As an American I want to apologize and encourage Canada to stay strong. Remember there are millions of us here in America that do not want this either and want nothing more than for this to all be a bad dream.

As a Canadian my personal politics may not always be in line with other citizens of the world, however I can respectfully agree to disagree, allowing more dialogue and discussion to continue in order to reach an agreeable compromise to find the best winning formula for all concerned. \nI have watched and listened to many American politicians from John F Kennedy to Joe Bidden, to leaders like Marin Luther King, Malcolm X, Bernie Saunders, all have something in common, respect, decorum, world knowledge, integrity, truth, honesty, honour, and heart. \nStrength is when you are able to reach out to lift someone up not to knock them down. Even the greatest professional boxers know the difference of being humble and kind when there advisory is in trouble. \nFor the first time in the history of your country you have a bully, narcissist and pathological liar, who is vulgar and unpolished as a man, father and as the President of your nation.\nI have seen our own Canadian leaders, make mistakes, stumble and fail, however they displayed grace and admitted to their shortcomings.\nI have never seen a world leader be obsessed with things such as plastic straws, pennies, flushing toilets, Hannibal Lecter, Arnold Palmer's manhood, a leader who's completely obsessed with selling souvenir and bubbles while his citizens are homeless, hungry, jobless, with runaway inflation so that something as simple as a dozen eggs are now a luxury item. \n\nYou have a president who spends millions of dollars so that he can play golf at one of his own properties, meanwhile his country is neglected. \nA brief look at his past record the pandemic under his watchful eye would have you drink bleach as a cure as many died and billionaires increased their combined wealth by trillions of dollars while the middle class and poor suffered. \nThe opioid crisis was settled under his watch which let Purdue Pharma and the Sackler family avoid jail time for committing the death and destruction of millions of lives in America. Yet Donald Trump is obsessed with the drug cartels in other countries yet he overlooks those terrorist in his own country. Is it because they are billionaires and potential cronies of his?\nRather than be completely obsessed with tariffs and creating the next disaster with his Trump Gaza Holocaust Resort, Your leader could be looking at fixing the country's infrastructure of roads, brides, tunnels, ensuring a healthy supply of drinking water, rail, housing for the homeless, affordable health care, affordable education, etc.\n\nDonald Trump is surrounded by his clowns is not just making a mockery of your country but is leading you into a very dark hole. \nThe shame and humiliation that Donald Trump has brought to your country since his inauguration will take years to correct if he is stopped now. If you the American people wait four years, WW Three will be here and it will take centuries to recover. \nTHE FUTURE IS NOW, NOT IN FOUR YEARS. AS AMERICANS YOU MUST BE WILLING TO ENSURE A TOMORROW FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS.... UNDER THE CURRENT REGIME YOU ARE HEADED TO A DEAD END.

This is exactly what Trump wants to destroy America!!!! to bring on techtocracy or maybe just to make his allies in Russia happy.. It's either that or he is the dumbest president in American history... I've never understood why anybody thought that he gave a damn about anybody but himself or was capable of doing anything that would benefit the American people. But here we are.. there was voter suppression at the very least. It's hard to know what to believe about all that. But I do know many people regardless voted for him. 30% did not vote. Which I do understand. As there is a genocide happening.. but at this point, I have to believe that even amongst the majority of his supporters he is not supported by the majority, major majority of the United States. The republican Congress has shown their true colors of being anti-constitutional . But they are redeemable. Do the right thing if you are in government if you have any power at all, stand up. And for the rest of us, Americans including the ones that voted for Trump let your voices be heard. Before we become something similar to Russia. And I go to prison for this comment.

There's many reasons not to like Trudeau up here in Canada, many of which are the reason he'll (rightfully) no longer be the PM next week. As a conservative I hated him for SNC-Lavalin (among other scandals), and the fact that his inexperience with the economy Harper left him is probably part of why this trade war is going to hurt more than it could have, and the fact that he's often been kind of a phony more concerned with looking and sounding good for the press cameras. Not this time. Nothing phony here; I've got to give credit to him for capturing the national mood pretty much perfectly with this speech. Good on him. \n\nAnd congratulations as well to Donald for pretty much handing the Liberals their best shot at a fourth term, too. What an absolute idiot. Normally I'd turn my nose up at having to vote Liberal, but I am so, so sick of the brand of empty populism Trump stands for that it looks like that's what I'm gonna be doing come election time.

