Immigrants have contributed to making Canadian products and real estate expensive and have changed the image and carbon footprint of Canada to be what they want it to be. Thus, I as a natural born Canadian cannot relate to this country anymore. Too many corrupt politicians \ntoo much BS and no more democracy as we are now a totalitarian country. We subsidize immigrants at the expense of natural Canadians and deprive true Canadians from working by giving jobs to immigrants at a discounted rates for employers. Can anyone say job discrimination. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH...i did not pay taxes all my life for immigrants to benefit from our system.

My family moved 22 years ago from Mumbai to Toronto…while the struggles said on your channel are real, there are also perks which I feel like you didn’t get to experience. If people have good jobs, stable family life then DON’T move…culture shock is huge that people moving from India don’t consider, just by wearing and eating western food doesn’t make you western! \nThere are sacrifices to be expected which you don’t realized as your great grandparents or grandparents might have made when they started out! \nMoving to another country is never easy, unless you’re loaded with $$$. People in India are lazy as they have people working for them and don’t realize how difficult it is living outside of that lifestyle (not everyone in India can afford housekeepers, cleaners). Being independent and doing things on your own has its own positive (just need to figure it out). \n\nI have worked in healthcare for 16 years and let me tell you…social system works better as everyone gets the health service without being judged about $$. Healthcare is based on priority around the world but people don’t understand this as they feel like their problem should be attended first no matter what! \nNot all drugs are legal in Canada, marijuana is legal though with acceptable limits…you probably were misinformed about drugs! Teach your kids about right /wrong when it comes to drugs, smoking, alcohol and that’s the best you can do! I know people who live in India and do all that which you mentioned you were worried about for your kids. \n\nWhat you experienced was a classic case of culture shock and your expectations didn’t match the reality! Moving away from family, changing lifestyle and being responsible adult (doing things on your own rather than relying on workers) is difficult but doesn’t make the country bad that have you an opportunity to settle! Don’t take things for granted even while you live in India…appreciate the effort that goes into everything- keeping roads clean, people working hard, etc. \n\nBest advice I can give to those considering moving to any foreign country is: Keep an open mind, be ready to work hard and visit the country you want to move to before you make the grave decision of uprooting everything! Things usually turn around and get better after 5 years mark- focus on upgrading your education if you have a basic degree from India (even you know how competitive things are in India, so how can western world not be!)\n\nBeing vegetarian- things are tough when it comes to food but living in Toronto has never been an issue. Even people living in India avoid outside food due to hygiene reason which is not a problem in Canada as food inspection is pretty strict (having worked with ministry of health). \nCities like Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, etc has variety of food options (including veg)…just have to be really open to trying other cultural food (Asian, Mediterranean, Italian,Mexican, etc). My parents are strict vegetarians and have never truly struggled when they are out. \n\nCost of living is definitely higher as the standard living is higher compared to India. Education (until grade 12) and healthcare are free (in reality, you pay tax for it), you get pension when you retire (based on your contributions and type of jobs you had)…you failed to navigate the system and I will say having family around is why you didn’t take opportunity to explore and learn on your own. \n\nPlease don’t come to Canada and make life difficult for other Indians who choose to willingly accept the culture and lifestyle here after going through this hardship- cost of living and housing has gone up dramatically in major cities because of immigration influx! If you’re serious about moving and putting up, only then move! Otherwise all the best for your future endeavours!

I find it so amusing that Canadians always have to preface everything with self righteous boasting about how multicultural they are, how their city has a world class this and that—in this case—film festival etc. etc. I have never been anywhere in Europe for example where first anyone even mentions Canada much except to say that there are a lot of trees. And no one in real cities with a culture like Paris, Madrid, Berlin harp on how world class they are or how multicultural they are. Also, in terms of immigration, give me a break—you have obviously not travelled anywhere—go to Berlin, Paris, New York etc. to see people from all over the world. Canadians have been told through the internal propaganda that Canada is the best country in the world—but it’s not.

