I'm canadian and yeah, while the healthcare can be tricky sometimes, in cas of a emergency, it's not that tricky. I had to go to the ER 2 times in 3 month because of a pneumothorax, arrived there, pass in 15 min approximatly both time and was in charge, spent 1 week each time there and the second time even had to have a part of my lung removed. Had no real tricky manipulation to do or anyhing. I was just happy it cost me absolutely nothing and I think it's definetly a reason why the lifespan is higher since in case of an emergency, if I was in the US and had to pay, I would have actually died, since I don't have the money for it, I'm a student so... (that also helps, my session cost me around 200 bucks... yeah, 200, I'm in college). Healthcare should really be something free everywhere, you never know when a shit can happen and... you can't really prepare your bank account for it...\n\nSorry for the bad english, I'm a native french speaker (yes, I'm from Québec)

I was born & raised in Canada. I love my Country and the people but I have no regrets moving abroad. I was making $200K/Year in Canada and I could not get ahead … wtf? Taxes and cost of living cost me my pay cheques. I moved abroad so that I could guarantee my retirement which I accomplished. Had I stayed in Canada I would never be able to afford retirement. In Canada I had no choice but to become an entrepreneur. Otherwise I would have been loving paycheck to paycheck. Canada has the ability to provide you a very bad life without the right skills.minimum wage is actually a suicide request.

My friend is from Mexico who came to the US legally and has been a border officer for many years now. He has a very hard time telling Mexican migrants that they cannot enter the US illegally. But the law is law and it is the same if you enter Mexico. It's just a matter of Mexico doesn't have many opportunities for jobs that pays well and it's a better life in the US. I grew up with migrants all of my life. They worked 3 jobs for many hours per day but would rather have that than go back to Mexico - with no job. If Mexico had a flourishing economy, I feel migration isn't an issue. But then there's history - California belongs to Mexico but someone sold it to the Americans long ago.

Yes and if these people truly believed in God and Jesus they wouldn't run from their countries but actually stay on the ground and stand strong in their faith that God and Jesus are going to help them persevere through all this. As a fully disabled American citizen with a child that doesn't even get $1,000 a month and there's no available housing at all where I live no waiting list to go on people on SSI disability don't get any extra housing help we're not offered separate housing are put on separate lists and low-income Able Body people or the migrants jumping the Border but I was born and raised here paid taxes and worked until my body literally couldn't anymore but I don't hear anybody bitching and screaming and crying about the fact that my son and I would be on the streets if it hadn't been for one of my family members stepping up and giving his housing after a lifetime restraining order issued during my pregnancy on my son's biological do do with domestic abuse situation. Don't you get it the politicians don't want people knowing that a lot of the people that are homeless on the street are people that are disabled and aren't disabled because they have mental health problems I know that's the narrative they've been trying to stuff down people's throats.

Hello I have a question if anyone could give me suggestion what would be best for me... \n\nI'm 23 years old currently finishing my honors degree in Journalism. In my life I never had any true goals. I kinda lived in a fantasy world of my own for some time(No drugs or anything). I have currently formed a great passion for making music. Although I still don't play multiple instruments or know my way around mixing software. I have a decent vocal and I can make melodies.With my music knowledge I believe that I can make good songs if someone could make music part for me. \n\nI want to immigrate to 1st world country because I feel like my talents are wasted here. I was also a great soccer player but couldn't do anything with that because there's no proper platform. \n \nSo I want to do Master's degree in a English speaking country like USA/Canada/Australia. I want to continue study and look for opportunities in music production and settle there. But I'm scared and nervous. Because I don't have any backup there. I don't want to do odd jobs and make day to day living. I want to succeed in life. \nI wish I had a mentor who can guide me through it. Well Canada is a great country, my grand parents were able to get here in 1957 with their 3 kids, after going through and surviving WWII, work in Europe was scarce and employers were abusing their workers everywhere. My dad was one of those 3 children's, he met my mother here, they had me and my sister. Today i have 3 boys of my own and my sister has 2 girls. Canada has any country as their plusses and minuses, but i wouldn't live anywhere else. I've lived my whole life on the south shore of Montréal, worked in and around Montréal for 35 years. Never ran out of work as long as i was willing and able to work. I've worked in all my life, 65% immigrants and 35% Québecer's. There both are kinda racists in some way and they have there own reasons as well. I was bullied in school till i was 11 years old, i had an accent and dressed differently since my dad made our clothing. Being ridiculed, pushed, punched etc, and then one day the bully of the school approached me and wanted to fight me. I was scared, everyone else were laughing, so i clenched my fist and punched that kid right on the nose. Everyone got quiet and the principal came out, we went to his office and then he asked me straight away : Are you gonna do this again or was it a one time thing ?? I said it will be one time thing unless someone else wants to fight me again, then i will have to defend myself again. He said ok and now go back to class, and that was that. But in the 1970's with the augmentation of people moving here after WWII, people in Canada were scared immigrants would steal their jobs etc. My grand father worked all his life till he died at 82 years old. Worked 6 days a week, 12 to 16 hours a day. My dad had worked all his life 70 hours a week and sometimes 85 hours a week. People complaining about doctors or hospitals, a lot are going in for a cold, the flu, headaches etc, for sure take 2 aspirin or tylenol and stay home, no need to see a doctor for that. If you have a broken limb or were in an accident, you go right in and get fixed up without issue really. Any country as it's inconveniences in the end ?

