being independent and doing things on your own has its own positive (just need to figure it out). \n\nI have worked in healthcare for 16 years and let me tell you…social system works better as everyone gets the health service without being judged about $$. Healthcare is based on priority around the world but people don’t understand this as they feel like their problem should be attended first no matter what! \nNot all drugs are legal in Canada, marijuana is legal though with acceptable limits…you probably were misinformed about drugs! Teach your kids about right /wrong when it comes to drugs, smoking, alcohol and that’s the best you can do! I know people who live in India and do all that which you mentioned you were worried about for your kids. \n\nWhat you experienced was a classic case of culture shock and your expectations didn’t match the reality! Moving away from family, changing lifestyle and being responsible adult (doing things on your own rather than relying on workers) is difficult but doesn’t make the country bad that have you an opportunity to settle! Don’t take things for granted even while you live in India…appreciate the effort that goes into everything- keeping roads clean, people working hard, etc. \n\nBest advice I can give to those considering moving to any foreign country is: Keep an open mind, be ready to work hard and visit the country you want to move to before you make the grave decision of uprooting everything! Things usually turn around and get better after 5 years mark- focus on upgrading your education if you have a basic degree from India (even you know how competitive things are in India, so how can western world not be!)\n\nBeing vegetarian- things are tough when it comes to food but living in Toronto has never been an issue. Even people living in India avoid outside food due to hygiene reason which is not a problem in Canada as food inspection is pretty strict (having worked with ministry of health). \nCities like Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, etc has variety of food options (including veg)…just have to be really open to trying other cultural food (Asian, Mediterranean, Italian,Mexican, etc). My parents are strict vegetarians and have never truly struggled when they are out. \n\nCost of living is definitely higher as the standard living is higher compared to India. Education (until grade 12) and healthcare are free (in reality, you pay tax for it), you get pension when you retire (based on your contributions and type of jobs you had)…you failed to navigate the system and I will say having family around is why you didn’t take opportunity to explore and learn on your own. \n\nPlease don’t come to Canada and make life difficult for other Indians who choose to willingly accept the culture and lifestyle here after going through this hardship- cost of living and housing has gone up dramatically in major cities because of immigration influx! If you’re serious about moving and putting up, only then move! Otherwise all the best for your future endeavours!

Good solid takes on life in Canada as it stands in the larger cities. My family immigrated in the late 80s when I was a young child to YYZ and the housing prices and quality of living was really solid back then. We moved to YVR in the late 90s and prices seemed to be pretty stable as well. Think things started to change shortly after my undergrad years in the mid 2000s. Unfortunately, the government wanted to increase immigration which is great, but forgot to build out the transportation infrastructure and develop the health care system properly. Foreign credential recognition is really the biggest bottleneck for newcomers. Newcomer employment expectations and what is available to them is not really matching up, I know this first hand as I've worked in the employment enabling sector. Weather as you mentioned is subjective, I prefer the cold, clean crisp air here in Canada, I don't do well in the hot humid polluted weather in most East and Southeast Asian countries. Crime has definitely been on the rise as many people around me have had personal experiences with this topic. Finally housing, to live comfortably in YVR a family income of 150K is probably bare minimum these days.

The problem is very serious, on the one hand they let in people who are not contributing and giving added value to the country, quite the opposite, and on the other hand Canada has fallen far behind countries like Germany, France, Spain or the US , When bringing qualified people for specific fields, what is the difference, two things first, the ridiculous Canadian experience, is nonsense, the other even more ridiculous, the paths for recognition of all types of credentials do not even match the needs of the country and less than when those laws were created, they are completely out of reality, the paths were created by a person without the slightest vision, the aforementioned countries never ask for experience and the path to recognize credentials is easy, above all fast and practical, that is delaying Canada!! and it is leaving it very far from what it was, with so many good professionals who do not work in their area thanks to the terrible policies. \nThe result, true professionals go where it suits them best.

When you think about why a country would keep its doors open to immigration, you can kind of picture the life as an immigrant in that country. Though Canada is not a coutry that's been around for a year or two, population still at only around 38 million, they still need a lot of labor force and tax payers to further develop as a country and maintain the current level of welfare I assume. As everything is give and take in life, what you look for in immigration is well matched with what you can offer as an immigrant, everything works out fine. If you want leisure and take advantage of their civilization only, however, you either need to have enough wealth to cover or contributed to the society so much that you deserve a life of those that have already contributed building that country to the level that it is at. I think that only makes sense.

Canada has become “Land of Hardship “ . Employment is hard to find to match your qualifications. There is no job security. You could be fired without proper explanation. Discrimination is always there though not openly. Specially in higher positions. Houses have become unaffordable. Food costs are rising every day. Waiting times in hospitals emergency is too long and getting worse. For surgery you have to wait months. My brother died by falling from stairs in his house while waiting for knee replacement surgery. Things are not getting better at any time. The truth is, it's too expensive to do business in Canada and we're not making use of the incredible talent we have here (largely due to the government). As mentioned in the video, we need high capital investments to get businesses up and running. We have so many investment firms like Canada Pension Plan, Ontario Teacher's Pension that have billions but they're choosing to invest in businesses abroad because government regulations are not supportive - that's why so many move to the states. As long as the government continues to promote unsustainable population growth rates, the highest in the G7 at this point, the quality of life in our major cities is only going to get worse. They need to slow the population growth rate to one that matches the ability to look after the citizens of the country. Right now, it is completely unmanageable.