Immigration in Canada has changed drastically over the decades. Up to around 50 yrs ago, Canada was affordable and there were plenty of opportunities for poorer immigrants to exploit and create a better life for themselves. They became farmers or small business owners, and therefore had a real stake in Canada. Today those same opportunities are long gone. Canada's new immigrants are more likely to work in the service industry, as Walmart Greeters or Uber drivers. Immigration now is exploitive as immigrants have no choice but to work for the substandard wages Canadian corporations offer. Immigration policy is driven by the business lobby which creates an open labour pool and perpetual surplus of workers which employers can now exploit. In the end, this harms ALL Canadian's and the real reason your children will not be able to afford a home as easily as your grandparents could, and took for granted.

All western financial systems are due a heavy crash they can not keep up with such vast amounts of people coming in and as in Europe the vast mass of illegals who can not work sucking up the benefits system raises taxes and demand for housing is shooting prices up. \nThe western governments went into money printing mode that creates inflation raising prices on every day goods and foods this can not be sustained for much longer before it all comes crashing down, This also affects places in schools and medical wait times with more people flooding in to the point in the UK where i live you can be waiting up to 5 hours for an ambulance and 3-6 months for an operation.\n25 years ago you could get a 2 bedroom house here for around 25k now you are looking around 150k-250k the kids born here have no chance of owning a home and most end up staying with parents up to their 30s-40s, Even private landlords are under threat from government buyouts that end up housing migrants and not our citizens its a real mess that has no signs of slowing.

Live in a $3000 rental or buy a house mortgage life for $1 M for 30 years. Any young person with a brain and ambition will move to America. \nAmerica, partnering with Mexico as per the new NAFTA is the future. There’s no need for America to pamper Canada anymore. Anyways, the REAL issue is WHY THE SHORTAGE of affordable housing in this country? \nIs it creepy local elected officials that LOVE rising property evaluations and the taxes they bring? Is it speculative pricks, just buying anything to wash away dirty money? Is it the shortage of units that Airbnb and other short-term rental monstrosities created? Or is it, maybe ALL of those? No matter what it is, blaming the FEDERAL, when most of those conditions are due to LOCAL or PROVINCIAL control, is pretty IGNORANT!!!

I've been trying to explain to my fellow Canadians for several years that our ridiculous obsession with putting our investment income into real estate, often via non-essential home improvements for NO REASON other than to raise the price, is hurting our economy. Unless you run a business, offer services, or operate a factory in your house, houses do not produce GDP! \n\nI am not saying to not fix up your house if you need to. I'm not saying that if you think that your house would be lovely with a deck that you shouldn't build one. What I'm saying is that to put every dollar of disposable income into real estate instead of investing in something like businesses, equities, or private credit that our country will continue to suffer, and this IS something that we, as working Canadians, can control.

