How can anyone think this is about the Border. As a Canadian I worry much more about what is coming from the US; guns drugs people... our border never was the problem. This is about precious metals. Ukraine didn't give them to him so he doubled down on the tariffs.

As a US citizen who didn't vote for the president (Trump) we have who is corrupt, self- serving and would have gone to prison if he had not been voted as president. I too am appalled at what he and his minions have done already. \nI understand what Canada has to do to protect itself. I support Canada.I feel for the Canadian people. Trump is a scourge to our country. Prime Minister Trudeau is too kind to Trump of being smart. He is not smart. He is hurting the American people in so many ways and he does not care. \nThank-you Prime Minister Trudeau and God bless the Canadian people and God bless the American people that didn't vote for Trump .

When the guy who was such a god-awful, terrible, idiotic Prime Minister that his own party told him that he was too embarrassing to continue as leader; lights you up for being dumb and the 86% of Canadians that didn’t want Trudeau to ever appear in public as a Canadian (Let alone PM) agree with him… you’ve got to rethink your position.

Tariff 25%?\n\n●China -99.5% of precursor drugs needed to make fentanyl come from china. No regulations. Tariffs 10%??\n\nMost should know that the fentanyl coming thru Canada is less than 1% If your wondering where the other 99% is coming from,know this- china allows the sale of the precursor drugs needed to make fentanyl, and it's unregulated. They suppy the mexican cartels these drugs to make and sell which comes across Mexican borders into the US. If china regulated the precursor drugs it could stop fentanyl manufacturing in its tracks. Again 10% tariffs vs 25% tariff. There was a time that china cooperated & worked with the US on this but have since stopped.\nSo whatever is going on with the trump administration, it's clear by the numbers this isn't about fentanyl with Canada. Especially since he didn't extend the same tariffs to the country that could actually stop the making of this horrible drug.

Mmm, how come he didn't mention the tariffs on Canadian goods sold in America that Canada has been charging Americans for a long time? What's good for the goose is not good for the gander!

Canadian here and i was just hoping he wasn't gonna just roll over to Trump and I'm so glad he didn't nor do I understand him claiming we're the ones bringing the fent. I knew that was bulls**t. You have threatened your own economic and personal freedom. Prime Minister Trudeau spoke succinctly in a comprehensible way to let you, the american people, know the seriousness of your choice. If you understand what you have done and realize the implications, then peacefully protest (if that is still allowed with your evolving fascist/populist/authoritarian government). Contact your local, state/territorial and federal government officials. You can let your governors, senators and representatives know that you do not agree with the government’s actions and the subsequent hardship it will impose not only on the world but on you, your family and neighbours. Make change happen in a peaceful, non violent manner, while you still can. We didn’t ask for nor want this absurdly unnecessary confrontation but when attacked, we will fight our old friends and historic allies. Elbows up Canada!

Americans obviously didn’t understand what tariffs are, didn’t get that it’s an import tax which they must pay on goods and products they buy from Canada, a tax which tRump collects from Americans and uses to pay for tax-cuts for the richest citizens. But one more thing Americans don’t get is that before this fateful day an unofficial boycott against ALL US goods has been growing since tRump insulted Canada’s Prime Minister and threatened Canada’s sovereignty—whereas Canada’s official countervails ( which only kicked-in today )only target certain US goods, not ALL of them like ordinary Canadians are doing in growing numbers right now—in fact, the imposition of tRump’s tariffs today has only made the unofficial boycott bigger and more organized. If Trudeau had been strong and forceful on all our problems in the last 5 years, he would still be Prime Minister. i think he got caught up in his own self importance, instead of running our country for the good of it's people. I called the Canadian embassy in Washington DC this morning. I told them as an American citizen. It saddens me and breaks my heart that we are treating our allies with such disrespect. I do not stand with the United States government and their treatment of our allies. I also called the Mexican embassy and told them the same thing. I didn’t announce Trump in his cabinet and what they’re doing to our economy that we have worked so hard to resurrect again after he was president last time. I, urge every person who does not agree with what is going on to call the Canadian and the Mexican embassies and just let them know that we stand in solidarity with them and against our government here!

It's interesting he didn't mention anything about the 232 Canadian Tariffs to US Goods already in place for years on things such as Steel, Aluminum, and a slew of household goods and appliances. Weird.

As a Canadian, I didn’t vote for Trudeau but I have to hand it to him, he has expressed the thoughts and feelings of the majority of Canadians very well. Canadians are generally pretty laid back and easy going, often too polite for our own good. However, as the Americans in 1812, the Germans in WW1 and WW2, the Chinese and North Koreans in the Korean War and the Taliban in Afghanistan found out we don’t shy away from a fight when we are provoked.
