I feel like government and cities were really complacent with the incredible speed at which the real estate price has been increasing for the last decade. They were complacent because it benefited them with higher property taxes. However, this very short term view by the government had led to a social crisis. Who the fuck can afford apartments at 3000$/month. There is no solution but to crash the real estate market but this will also lead to a worse social crisis.

In 2007, my yearly gross income was double what I paid for my home. Now my home is worth double my income. My income is still the same amount in 2023 as it was in 2007. Food has increased 30% alone since 2021. So you can see Canadians were rich in 2007 compared to what today's cost of living is.

Toronto and Canada claim to be inclusive and diverse. I know many gay men who have been beaten up on the TTC. One buddy was beaten to a pulp, and no one helped him. People just sat there are let it happen, didn't even call the police.\n\nI would never live in Toronto, I'm leaving Ontario because this province is going downhill fast. Many of your numbers are wrong sweetie. Here are the facts;\n2 years ago, you would go to IGA (where food is fresh but it is pricey), you would get out with 2 bags of groceries for about 120$. Today, it is 180$ for the same 2 bags. this is NOT a 10% increase... but almost the double in price!\n\nRent, in Quebec province, have gone from around 1,000$ to 2,400$ in less than 5 years, and each time a tennant leave his place, the landlord rise (against the law but nobody can do anything) the rent often by 25 to 40%!!! The Demand is so high, that he can refuse you for any reason (including racism, children, pet, smokers) he can think of. Again, this is against the common law but in truth, there is nothing anybody can do, unless you can bring him to court, which takes lots of money...\n\nSo in reality, from the last 5 years, almost everything has double in price and salaries have barely start to rise (mostly due to unions who revolted) but if you are not part of one, your salary basically stayed the same.\n\nA very good advice, don't come to Canada. There is no 'dream' here anymore. it is hell. And even if you find a decent job, you will be ask to do the job of 4 peoples and taking your vacation will be near impossible without losing it. The biggest cause for the cost of living increase we've seen in Canada in the last decade can be largely attributed to government policy regarding immigration. Not the fault of anyone coming here. Foreign immigration agencies and the Canadian government are selling people false hopes. They are doing newcomers and Canadians a disservice. Unfortunately the government has no intention to put the brakes on the flow of new immigrants, even when there is not enough housing for everyone. We are at a breaking point in many cities and immigrants are being blamed, when the blame should be squarely on governments at all levels.

It's simple. A huge number of mostly males from countries that hate the western way of life have been imported into Canada. They bring their tribal and violent ways along with them and refuse to integrate. This is where to the increase in crime is from and along with that we now have illnesses that haven't been seen in the west in decades. You say that Toronto is a diverse city, well diversity is destroying Canada and all western countries. I was born in Toronto but there isn't enough money in the world to make me move back. Good riddance.

Oh as a second note, if any immigrant is watching this and is considering moving here. DON'T. And it's not because your not wanted which by the way is a growing trend with Canadians wanting less immigration. But simply for the fact that Trudeau and his policies for the past 8 years has damaged this nation beyond recognition. There is a good chance you'll end up with a low wage job or pan handling to make money (I've seen such a massive increase in immigrant pan handlers the past few years, it's unsettling). Its going to take at least a decade of reversing and implementing new policies to get Canada back on track to where it was 10 years ago, then take another decade to catch up to where it should be now. So if you do end up here and didn't heed my warning, then at the very least DO NOT VOTE LEFT (Liberal, NDP, Green) because it's these parties especially Liberals that has gotten us to this point.

Muslims should move to Muslim countries because of culture differences. Many western countries with large number of migrants are becoming a major problem because of the culture's differences, some don't have democratic values or believe in rule of laws. There has been an increase of crime a shortage of housing, jobs and is hurting the economies. Some migrants don't adapt to the new life or do they want to. Some western societies or finding these changes hard to except nor do they want to.