1) Toronto is poor value. Getting housing of any kind (buying or renting) is stupidly expensive. And the quality you get for the price is lousy. Especially the newer builds, which are just thrown up as quickly as possible and sold to investors. Policy measures generally all seem to serve to just inflate the price of housing further. The occasional lip service given to affordability is amusing, but ultimately sad. There are lots of people who really do not want the housing bubble to pop. They will fight against it with all they have.\n\n2) It has become kind of boring. There is lots to do if you have money, but it’s harder to find entertainment on a budget. Even the free stuff like parks are filling up. Stuff like sporting events, eating out, going out is very costly across the board. Even the “cheaper” stuff is expensive. It seems like a lot of local culture is disappearing. Even the cool neighbourhoods are filling up with the same chains. I think the high commercial rent and bureaucracy is deflating a lot of would-be entrepreneurs. Most landowners seem to just be banking on cashing out their land for condos.\n\n3) Canada overall has a high cost of living compared to salaries. In the US you can find lower cost of living areas that still give you a real city experience. And in Europe you can be poor but still live a decent, if no frills, life. In Canada the basic necessities are all expensive. Phone bills, grocery bills, rent, insurance are through the roof. Domestic travel is expensive. And the dollar sucks if you want to travel abroad. Health care is free but good luck finding a family doctor or waiting 8 hours in the ER these days. It’s expensive to be poor, or even middle class.\n\n4) Most of the Greater Toronto Area, outside the core, is soulless suburbs with awful transit - very “American” except with worse traffic congestion. You will need a car, which is another huge cost. Row upon row of old cookie cutter suburbs with the same crappy houses. Good luck walking anywhere, and if you do you will need to walk down boring, treeless arterial roads with cars zooming past right beside you, and cross giant eight lane intersections that were never built for humans on foot. In a rainstorm or on a fall evening you have to be really careful not to be run over by aggressive drivers.\n\n5) It is hard to raise a family in an apartment here. You can do it but it’s not very easy, and also you are still kind of judged for it. Lots of young people are feeling stuck and are deferring or avoiding starting a family. Buying any type of house, even a basic townhouse, requires pledging your soul to a bank by taking a massive mortgage with eye watering debt in a volatile market. But few apartment buildings have the kind of sensible gentle density, the family unit sizes and the common amenities, like little courtyards with jungle gyms, that you might find in Europe. No one ever contemplated that anyone would ever desire to raise kids in an apartment. It’s just a cultural thing that has worked its way into how things are planned and designed.\n\n6) The transit system is ok by North American standards but awful by international standards. There are only two real subway lines, one stub line, one line that is permanently out of service after a derailment, and another line that was supposed to open a couple years ago but still has no date for opening. The subways go out of service frequently, sometimes for the dumbest reasons, and then it is a zoo of shuttle buses. The streetcars are nice but so slow. The buses are fine if you find yourself dreaming about riding a daily herky jerky rolling tin of sardines. They are building a lot of transit but it will take decades to get done.\n\n7) There is still a lot of cool multiculturalism and opportunities to experience different foods and cultures - one of the best things about Toronto. Increasingly though it seems to be losing the fun vibe of the 90s, when everyone celebrated each other’s backgrounds and was chill. It seems the immigration is not as broad based anymore and also people are importing a lot of their “old country” grievances here. The immigration system also kind of preys on people abroad by selling them a false fairy tale, so they end up dejected when they arrive and see how things really are.\n\n8) This one might be controversial but it’s kind of an ugly city. There’s nothing particularly of historical meaning or value. Some of the older neighbourhoods are kind of nice, but the last 25 years they have only built giant glass skyboxes, one after another. There aren’t the cool “missing middle” walkups like in NY, Chicago or Montreal (or even LA). There are very few buildings with much architectural character. Some of the buildings they deem “heritage” here are an embarrassment.\n\n9) For safety, honestly on this score I think Toronto is not bad. There are not too many real “ghettos” and it’s night and day compared to much of the US. With that said, there is more vagrancy and social issues these days, with tents and such. It’s very sad but the shelters are full, lots of homeless go into the libraries, parks and transit system. It does make it harder to enjoy these public amenities safely. It is nowhere close to Europe where you might let your kids run free around town. Canadian parents still helicopter their kids and the place again is not designed to really be safe for kids, in the same way as Europe.\n\n10) Finally, a bit of a double edged sword. Toronto had a lot of youthful energy - people coming here from all over. It is definitely not as sleepy as many parts of the world. With that said, it is becoming a bit of a transient place (minus the world class experiences like London or NY). If you are from elsewhere you might find it hard making and keeping friends. I’ve seen lots of people struggle because it’s is hard to build a strong social network. We have a very “shallow” culture here - people are extremely polite but not overly warm and hospitable. We treat one another kind of like neighbours - meaning we’d like to have a cordial, drama-free coexistence and otherwise kind of stick to ourselves.