I'm from Canada. My friend had a heart attack on a ski hill. He was promptly given a full bypass surgery, recovered in hospital and discharged. No charge. That would be a life ending event in the US, if not by dying from the heart attack, from financial devastation. I have always been treated well and thoroughly tested when needed. I would NEVER consider supporting privatization. I was quoted $400.00 US when in Hawaii for a round of penicillin. Here $15.00 Canadian

Not sure I agree with Quebec being no 1. Being born and raised in that province, and able to speak French fluently. I had no problem moving to Ontario. Quebec is for sure a beautiful province, but that said, has the worst health care system, the political structure is definitely anti English. Any immigrant must go to French school, unless you pay privately. Taxes are the highest in the all of Canada, and you get very little in return. Personally, I would creep over the border into Ontario, and if you are working in a Quebec, pay a hell of a lot less in taxes, have a more liberal education system, both in English or French, and healthcare is much more accesible.

I think you ladies are way out in left field and you really don't know what you're talkin about. Unfortunately for some people it doesn't work out for whatever reason usually because they do not want to assimilate very well. I grew up in Ontario to a french-canadian father and an Italian mother in my life in Canada was so perfect said if I had to dream up a better life I could not have done so. I grew up playing all the sports and enjoyed all the different sports and the changes of seasons. My parents had a summer home on the st-lawrence river and every summer we water-ski swam fished, play golf in the morning and barbecues every night right on the water. Even though my grandfather was in the hotel business I was all about sports and enjoying everything about it. I grew up in a town of about 50 thousand about 40 miles from Montreal. When I wanted some great nightlife just drove a short drive to Montreal and it had everything did anyone could want in Nightlife. I have lived in United States for forty years and I can tell you that it really isn't all that it's cracked up to be. Heaven forbid should you get some kind of catastrophic illness you are screwed. I knew a woman who work for travelers insurance for 30 years at the best insurance a money could buy had suffered a couple of strokes and was on the verge of going broke had she not died when she died. People think that insurance continues to pay his long as you're ill and nothing could be further from the truth. This lady was going to have to sell her house to continue paying for round-the-clock care had she not died when she did. United States middle class is getting wiped out. I've seen enough poverty and hardship in this country to last a lifetime. I find greed to be running rampant in this country. When I grew up in Canada there was always the grass is greener on the other side and when I did move over to the other side the US that is I can tell you unequivocally the dead grass is not greener on the other side. There are more millions and millions of people here that are one or two paychecks away from being homeless. And we're talkin 2023. Now let's talk about violence. There is a mass murder in the United States every single day of the year. And a mass murder is defined by four or more people being killed by one person at one time. Killing these so out of control in the United States that now even six-year-olds are shooting their teacher. I find a tremendous amount of built-up Anger from people. Food is very expensive and shelter is also out of control and non affordable to most people. Again I find United States being able to paint a much Rosier picture then does really exist. And there are more con artists and thieves , Crooks, con-artists, bamboozlers, cheats and scammers then anywhere that I've ever been. And I will say this is it it ain't getting any better and I don't see it ever getting better. I find it is everybody out for themselves no matter who they cheat. I live in Southern California and I can tell you that night life where I live is non-existent. Understand that LA and Hollywood they always have to glamorize everything to sell it to tourists. Just remember that things today are not what they were 40 years ago. Middle-class people in Canada would also be just middle-class people in the US. But if your life means anything to you as far as safety and raising a family then Canada wins hands down end of discussion. People that say Canada is boring is because they are boring. That's what I found to be pretty standard across the board. Life is what you make of it. But I will say that you gals definitely need to move away if you don't like Canada. Do not let the door hit your ass on the way out. And just for your information Canada ranks annually as one of the top countries in the world to immigrate to. Canada is the second largest country in the world by land area and next to Saudi Arabia has the third largest oil Reserves in the world. Canada has huge amount of freshwater which most of the rest of the world seems to be lacking and having spent my Summers on the Saint Lawrence River one of the Great Rivers in this world. I wouldn't change my twenty years in Canada for anyplace else in this world and I will be moving back shortly.