Trump is a total disaster for all Americans except the $Billionaires. But it wasn't the $Billionaires who voted Trump into office, it was the millions of MAGA Morons, the very people who are now losing their jobs in thousands as Musk takes an axe to everything. Tariffs on America's main trading partners means that the American consumers, many of them MAGA Morons, are going to be hit a lot harder in the pocket as prices on their goods rocket. I only feel sorry for the Americans, who saw this coming and voted against Trump. For all the MAGA Morons, don't cry help, you brought this on yourself !!! Here in the UK we support Canada 100% !!!

I would like to thank all the kind words from all over the world I see here. We as Canadians really appreciate it. It's going to be a tough time ahead for this country, but if no one else will stand up to Trump, we will.

Instead of writing and reacting here, act in your country, take maga down, do your duty as an USA citizen. The damage Trump is inflicting to the free world, the hatred he is creating towards your country, will be devastating, it will end USA as a leading world power.

From Canada: Sorry but we did this to ourselves by not growing our economy as we could have done, by not expanding energy and trade, by being led by a non-leader who panders only to the east and disrespects the west, who spends money like it’s on fire. Trudeau could learn so much from Sen Robert Kennedy about spending money that isn’t his to spend… If eastern Canada would respect the wealth we have in the country, in the ground, we would not be in this position. Canada could be one of the wealthiest countries in the world and Canadians could have a very high standard of living. Instead we are stagnant and woke, dying from terrible drug policies and woke law, and bursting with a terrible “look at me, look at how good I am” immigration policy. We have no investment or tourism in BC, no foreign buyers, almost no airbnb, no fruit, soon to be no wine, but at least we have free drugs and 2000 genders, right Provincial NPD? That will help the bank account. And we have no respect for Alberta’s riches that benefit EVERYONE. All the power is centralized in Quebec, with the Bloc not even a federal GD party but somehow allowed to be a federal party, and Ontario and Atlantic Canada just loving a false sense of moral and intellectual superiority, and don’t forget transfer payments. And we have got ourselves into this Liberal government purgatory (thank God the Federal NPD have been decimated over it…at least there is some justice), so that we write cheques to make us feel good and look good despite that we can’t afford it. And we prevent growth and trade to make ourselves feel good and look good even though we can’t afford it. And here we are now, broke a** with no prospects and no savings. Trudeau is either a liar or he doesn’t have a clue about what is going on in Canada.\nThe borders we share with the United States are far from the fortress of security that he purports them to be. If they were indeed as impenetrable as he asserts, we would not be witnessing a continuous influx of illegal firearms—responsible for a staggering 99.9% of gun-related crimes here in Canada—crossing over from our southern neighbor. Yet, these illicit weapons are making their way into our communities, alongside a troubling wave of unauthorized entries into our country.

While I don’t agree with Trumps tariffs, I understand why he’s doing them. As a Canadian citizen, please don’t glamorize Trudeau- hes a spoiled rotten brat of a former PM. Nothing more. You’ve not lived the last 10 years under his totalitarian govt, suspending the rights of Canadians at will, insulting and dividing our country at will, taking away legal firearms owners rights rights at will (people who had to pass safety courses and are more vetted than RCMP officers). \n\nHe’s proven to be more fake than a $3 dollar bill. All the liberal & ndp’s in Canada are. He has the worst record in Canadian history as a PM, including the highest taxes, home prices, massive, unsustainable immigration, and the worst healthcare crisis in Canada’s socialized medical system since its inception. \n\nHe’s accumulated more debt than all previous PM’s COMBINED (as per the PBO). \n\nThen he comes on here after he resigned on Jan.6th - yes after cratering Canada’s economy methodically for the last 10 yrs - to inflame the POTUS and who will pay for that? Canadian and American working class citizens. \n\nIf you think Canada is so great, you’re either a wealthy boomer, or have no clue what it’s like to work for a living in this modern economy in Canada. People are required to work 2-3 jobs just to afford the basics. Wages have been stagnant since the 90’s here, with cost of living rising 600-700% in the last 10 yrs.

As a Canadian who lives in (largely French-speaking) Quebec, I don't know if our gov't even NEEDS to tariff American consumer goods, the people here are already boycotting US goods and companies en masse. EVERYBODY is doing it - and the pace isn't going to recede anytime soon. Even after the Orange Turd is long gone, trust me, Canadians will remember this! The American state has proven it cannot be trusted. They have unilaterally broken the trade agreement (negotiated by the previous Donald J Chump administration) on the flimsiest of reasons, the 00.2 % of fentanyl that flows over the border into the US from Canada. That deal now obviously not worth the paper it was signed on.