Our current crises here in Canada are largely due to recent, unreasonable immigration targets. I'm not anti-immigration - we need immigration - but some questions need to be asked. 1. Are newcomers actually being matched to the areas in which we have labour shortages? The short answer is NO. 2. Would it not be more sensible to increase immigration in ratio to our ability to build new housing? Instead of the total disconnect we have now. Especially if many of the newcomers aren't actually being employed in construction industries? 3. We've had labour shortages and housing bubble issues for over a decade at least; how did the labour shortage crisis and housing crisis suddenly get so bad? Short answer: they didn't. Unreasonable immigration took a shaky situation and pushed it over into crisis almost overnight. 4. Most of our universities and colleges are now relying on international student fees to meet their budgets. Most of them are now operating as businesses, including property developers, instead of educational institutions. (I'm a university prof - 20+ years teaching - I can't believe the changes I've seen in our postsecondary system .) Who is tracking the number of international students who are here 4 plus years and apply for PR after graduation? What is happening with the manipulation of statistics re: international students and/vs immigration? There is a significant statistical overlap that is not being disclosed to the Canadian public. Hello brothers and sisters I’m seeing a problem here. The interest rate in the late 1970s and early 1980s interest rate was 12-18%. People\nComing now are in MUCH better financial condition then people who came then with nothing. The difference is two main things: many new immigrants don’t have the same drive and motivation that previous immigrants in terms of sacrifices such as not driving a mustang, but they also didn’t just settle for labour jobs, they used their brains and began business along side labour. Second thing is, the immigrant wants to see the result before putting in the work. If after getting out of the horrible conditions of India and coming to Canada, a country loaded with opportunities, you still have difficulties then you need to change your expectations and work ethic to match, if they don’t then don’t complain. Cost of living is not the issue, it is the false expectation that they give themselves. To be quite honest with you it takes most immigrants one generation not 5-10 years, so either start working smarter or wait to have this reflection of what Canada is like until you have lived here for 50 years.

My husband, an Australian citizen, and Candian PR is preparing to apply for Canadian citizenship, whereas I hold Canadian citizenship. Having spent four years in Canada, my husband and I both agree, based on his experiences here and my observations while visiting Australia, that the quality of life in Canada cannot match that of Australia. Australia offers superior work-life balance and higher pay grades. Our intention is to eventually return to Australia for the better opportunities it provides. I am thankful that our future children can have dual citizenship benefits.

Lots of assumptions baked in here that are honestly quite offensive or completely inaccurate. This is a great example of data not matching reality. Like sure, those may be the reported numbers, but it simply doesn’t pass the smell test. I lived in Canada from 1983 to 2016 after I left the US Air Force in '83. I was born in the SF Bay area, and grew up there in the Hippie peace love/Viet Nam era in the 60's and 70's. I now live in Seattle. As we have travelled to San Fran, New Orleans, Nashville, Miami, Vancouver (Canada) and New York in the last 6 months, I kinda have a pretty good idea how it was on both sides of the border way back then, as well as right now. We have 2 rental homes, and I STILL have to work until I'm 70 to retire without worrying about losing it all because of the the high cost of health care. Your observation of race/political/religion relations are naive at best, you need to travel the country first hand to see it. Canada has it's far share of right wing crazies as well. They're mostly not armed, and most fights are 5 minute shouting matches. I know this because I work on construction sites. Canada doesn't have commercials for pharma or ambulance chasers. Because big pharma is kept in check, and with a population slightly smaller than California, frivolous lawsuits would clog the courts. If the PM killed some one on the corner of Yonge and Bloor in Toronto, he'd go to jail. You can get an abortion in Canada. There's a fraction of the Fentanyl crisis happening in Canada, and they have waaayy less homeless in the street. Canada has 2 weeks paid vacation AND paid holidays. The tax rate is higher in Canada, but many of the benefits make up the difference. It's cheaper to buy a house in Seattle than Vancouver. You can get a 30 year mortgage in Washington as well, instead of 5 or 10 years. Good and services tend to be cheaper and more plentiful Stateside. Mail service runs on weekends, it hasn't done that in Canada since the 80's. As it stands, I'm in Seattle right now because it isn't the typical US city by far. But I'm thinking when it comes to retiring, I'm putting Canada on the list. Being a dual citizen also makes me eligible for the other Commonwealth (universal health care) countries like Australia.

Maternity leaves etc... so many quality of life things to consider. I look at the housing prices and really wish I could get over the other things. But as a Medical Laboratory Technologist, I could never work in your fee for service word.