Whilst I agree with some things you mentioned, let me know where it's better than Canada. I lived in the US and it was no better at all. It was work work work with no life and not much family time. Only very rich people in both Canada and USA don't pay much taxes because of the loopholes. The CRA and IRS mostly go after people who are struggling to put food on the table. \n\nI had a major operation that cost over $350 000,00 in Canada. I don't even know what I would have done if I was in the US with shortfalls, many people go bankrupt due to medical expenses. I am grateful I didn't pay anything. The health issues you mentioned are everywhere due to covid that has ravaged systems in most countries. It is very easy when you are healthy and not faced with a hefty medical bill to say negative stuff. When you are desperate like I was then you count your blessings. \n\nTalk of racism and discrimination, it is everywhere. I would still take our medical system over the American system without a second thought. Though I would be in favour of a parallel paid tier that's integrated with the public tier so that the public tier benefits from the profits and investments.\nRegarding financial technology, the perspective here is slightly short sighted, although to some degree, I agree. Compared to the US we have had debit (Interac) at retail point of sale since the late '80s/early '90s, and email money transfers (Interac eTransfer) since the late '90s/early '00s, long before the US had anything comparable such as PayPal, and apps like CashApp or Venmo effectively have no marketshare in Canada because of the long history of having email money transfers.\nLastly, for the cell phone plans, you are 100% correct, though we still don't have true unlimited, and only on plans including 5G service. However, there are some mitigating factors such as the high ratings of the network quality and stability for all major cell carriers despite wide swaths of our geography having little to no population and rugged topography. It's not an easy country to cover properly or reliably without it being expensive. Though Canadian telecom and cableco profits are through the roof, as are those of the big 5 banks. We definitely need more competition, though I'm not sure foreign companies coming in are the way to go with this.\nAlso, technologically speaking many important technological and scientific R&D is being conducted here and innovations are made here all the time, but in many ways, these companies get traction outside of Canada long before they get traction here.