I grew up coming to Toronto regularly and I moved here in 2018 to start university. I felt safe and had no real issues for the first 2 years. This past year though I have had three life threatening situations on the TTC and street. I was threatened to be stabbed by a man on the subway and chased by a woman on St Clair threatening to kill me. The city is not the same at all. I love it here but I do feel like im risking my life leaving my home.

Extremely competitive job market. Newcomers will have to suffer for a long time to break-in. \n4. Depression and drug addiction is everywhere. It's more deadly than covid but the government can't address the problem because they lose control for good. \n5. Canada is far away from many other places, which makes things worse as you feel trapped in a workcamp with no place to escape. \n6. The cost of living is getting much faster with the salaries significantly behind year after year. \n7. Canada became the country of failed government, failed multiculturalism, too tolerant as a result. \n8. Retirement in Canada will be impossible for 95% unless you agree to live in the middle of the nowhere until depression kills you. \n9. Many who came to Canada 25+ years ago and still around felt trapped. Canada's source of immigration will likely be the poorest communities who will agree to put up with everything listed above just to get out of where they live right now. \n10. Sad, but true. I have seen a steady decline in Canada since 1998. Things get worse every year.\nAmen to that. I'll be visiting Lviv in 2025 for the first time since 2000 to check on my apartment in the city centre, not far from my Alma Mater LPI. I THANK GOD every day I didn't sell it and so I have a place for retirement!

With no ill meaning let me say good, this is best for everyone. They were lied to when they were told we could afford to take them and had the means to support their transition into our work force. We were lied to when we were told they'd fully integrate and are doctors and lawyers and yadda yadda. The reality is we had no real system in place to verify and transfer their qualifications and credentials. Doctors couldn't be doctors. They needed the work, we needed the doctors. It was a lose lose.

Canadian ruling class markets the country as a bastion of freedom and equality. We immigrated, believing in that notion . Then, slowly came to realize that that belief is false .\nTruth is, canada is a fake democracy. This is such a depressing video. Canada is fucking full.\nWhen people say immigration is good for the economy, they fail to mention that it's the immigrants themselves that are flourishing at the expense of the native Canadians. \nYeah the economy does better because there's cheap labour, low IQ workers that'll pack boxes for 10+ years with no complaints, and those same high skill workers are stealing opportunities from native workers that are equally high skilled (they lose out on opportunities not due to being out-competed but due to Affirmative Action, see ESG scores).\nThis is so grim, seeing Canada, in real time, get raped by foreign insurgents.

I’m here for last 6 years but I’d like to tell people - Canada is not the place to come and never ever make this mistake . Economy literally zero, school system - other than real education they teach you everything which is of useless in life, medical care - people have been waiting to see doctor for over 2 years, income tax is 50% which is you’ll never get anything as take home. There are way too many society issues that she’s not able to cover because of the limited time she lived here. There’s no social structure, festivals, support, mentally everyone’s weak, almost all food is GMO which will make you patient forever. Every family who came here post covid is struggling. Most of us are planning to return to motherland sooner or later ?? India is the best place for well rounded life always and many people are moving back including our group

If you are saving 1 lakhs per month which is possible in IT/software job then there is no point in going to Canada.\nIf company transfers you, then it makes sense. Otherwise it is foolish to go Canada. Canada govt. is taking million of immigrants and due to this real estate prices have gone up like 2-3 times. Your partner and you will have to work for atleast 20-25 years to pay the home loan.

Toronto isn’t alone, globalization has allowed wealthy investors to gobble up homes, destroy the neighborhood and ruined the opportunity for young people to buy a home. \n\nI was saying 20 years ago, where do they expect workers to live in the future if they can’t buy a home in the area? Florida is beginning to experience this in a real way now, lots of older people retire to Florida, but who can afford to live there and take care of them and healthcare and services? \n\nThe problem was so apparent, but the people making money off the real estate bubble didn’t care, the politicians didn’t care, the people that would end up suffering have no voice still! \n\nHere is where it gets worse, even people that have property will have to divide that property up among multiple kids or heirs. When those kids get their share of a property, they’ll be unlikely to afford the rest of the money needed to own a home in the future. It’ll get much worse without major action, the market will not correct itself. The market is functioning just as it was intended, short-term wealth for the few, long-term ramifications for people not even born yet.

