Wow.. it is sad to depart a place where you've grown up in and call home. VERY SCARY but exciting at the same time. Our family had to leave and reset our lives over 2 generations due to communism and really didn't have a choice. Glad you have the COURAGE/fortitude to commit to move and for the opportunity of choice. I understand how daunting it can be but you have made the hardest decision now. My heart extends to you and wish you the safest journey in spirit, travels and resettlement. \nI am in Australia and grateful for all the opportunities it has provided us but it has become very expensive but not as bad as the US. I have a similar background as I immigrated to Canada when I was 6 years old. I haven't travelled across 50 countries like Alina but I'm well travelled and Canada is still, in my opinion, the best country in the world. Besides the strong passport and political stability Alina mentioned, Canadians also benefit from the great healthcare system, environmental protections, capital markets, educational system, labour standards, etc. This country has afforded me a wonderful career that allowed me to build wealth while giving me substantial financial flexibility and freedoms. Canada is not perfect but I'm so grateful to my parents for moving us here.

I am a Serbian and Canadian living in Canada for the last 24 years. I love \nthis country I respect this country but my God is so much different than it used to be or it is me. This summer I went with my kids and wife to 6 different countries in Europe Eastern Europe and Central and have seen 2 alcoholic then I come to Canada I see thousands of drug addicts on the street. everything is overpriced ppl do not enjoy in here. When I came in 2000 Serbian economy was low due to the war now it is better and Canadian economy is worse so the gap is very small. you need to make 6000$ to live just ok and I do live well but there is always but. I call it a pressure cooker, I wish all Canadian travel abroad a bit just to realize that they were lied too and that there's a lot of bs. I can give you an example: Condo in Belgrade same size property tax is 200$ per year condo in Qc Gatineau 2500$ plus condo fees 400$ per month basically 7000$ wasted for what? no dr wholes on the street broken system. It will be for sale. I agree paying taxes on my house where I live but for rental property when you deduct all the expenses you invested so much money without any profit. the one that works and the one that scams the system make the same amount of money and we live approx the same. something is wrong there. I will live for many years to come but definitely not spending my whole life here due to many circumstances and expenses. Family values are getting killed and I have issues with that. The more I was pushed to change the more I went to church and believed in old fashioned traditional values. As you said I will always be grateful for what I made but working hard for two jobs in the last 20 years I would make that somewhere else too. Canada has changed too much since I came that's for sure. What triggers me the most fake approach when ppl say I make 100k wow then you didn't get that, that is only on the pay stub. how much did you get 50k that is the real money then you need to add deductions house tax this tax, sewage, water it comes less and less and then you realize that in reality you make more but you spend so much more with less quality of life. who cares how much you make the question is how do you live with the amount that you make.?

I wish i had the means to move to other country without worrying my finances. Although, i am grateful that i still have a job (but quite a stressful job), I felt that i am stuck in a rat race, and it seemed like the future is bleak.

Well, I am leaving, yes. Although I am very grateful with Germany, I work in IT, and I don't hold a diploma, but I have more than 20 years of experience in the field, I always been offered jobs beneath my experience, only because of a paper. I am Italian and was very enthusiastic when I arrive 4 years ago, but the way I was treated was mostly bad, that led me not wanting to study the language anymore, people were so agressive in the streets. When I needed the back of the justice, it was never on my favour, even when I was right, as I was hit in the street by a stranger who made my face bleed, police said that it was nothing and that it was the opposite, even when they had evidence. I was mistreated at a hospital in Schwabing, München and medical attention was refused, police didn't help and they requested my to litereally scream for help, and I did because I was bleeding on a place I didn't know, with -4 degrees, without any jacket. I even tried with the discrimination line, which doesn't work, and if you write them an Email, they will say they cannot help. I Will never understand that level of cruelty, not to mention 5000 Euros I had to pay for a ticket, because I suppousedly scratch the car of a person and because my Kaution was never returned, tried, but never got a lawyer, because you need to pay for the air you breathe in this country. ARD, what is that? You pay for the right of internet, and you pay internet as well, the desorganization with the states is massive, and often times, you will get a letter in your box post having to pay somehting else. My energy and money was completely drained. I just had it. Despite of everything, this country tought me great things, like discpline and hard work which I really appreciate and will take this knowledge...somewhere else. I also became better human being as a result of being exposed to all of the bad things. But I am isolated case, not everyone goes through these things, I did, and to me it was more than enough to wanting to Auf Wiedersehen. Unfortunaly Germany prefers to keep people who did not come to the country to add something, crazy as it seems, they would allow more people who rape, do not respect their culture and commit other crimes, instead of really welcoming people who came here to have a better life. Germany is currently too focused on other countries problems and failed on attending the needs of their citizens and the citizens who came to live here, including europeans, as myself. I truly believe that Germany is a beautiful country, München is one of the most beautiful cities I have ever seen, and has astonishing landscapes and vibrant nature. But...