You are wrong about Canada protecting and caring about homeless and in-need people. The reality is that even though you don't see all the homeless people, there are tens of thousands of them in each city, more so in the warmer climates. The UN has already been on Canada's back for the abuse of homeless people and the cruelty towards them and those with mental health problems. Canada is a fraud and has been deceiving immigrants and visitors for over a hundred years. Many of the homeless people in Canada, especially in the past 20 years and from the start of the pandemic, continuing to this day, are now including people with good educations and many years of high-level job experiences, as well as whole families. These people became homeless because of massive job layoffs and lost everything. Contrary to the popular Canadian ideology, homeless people are not lazy slobs who don't bother to work and need to get their acts together. Many of the homeless shelters are filled with dangerous people, bed bugs, and diseases. Many homeless people choose to find alternatives to sleep safely. Many homeless women experience terrible sexual assaults that rarely are reported and rarely ever taken seriously by the police. Most alternatives to shelters are limited and there are so many restrictions that qualifying doesn't always happen. Many have had their ID stolen, so they are unable to get jobs, rent homes, or even have a day to shower and clean their clothes. Most donations of clothes, blankets, and sleeping bags are disregarded because most homeless people don't have the means to carry things. Their nutrition is terrible, through no fault of their own. Many food banks will not give food to those without a home. Many soup kitchens will only help periodically and not for every meal. Canada's treatment of homeless people and mentally people is not just disgraceful, but criminal. The general attitude of many Canadians, as taught to them by deliberate government propaganda, is that if you are poor or were abused or a victim of crime, is that they did something to deserve it. Rents across Canada are beyond the reach of the majority of Canadians, yet, Canada refuses to set up a council house system like the UK. There are no emergency homes and no emergency assistance even close to what the UK and other countries across the world provide. Canada's continued abuse, ill-treatment, crimes against humanity, and genocide of the First Nations peoples is not a past history, but an ongoing history that is not about reconciliation. It is about shutting them up so that they cannot speak and get true justice, instead of just a federal government settlement of a meager amount that has only increased the addictions of victims, who have no one to help them or a place to turn. Canada lies about trauma help and treatment for people for having been victims, or have developed PTSD (this is a brain injury and only a mental health problem if the person becomes suicidal or is unable to do the basics of essential living), and worse, Canada lies about this in relation to kids. Alberta has a place that they claim is for treating trauma in kids. However, this place is nothing more than a low-level counseling center to reunite kids with their parents, who have been removed by law. Any child requiring help has to deal with just basic counselors, who are not trained in helping traumatized and PTSD kids. In relation to the First Nations peoples, if the teens have mental health issues, and if they have to be temporarily hospitalized by their parents, social workers and doctors will force joint custody with the parents, to treat the kids or remove them so they can carry on the government's crimes against the First Nations peoples. The crimes continue. In these past few months, a baby was left to die in a basket at a nurse's station in the Misericordia Hospital, Edmonton, Alberta. The mother was allegedly treated like garbage and her child was allegedly called a specimen. But this is not the only case of such abuse of First Nations pregnant mothers and their children. A case over a decade ago allegedly also took place, and the number of these cases in this hospital alone may possibly be much higher, and other hospitals may also be hiding such crimes. An infant, who was the victim of attempted murder by one or the other parent, was put in the care of relatives by social workers, who were totally unaware of the crime, but the one parent, who was put in the hospital's mental health unit, mentioned a version of what had happened, and when the relatives found out, they were allegedly reassured by the hospital that they would deal with the matter. The relatives believed, understandably, that the hospital would report the crime, but it never did. Allegedly the hospital covered up yet another crime. The police in the city, allegedly informed at some point, one of the relatives that no charges could be laid even if the child remembered as the Canadian health services do not believe that children below the age of 4 can remember anything. It was when I heard about this that I realized that the reason Canada has gotten away with the crimes against the 1st Nations, immigrants, Canadians, and who knows how many other victims, through the mandated alleged use of forced assimilation and the alleged Soviet-style education system, is because of this fake claim that children and even infants cannot remember things. I have to respectfully disagree with you girls on the tax system in Canada. You mention that you cannot be a millionaire or a billionaire. \n\nI really think that is the problem with our generation, excessive greed, everyone wants to be a millionaire/billionaire, but the reality is most of people in this world will only live an average middle class life or below, that has been the case throughout history in every country on earth. \n\nInstead of wanting to be a millionaire you should strive follow your passion and to master your craft, and if and when you do so, the end result maybe you achieving millionaire billionaire status \n\nThis how most rich people got their wealth, they worked at their craft and had passion and eventually they got the wealth that came along with it \n\nI agree with Canada's progressive tax system, the only problems we have run into since 2010 is that the government has been misallocating taxes collected and giving co-operate tax breaks. I'm Canadian and I love both Canada and the US. However, I don't think I would live permanently in the US because I think life is better in Canada overall. We have free healthcare, so no medical bills and no health insurance to deal with. Only a bigger tax bill that doesn't change according to your health situation. We have much less crime, especially gun related crime. We have less poverty and a much better social safety net. It horrifies me how many Americans are homeless even if they previously had a good job, but they had to stop working because of a health condition. We have less political extremism and polarization. Extremist Christians have no control over our politics, so LGBTQ+ rights and women's rights are much safer here than in the US. We don't have cities being burnt down by antifa on one side, and elections and social peace being jeopardized by MAGA extremists on the other. On a more positive note, I love the weather of the US, their fast food joints, their local food, the landscapes, the cheaper gas and all the attractions. I really wish the US could solve all its problems and become a better country. Maybe one day, we could end up similar and open our borders like Europeans do with the Schengen Accord.

This is very true. I am from India and lived in the US for a while, but it is really lonely and life really sucks there. \nThis was the first thing I missed when I was there. This also confused me as to whether you can walk on the road or not, since you saw no one walking.\n I would have been bored to death if I had continued living there. I also thought this is probably a key factor for the rise in drug usage. I pity the people in the west !!

