As disruptive and asinine as Trump's economic schemes may be, it's sadly necessary that AMERICANS (we are often a very self-centered and blissfully uninformed people) feel the consequences of their vote as soon as possible. Americans MUST feel the pain to grasp the gravity of what a tit-for-tat tariff tiff between the US and Lord-knows-what-nation-Donald-will-go-after-next won't likely end well for us. It is what it is, and Trump is what he is. The whole world has no choice but to let all this nonsense unfold.

No big surprise, here. Trump announced 25% tariffs some time ago. Not much leadership, other than Captain Ford waving his new ball cap! Rich people can afford tariffs, we ordinary people are the one's to feel the pain. Nothing new again!

The trouble with political commentators is they try to think like a politician? Trump is not a politician! So think like a businessperson, its the deal and what is the best deal for the USA. In fact, it does America a favor, so if it becomes cheaper to make it at home, guess what? That's what they'll do, create investment, employment, greater wealth etc! What Trump is implying is that Canada is aiding and abetting illegal immigration to another sovereign country via government policies! Plus the Trump administration is transporting illegals back to their country of origin rather than to the last country that harbored them! And the common theme is, the people suffer for what?

This was the correct decision because the US wants bring jobs back to the USA. Jobs in Mexico vs USA trump will choose jobs in the US; Politely subsidized lumber from Canada vs lumber from the USA easy decision; Dairy from Oh' Canada , a short term squeeze. Im a Canadian and only % of drugs or people go across our boarders so what Trump is saying is again not true. Americans kill Americans .... Canadians do not kill Americans. I'm a US dual citizen. I live abroad, in Asia, so I'm not affected but this is just so dismaying. There is utterly no reason for starting this chaos. The American people voted for Trump (who knows why) and thus chaos and suffering is what people get.

Let Trudeau stay if Canadians are so proud of him. Trump is bringing back conservatism, resilience, hard work and merits back into US culture. And its no doubt conservative people can bear hardship far much more than woke people.\n1 week into the tarrifs when the reality hits hard, Canada would be on the streets. Negotiate before the tarrifs kick off... This fight would be counter productive for both sides, but Canada would suffer 10 times more.

Honestly everyone is to blame. Canada and Mexico have both been riding the American gravy train for decades and never got slapped by any of the former presidents. And now that a president who puts the US first comes along everyone acts like America and our president is in the wrong. Just because something wrong was allowed to happen for so long that doesn't mean it was right. So two things these tariffs will do to Canada. One your economy isn't exactly stellar right now. Two Trump just has to pump up the pressure further and Canada will fold. It's that simple. As for Mexico they are squarely attached to America's teet. They need us WAY more than we need them. They will fold. And during negotiations we will make them ok US military operations on the Cartels. All people see is the word tariffs and don't think about the strategy behind them. Tariffs are a tool to apply pressure and gain leverage. Canada and Mexico would do the same if they could. So lets stop with the pearl clutching.

If Trump wants to stop the use of Fentanyl by Americans, maybe he needs to educate the American people of the dangers of Fentanyl and punish Big Pharma and Doctors for prescribing these addictive drugs to patients. Tariffs would NOT solve the problem.

The regular people will suffer. Canada and Mexico will suffer more. The US economy is very big and dynamic. It will absorb tariffs. Trump's foreign policy is going to be very predatory. These trade wars have the potential to spill into other areas: Diplomatic and military in which Mexico and Canada cannot match the United States. The next four years are going to be turbulent.
