I am an American and I am angry that the president did this! I grew up in North Dakota and Canadians were strongly affirmed and appreciated at the time I was living there. I am Canadian, and I want to speak to the USA, as a concerned citizen who valued the relationship that we once had between our two countries: please realize that we do NOT want to declare this as any form of “attack”, that these are solely defensive measures against your current administration’s lack of respect towards us as a people and as a country. \n\nPlease rest assured that we KNOW that not all of you voted for Trump, that there are those of you who realize what your current president is truly doing and do not support it. Even the greatest professional boxers know the difference of being humble and kind when there advisory is in trouble. \nFor the first time in the history of your country you have a bully, narcissist and pathological liar, who is vulgar and unpolished as a man, father and as the President of your nation.\nI have seen our own Canadian leaders, make mistakes, stumble and fail, however they displayed grace and admitted to their shortcomings.\nI have never seen a world leader be obsessed with things such as plastic straws, pennies, flushing toilets, Hannibal Lecter, Arnold Palmer's manhood, a leader who's completely obsessed with selling souvenir and bubbles while his citizens are homeless, hungry, jobless, with runaway inflation so that something as simple as a dozen eggs are now a luxury item. \n\nYou have a president who spends millions of dollars so that he can play golf at one of his own properties, meanwhile his country is neglected. \nA brief look at his past record the pandemic under his watchful eye would have you drink bleach as a cure as many died and billionaires increased their combined wealth by trillions of dollars while the middle class and poor suffered. \nThe opioid crisis was settled under his watch which let Purdue Pharma and the Sackler family avoid jail time for committing the death and destruction of millions of lives in America. Yet Donald Trump is obsessed with the drug cartels in other countries yet he overlooks those terrorist in his own country. Is it because they are billionaires and potential cronies of his?\nRather than be completely obsessed with tariffs and creating the next disaster with his Trump Gaza Holocaust Resort, Your leader could be looking at fixing the country's infrastructure of roads, brides, tunnels, ensuring a healthy supply of drinking water, rail, housing for the homeless, affordable health care, affordable education, etc.\n\nDonald Trump is surrounded by his clowns is not just making a mockery of your country but is leading you into a very dark hole. \nThe shame and humiliation that Donald Trump has brought to your country since his inauguration will take years to correct if he is stopped now. I used to think that the idea that Trump is a Russian asset was just a conspiracy theory. I am not sure of that now as how else to you explain why Trump is doing everything he can to undermine the USA? Why else would you cause a breech between the US and our allies Canada and Mexico? Why else would he destroy the infrastructure of our country through Musk and Doge? Why else would you stop all aid to Ukraine? Why would you stop cyber operations targeting Russia? Why would he set up an operation to humiliate the leader of an allied country fighting for its life against Russian aggression? Why would you send your vice president to Germany and have him insult our allies and not meet with the leadership of the country but rather meet with the essentially neo-Nazi Alternative for Germany? None of this--and many other actions--makes sense unless you begin to understand that Trump is actively trying to weaken our country to the benefit of the Russians. I know it is hard to believe but I can find no other explanation.

As a child, I remember my sister-in-law, who lived under the regime of Hitler, explain to me the horrors that occurred in their country by this tyrant. The President of the United States is trying to destroy America economically in my opinion. Don’t take it personal Canada. I can't make sense of the way that Trump and his lapdogs are acting. Trump is not my president and he doesn't speak for me. Great, unambiguous words by the Canadian president! But one of his remarks stood out: he said that the tyrants want to divide us. He is correct, of course. But the implications are profound! This means that Trudeau himself is measuring his words and deliberately using diplomatic language. He even says that Trump is “intelligent”, which only plays into the imbecile’s unfortunate NPD psychology! The unwillingness to stand strong against American tyranny is harming democracy worldwide! Force Trump to declare a side! And make him choose Putin or democracy NOW!! If you fail to do that, you are taking the path of accommodation, and if Trump is really a tyrant (which he surely is, because of MANY evidences!!), democratic countries weaken their position by not standing strong NOW. If Europe and Canada and Mexico ban Tesla imports and place 50% tariffs on tens of billions of dollars of American products, what would happen? Are these countries AFRAID of the United States? This is not the time for fear! This is the time for courage! Boycott!!!