I can agree with these comments if your not American, growing up we had all that interaction with family, friends and neighbors. Life n times have changed in America due to gun violence, especially in large cities. Socializing is different in every state in America and in every country. I can understand how if your not accustomed to our ways of life even today, that you would prefer your ways of living back in your hometown and your Country. If you live in a big City in America and moved there from a smaller town in America, you will be feeling some loneliness, that's normal to us in America. If your American then you adjust to making n meeting new people, that hasn't been so easy with the pandemic for anyone. To compare our homes in one community from another or even from another country, is just criticism. We don't have a specific way of living, as far as our homes are constructed. While visiting North Dakota we decided to cross the border for no other reason than to set foot in Canada. We got the full treatment. If I had realized it was such an involved process I would not have bothered them. Much easier crossing the border into Texas. You just stroll right in and nobody says shit to you because that would be racist.

It takes me 3 months to get a doctor appointment in the US here in Seattle and I was just told several months to see my eye doctor. Depending on medical plan the insurance means you do not go to the specialist without a referral. So Canadians may not have as much to complain about. My parents were immigrants to Canada because it was easier (my father was in Danish Merchant Marine and was in China Sea when his appointment would come up in New York). They did not have it easy because they did not speak the language and worked hard to learn. Working as a housekeeper was the norm for females and my mother's education meant nothing when she expected to work in a bank. Danes stuck together and helped each other to get jobs, with carpentry (most had apprenticeships like brick laying), to socialize, etc. and this is normal for immigrants. Working multiple jobs was normal and having a great home was their American dream instead of a government apartment. It is true for all immigrants that their kids will do better than the parents. The kids will have no accent if they learn English by age 12. There are age cutoffs on learning a language in child development. During the hiring process the jobs are given to people the interviewer perceives as being like themselves. This is proven by psychologists (I am one). This puts immigrants at a disadvantage unless they have a rare skill without competition. Dad got his house and Mom took my sister and went back to Denmark because of health issues and the US has garbage medical care and social services for the elderly (poor sister didn't speak Danish because it wasn't allowed in case it impacted our English skill). As a daughter of immigrants I worked 20 hours days and weekends almost all my life. I put myself through school and have been successful despite being female and making much less than men. Immigrants need to realize that it will be their kids who make the big bucks and succeed while the parents who immigrated will struggle. As a cultural mix (US, Canadian and Danish citizen because of wacky sexist rules) I have had a lot of confusion over the years trying to fit in and figure out what my values are. I have had to ask my US husband is that behavior normal? Of course different states in the US or going 200 miles north to Canada means a different language to speak (Canadian or Spanish in the South) and different values, ways of dress, etc. so being an immigrant can mean just traveling 200 miles north or to an insane state like Texas or New York. Culture shock is everywhere but most of us move for the money. I am thinking of going back to Canada but my home was Vancouver and that now looks like a hell hole. My husband had over a million dollars in medical care and I really do not wish to lose all my assets to medical costs in the US. So now I am trying to choose between death by earthquake in BC somewhere or death by tornado or perhaps fire storm in Calgary due to climate change.

As an older Canadian who was educated in Canada with a B.Ed. - then worked away from Canada for thirty of my forty years. There is no way to say that any country is the best one to live in; every country has strengths and weaknesses- that especially relate to your specific needs and wants. Coming back to the country of my citizenship was also extremely hard for me after working away for so many years. The way to do well anywhere in Canada, is to build up credibility/seniority at one job and stick with it. Whether you are university or self-educated- which is considered just as valuable in today's job market- you are going to face an uphill battle unless you are fairly established. Canada has a high level of unemployment and some sectors, have an overabundance of trained workers. When my Middle East friends tell me they would like to live and work in Canada, I give them the advice I would give anyone. First, think about your family or friends that you want to have around you in your daily life- that is number one. Nothing is more depressing than being alone. Weather is a big factor, but it can be tolerated if you are with your core family or friends. One hundred years ago when my ancestors fled war and revolution, they had no choice but to do their best to make a life in a very difficult climate (literally)- culturally and weather-wise. There are a number of refugees today that are in similar circumstances. They do their best to get past the difficulties for the sake of their children's futures. If you are not literally refugees, think hard about you choice to leave your core culture and people.

