I mean really, if trump actually cared about drugs and illegal immigrants crossing our borders, why wouldn’t he actually try to work with Canada and Mexico instead of jumping straight to this? I mean sure, you could argue that Canada and Mexico didn’t help curb that stuff during bidens tenure. But this just seems like an unnecessary escalation that doesn’t even directly address the border issues. It’s all b.s.

Trump doesn't accept calls from Canada ofc because this is not about border security nor the 1% fentanyl going into the US. It is about being hawkish and potentially annexation of Canada in the far future. \nThese tariffs make way more sense against Mexico, considering the amount of border issues and fentanyl infiltrating in the US, but tariffs against Canada is just BS.

Yea I don’t believe it’s the fentanyl that’s the issue Trump has, I believe it’s the business with China. China is using the benefit of both of these countries free trade agreement and Trump is punishing Canada and Mexico for it.

A lot of us Americans remember learning about the tariff wars in history class that ended up in deciding fair trade was the better route. I fear we’re about to learn the same lesson again…\n\nAs far as the drug trade goes apparently the GOV doesn’t spend enough time on the internet because the cartels are no longer just in Mexico they’re in the USA and in Canada. They have learned the Canadian border is a lot easier to cross and they can get into BC pretty easily due to relaxed immigration policies In Canada.. they probably don’t actually know where the drugs are coming from or where they’re being manufactured entirely. The cartels are probably a step ahead of them at the moment. \n\nI can’t believe the auto industry lobbyists were not instructed to go full send on the detriment of the opposite position taken from the NAFTA. The only thing I can see is auto sales are slumping and maybe they can blame this on the tariff policy for massive restructuring. \n\nI kind of understand wanting to negotiate with Mexico because they probably buy less American goods than Americans buy Mexican goods (drugs excluding) but I’m guessing Canada is a better customer of American goods than Americans are of Canadian goods. Why would you want to upset a good partner, customer, and ally!? It’s Beyond my comprehension…. If Trump was really smart he’d convince some factories to actually invest in Mexico with cooperation from the Mexican government investing in efficient transportation from the manufacturing sectors to the American border and the coasts for distribution. This would likely really help their economy and change the whole dynamic of all the things Trump has issues with. Fix it at the source not try to treat the symptoms.

And how exactly were Canada and Mexico supposed to address those issues? Trump knows those countries can’t resolve them on demand. So what is Trump’s endgame here?

Issue is China. Rather than Punishing China, Trump got mad at the number shown. Infact all countries must impose 100% tariff on china. Atleast US, Canada, EU must cooperate between themselves to impose them on china. Any Product made in china must carry 100% tariff until china floats its currency.

However, America has provided Canada with favorable trading relations and high-cost subsidies in the form of military and territorial security for decades. That clearly was a slap in the face and wasn't very smart! You had to figure some American president would ultimately say enough!\n\nAmerica has supported, defended, and offset the national defense costs of European nations for over seventy years, while EU countries and their leaders have routinely mocked and ridiculed Americans. Is it really classy to slap the face of someone who protects and supports you and your quality of life? No, it's not! Tariffs on EU products are likely coming soon, and reduced defensive support for Europe means they will have to pay more taxes for their defense and goods.

Voters also wanted a bipartisan immigration bill, but Trump and the Republicans stopped it so he could use the issue to his advantage in the campaign. That’s how much Trump and the Republicans care about the border problem. I will never vote Republican again,

Trump's rationale of the border security issue to Canada is totally false as less than 1 percent of drugs and illegals come through Canada. Trump is just being a bully to try to get his way on tariffs for what he thinks is an economic decision to improve the USA. Unfortunately he is again wrong as Americans and Canadians will pay a lot more for goods and Trump will cause more inflation, ruin companies and many job losses across both nations.

Trump warned that if Canada retaliated then Trump will up the tariffs so 25% just became 50%.. Trumps issue is 1) Trade deficit. 2) NATO slackers ... Canada is only 1.8% then finally 3) Border issues

There is no room in the military for this BS. I served 10 years and this BS is nothing more than a huge distraction. You have people who were going in just to get the operations. They spend 4 years in the military changing gender on tax payers dime. Out of the whole 4 years they may be deployable for about 6 months and that ain't all at the same time. When I was in this stuff was not an issue! Seeing how the US is an unreliable economic partner, that threatens tarriffs over every little dispute, Columbia will most probably start seriously looking into establishing more reliable economic outlets, like China or even Europe for that matter. Border control and immigration are absolutely a major issue that needs to be addressed. For instance, Canada should have been on top of border control a long time ago. Trump is using military aircraft to deport immigrants. That is the issue. If they sent them on commercial flights like it has been done for years, there wouldn't be a problem. Countries protect their sovereignty.
