I’m not a fan of Trudeau but he speaks in a calm rational manner. He is polite but firm. I’m an American and although I agree with some of Trumps ideas, being rude and not thinking things through before acting, is inexcusable. We have enemies all over the world and now we have even turned our friends against us. The drug problem is an American problem, not Canada or Mexico. We can’t keep guns from entering Mexico, arming the cartels, how can we expect the Mexican government to keep drugs out of America?

Aussie here. We are so sickened watching what’s going on in the US. It’s terrifying how fast Trump has turned against his allies. Canada, we Aussies love you and support you! Thank you for standing strong. To our American friends, keep fighting, keep protesting!

Trudeau is serving the final moments of his last term, but his approval ratings shot up since the Trump presidency started. Trump genuinely such a crappy leader than other leaders with approval ratings in the dirt are gaining support for going against him. As an American, it’s damn amazing. I hope the next PM of Canada keeps up the same energy and doesn’t concede to the US. Things won’t get better until the world sticks it to us, because the world turning their backs on us is the only thing that’ll get through the thick skulls of anyone who still supports Trump.

As a Canadian I dislike the tarrifs and think they are harmful on both sides. What is keeping me awake at night is what we all fear is truly behind this. A plan to weaken Canada so that the US teamed up with Russia can take what they want from us just as they are trying to do to Ukraine. Elbows up Canada! ??

The more I read the comments of different news articles, the more I realize that we as a world, and a species, want to be united as friends, hand in hand but our leaders are trying to keep us divided. I hope we make it through the next few years alive. And when this nightmare is over, I look forward to the world coming together, be they people of Russia, Ukraine, Mexico, Canada, and America.

Congratulations Mr. Trudeau, you finally sound like our Prime Minister should. Now start making this country self sufficient so we don't have to rely on anyone. No more selling off our Crown corporations our land and other businesses to foreign countries. Keep Canada Canadian and give jobs to born Canadians first. Stock pile our oil and gas for our use and lower the prices of these things so that transportation cost make things easier for business and personal enjoyment. Don't tax the farmer so that they can supply food to everyone cheaper. We should not be struggling in this country which has all the natural resources . The unnatural population growth has put a strain on the whole system and in some cases put us in danger too. The crime rate has increased in large part to your lax immigration system. All the businesses increased the prices of everything due to this unnatural population growth. Supply and demand is not working the way it is supposed to anymore. In a normal household we make plans and prepare for changes. You just said ok, let's bring people here and forgot about the preparations. Infrastructure first man. If your going to bring half a million people over here, build the houses first bro. Nobody in Canada should be homeless which is another result of poor preparation. The housing prices and everything else went through the roof in large part due to the unnatural population growth. Anyway, think first before you act just like in a private home. We know that our president is a frigging idiot, but the fact he *noticeably* drops his language grade level when “talking directly to” Trump and says “we’ve done *big things*” twice and calls him a “very smart guy” and pulls it into a schoolyard metaphor of “two friends fighting.”\n\nI couldn’t wrap my head around how we got saddled with this joke of a human in 2016. \nCouldn’t fathom how it was close in 2020.\nWant to vomit every day that we allowed this deep, unchecked harm to befall us, our allies, and the entire world. \n\nI keep wanting to just wake up.\nI feel so insane that we seem to have literally no power to stop this, and that the *entirety* of the GOP is completely fine with this. As a Finnish guy living in Germany I am so glad to hear PM Mr Trudeau´s speech. There are mighty many people around the world who respect and love each other, and try to keep to do so. Chapeau Canadians!! And, the EU is not to screw the US, it never was.

Remember when this same fellow froze protesters bank accounts and began collecting peoples weapons? Yet, he has the gull to talk about dictators. Trump actually wants to avoid WWIII and I hope what his administration does will bring an end to the war. Though, I do agree he should be more tough on Putin. That being said, I do agree that the crossings from Canada are not nearly as significant as compared to our southern border. It would be nice to see more from Canada in their investments to secure the border and stop crossings, cartel movements, and drug operations. The US has spent more than 409 billion since 2003 on such operations. Regardless, I feel for you Canadians and it sucks that it has come to this and I hope we keep strong relations in the future. Hopefully we can come to a fair deal soon. Mexico and China are the big players that do not do nearly enough to prevent these crimes. In fact, the Mexican government helps the cartels by not trying to stop them. China's lack of regulation on the ingredients to make fentanyl contribute to a large extent to this tragedy as well.

As a child, I remember my sister-in-law, who lived under the regime of Hitler, explain to me the horrors that occurred in their country by this tyrant. More than 800 lbs of fentanyl was seized by the CBSA crossing from the US into Canada last year and how about the illegal guns you keep smuggling into Canada?\n\nIf Canada has to do the job of your border agents, shouldn't the US need to do the job of ours? When smugglers are entering the US, it's US border agents, not Canadian or American that those smugglers meet. When crossing from the US to Canada, it's CBSA agents they meet, not US. So maybe we need to reverse that, or combine border agencies and work together??? Nah, that wouldn't work for tRump, because after all, it isn't about Fentanyl at all.