I can understand you so much. Though I live in Quebec and don't feel that economic pressure so much as someone living in Toronto or Vancouver, I plan to go back to Vietnam or at least in Asia. Because I don't like how Canada has become in term of geopolitical positions.\nI'm forever grateful to Canada and Quebec for welcoming my family and giving us the opportunity to grow up in a peaceful environment and having a career.

Try London England, you’ll find it’s 3-4 times more expensive than Toronto. Or try living in Congo or Palestine, it’s a lot safer than Canada. \n\nSeeing fellow Canadians complain like babies when we have it so good compared to other places makes me EMBARRASSED. Life in Canada isn’t that bad! The cost of food is the same as England £4.50 for strawberries ($8.00), £3.00 ($6) for milk, and £5.50 ($9) for cheese but gas £2.90/L ($4.10/Litr) way more costly in England. It seems like it’s mostly Canadians who ONLY know Canada and immigrants who expected life to be magically easy and handed to them… ? ?‍♂️ I had to learn to be grateful living outside of Canada, the whole world is facing inflation right now! Europe and North America. But Canada isn’t as bad as many places. But then again, I’m not a quitter. The best way to survive is getting a good education and a stable and high in demand career. Nurse, doctor, teacher, lawyer, dentist, psychiatrist, etc etc. Then you will find you might complain a bit less ?

You have the privilege of living in a first world country. You don't know what it's like to live in an underdeveloped country. Be grateful.

I left Canada in 2021 and came back this week for the first time. I am in complete shock I honestly don’t know how people survive. I bought a TRAVEL SIZE conditioner, soap, eyebrow pencil and toothpaste and the total was $47 at shoppers ??. I went to a restaurant with a friend. we shared a meal and got two kid size meals for her kids and 2 glasses of wines . The total was almost $200. Since I’ve been abroad for a while I wanted to go to the doctors and utilize my work insurance. Impossible! Wait time is 3-4 weeks just for an initial meeting. It would be easier for me to pay out of pocket abroad than use the “free” services Canada ( and my job) offers. I have no children and work in tech and I’m grateful but even working in this field I wouldn’t be able to have a quality life living here. It’s so sad I was born and raised here but I see no future for myself in Canada.

Canadian immigration is a joke. I earned a masters here from a reputed university, spent so much time and money, 6 years later I became a permanent resident. I was so grateful. Now, anyone with a sob story in the name of “persecution” can just come here and actually get government money for a good while to settle in. And now, we have entire flight crews just simply “claiming” asylum. The government has made everyone who took the right channels, faced so many hardships in the way are effing losers who could’ve just gotten in through the many bogus channels. i love this country, but it has gone to the dogs steadily since 2015.

I am an immigrant and I am grateful for Canada to accept me and my family. It is true though that living here comfortably (esp Toronto) one need to get hundreds of thousands $ of income per year. I am concerned about my kids future if the cost of living is not taken under control.

The superpowers should help fix these countries Europe will fall if it's filled with immigrants and there's too many bad immigrants who come to commit crime and live on welfare i myself don't have anything against those who come legally to work and are grateful to be here and learn the language

Immigration has become an epically pivotal subject globally and yet it’s presented as a source of political ideology oppose to basic human dignity that without the promise of greener pastures where someone can start over and experience what other people experience, their greeted by border barb wire and intolerance, deportation, not to mention the perils of traveling choppy waters on insufficient crafts. The humanity in me says be grateful as a citizen that has been privy to a place where I can be sanctimonious about the possibilities of issues that someone will hypothetically solve.

It took some years to realize but I did become grateful for being born in Canada. There are still some other great countries but I do believe Canada is one of them. Lets hope our government does not ruin it. ?