In Australia I had someone guess that I was Canadian. He said afterward that he based that on his experience that Canadians tended to be offended by being mistaken for Americans, but Americans didn't seem to mind being mistaken for Canadians.\nA couple of days later I mentioned that to a Canadian. He was a little surprised and told me that it would never occur to him to be bothered by that. I asked why not and he reminded me that Canada had over 30 million people while the Untied States had over 300 million. It's not personal. If you honestly have no idea and are just rolling the dice with your answer then your odds of being right are ten times higher if you guess Untied States.

Pretty good Adam I'd just mention a few of those things are...I don't want to say inaccurate but way more diverse. For instance French. Yes Quebec is the only French province BUT New Brunswick is the only Bilingual province and basically half and half. This is good for things like federal of provincial services because by law they must provide service in both languages but not so basically everywhere else. The problem with this is you can have an almost completely English town almost nobody speaks French and drive 15 minutes and be in a town where nobody speaks English. Research on this might be hard because a town with a French name may not have any French people in and vise versa. Also this problem is multiplied in the fact that if you Do want a French area we don't speak standard French or Quebecois but instead Le Chiac which is a difficult and confusing mix of old French and english (almost exactly like the Cajun dialect). Second part of this is that Montreal is easy to live in if you don't speak French and is so multicultural you are just apt to hear Swahili as French in public. Last part is be very careful where you move on the prairies as they have may isolated towns some that speak French also. Next is tipping I've never had to tip anyone for a haircut outside of the military and all other forms of tipping here on the east coast are purely optional and wait staff don't get upset if you don't leave a tip unless you were a jerk or left them extra work like making a big mess (I worked as cook for a while after I got out of the army and I rarely ever head staff complain) HOWEVER....tip a waitress well and she might accidentally give you 2 pieces of pie lol and tip a taxi driver well and he will not only get you the cheapest fare he will find ANYTHING you may need no questions asked. Lastly on the nice thing....we are nice for sure especially compared to our southern neighbours BUT there is a lot of passive aggressive nice that happens and this also varies greatly. For instance as a city boy of course you answered the way you did but a guy who have lived all over this country in big and small, French and English places who now has retired to a rural town I can say I find the cities quite snobby and the French and the English can be quite snobby to each other and where I live now if you asked a random stranger for 5$ chances are you would get it also driving down the road people you don't know will just wave at you as if you were the closest friends. Canada is certainly a weird place so many extremes and my advice to anyone wanting to move here is do your research and then visit and travel a bit if possible because even us Canadians can be surprised by thing or two across this gigantic country

What is the point of that study which doesn't make you to earn your money and don't be dependent on others to give you job. There are so many billionaires in this world today and in the past had never worked for someone and became so wealthy. And lots of them didn't have university degree. If you graduate from university and look for a job then no no for me and if I have company I would never hire you.

Canada is a country of immigrants, which means people who are, in my humble opinion, mostly quite self-centered and expecting the world from others, which never happens! Canada demands a gigantic capacity to adapt, to adjust and, in a word, to change...completely! You must be totally willing to leave everything behind if you want to integrate into Canadian society and this is extremely hard to do! Moreover, most immigrants come to Canada because they expect that country to give them a life of luxury or at least a very easy life, which can be true, as compared to certain other countries where life can be hell because of corruption, poverty or mismanagement and dictatorship. Now, don't fool yourself, you will find all of this in Canada too, in a very different way, although not always that different, but you will find it to a certain extent, depending on what you are trying to do here! Canada pretends to be a free and democratic country, but if there is one thing, that you are not supposed to do in Canada without dire consequences and reactions from most Canadians, it is criticism and voicing dissent! You will face repression too! I am 67 and I have lived in this country for over 30 years and now have lots of health problems, which I would probably never have had in another country, all this because of the frigging climate here...I just hate it here! Canada has different laws which Americans will never accept. when it comes to trade, Americans are not Free Trade or Fair Trade but Trade domination to eliminate competition. Racism was far more prevalent in Canada decades ago. I remember hearing stories from my aunts and uncles about the types of things that would happen when they first arrived in the country. People would heckle and threaten visible minorities. \n\nBut I can say I have personally never experienced systemic racism in Canada. This country gave my family and I opportunity, safety and a just system. I was born and raised in Canada, and this is my home. There is no other country I would want to live in.\n\nLong live Canada and what it stands for. God bless this land.\n\n\nEdit: I forgot to add that the post secondary program I graduated from had a disproportionately high percentage of students belonging to visible minorities. This is the case with similar programs across Canada. One could argue Caucasian students are grossly underrepresented in this program. Does this not fit the definition of systemic racism stated in this video?

