I have spent significant time in Calgary, Vancouver, and Victoria and was stunned by how much less white racism I encountered than anyplace in the US. \nWe had car trouble out in the country, and white guys stopped to help us out. If it had been in the US I would have been prepared to fight, judging by the way they looked. This woman's story is very subjective and personal. It is just her story.\nI know two retired Black men, both engineers, who spent their careers in Edmonton.

Everyone tells me that white women LOVE them some black men up there lol. Even white guys tell me this.

Tell me is this what you are wanting from our government? White powerful men murdered, stole land, inflicted disease and forced them onto reserves. They kidnapped their children and forced them to go to residential schools. Many Indigenous children never went back home and parents weren't informed if they died. The survivors that returned home have PTSD which still affects their families and community. Treaties are not honoured and they are the most disrespect people in Canada. We see the homes some live in and we wouldn't allow our pets to live there and some don't have clean water to this day. Our government has provided some relief; however, it is a trickle of the help and support they deserve. Many Canadians deem them as drunks, drugged and/or lazy. If we had and have to live like that we would be the same. The government whitewashed our history and don't teach true history. If you knew their true history you would be amazed at how strong many are and they continue to fight with not a lot of support from the rest of us.\n\nSo, tell me is this the help you want from our government?

The unfortunate thing is, a lot of people can't talk about simple truths. And if you try to, you will be called a racist, because facts and statistics are racist apparently. But if you look at the crime statistics database, something like 90% of violent crime is committed by black and Hispanic men between the age of 18 to 45. If you removed that demographic from America, America would be like some future Utopian world where all we knew was peace. So those demographics need to be allowed to be talked about if we want to be able to find solutions and solve those problems. And no, giving reparations would never solve stop those crimes. It's a cultural things that's kept around by bad parenting, poor education, and their surroundings. Sweden is a perfect example where they had nearly 0 crime until they started letting in black refugees from all over. Grape, robbery, and assaults all went up by not 20, 30, 40, 50%. Not even 100%. Those crimes went up by like 400% or more. Women who had lived there their whole lives now had to walk the streets in fear. White men had to now be worried about getting assaulted or stabbed by immigrants who were hitting on his girlfriend in clubs. Or watch what he said back to a refugee who mouthed off to him trying to start shit. They are completely disrespectful and unappreciative of being allowed to live there and be given government assistance. This is how people become prejudice. They SEE how other cultures act and treat them, and they don't want anything to do with them because they simply fear for our safety.

The income difference based on skin color is based on level of education and jobs chosen, NOT some skin color. This is why if you break down the income difference based on the countries of origin, black immigrants from countries with high education levels such as ones from Nigeria have a higher average income compared to the rest of the population, even though their skin is as dark as any black person. \n2. I suggest you visit Richmond BC, Surrey BC, or Vancouver Downtown, so many successful Asian and brown people there. In fact, white people are moving to suburbs since asian immigrants are buying up expensive realestate in big cities like Vancouver and Toronto. Still RaCiSM? \n3. Whites (especially white males) are the only group in Canada that can be openly discriminated against in hiring and school applications, as diversity quotas require a minimal number of women and non-whites to be chosen, over whites (and men)who may meet the criteria. Everyone needs to be treated equally, and solely based on their abilities and qualifications. \n\nAnyone with a half a brain can see that it is better to be a non-white person in Canada right now than other way around. And I am an Asian myself saying this.

I am an older white trans woman that prefers to date black men as I just find them more attractive. Here it comes the proverbial but, I sometimes find it hard to not be prejudice. I hate myself for that, but I need to be honest with myself or I could never change to be a better person. That is something I strive for everyday. I think we need to come close to each as one humanity. We should at least talk and explore those all different skin colors men and women. Not all of them are bad. Amusing white people are underrepresented considering racism. \n\nI'm white living in Vancouver and experience racism against me many times. \n\n1. Walking in Crystal Mall...get out of our country (Asian group of men to me)\n2. Walk into an indian store for a pop....worker grabs me, moves me ahead of 10 or so other shoppers in line...the point is to get me out of the store. \n\n3. And on and on and on...

Sooner or later ur white mens become minors in their own country

I just find the film industry so frustrating. As a woman I just feel that it's a white male dominated industry. The Oscars just reinforced my consistent frustration. Films are predominantly aimed at white men, big block busters that make maximum profit, celebrating the male archetype. Men review films, men analyse the profit made and then decide more films for men need to be made. I feel so under-represented in films and I can see how much worse this is cross culturally. I was talking to a student of mine who has gone on to do film making at uni and raised this with him after some discussions on our favourite films. He hadn't really thought about the need of different audiences to see films that reflect their own backgrounds, ideologies etc. Hopefully the new generation of film makers will bring with them a more authentic and fresh approach to film making.