Trudeau's push for mass migration is part of the problem, increasing housing demand. Torontonians tend to vote Liberal and NDP, and therein lies the problem. They keep funding NGOs that profit from homelessness and drug addiction, making these things worse. Also, look at who is being let in as citizens: very often people who will be a drain on the system, who increase crime and who are antisemites and potential terrorists (i.e. people from the Middle East and North Africa). Politically incorrect to say this, yes, but that doesn't make it less true.

Back in 2014, I was already seeing Canada becoming increasingly intolerant and Islamophobic, down to governmental level. On the other hand, Muslim communities were supporting Liberals, and I knew this would backfire. It did for me, but now more people are seeing it

People are leaving everywhere to go somewhere increasingly , it seems. Whilst I respect individuals rights to pursue a life in another country , if they are unhappy in their present life...I feel many are missing the point. The majority of countries , face the same problems . It is a global economy and there is no escape from global warming , economic crises and mass immigration, which are common problems in most (if not all) western democracies. Until there are global solutions to deal with these problems , these problems will continue to exist wherever you go.

I understand TTC metro system has been there since at least the mid to late 1970s. Maybe it was great for passengers in the late 1970s but 45 to years later is showing its age without upgrades and increased population and overuse the system is not as good as it once was in the 1970s and 1980s now avery long time ago.

This concerns statistical data in Canada. There is a problem in distinguishing between a worker who has two part-time jobs and a job vacancy. When a job requires prior experience, companies tend to look for workers with the necessary skills from other businesses instead of hiring one. Sometimes, businesses even share a job with their competitors. This looks good on paper as job advertise, but it is similar to creating and buying your businesses from your other businesses to increase your revenue value on the market.

Canada used to be a great country, but they’re becoming the USA of the north - low wages but high cost of living, lack of proper health care (Canadians with resources are doing medical travel for treatments), and increase in violent crimes. Unlike the US, the taxes in Canada are outrageous.

Be living in Toronto for over 20 years. I feel it is getting worse every year.\nCanada is well known for high salary, good benifit and health card. That attracts immigrants from all over the world especially third world countries. \nBut the living cost is insane compare to early 2000s. If government can't handle the housing problem, they should not open border for more immigrants. More ppl squeezed in a city will get rental higher and higher. If you don't have a good job with decent pay, what gonna happen? Sorry, I still love Canada, look at what is going on around the world, and quite fine to be here, Most industrialized countries are expensive to live in, no matter where you’re at today, inflation, high accommodation rates, and food increases, are everywhere. Maybe we’re just lucky, but our healthcare around us is quite good, and when I compare to what people pay in the United States for healthcare premiums for average to decent healthcare. It’s a bargain. Never understand people crying about the weather who immigrate here, for Gosh sakes, you moved to a northern climate. What do you expect? Do you really expect the world climate to change for you and to be more like the southern hemisphere country you came from? Weather doesn’t work that way. Why did people leave their original country if they were just so wonderful in the first place? A ton of political instability where they came from and few jobs.

canada is a good place to live and work. Good people, better integration process, still better wages than most part, i dont think that people are leaving as claimed by many. Its just cost of living has increased and it will only get more harder as world moves into more turmoil

You could apply this to Australia. The reason is the same. They are using high immigration to drive increased GDP, so property demand outstrips supply. Also governement services stay the same, therefore there is less per capita. You see this most if you need emergency healthcare. It's a bit like shrinkflation.

Rising cost of living is a trend especially when inflation is high in North America, the government should be more proactive in increasing the housing supply and creating affordable housing. Canada immigration system is skill based but the country also needs blue collar workers to fill jobs needed in the economy. I read too many articles where doctors work in factories there. The last is job growth, the government needs to invest in infrastructure and create environment for business to come to the country. Yes, US has the same problems but the salaries are higher south of the border. The average Facebook employee receives 800K compensation yearly.