Im uk, canadian cousins, best people on the planet. Widely regarded as just being the nicest country on the planet, from france and england, they have taken the best of both, determination and grit but always keeping things polite. The most reliable dependinal country ever. The us have had the luckiest neighbours on the planet. And no 1 of worlwide neighbours. For trump/elon to screw both ukraine and canada in the same week. Only person who could have wanted that more is putin.

Presumably the whole point of tariffs on Canada is to raise revenues to cover the tax cuts for the oligarchs that he hopes will keep his or his family permanently in power. From that point of view it makes sense to put the tariffs on the biggest trade partners. The tax breaks the oligarchs get will allow them to buy up and control the media on his behalf. Nothing to do with fentanyl. That's just a lie that US citizens are stupid enough to swallow.

Thank you Prime Minister for speaking the truth and speaking directly to American citizens. Many of us in America continue to support our friends and allies and Canada is certainly our strongest. The biggest problem with Trump is he keeps moving the goal posts. His trade war will weaken both countries.

Maybe he should discuss the constant duty fees and border crossing fees for anything shipped from Canada to the USA that have been constantly rising for years; fees that his very own government sets. Maybe he should talk about Canada demanding that anyone that sells anything foodwise to anyone in Canada from the USA has to have a special Safe Food For Canadians Food License or the goods being shipped will be rejected at the US owners cost, seized by the border and held in storage at the US owners cost, and destroyed and billed to the US owner. A license that no one actually needs considering other legal and ethical controls are in place to prevent unsafe foods from crossing the border, but Canada reserves the right to make us pay for one or we suffer consequences. Maybe he should discuss how they left their borders open to migrants, making it much easier for criminal migrants to get into the US. Maybe he should understand that the US has always been bleeding money to Canada on a trade level for about half a century with it getting much worse in the last decade because Canada's government are greedy. Before any of you come at me, keep in mind I work in the food ingredient industry as an order processing, logistics and customs & border crossing and have done so for 15 years. These tariffs were a long time coming and if any of you are on the inside of trade in the manner I am, then you know what I'm saying is true. The US is constantly paying additional tariffs by way of duty fees, customs fees, certain applied taxes (like there is literally a blueberry tax to ship US grown blueberries into Canada to prevent US blueberries from taking over the Canadian blueberry market). The blueberry tax is about 25cents per lb. which drives the price per lb. up for the seller and buyer. You wanna know why Food costs so much? All of the above with a huge side helping of GREED.

He's not trying to keep Americans safe. He's threatening us all.

He put the 25 tariffs because of Fentanyl and for the last four years Canda has allowed this drug to be trafficked and he allowed illegals to flow into our country for the last 4rs. \nRespect. If you had any respect for our country, you would not put our country in debt to keep Canada going . Stealing my tax dollars. If you respected us, you would deal with America as an honest broker.\nAmericans flip the bill for ungrateful countries who have no respect for America. It stops here.

This is very scary. Again, what Trump is doing makes no sense - there is no economic or political sense to it. So what is he doing it for ?? To reduce our trade deficit? We have a huge deficit with Canada because we import so much oil from them, which our refiners require. On top of that we get Canadian oil for first cheap when compared to the global price mark for oil. This keeps US petroleum prices LOW! So okay if this is the issue, why not just find ways to improve the economics of U.S. oil production instead of smacking all Canadian imports with a 25% hammer ??? He has ulterior motives and it’s to weaken the American spirit and sell what he has on American to Russia. And our Congress isn’t doing anything !!!

It starts to look like Trump is on pupose isolating the US so he can roll it up in a compleet dictatorship that nobody will stop him to do so. Like Putin creating rule by the super rich which are no more than pupets he keeps on a string.

We know why HE is doing this. He is pushing an imperialistic agenda, so he can be like those he admires. He's hoping that Canada will bend at the knee and give in so that he can claim Canada as a 51st state. But guess what? That won't happen. He's just doing himself and his country harm. He doesn't care about you, or me, or us as two countries that have always worked together. But we are setting up border security to keep American drugs, and weapons, and illegal migrants from coming into Canada. We're going to have to survive by reverting our trade to elsewhere, to depend on ourselves, to boycott U.S. products. We may be nice, but we are also tough. We love our society, our democracy, and our benefits. We won't give that up. Growing up, I lived in South Western Ontario, I used to go back and forth from Canada to the U.S. with no issues. Now, I'm sad to say, I won't ever be going to the U.S. again. Let's all hope for a brighter future for both countries.