It should be said the people who didn’t vote for trump are just as pissed off as the rest of the world. Remember that. Fact is in my opinion America hasn’t embodied the views it was founded on in a very long time and is likely a shell of what it used to be. Corporate greed and shareholders is what runs this country and it disgusts me to my core. Honestly I don’t wanna stay here and the more people I meet as my life has continued the more I feel like these aren’t my people and the more I feel that this place isn’t my home. As an American who was born here and live here for over 50 years, I am so ashamed of this government, the republican politicians and some of the democratic politicians. Canada runs its country so well that companies are lined up to come here, start new factories, and employ new people. \nNo, they are running away for lower taxes, lower gas and diesel, lower regulations, and a chance to start new businesses without the hassle that might as well be years before they get a permit.

I'm usually reasonable enough to realize that while I may disagree with many policy decisions, there's usually a relatively coherent line of thought to back said actions up. The problem here is that there’s no clear logic behind using tariffs as a tool to curb fentanyl trafficking or immigration. I'm not going to speak on the issue of immigration at the Canadian border because there simply is none. Yes, there are illegals from Canada, but almost 100% of them are from overstaying visas rather than crossing the border unlawfully. So let's talk about fentanyl. \n\nMost fentanyl in the US originates from China, often in precursor form, and is then processed in Mexico before being smuggled into the states. But it's typically trafficked in small, high potency quantities, often hidden in legitimate shipments or through mail, and only on very rare occasions is it being brought in by individuals crossing the border. It has _never_ been documented to have shipped in as part of large scale commercial imports, so a 25% tariff on legal trade with Canada and Mexico doesn’t directly target the black market supply chain at all.\n\nIf we take Trump’s reasoning at face value, the argument seems to be that he wants to exert economic pressure on Mexico and Canada as a means of having them crack down harder on drug trafficking networks. But the issue is that fentanyl simply isn’t coming in through mass import channels, so all this looks like is a punitive measure without a clear mechanism to actually achieve its stated goal. And the implications? Drastically higher costs for consumers in the US, Canada, and Mexico, with absolutely nothing to show for it.

Fair trade hasn’t existed for many years, and while there may be increases felt by these tarrifs, our hope is that long term we manufacture more excellent goods here & use more of our own natural resources! Those commenting about what we are doing to Ukraine need to get their heads out if the sand…the Ukrainian people don’t want Zelinski but cannot get rid of him! He has taken hundreds of billions of dollars from the US and has no plan for peace in his nation…Pres Trump says enough is enough, and he is trying to not only end the war, but recoup massive amounts of money we wrongly gave through a deal for natural resources. Sounds like a plan that’s good for everyone involved, and that’s how you make deals! We cannot give whst we do not have & with our debt , we cannot afford to keep printing money, devaluing the dollar, and giving it away at the expense of hard working N Americans!

Trump did a good thing. All you woke, soft hearted liberals don't get the fact that the USA has been allowing these other countries to eat off of us for free. Well, that' stops today. All of our tax dollars have been donated around the world to other people's causes while we are made to suffer. We have a financial crisis right here in America that needs to be addressed. Neither can many of the other NATO countries. So, middle finger to him and any other country that opposes us. It's time stop being taken advantage of and for the USA to start acting like we are the most powerful nation in the world. Many of you don't like Trump's decisions simply because you don't like the person. Get out of your feelings and look at then big picture.

I know...I've been to Niagara Falls and Toronto....best visiting place ever. Beautiful Country and my hope is to one day have an opportunity to visit and take the train across. Hi, American citizen here. Please know that half of us are so, so embarrassed to be part of the United States and to have Trump as our president. I cannot put into words how upsetting it is to know that so many people elected him a second time.

But what surprised me is how on his 1st day he tried to make a joke, smth. “We, Canadians, have nothing to apologize for, except for Celine Dion”. He startled to giggle, searching our faces for a sign of approval. There was none! We love Celine! To this day it astounds me how many Canadians badmouth their great singer or their own Prime minister. What is wrong with you? As a Canadian, I share the opinion of about 80% of our country. Trudeau is a clown, and after 10 years of him destroying our country, we can't wait for him to be gone. The stuff he is saying about the flow of drugs is not accurate. Just like everything he does, the moves he has made to fight the drug trade are just theatre, with very little results. I don't like Trump, but he is correct about the drug issues we have up here.

