I came to the US legally, paid tons of money and time go through the lengthy process, if you tried to run the border like that where I originally come from, you will be greeted with 7.62x39 AK full auto. These people are abusing the civility and respect of human life that Americans have, this is wrong and unfair for the people that made it here legally and paid a high price for it.

CNN, your story is completely incorrect in every possible way. These are migrants which make them eligible for entrance into Canada to be evaluated. The police are informing them that the procedure is to be arrested and then they are lead through an evaulation process where they are assessed or denied refugee status. \n That is how refugees are supposed to be treated according to the 1951 Refugee Convention of the UN that Canada AND THE US not only signed but drew up. Nothing is in the Convention that says separating familiies is legitmate treatment, as has been done at the US southern border. \n It's OK CNN. I'm used to your feckless approach to journalism.

While they wait for the asylum process to be completed, they will be issued a work permit. They will start improving their lot, have babies who will be Canadians, marry into or out of their community, etc. With the passing of time, their chance to become Canadian citizens will improve. I hope these migrants know in the northern Canada-US border along NY, VT, NH and ME, there are also thousands of migrants like them re-entering the US because they find out it's harder to survive in Canada with its weaker economy, MUCH higher taxes, and equally-as-onerous asylum process. A lot of these people will probably never attain full citizenship. The Canadian process is a lot stricter than you'd think. If they have children in Canada though, the children will become citizens automatically.

I think some people are confused, I think that crossing is a legal crossing through authorities, he’s saying if you cross illegally through a different unregulated crossing then you will be arrested. Many people with legitimate cases will be allowed into Canada but it’s a lengthy process. \n\nHe’s also getting the lady’s bags because many who cross this checkpoint do have legitimate cases, if they’re already going to be citizens they should be treated that way unlike other countries who treat all migrants like illegals even while crossing legitimate checkpoints and separate kids from parents and leave them in unsanitary cells

Take care of our citizens first!!! Not the illegals that steal our jobs and real estate etc!!! Prosecute the businesses and corporations that hire these criminals. Prosecute the banks that lend to them and apartments that rent to them. Then they will self deport!! People trying to get into the US the right way through the legal process of H1B visas is basically a lotto. Skilled workers that have been educated in the US only to be turned away instead of being valued. They deserve priority and should be rewarded for their dedication.\n\nAnd here you have unskilled migrants who may not even speak English, running into the US, and putting more stress on the gov’t at the local, state, and federal level. Send them back. I came to canada in 2017 as an international student, paid shit tons of money for housing, tuition fees. Worked full time after graduation,yet my immigration process is taking long. Evey step I took went through proper screening, and yet it's taking forever. Send them back. At this point theres no gurantee for people like me to get permanent residence over here. With all the back logs etc. So why should they be granted status, while my work permit expires in 6 months and immigration officers wont bother to answer my phone calls for extension. I have paid my taxes, I have obeyed the law. I'm a law abiding citizen. At this point, I'm even thinking of going back. This country wants new talents and more people to add to their workforce. But if they treat people like me like this. Then we might as well go back.

I know exactly what some of these people plan.Get the canadian passport then bounce right back to the states...The states is a more complicated immigration process so Canada is there next option.

Slap on the face of South Asian people. Lengthy process with hell lot of money and documents... and there you go... flood of criminals, cartels are entering in canada. I have any friends who are from other countries were trying to get their family members here legally through the legal process and it takes them literally 10 to 20 years and to allow people to just walk across the border and hand them work permits, hotel rooms and checks to support them is a disgrace.. these people for the most part do not speak, read or write English, whereas my friends families, for the most part do speak ,reading write English and a good part of them have college degrees who could contribute quite a bit of this country, but are not allowed to come here immediately.. these people should be allowed to come here immediately as it being sponsored have a place to stay and contribute…

Immigration laws exist for a reason. The audacity of illegals. Their blatant disregard for our process. Bunch of fools that risk their lives and their children’s lives in brutal winter conditions. Meanwhile Canada is in the midst of a housing crisis. Middle class families having to use food banks. We can barely provide for our own. Meanwhile Canadian police continue to act as bellhops. I have witnessed 1st hand people crossing our Canadian border on the coast and they just wait until the RCMP bring a Limo to pick them up. I welcome anyone who goes through the process of legally immigrating. Our Ukrainian friends, Afghan's who were left behind or Syrian's. We are countries of immigration, but to just allow them to crash through is wrong.

this is bullshit. I am an immigrant and I went through the proper process. Why should these people be granted immigration status when they are basically jumping the line? Deport their asses.

Largely economic, not refugees fleeing persecution. You do not get to country shop, and these who enter illegally just stay while their cases overwhelm the review process.