A few months ago, I shared a city government survey designed to collect residents' opinions about the next 5-year development plan with some friends, but only one out of five showed interest in participating.\nI hope that more Canadians will take advantage of their democratic system to drive change and shape her into the country they want to live in. Back in my home country, we couldn’t vote for our government, so having democracy is a privilege—please use it wisely while you can!\nNote: I am grateful that the Canadians I’ve met have been very welcoming.

I had to wait a while, but the naive Guardian-esque talking heads arrived eventually. ''It's not a case of we let you in: we need you''. The inference being that Canadian's are grateful for their Government's open-door policy, and to think any differently makes you either myopic or bigoted - a sentiment which is as absurd, as it is untrue. Maybe they should coin it 'Trudeau's Axiom', or something else paradoxical.

As an immigrant myself, moved to BC over 25 years ago and I am always grateful for the opportunity I had in Canada, through hard-work and dedication, got proper education and experience right now. However, this immigration open door policy doesn’t benefit anyone. Canadian government should put a stop to it until they can actually put their own citizens first!

I was born in Canada in the 80s. My parents are from India. So call me racist if it gets you off. My ass is browner than yours probably. \nMy parents, and my uncles and aunts who came here in the late 1970s had to work their asses off to prove they were worthy of even ENTERING Canada, let alone to live in the country. ALL of my older male relatives who came to Canada at that time had a PhD in a science related field or was a medical doctor. EVEN then, they had to go through years of re-training in Canadian schools in order to have a shot at PR. And they persevered and did it, and did well. \nNow, anyone and their dog is allowed in, and it's kind of an insult to all my relatives had to accomplish in order to build a life here. They had to earn doctorates and medical degrees TWICE (once in India and again in Canada).\nWell, that generation did well, and now we're the kids who are grateful and enjoying the sacrifice they put in. What will the kids of illiterate, minimum wage workers be like? Probably not so good.\nCanada's probably done. But does the average Canadian have any desire to do anything. Nope. They used to value hard work and ambition when I was growing up but Canadian culture has become lack of ambition, and entitlements just for existing. \nSo, at least I was raised with the idea of working to no end and sacrificing in order to accomplish something in life. Now, I have the resources to live where I like and do. Canada's just a place I visit now if I feel like it.\nThose of you who like to sit at Tim Horton's every weekend with your beer and weed every night complaining about how your employer should pay you more obesity privileges, enjoy being served by the migrants who WILL take over as you approach the counter in your government funded scooter. Old mother India has out spawned its own pond..Its country CANNOT and DOES not offer a future to its people. Thats a failure by any normal standards. What gets me is, just how many millions have just arrived in other countries in the world. Their numbers and communities exported and imported so solidly everywhere. Within 2 years here in the uk, I am sure there are now, somehow more Indians here than ALL the other groups put together. The place has no time or space to think. Blink and your place has gone. In every sense: social opportunities, place in queues job opportunities(as they set up internal networks that u are excluded from) aka as smugglers and their smuggled, housing bidding, corrupting of housing laws, benefit fraud all massive problems for local authorities and larger government overall. I am so happy to see people who have figured out that our beautiful country is a joy to live in compared to the US. So a belated 'welcome' to you and I hope you stay here and become one of us. For a start Palestine was NEVER EVER Palestinian land. NEVER EVER in history before 1948 was there a Palestinian king or ruler that reigned or ruled over any nation or land in the Middle East. In fact Palestine is only a new name because prior it was Judea for a few thousand years then the Roman Empire changed the name Philistia Palestina which was named after the Phillistines which are not Arab but Greek origins. The Israeli Government FREELY GIFTED PALESTINE TO THE PALESTINIANS in 2005 for the sake of peace. But instead of the Palestinians being grateful for the FREE GIFT and prospering their people they spent the last 20 years spending billions of world aid money from the UN & UNWRA constructing tunnels and making missiles to shoot at Israel. HOW STUPID.

Canada has become an absolute mess. I am proud and grateful Newfoundlander and I am currently living within a main city in Canada for work and I have never been so sick to the state of the country I used to believe was good.\n\nNow I am nothing but a pure anti-immigration person at the sight of a society and culture built here in Canada being destroyed by unregulated immigration and destruction of the way of life.\n\nNewfoundland deserves its independence from this country as it deserved when we voted for our independence in 1949. I dread the day when Newfoundland jobs are stolen from the locals who built their lives there by a government who forces their ideas upon them.\n\nWe are in hell.