Psychology student here. In the interest of accurate information, I would like to point out some flaws I find with some of the studies in this documentary and question the conclusions reached. I understand that CBC Marketplace are not personality psychologists and therefore cannot be expected to produce the same quality of work as a scientist. However, I think it is worthwhile to think critically about the information in the media that we consume. I am also open to anyone who wants to engage in debating the contents of this documentary.\n\n\nThe following are some notes I took while watching the documentary outlining the individual hypotheses of the studies I think are flawed and descriptions of their respective accompanying errors. \n\n\nThere are three possible research questions, and thereby dependent variables, being answered by the apartment hunting studies.\n1. If there is no discrimination between the white man and the first-nations man, then they should get equal treatment, including quotes and availability, when apartment hunting. \na. Could the gender of the landlord be a confounding variable (perhaps men are more discriminatory than women)? \n \n2. If there is no discrimination between the white man and the first-nations man between Toronto, Montreal, Regina, and Victoria, then they should get equal treatment, including quotes and availability, when apartment hunting. \na. Could total apartments visited be a confounding variable? (4 in Toronto, 3 in Montreal, Regina, and Victoria) \nb. Could the gender of the landlord be a confounding variable (perhaps men are more discriminatory than women)? \nc. They only showed the black man apartment hunting in some of the trials. I am considering him out of the study for consistency purposes. The first-nations man is the only one who got unfair treatment in the footage of apartment hunting. \n \n3. Possible hypothesis: If male landlords/agents are more discriminatory than female landlords/agents, then the white man and the first-nations man will get different treatment at different Canadian apartments in equally diverse cities. \na. Don’t know all the information about the genders of the landlords/agents, not all the footage is shown, but the ones where they get ripped off are male. The others shown are female. The remaining interactions are not shown.\n\n\nThere are also some factors that may have influenced the racial bias survey and, in my estimation, rendered it scientifically unreliable.\n\n\n1. The bias survey and accompanying tests at the CBC attributed the differences between the studies to unconscious racism. What if it was just due to familiarity with certain racial groups over others? \na. The black participants had no bias between European-American and African Americans, supposedly indicating no racism, while the white and first-nations participants did, supposedly indicating racism. Is it possible that another interpretation of this result is that bias is a function of familiarity: that we are comfortable with the majority demographic in the geographical location we live in, as well as our own kind. Therefore, the black guys are less biased against black people due to being both black and living in a white majority demographic? \nb. The participants took the survey knowing the objectives of the researchers was to study racial discrimination. They might have influenced the answers they gave \nc. Whether the participants agreed with identity politics or not was a confounding factor that was not controlled . You can only be racially unbiased biased if you think that racial identity is a means of accurately viewing the world. People who do not believe in the existence of identity politics may answer the questions quite differently, which could be a different reason for the results.\nd. I took the study myself. The words that participants were required to match were a mix of adjectives and nouns. It is known within psychology that nouns have higher levels of imagery. This was not properly controlled and therefore is another confounding variable. \n \nAll the other studies looked fine to me. I welcome any discussion on my observations.

I am Living in Ottawa I am white, I lived here my whole life and now I am a minority I deal with different races all the time and I do feel that I am being pushed out of my country different ethnicities treat me with disrespect I was growing up with Canadian culture of respecting everyone around you but I fine with all these different cultures coming in I’m losing my Canadian identity and it is a lot for me to hold strong onto the values as of what the Canadian is and I’m a fourth generation Canadian I see what’s happening to our veterans I visit my grandfather every other week and I see all the different nationalities that are PSW‘s and nurses And I really mean no offence but we have a different level of respect we have a different way of talking and these different nationalities coming in they all click together and some of them they treat the men who built this country with such disrespect please listen to meand I’m really not Trying racially profile this is been happening for the last 15 years and I’m not being silent about it Canada is freedom of speech Canada is being strong enough to speak up I mean this from the bottom of my heart if you’re coming into my country that my grand parents built for me and my children can you please give my children the opportunity that you were now taking from them and I see how they treat our veterans I see how difficult it is for seniors that didn’t have a placement in our homeless I see that all of our government funding is now going to people that are now immigrating into Canada and they’re being able to start up small businesses have four bedroom townhomes in their children to schools and drive them and fancy SUVs can you look around us and see somebody sold Canada

There’s lots of white men these days that wish there was more true blind recruitment and hiring. These Marketplace studies were designed to prove racism against non whites. Everyone discriminates against people not like them unless motivated to discriminate based on other criteria.

As a minority I’ve noticed that White women have it way better than white men... so why do we treat white women as minority’s under the law as if they deal with the same things as blacks or Hispanics Indians etc in America

One night in Chicago a friend and myself were paid to stand at the door of an art gallery during the opening party. It was in a Hispanic neighborhood. When the police inevitably arrived, they began to question the three well dressed men who had just left the gallery (two Mexican one Black).\nI approach in my jeans and t-shirt and quickly defused the situation.\nIf you don't understand what white privilege is, you should get out more.