Tariffs on Canada would likely reduce real gross domestic product to zero in 2025 if implemented beyond a year and lead to a 2% contraction in 2026 with a peak unemployment rate of more than 8%. Trump told Canada if you did TWO THINGS, there would be no tariffs on Canada. One, stop illegal immigrants from pouring into the USA from Canada. Two, stop illegal drugs from coming into the USA from Canada. Did Trudeau comply with President Trump's request? If so, there must be a lack of communication to verify what has transpired. If not, then Trump imposed tariffs for lack of compliance. Now, if Canada has already complied yet the Trump admin imposed tariffs anyway, then that is a slap in the face to our neighbors to the north and the American people should be outraged and let Trump know it.

Stop insulting our President! We are no longer woke communist like Trudeau and the EU, and we are focusing on us, as the world does not appreciate all we do and we are far from perfect here. President Trump is one of the great Presidents that made America and Canada so successful in the past, and all these socialist a$$bags can do is cry and get in the way of progress! We are the superpower of the world for a reason and you’re on the wrong path my Canadian friends! Watch you ? mouth long story short!

I called the Canadian embassy in Washington DC this morning. I told them as an American citizen. It saddens me and breaks my heart that we are treating our allies with such disrespect. I do not stand with the United States government and their treatment of our allies. I also called the Mexican embassy and told them the same thing. I didn’t announce Trump in his cabinet and what they’re doing to our economy that we have worked so hard to resurrect again after he was president last time. I, urge every person who does not agree with what is going on to call the Canadian and the Mexican embassies and just let them know that we stand in solidarity with them and against our government here!

America is no longer a reputable country. You're in the lap of Putin, whether you want to acknowledge it or not. THAT is what this is about. Trump is OBVIOUSLY a Russian asset. I am still at a loss and feel very unsettled that Donald Trump was elected president. His presidency is marked by retaliation and actions that are ego boosting for him. The elites got what they want but doesn't mean it will last they talk about exposing corruption but yet are doing some pretty corrupt things why do we only get 2 choices for a president and lesser of two evils why don't we pick someone with morals and that have the best interest for our country and people not just the rich cause I've been struggling before during and after trump maybe we need new congress and stop this dumbass blame game of pointing fingers when dems and rep come together we can be unstoppable why are people so stupid and selfish like we have it easier than most country's last I knew we don't eat cats or dogs so that tells me are economy not as bad as other places just seems like the rich are losing and this will help them stay rich. I don't like Biden or trump but my god does no one notice the segregation that's pushing us apart? we were all for Ukraine before and now plp wanna act differently without facts or knowledge kids family's they are dying cause putin is a prime example of a dictator.... praying and hoping we come together to fix this and show our next generation on what not to do.

I wish Trudeau was our president. I hate what is happening in the U.S. because of Trump and his minions. Putin must be gleeful at the destruction of the U.S. and all of the favors that Trump has given to him. The American people do not want this horror show that Trump and Musk has orchestrated. The Trump cult is bringing the downfall of America in the world. We are no longer the 'home of the free and the brave', and Trump is no longer the 'leader of the free world'. Kudos to Trudeau for giving an elegant speech. I did not vote for Trump, aka Felon #47, for obvious reasons. He is a racist, unfit for the office and a damn FELON! It appears all of our allies have strong leaders. But the not the USA. We have a felon for the President that cannot form a complete sentence; unless he is talking about hate. Trump needs to resign.

He’s and American president for America and if any non Americans wanna take issue with that. Then come get your citizenship and vote for it, but until then, stop crying about what America is doing and focus on your own country. Who knows, if you do your own country might actually be notable enough for you to understand my frustrations :)

As an individual Japanese, I cannot stand the current US president and vice president. I demand an impeachment trial. In order to protect America and the American people, these two people who do not call Russia a dictatorship, call Ukraine a dictatorship, and refuse to use Russia's frozen assets should be impeached. They say such things to China, but in reality they are lenient, and it is impossible that they treat Canada and Mexico worse than China. Please. American people, please do not accept dictatorship.

I'm European and I really can't understand how you can make an economic trade war with an ally like Canada, a close and so friendly neighbor.... A dumb decision not only for the W Post... And all of this will end up heavily impacting Americans as well, also because besides Canada there is Mexico, China and the whole of Europe. In such a war there are no winners....