So basically the city counsels work directly to keep estate prices high by blocking all possible construction permits. Sounds like a prosecutor should look into.Why? Because robbing young people of their future just only to allow some old boomers to can increase their real estate value should be criminal.

In all the countries there is a simple rule: the government increase the purchasing power OR they increase the salaries. If nothing of the two get done, you're automatically doomed. No matter where you want to go, especially when you are western-shaped.

Your comments on the real estate mess may be incorrect. Critics believe that over investment by corporations trying to build rental portfolios is responsible, especially since at current prices immigrants are being priced out of the market and so are not responsible for these prices increases. Additionally prices and material inflation has slowed new home construction and new building construction is historically at an all time low relative to demand.

It's happening in UK, France, Germany, Hungary. I think it will get worse as poverty increases.

I live in NYC, and have been to Canada at least four times, but the last time I was there was quite some time ago. I always had a good thought about Canada, because it seems like some of the problems we have in this city, Canada also has in some way. Right now the city is a complete mess; at post pandemic and with a bit of a recession and a noticeable increase in groceries to basic things like cat food and tissues. That's not the biggest problem, it really is the legislation or lack of for people who not care for themselves. Those homeless people are almost not helpable and I don't feel threatened by them, but other people definitely do. The way the government has handled these undocumented migrants is a complete disaster and couldn't have come at a worse time. We have a serious housing crisis as well, and people can end up paying for high rent, for not the best places, but they want to live in a certain location. The migrants are coming in at about 60k in the last two weeks. You see mothers with little kids or babies selling candy all over the trains and it's becoming too much. Many see it as a form of child abuse or exploitation and we do not respect it at all. I think they feel we are weak and will just pay double for something we don't need. At one station today I must have be approached 3 times and interrupted 2 times while using my phone. It's just too much and we already have a lot of immigrants here, so I'm not sure where these people believe they will find any meaningful employment and the cold is coming. I wasn't born here, but came legally as an infant. I think the border situation is a disaster and it's obvious to a lot of people that the government lets things happen that will definitely effect citizens in the next couple of decades. The city is crowded enough and I do not know where this is all going, people do not want undocumented migrants house a few hundred feet from a childrens school. I just don't understand how they let this happen....I guess this is how Biden does things and all the groups that cheered buses pulling in when it first started are dwindling down....they just want them passed on to someone elses responsibility, but wouldn't want them as neighborhors necessarily. It's a lot of hypocrisy here. Canada seems better in some places, and the same in others.

I came to Toronto when I was 11. 43 years later, my wife and I are getting out. We are even looking at getting out of Ontario, possibly Canada. It is impossible to afford to live here, and jobs aren't available if you don't look too diverse... there are tons of empty boarded up stores increasingly in the GTA and it reminds me of parts of Buffalo in the early 80s. It has changed too much for me. Thanks for sharing, we realize we are not alone.

When people want to claim back their towns and cities from Muslims they claim racism. if you look at how islam behaves you get mass migration into ountries where they initially behave, but when their numbers increase to 7%+ they start rioting demanding islamic laws ,islamic schools, courts etc. This is just the beginning. Moving from Canada seems to be a trend on my pages. And totally understand your top 1 reason. But what I don't understand is that Canada actually seems to be be one of the countries in the world that has the lowest inflation rate. Yes almost all inflation rates have increased but Canada doesn't seem to be anywhere close to the worst, more close to the lowest rate.

As a born and raised Canadian of immigrant parents, i have definitely noticed the increasing influx of people leaving this country in recent months. This issue has popping up more in the news, just around this year. Canada needs immigrants, thats true for the long term it will benefit the country, but right now its more of the drawbacks that are manifesting. Accepting More immigrants means that more resources are needed, that means and so many tax paid social services and benefits like housing, healthcare, welfare, citizenship applications, waitlists, wait times, lineups, everything is getting longer and pushed back. I get what everyone feels.