Came to Canada from Israel 25 years ago. That time, in 1998 Canada GDP per capits was 33% higher than that in Israel. Two years ago Israel left Canada behind. It is shame for Canada to be poorer than the very small country without mineral resources and without a single day of peace since 1948. \n\nI blame Canadians for that. Canadians love Socialism, which means nothing more than re-distribution of incomes by the Socialist governments. Socialism brings no equity but equal misery. \n\nAlso, Canadians love to pay taxes and have expensive real estate which they plan to use as a source of income during retirement.\n\nCanadians most of the time vote for socialists like Trudeau. \n\nThis is why I do not recommend to settle in Canada. This country has no hope in my view.

Yes actually I do have a comment or two. I think that Toronto has become the victim of either its own success as a multicultural, diverse and growing metropolis or the perceived idea that Toronto is the place to be. And what that brings with it? Yes, people who are interested in living the life and those who can afford it pay it. You said it very well, the city has become unaffordable to most people but the wealthy or at least those who are getting paid the best salaries and those who bank on real estate take advantage of this, be it the hype or reality since also, most job opportunities are still there. So to me the problem is with the lack of contro of the real estate market. And people who cant pay but for whatever reason live there just have to pay the price. The refugee situation is not surprising to me at all. We are struggling with affordable housing for crying out loud but we are also advertising to the world that we are that welcoming and peaceful society that those people can be part of. But at what cost. Toronto cannot continue like this if it will still be considered as a city for the people and not the wealthy and chronically increasing poor. No wonder they chose a progressive for a mayor and not a conservative or hard line liberal because people want change but not radically. People want to live in the best city they can having all necessary services and in peace and safety. Simple...live to work vs work to live....as Canadian born visible minority...I can confirm no matter where you move in Canada it will all be the same story.....The systemic racism is very real but more about bullying. Its so passive that you never know when it hits you until you think deep about it. I read the comments about regret....and I totally agree, about the life back home. So I will tell you this. If you really miss back home, save up, let your kids finish their education and move back home and enjoy your life that you always wanted. It is a real problem for the people when the temperature drops to -30C. Mental wellness is a huge issue. The racism issue is mainly against the indigenous. The doctor migration to the US is a money thing, not better conditions. Getting a family doctor is easy in some places and difficult in others, generally in rural communities. Getting a reference to a specialist is not an issue and I believe this may be a doctor specific issue. If your GP does not refer you, ER will take care of you. The issue with referrals is the triage system that may result in a longer wait to see the specialist. This is in contrast to the US where one can see a specialist very quickly, if one has insurance. In Canada, every citizen and legal resident has the ability to receive medical care as covered by the provincial medical systems which differs from province to province. Many doctors are now offering online communication with your GP and specialist. Your finance comments are inaccurate. There are 5 nation wide banks but there are also nation wide credit unions and provincial banks which in my opinion these tend to offer better service than the big 5 (exclude National Bank, which is big bank but more investment focused). Cell carrier monopolies is a real issue. Cell carriers are recently offering unlimited data, no long distance to the US, etc. Other countries have a definite advantage here. I have mixed feelings about this video. This video does a good job outlining the immigration process but it does not highlight any of the negative consequences of immigration that Canada is experiencing. One of the main reasons why cost of living is so high in Toronto and Vancouver is precisely because we have so many immigrants coming in without enough housing supply. This is by design because politicians and the upper class have a vested interest in keeping real estate prices high because so much of their net worth is tied up in the housing market.\n\nAnother negative is that employers hire immigrants working low skilled jobs and pay them less than Canadians because the immigrants are willing to be taken advantage of since they're just happy to have a job in Canada which pays better than their country. \n\nAnother myth that gets repeated is that Canadian takes immigrants out of compassion and unfortunately a lot of Canadians believe this. It was never about compassion, it's about bringing more people to 1) pay taxes to support our social welfare as Canadian birth rates decline and boomers retire, 2) keep housing costs high and 3) pay immigrants lower wages for the same work because immigrants are fine being exploited since they have a job in a first world country.\n\nAnother problem is the cultural shift. In the most immigrant-dense regions you'll find that many immigrants themselves surprisingly don't want more immigrants coming to Canada because they see these negative consequences. The people who are most pro-immigration have no problem cramming 8+ people in a basement and exploiting their labour because they make enough money to live in communities that immigrants can't afford, and so they don't have to deal with the cultural shift that's taking place. This is NOT the fault of immigrants, but rather the politicians who put economic growth over quality of life. Over HALF the people in the GTA weren't born in Canada, so they didn't go through our school system and have no connection to our culture. Canada is unfortunately going to become very racist over the next 10-20 years as Canadians start feeling like outsiders in their own country. It's somehow considered racists to criticize the effect of multiculturalism on social unity, yet the cultures we accept in Canada only became distinct cultures because of monoculturalism.