For the shopping experience, they have the guys go in carrying hand bags. That's going to get their attention since shoplifters could easily put things into the bags and most people don't bring computer bags, hand bags etc when they shop.\n\nI've had instances where people were awful to me for no apparent reason (I'm white), and it struck me that if i was black, I would attribute the terrible treatment to racism since I couldn't think of any other reason for the bad treatment. \n\nAnother form of racism not covered here is the racism of low expectations. If people assume that you are too dumb to understand something or too poor to afford something, that's wrong. Same holds true for treating women as if they won't understand. Usually this behavior is done, not by bad people, but by people who just haven't had a lot of interactions with different people of different races. So they haven't had the chance to have those stereotypes personally disproven.

I’ve had uncomfortable interactions in retail stores here in Australia, because I’m a young mum (well not anymore but I have been, I had one baby at 19,21,25 and 27). Purely because they perceived me as a skank and drain on the tax payer to them. I’ve had someone ask if I had a concession card (low income/singles) and when I said “no” they’ve said “really?” Or asked me again as though I didn’t hear them. I’ve had people ask if my children all had the same dad. I would hate to think of how that would be exacerbated if I was a person of colour. I never judge anyone on first impressions but a lot of people do. It’s really sad.

I have no problem with skin color or race. I do have a problem when I go to the doctor's office and cannot understand half of what the doctor is saying to me. I do have a problem when I call for technical service and cannot understand half of what the technician is saying. This is frustrating. If people with another first language want to work for American companies where communication is a big part of the job, I only wish they would speak more fluently. I had this very situation this morning. Called for service, could not understand through heavy accent. He was getting very frustrated with me. If I went to another country it would be up to me to learn to speak that language. I dealt with this in the hospital...and in this setting it can be critical. I spoke to the Chief of Residency because of a potentially harmful situation and was told the residents all meet their requirements for English. well, whoopdido...that did not help either of us when a patient was going south.

I love Canada, I have a lot of family in Toronto and have been there many times as well as Montreal and Vancouver. Tbh, there’s no place like the US. We have all types of climates and geography. From deserts, tundra, rain forests, etc. We have some of the best mountains, beaches, and cities on Earth. If you like cold weather, stay up north like Chicago or Boston. If you like normal every season weather, we have many places for that. Mediterranean weather in California, and tropical weather in Florida. We have it all. We have the best sports fans in the world and every sport is accepted here. You can even see so many people play Rugby and Cricket in many parks. Many great universities throughout the country. Best attractions in the world for all age groups. High pay and decent cost of living in most part of the country. Supercar culture is the best in the world especially in SoCal (my personal favorite), TV and entertainment, and the list keeps going on and on. I know that the government in this country is pretty messed up, but hopefully that will be resolved in the future. I also respect the safety that Canada has, but have to admit that Toronto is getting pretty dangerous in some areas. Plus the History of America is amazing. I really do love Canada and would live there if I had to move out of the country, but there’s no place like the USA. ??❤️??

