I pray I’m wrong..but when someone tells you what they want, unreasonable or not, I’ve learned in my lifetime to believe them

Canada is being too gentle in its initial response. Why not go full throttle right from the get go. It’s shameful what “the most powerful country in the world”,”the land of the free” or whatever arrogant nickname the USA wants to go by. I doubt that the Canadian People are in favor of the agenda of having nothing and being happy. What foolishness the elites expect people to believe. I’m sure that our Government will be able to get it all ironed out when Canada gets a leader that really cares about their people and not about those fake Carbon Taxes. I personally think Trump is after Canada to become part of the US. So, he's making stuff up to make the countries leadership look stupid. Trump can't prove that these drugs are coming through Canada unseen. This is only designed to destabilize The United States so that we are forced into dealing with Putin and Russia. Don't forget, Trump said he wants to extend his Presidency past this term and the next. His goal is to become like Putin. To become a dictator. Don't lose sight of what is to come. The USA president Trump wants everything to be manufactured and sourced locally from the United States of America. He knows what happened during COVID-19 and what problems the world experienced because of a global supply chain. Now while it doesn't really make sense with Canada who is right next door the Canadians were given the opportunity to integrate into the USA so there could be some motive in that. And why wouldn't they want that anyway? Just remove the Canadian border and everyone becomes the USA. Why not?

As a South African, I want to say that this trade war, as well as the hostile approach of Trump towards Canada, is devastating. If one were not experiencing it directly, it would be almost impossible to believe. This is such a remarkable speech that it will go down in history as one of the truly great speeches in times of crisis. It is entirely correct to address the American and Canadian peoples directly, as the Prime Minister has done. They are both clear victims of this madness, Americans misled, and Canadians the target, of this senseless trade war. If one reads History, there is another dimension to this, and I hate to say it. Canadians have to prepare themselves for worse. These types of antics by the aggressor usually involve, finger pointing, contrived border incidents, plausibly deniable incursions and other actions, by the aggressor, which one can find if the preludes to the WW1 and WW2 are studied. You say there's no need or reason for these tariffs but that is according to you. Donald Trump has made it very clear what he asks from the Canadian people. Canadian government has made Canadians paralyzed for decades with high tax rates, made worst business decisions emptied citizens pockets to fill outsiders and their own. Instead of making Canadians rich you have made us poor. I don't disagree to standup for yourself but our foundation is the weakest. I was almost born in Canada but because of an thyroid illness they did not aprove my mom to come to Canada (late 50`s) So my dad and grandfather decided to stay in the Netherlands. I think it was Margaret Thatcher during the Reagan administration the one who said, Americans are notorious about choosing stupid presidents. So, what to say about that? What I've heard from some of my friends is that they don't care if democracy is gone as long as their taxes go down. They want a lower income tax bracket. They're very single minded about issues. We'll see how we fair once you have to pay more at the pump, when the price of electronics go up, when produce and beef, pork, and chicken become unaffordable. Yes, the middle and upper middle class probably don't care, but the lower classes and the already poor are not going to be happy. Once people are hungry, then you'll see people on the street. Once the farmers start losing their farms and small businesses start losing their investments, you'll see people on the streets. Americans are not hungry enough yet. Just wait.

I can confidently say as a Canadian, what Trump has done and continues to do is driving the biggest wedge between Canada and the USA.