Americams often tout their country as the beacon of freedom and the land of opportunities, but I don't feel that Canada is so different there. We're actually higher on the world freedom index, and its not like our economy was in shambles and everyone dirt poor... We pay more taxes, fine, but we also get more services in return, and that last part has the advantage to remove a big layer of worry. Like, for healthcare, I don't have to worry if i'm covered by insurance or not, or if the insurance carrier will drop me on some technicality. I'm a citizen. All the basic needs are covered; no questions asked (and the healthcare quality is not half bad. We just prioritize urgent cases over non-urgent; so if you go to the hospital for something non-urgent, you will wait, and more urgent cases will pass before you. Annoying when it happens, but I understand and agree with that in the end)\n\nSecond, I do see a lot of disadvantages. All the points raised in the video are valid, from the private-sector healthcare system, the gun control laws (or lack thereof), the social policies and legislation in some states; they don't agree with me.\n\nI think it comes down to some specific social and cultural ideas that are prevalent or at least present in a substantial manner in the american society. Bear in mind that I am generalizing here, not every american believes these points, but many do. The town I live in and grew up in when I was in school. We only had one campus, now here we are 18 years later and my one high school now has 4 different campuses to compensate for the amount of illegals that have overtaken my town. Thanks The Fifth Estate! We need you guys here in the US! lol Anyway, it seems you Canadians follow the same bad patterns as the US, including doing this. This is not good. Not only that, in the end, there are no real winners. Only losers. Greed is never satisfied and is in constant need of feeding, needing of new victims. This applies to greedy schools in need of new bodies, to homeowners over charging for houses. Canada will end up with newly homeless that needs housing, to unpaid debt that is saddled upon taxpayers. And worse of all, the victims..who traveled all this way, only to end up with debt, and an unfortunate life lesson.

Although this is not the case if you have money, same as anywhere else. The same can be said if you are poor life is an awful struggle.\n\nWell except in Russia…?\n\n \n\nI have stayed in Canada on numerous occasions and I have never experienced any real cultural clashes.\n\nWell some of the newer Canadians seem to think that if anything goes against them it’s discrimination. Moreover, some of the newer Canadians are very racist towards the more established immigrants i.e. who have been living there for more generations.\n\nThe fact that some companies have “white” non-immigrant boards is reflection on the competence factor. I have experienced companies that have employed new Canadians with non-western backgrounds that are totally disasters because they have no idea about the work culture, language, way of treating staff etc.\n\nI think that you YT page is like a lesson about how immigrants from non-western countries perceive and misinterpret the west’s work culture, society and culture.\nHave experienced some new immigrant bosses who are so elitist and discriminating i resigned.