Psychology student here. In the interest of accurate information, I would like to point out some flaws I find with some of the studies in this documentary and question the conclusions reached. I understand that CBC Marketplace are not personality psychologists and therefore cannot be expected to produce the same quality of work as a scientist. However, I think it is worthwhile to think critically about the information in the media that we consume. I am also open to anyone who wants to engage in debating the contents of this documentary.\n\n\nThe following are some notes I took while watching the documentary outlining the individual hypotheses of the studies I think are flawed and descriptions of their respective accompanying errors. \n\n\nThere are three possible research questions, and thereby dependent variables, being answered by the apartment hunting studies.\n1. If there is no discrimination between the white man and the first-nations man, then they should get equal treatment, including quotes and availability, when apartment hunting. \na. Could the gender of the landlord be a confounding variable (perhaps men are more discriminatory than women)? \n \n2. If there is no discrimination between the white man and the first-nations man between Toronto, Montreal, Regina, and Victoria, then they should get equal treatment, including quotes and availability, when apartment hunting. \na. Could total apartments visited be a confounding variable? (4 in Toronto, 3 in Montreal, Regina, and Victoria) \nb. Could the gender of the landlord be a confounding variable (perhaps men are more discriminatory than women)? \nc. They only showed the black man apartment hunting in some of the trials. I am considering him out of the study for consistency purposes. The first-nations man is the only one who got unfair treatment in the footage of apartment hunting. \n \n3. Possible hypothesis: If male landlords/agents are more discriminatory than female landlords/agents, then the white man and the first-nations man will get different treatment at different Canadian apartments in equally diverse cities. \na. What if it was just due to familiarity with certain racial groups over others? \na. The black participants had no bias between European-American and African Americans, supposedly indicating no racism, while the white and first-nations participants did, supposedly indicating racism. Is it possible that another interpretation of this result is that bias is a function of familiarity: that we are comfortable with the majority demographic in the geographical location we live in, as well as our own kind. Therefore, the black guys are less biased against black people due to being both black and living in a white majority demographic? \nb. The participants took the survey knowing the objectives of the researchers was to study racial discrimination. They might have influenced the answers they gave \nc. Whether the participants agreed with identity politics or not was a confounding factor that was not controlled . You can only be racially unbiased biased if you think that racial identity is a means of accurately viewing the world. People who do not believe in the existence of identity politics may answer the questions quite differently, which could be a different reason for the results.\nd. I took the study myself. The words that participants were required to match were a mix of adjectives and nouns. It is known within psychology that nouns have higher levels of imagery. This was not properly controlled and therefore is another confounding variable. \n \nAll the other studies looked fine to me. I welcome any discussion on my observations.

I feel some sympathy for her. She is now 28 the last order would have been sent to her mother in 2006 which her mother ignored (at the time she was maybe 14) she would not have had a clue about what happened as a minor, since she was only 6 when she arrived. She should have dealt with this when she was 18 but 10 years have passed...she seems to be contributing and well spoken it's a tough call. She could go back to France and reapply as a landed immigrant - perhaps that would save face for the government and for her to get in legally. No idea why her mother thought a refugee application was a good idea from France of all places...

This is very unscientific compared to other Marketplace investigations. i have had worse things done to me by hispanic security guard at Safeway. I am white. i refused to provide my receipt to guard who singled me out after this happened to me multiple times, see below. they detained me for 15 minutes. I called the Berkeley police. Instead of arresting them for false imprisonment Police told me I was banned from store and would be arrested if I return. I have video. Wonder if that would go viral? No, I’m white. Also accused of stealing by Asian american deli workers at Safewat in SF. I have video of that. In that case black security guard backed me up in my claim that I brought in the rye bread from outside that I asked my sandwich be made with. At another Safeway in SF the Eastern European deli manager got the black security guard to single me out to produce my receipt. I showed it to him. A few days later I saw a black man walk in that Safeway and go to the expensive cold drinks area, open a bottle and start drinking it. I alerted the store workers but they refused to ask him fir his receipt because they had not personally seen him steal it. I had nit stole anything but that did not prevent them from asking this white dude or accusing me falsely in 3 different Safeway stores.

If these people had some decorum of respect for others, there would be no anti muslim sentiments, its very simple, keep your ideological/superstitious beliefs within your own domain, and don't approach people ( as a muslim) and futhermore, don't have the audacity to expect people to like you as a muslim, just as I, as a christian, do not expect people to like me ( as a Christian)

As a Mexican American I have faced all types of racism from people of different races, including my own. I lived in Mexico for a while when I was young and would get bullied by kids who knew I was born in the U.S. Teachers also treated me different; some treated me worse than they treated the other kids, and others favored me because I was American. When I moved to Philadelphia I attended a school that was predominantly black and asian. I was the only hispanic in my class. At the time Spanish was my main language and my English was “rusty,” which led to constant bullying from classmates. They would call me “dookie face,” tell me to “go back to my country,” and even had some girls put gum on my hair. I would cry every day. I later on moved to Chicago to an area that was mostly hispanic, and that didn’t stop the bullying, either. After I finally refined my English, I no longer wanted to speak Spanish unless it was to my parents. Yes, I guess the constant bullying pushed me to feel like I had to separate myself from my hispanic heritage. When my hispanic classmates spoke to me in Spanish I only responded in English, which would make them mad and they would think that I thought I was “better than them.” Anyway, that was long ago and now as an adult I can reflect on these things so that I don’t make the same mistakes. I get along with everyone and the only thing that changes how I feel about someone is their character, not their appearance.
