I am shocked at the fact there are more dislikes than likes when the CBC provides facts and so many people say they are lies, and others agree! The negative sentiments about refugees and immigrants are getting louder and people are happy to call fellow human beings “them”. They insinuate this is a huge burden, when the fact is we benefit from migration. It seems people think Canada will be over run by people from a foreign land, take all the resources and eliminate people born here, but that’s only happened once, when the British and the French arrived 400 years ago.

I see my son get treated very bad .\nBusiness people at the bank\n treated him horrible and he was trying to get help.\n\n basically jerked him around and I'd like to . Tell you he was a not a\n African-American\n . well we R M.I.H MY SON & I . for \n\n\n I don't like that\n they did it at the bank \nthey did at the\n grocery store get it LOT OF places oh I know where it was at I couldn't think it was at CVS . Pharmacy\n and then I told on them.\n I told my doctor they treated my son and .I. CVS would not let me have my medicine my doctor give them a phone call and he was upset he EAT him up and spit him out \nbecause I have diabetes \ndon't. NOT let my son get my medicine and it's hard for me to walk around and I called him up and ask why \nand then I did get my medicine and I never did have no more trouble out them after my doctor ball to out they against my son but people listen at this we're not African American where are we we are not I seen the kind of thing two we was up to the courthouse and these police officers was looking at me and laughing I'm an overweight woman and overweight people gets treated bad we get laughed at we get made fun of and every way I got jerked around at the courthouse in Anderson they really treated me horribly and I think it was because I was overweight and they was very rude and nasty to every customer to come in and I don't know why to me it always pointed out and all I'll be pointed out so it's not only African Americans but it's people like myself that has a weight problem I I am A obesity white woman

Ok I hate racial issues like seriously we are all the same people who cares what the skin shows I was just at Walmart and I was followed all around and got stopped because I let my son play with a toy I was going to purchase and they told me he couldn’t so I said fine what ever put it in the cart. Cue a 14 month old screaming fit the whole time same guy followed me all the way to a line I paid got stopped at door by same guy asking for my receipt and he went through every damn bag with my 14 month old still screaming i am a white woman dealing with an area that has people following Mother’s alone with their young children and attempt to kidnap them never been more terrified in my life

That's because we live in a society where it is embedded in us to conform to certain standards. Black people and other races of color are more suppressed in a sense because of what they have endured and may have to deal with this, especially, more than whites. Subconsciously, a black person is more prone to agree with the white standard that's been forced upon them , causing the answers to have no preference either way. If white people were the minority and lived in a predominantly black society then a white persons answers would also show no preference either way. I wish it wasnt so and hopefully one day, all of us as a whole, can change this idiocy, and come together as one.

You know, we in the US used to resent Canada because they seemed kinder and more generous. We were jealous of that. Americans seemed harsher and greedy. Now I feel very sorry for Canadians. I'm muslim but i dont like the arabs muslim (not all arabs but mostly of them) becuz of the way they behave. They are refugees from their own country but they are disrespectful to their destination country. The arabs are not grateful with what they have been given from the other country. If They wanna be one of the majority community, then they have to be thankful and accept the culture of the majority community .They must be fluent and well spoken in english too. Not force the other people to accept their bad culture and not just think about the passport of the country they want to live in and get benefit from it. \n\nThose muslim country that are non arabs are living in harmony. We need to shut down immigration until we're at full employment, the participation rate is near 100%, wages are rising, and young people have enough confidence in their futures to begin starting families. We don't need or want any more immigrants.

The U.S a country of over 4 hundred millions people need to be more careful about these frauds because we have more than enough people now. I love to go out eat at the Chinese restaurant at least two to three every week, I don't know if anyone sees the way I saw their waiters and waitresses to me I have always see new people every time I go eat in there.

Unfortunately the same in most Western countries today, including the one I am from. Why don't all the nations like US and Canada try to help fix what is happening from the places these people are fleeing, especially if they are murder capitals? They can recruit these migrants to form coalitions to rebuild their nation. What if they are really are going to suffer there, without outside intervention, by being recruited, instead, into gangs or be killed or raped? If we send troops to the middle east for our vested interest, then don't we also have at least some vested interest to send troops in Honduras and El Salvador? We can prevent the entire population from migrating, prevent people from being exploited and hurt while traveling or living illegally and the taxpayers and citizens won't have to pay for court costs, education, healthcare and welfare. There are plenty of things our nation can do to uplift our own destitute and out of luck an alone citizens...with that money. With the money now saved, it can be diverted to cover the costs of our troops, counselors, educators in those nations. Then it is possible and foreseeable to reunite all the undocumented immigrants back to their now safer home countries. I understand why they flee and also understand why the US and Canada cannot absorb these large population of people, and they have the right to determine who is invited in, so....why can't there be more permanent solutions? I feel, certain pathetic political groups are playing these migrants, the law-abiding citizens and others in their game of chess. Lives are not pawns for chess. Is there a hidden path for drugs, money, prostitution that is being quietly supported? Are certain businesses lobbying in the millions and billions to get cheap labor? Is that why this problem is not finally being solved but kept alive for so many years? There are basic solutions that have not been tried in earnest. You cannot just bring everyone in and you cannot just turn your face to the problems these undocumented people face... I feel like much is not being discussed about this situation....Something else is going on that they are not covering...