Canadian here- I hate Trudeau just as much as most Canadians, and as it seems most Republican Americans do as well. But I fully stand behind him at this hour. He might have shit the bed for most Canadians during his time as PM, but when it mattered he has stood up for Canada. Review the facts and educate yourself on the current situation between CAN and the US. I will be the first to admit, Canada has not done enough in terms of its own security and military, but these failures should not be the decay in our friendship as nations. The US DOES NOT subsidize Canada, it DOES NOT give money to Canada. In simple terms- the larger country, with the largest economy in the world (USA) buys more from its Northern brother, which produces vast amounts of natural resources which the larger southern country requires. As for the booing seen at most recent sports events in Canada, that is directed at the President, not the average American. I myself would never boo a national anthem, an anthem that millions have sacrificed to protect and defend. But I understand the pain and anger that is coming from my country. We have always been allies, friends, and to most even family. I do hope that in the future our relationship can heal and move forward but the current actions being taken by the American admistration are horrendus and upsetting to most of the world outside of the US. I wish us all the best in the future, be nice to one another, and always remember that the US and Canada have fought, spilled blood, and died alongside one another in the fight for democracy and freedom around the world.

As a Canadian who has lived my whole life here, in my opinion there were two major factors that need to be highlighted that started this mess: fiscal policy and focus on fringe politics. First, Canada came out of the 2008 meltdown relatively unscathed due to following a markedly different strategic path than other major countries, namely tight banking regulations as well as 15 years of paying down the national debt. However, several years after 2008, sentiment shifted to adopting the same MMT-led fiscal policies as other nations: lower interest rates and deficit spending. Secondly, at least 10 years ago, there was a major political shift to start emphasizing fringe social issues (climate, race-based, gender, etc.) instead of standard issues such as the economy or military to name two, and it was strongly evident in academia and in the media. The result was little governmental, public or media attention being paid to core economic concerns such as the massive growing government and consumer debt levels, highly inflationary housing market, or decreasing productivity. When COVID hit, the government further doubled the existing federal debt and when they found that unsustainable, opened the doors to massive immigration levels to bring the Debt-per-Capita ratio down which while helping in that one metric, has further inflated the housing market all while forcing wages down. We now have unsustainable public debt levels, unaffordable housing, decreasing wages, decreasing productivity, and a troubling reactionary political swing towards extremist right-wing ideologies. Top that off with the US administration seeing Canada is on an economic precipice and threatening to take the country over, there couldn't be a more perfect storm.

My family has lived in Canada for several generations. My grandpa moved here from Italy and he started a large masonry company and become successful. But as a college student, I'm the 5% minority. Everyone else is from the third world, especially India and China. Our culture has been completely destroyed and replaced. Plus tens of Billions of dollars is being donated to them, and the aboriginals to fund their drugs and alcohol. There's thousands of very high homeless people wondering the streets, all funded through welfare. The cost of living has sky rocketed. I am moving the the U.S. I want to be with my own people! My godson's parents, who he loves and respects and helps financially, are undocumented immigrants here in the US for 30 yrs. He lives in a community of undocumented folks. He and his brother voted for Trump. His whole family understands the consequences of so many people being here illegally. When you have as large of a percentage of the population who aren't protected by their citizenship and the laws and who can't access the full benefits of citizenship and who are always scared of being caught and will take less pay, people can be used and abused more easily.

Hi I'm from Russia and I would say that mostly people who lives in english speaking countries they usually can only tell about wealth privilegues of having particular passport, offical status of their country and that's it. for my personal opinion the motherland is something that is more than that. In case anyone is wondering why so many Indians are trying to flee Canada here it is. Under Trudeau and the liberal government Canada was basically giving a free pass to anyone who wants to come to Canada through colleges and universities, if you get into a Canadian school, you can get a study permit (which also allows you to work for 20h a week). Additionally after the schooling you are given a guaranteed work permit for the same duration as the schooling (if you went to school 2 years you get a 2 year permit, 4 years you get a 4 year permit, ect.) A Canada and immigration agencies (for some reason) basically advertised this to India as a guaranteed way to get permanent residence in Canada. Canadians hated the massive flood of people coming into Canada (about a million a year at its peak, which for a smaller country like canada is equivalent to 10 million people coming into the USA every year). This is really unpopular with voters of course (in part because of the housing, food, and low skill work shortages it created), and the next Canadian election is this year. So the conservative government has vowed to massivly decrease the number of immigrants coming into Canada and the Liberal government knowing that this can be used against them in the next election is decreasing the amount of PR cards they are given (like a Canadian green card) as well as the people they are letting in in total. Now as the (mostly Indian) immigrants work permits expire and they will soon be kicked out of the country or no longer legally be allowed to work, they are fleeing to NYC to try to take advantage of the sanctuary city (something that does not exist in Canada).

Ah yes, let's defend the criminals so they can be taken advantage of by companies that want to pay less for illegal workers ? make it make sense. You know what would stop them from being exploited by companies? Being legal and documented so they get paid as a regular American, and not let the worst criminals from other countries stay here.