Problem with whites everywhere is that they don't want to have children. They have a lot of money and time but they want to use their money for enjoyment and their time for tourism. Moving to Vancouver was a great experience tbh, I'm of nigerian heritage but was born in Finchley, North London...\nCanadians are friendly and extremely welcoming ( Coming from the UK i found this so off-putting ) lol. Ironically its non-white Canadians i had funny experiences with.... from dating to renting its weird\n\n\nAsians under 27 always asking some crazy questions ( Are you an NBA player ) lol it's cute at first but after a while when little koreans walk up to me talking about ( You look like will smith ) it makes you think... To be fair these are not inherent negatives, But asian canadians alone did treat me weird i found, Indian girls i met all wanted to be with me but where also very ashamed to say so or let their family know, but thats a cultural thing so i understood.\n\n\n Of all the demographics White canadian and native men where the most welcoming and open to me, in my experience.. White women of-course where cool too but that does not really count, especially as a good looking black guy with an accent LOOL you know how that goes!! Needless to say, i did what she said and It worked the asian lady asked me to come get the keys later that day. Yes I ran into racial profiling when I wanted to ask why CBC is biased and won't report fairly. Being white and male, I was told that my opinion is invalid, and in spite of the taxes I pay for their wages, I don't have any say. Moreover, because I am male, CBC's supreme leader Trudeau has dictated I am not allowed any sort of platform. This is an important issue! Why do you think these sterotypes are so prevalent CBC? Crime statistics? Day to day crime by certain groups? CBC hates the question why because it conflicts with their bias as mandated by identity politics. Once I can walk through any place in Canada and not simply see, with my own eyes, the obvious differences between people based on color, or am treated like a direct decendant of slave owners by our state run media, maybe then the forty-thousand years worth of tribal cues ingrained in me will change. Are there really no examples of white men changing the narrative? No exmples you can provide for us devils to follow? No studies on private donors who are trying to help? Maybe it's time for me to stop, as there is absolutely no recognition of my attempts to make changes. The withdrawl of financial support is now my protest against your bias. Don't ever ask a white person if there is racism in their town, city, country, why? Because they are not targeted so how would they know? I used to trip on people watching me when I was in stores, however today @ 53 I don't care, all I ever say is if they ever grab me then I will take action, until then I'll shop till I drop! The racism that goes on in the workplace as well as rentals will probably never end because some white people just don't want(minorities)around, and since there is no law on the books that says they have to then it will never change. The late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said that the Government could never make a law to govern the hearts of men, maybe it's because King knew back then that even though the majority of us might want change, there are still a lot of people who would not change simply because they don't know anything else, so anything short of an act of GOD they probably still would never make them change, because you can't force people to obey a law that in their hearts they feel is wrong!!!

I don't think they should be uncomfortable with those results. Most people lean toward what they are surrounded by...and depending on where black people are located, they are surrounded by white people in person and/or in media. Our concepts of safe, pleasant, and beauty are manipulated the same as everyone else where we are. That's why you get little white girls who prefer white dolls...and you get little black girls who prefer white dolls... I'm not surprised that the black men had no preference. I also wouldn't be surprised if they had preferred Europeans.

This is what I think. Do your test with white people in Indian reservations, in Muslim communities, and black communities. Then we can compare racism. I am sick of white people being branded racial without any comparison in reverse. My most racial experience was on an Indian reservation where both white and Indian were suppose to be christians at a prayer meeting. As you can guess I am mostly white. Plus, Do not blame companies who are targeted by a specific group of people. As a manager of a jewelry store years back, i had a great distaste of young men or boys, under 20. Why because I was targeted for gold chains, by them. Especially when they wore hoodies. Do not target whites only for racialism.

I am a white English woman. Many year's ago I was walking down the street dressed in jeans and a shirt. A group of Muslim men approached me and surrounded me. They started shouting in my face that I should cover myself up and they spat on me! I was left very badly shaken and in tears!

Why do brown people keep flocking to white people countries? Why don’t they immigrate to China or Africa? It’s almost like, idk, white men make the best societies.

The most racism I experienced in school was from teachers. Its the most profound kind of racism, because they are authority figures. The thing is when your fellow students display racism it doesn't have the same gravity as it does when your teacher does it because you know your teacher does know better but they truly believe it.In University, I actually had a teacher give a lesson that was so tinged with racism that it really broke me down, because what I've come to realize is that so many people think that being racist is saying actual racist words and don't understand that perpetuating stereotypes are the most prevalent forms of racism.  It is demoralizing because it feels like a losing battle when your teacher is perpetuating racially disparaging ideas to an entire class, and you think about how many people are going to be influenced by that idea and in turn perpetuate it. I realized that this teacher really insidiously believed what she was saying was true, but that it just wasn't politically correct to say it. The main principle of white privilege is that white people get to be individuals but people of colour get grouped together by the most base stereotype of their race.  I don't think Black-focused schools are the solution. I think more integrated schools with diverse populations of students and teachers are the solution.\n Then there are concrete issues of race, space and the law. For example when you come to realize that carding continues in Toronto, and that most residents do not care that young Black men are being harassed and treated like criminals by the police because it does not affect their community, it makes you wonder if people are only inclined to feel empathy for those who look like them.