I don't know what Sharia Law/ Islam is all about to hate it that much. We have Muslims in our country. At least around 20% of the population. Maybe more than Australia... but there are as many different interpretation of Islam and Sharia Law, as the Bible and Christian denominations. What you probably have is the Radical Extremist type.... The type that doesn't accept differences in culture and the population they are in. They are the minority who wants to have the majority rule... We also have problems with Radical Islam and majority of the Muslim population in my country does not accept them that much. There are certainly discrimination against Muslim, but not as much as most western countries does. My advise is to not to generalize Muslims as one type of people. There are people in that community that does not believe in extremist interpretation of the law. Second, deport or watch radical extremist as they are dangerous to any multicultural society, like the white supremacist and Neo- Nazis in the US. Some of them are citizens. Deporting your own citizen to a different country is far-fetched. Third, accept them as part of a sub- culture, having their own ways within their group, yet under the laws of the nation they are living. The way they dress, polygamy, and women's rights are just some issues that Westerners usually cringe about. But there are other religions who practice these as well. Lastly, stop hating each other because your hate will empower extremism. \nReligion is either you are born with it until you are old/ mature enough to choose or an independent choice.

Before I moved to Brampton, I had no idea HOW MANY Indians actually lived here. I'm of south Asian descent but I grew up here as a Canadian. I still keep my culture but I'm Canadian FIRST. It's true too, some of them don't believe in deodorant, holy shit I literally had to tell a guy who sat beside me on the bus that he smelled. I know it was rude but if someone doesn't tell these people, they will think not wearing deodorant is normal. I miss the Canada I grew up in. My friends were mostly white but there was a nice mix of us: white, black, asian so we all got along. Today, everyone is in their own groups, strangers are the enemy, there is so much more segregation than there has ever been. Not long ago at a Tim Hortons I heard an Indian guy who was clearly new to the country telling his friend he didn't have to learn English because everyone in Brampton speaks Punjabi, it was insulting hearing that.....Listen up Indians and any immigrants coming here: BEFORE you come here, learn English, LEARN the customs and learn the CANADIAN WAY. You owe it to Canada, give something back before you start taking.

As someone who is more liberal minded, I don't agree with illegal immigration (I'm also pretty fiscally conservative). I'm open to the idea of healthcare for all, I'm open to legalized pot (even though I hate pot), I don't agree with most wars, and I don't give a rats ass who someone marries or who makes your cake. But all those things are for CITIZENS. That CITIZENS should have. Not someone who comes here just because they think everything is free, don't need to learn English and probably not pay taxes. This is supporting something illegal. I wish democrats could stick up for this country, rather than certain demographics. I believe we would never lose again if they could do that. This is the reason healthcare for all cannot be talked about right now. We have people thinking they can come here and do nothing with how things are now. Imagine if healthcare was free.

It's a lie that refugees give back more than they take. Stats for 2011 show that immigrants take, on average, about $6K a year more than they pay in tax. The government mantra that immigrants pay Canadians social security checks after they have been here a while is bogus propaganda. Canadians may want to take people in knowing they will be a burden to taxpayers and that's one thing, we do have big hearts, but the truth should be told to the taxpayers who end up paying for it. Don't you think?

Haha. I see a lot of ignorance in this comment section. We treat immigrants and asylum seekers with a little more respect than the United States. It's not perfect but I rather these people have a place to stay while they are processed then locked in cages. I rather get more tax payers in the long run. Most immigrants and refugees pay more tax and work harder then Canadian born citizens.

I live in Toronto, Canada.\n\nFirstly, their are 500 men,women and children being placed in hotels temporarily. Much better than cages! \n\nSecondly, these individuals have already gone through the immigration process, hearing claims, back ground checks, medical checks. So these individuals in hotels have already been accepted to stay in Canada. They are in hotels due to Housing shortage issue. \n\nThird, way more illegal immigrants have been detained and removed from Canada. \n\nFourth, most of these people are families. Canada is very skeptical of accepting males. Sorry guys! \n\nFifth, these hotels have a contract with the government. These are the same hotels that were used to temporarily shelter Syrian refugees. Usually 3-4 families stay in one hotel. 500 people won't be staying in the same hotel. Plus the hotels charge the government an insane amount. So they make money. \n\nSixth, more than 10% of hotel cleaning jobs go unfilled. Guess what? Most of these asylum seekers end up working in the hotels they're staying in because of program called Employing Newcomers in Canadian Hotels Project. \n\nDon't worry about us America we know what we're doing. Trust me, no children were separated from their families and placed in cages.

There is nothing in the Quran about covering your face/head. That stuff is found in the Hadith. And Muslims pick and choose which Hadith they follow (even when they are found in the same books). For example, they ignore the Hadiths that talk about the FIRST version of Islam, called the Satanic Verses (Muhammad recanted that version of Islam, saying that the first angel he talked to told him the wrong things because it was actually a devil disguised as an angel). If they accept that Hadith, they have to accept that if Muhammad could be tricked by a devil the first time, what is to say that he couldn't be tricked a second time? Also, the Quran was not written down until much later, it was memorized by certain people. I was born in Seattle and left to Canada (married) when I was in early 20's!  This then was a good change for me as Vancouver was a great city compared to Seattle, moved right downtown and had a blast so for a young person (then) was great.  Met some great people from all over the world and had health care, medical/Dental etc.... I worked in the greater Vancouver area for 8 years and it was tough, very strict, and did not help that I was from the states, white bread Canadian seemed a bit jealous that I was there, sometimes not very friendly.  The Europeans I met were actually better to deal with and I got along quite well with them.  The cost of living was about the same as in Seattle.  After about 8 years being in Canada and working hard I saw America booming and the Canadian dollar was as low as $.62 cents (in late 90's) so I took my craft from Vancouver and brought it to the US just across the border, I became much happier working in the States, I took a little bit of bs but not bad from some that I had a Canadian accent (go figure when I moved up there I had a twang) I really never left the united states I will always be American and I have been still working in the US for over 20 years and deal with mainly Americans on a daily basis from all over the State of Washington.  Depending on where you grow up or end up you should never see a border Seattle and Vancouver have more in common than Vancouver / Calgary in fact most Canadians don't care much for the other provinces.  After 30 years of being part of both countries, I can say that people are people both have great offerings and if you took the best of Canada and America to combine then we would all prosper, there is so much both can learn from each other.  Bottom line:I take the best of both worlds and what they have to offer, yes, I have found less expensive goods in Canada than what they cost in the states.  I have seen it from both eyes, and if you cant be open culturally then stay away.

From what I heard coming from other source .Also when I see them at food banks taking home more than $150.00 in groceries from just 1 food bank they goto 9 amonth .their cell phones are top of the line .Clothes and shoes brand name only .Gold jewllery ladys purses $300.00 and up .And they all have cars from 40 thousand and up . One place i never see them is value village .How do they do iit ?I had 2 kids and on welfare a few years back and I had a hard time trying to get some things that we badly needed and could not afford and things were a lot cheaper .The most I ever spent at no frills been on assistance was $75.00 for the whole month .6 years ago and no cell phone gold. or cars .So how these people do it ?oh and by the way I go ti no frills once a week .Those same refugees are there every thursday spending $500.00. on goceries and none of them work .Some time neighbours talk and thats how things are know .Our government is a big lier .We the tax payers are paying for all of these Once a refugee of this country one canot be sent back or deported so if this refugee never finds a job you the tax payer and I will pay for his or her assistance and maybe for a life time .like in the case of gypsies refugees they are all on assistance go to all the food banks rob the community of their belongins their cars items from stores donations in front of churches and stores they dress the best also spend hundreds of dollars on food they shop for clothes at the mall and we the tax payer brake our backs 6 days a week 10 hours a day like me and I cant afford even half of what these people can .So even if they become criminals we have to support them .Some refugee law and rights should be changed to ensure that tax payers are not been taking advantage of .

I'll lay it out for you: Me: typical middle of the road liberal oriented Canadian. Non white, immigrant (I wasnt born here) I worked in a Refugee housing for over 4 years in Ontario. Most were not war areas refugees (Yes I know there are other types of refugees). I only encountered few refugees from war areas. ONLY 1 person from Iraq, about 2 families were from Afghanistan, 1 couple from Pakistan(I doubt they were real refugees they spoke fluent English, maybe political refugee), and a most from African countries. Its too far for real refugees to get here. Its Easier for them to go to other countries nearby or Europe. MOST SEEM TO BE ECONOMIC REFUGEES. Most were coming from Africa. Some are coming from Latin America, which shouldn't be happening. Once they showed up at our doorstep and we processed them into the system, they were immediately in the same class as a Canadian resident homeless person if they were making a refugee claim. We get money to house and feed them (from the government), and they are given a stipend for basics from the government processed through the Social Assistance/ Welfare system (they get less than a resident/citizen I think.). They then have to get their case processed by the refugee board, and most seem to get in. I've only heard of few getting sent back. One person I know at our facility, was given a subsided social housing apartment after a year in our facility. So they went straight from a shelter to a government/city owned subsidized apartment. (Didn't seem like it was a issue for the housing worker...they didn't report it (if they were not the ones that helped the person to get it), they were white, the housed person was Latin. This refugee claimant, and then month or two new Canadian resident person was given an apartment in a prime area of the city, instead of the 1000's of Canadians, those who came before them, and born Canadian citizens on an extremely long waiting list. How this was allowed to happen I don't know. The person was probably sucking on someone's straw. I'm just trying to think the barriers these people have to go through to get a job here. We are far removed from the time of the 80's and 90's., and housing and jobs are so hard to get. I wish it was talked about more, seeing Trudeau's beautiful tweets most people run up to Canada expecting that they will be welcome to open arms, the reality is that 70-80 will be deported.
