This interview completely misses the point by interviewing the “wrong” immigrant. Immigrants to Canada leave for the U.S. because Canada prefers “high value” immigrants (e.g., physicians, engineers, scientists, entrepreneurs with excellent track records, occupations that are expensive to train and/or individually contribute a lot to the GDP) that the U.S. would also like to attract. Not only can many of these people make more money in the U.S., but they often encounter more help and/or less restrictions with professional licenses (e.g., most states have an industrial exemption for engineers, and do a better job at helping foreign doctors and nurses get their licenses to practice medicine). How many times have we heard of a foreign professional reduced to driving a taxi or becoming a housewife when they move to Canada because an immigration official didn’t properly inform the immigrant of the hoops they would have to jump through, and the provincial professional association offered minimal, if any, assistance? \n\nThis PhD student (and others with more academic than lucrative educations) may think he’ll have it made moving to the US but I think he overestimates his value. The small liberal arts colleges that may have hired someone with his background are decreasing in number or changing to a more technical focus (usually to computer science because it doesn’t require expensive labs needed in medicine or engineering). American students are now more critically examining what degrees, if any at all, will lead to better paying careers, and I doubt Myanmar is on their radar as a money-making opportunity.

I have seen many indian officials in india and almost all of them are not quick to anger. Even if they are bad mouthed or accosted . That is level of their training. \n\n Even if they are corrupt, they will not loose cool. They will smile all along. She went for emergency visa and there might be some minor issues with documentation. \nAs the officer , donot have authority to ignore such issues. He would have asked for correction and lady who is already in distress due to fathers passing, must have said something wrong which might be reflective of her experiences when she was indian citizen. She donot know drastic changes happened in past 10-15 years.\n\n.This would have triggered this official. \nFor video, this lady became calm. Collected when official flew in rage.

Next month I will have to use the food bank. I’m a senior in Alberta. I got a raise of $9.60 to offset inflation. The amount is yes $9.60 a month. My rent is going up $100.00 on April 1st. Groceries are still climbing here. My car is 22 years old and still running well. I put gas in twice a year. I would work but I have more incurable diseases than fingers. Next they will tell us if you can’t afford to live on what you get, they’ll send MAID to help us out of our misery.

You are not giving us the entire picture. More people are still coming than are leaving. Who even knows the number of people in this world that still believe in the 'Canadian Dream' and would be here in a moment if they could. All these videos about people leaving en mass are just stirring things up. Of course some people will leave but more will come.

America has some breathtakingly beautiful places and my girfriend and I do Storm chase down there when we get a chance, however we always can't wait to return home. As flawed as Canada can be sometimes, we would never consider moving there at all. It's a great country to visit but it's a NO from us.

One day I overheard them in Chinese repeatedly talking about my country Mexico which got me to talk with them. They were quite happy to learn I could speak Chinese but more excited to learn I was from Mexico. They started asking me a bunch of questions about crossing the border into the US to which I bluntly told them I had no idea about and discouraged it. I asked where they got these crazy ideas from and they said that people were posting videos and tutorials of how to cross into the US online. The Chinese government hard handed approach to COVID was what made them leave. They wanted to go both for the freedom and economic benefits but they had a very naive and overly optimistic view of the US. They saw the high wages US workers were making but had no idea as to the incredibly high living costs associated with living there. I tried explaining that there was a housing shortage and that their expectations for life in the US would set them for disappointment but they either didn't believe me or brushed off my criticism. I also tried encouraging them to go to German or Australia instead (places which I feel would be better and easier for them to enter) but they seemed dead set on just going to the US. Unfortunately I don't know where they are now as Wechat is blindly and constantly blocking and deleting accounts in SE Asia without reason......................

Canada has become an exclusive club for people who want to own a home or own real estate. Supply side issues but open immigration has made it a real estate haven for investors from all over the world. Black money or not, you can easily bring drug or money laundering, or other dishonest (a.k.a haram) money into Canada, and law enforcement is asleep at the wheel. Canada needs to be more like the US in order to make this country work in the long run. The prince of Nigeria and his relatives would like to buy real estate in Canada? Of course, its a no brainer!

You haven't mentioned enormous bureaucratic apparatus of the government which costs a lot to run being extremely inefficient at the same time. Canadian immigration program is just a cheap labor scam and Ponzie scheme. My wife works in retail. Earns minimum wage plus commission from sales. She made almost 25% less in 2023 compared to 2022. If adjusted for inflation that would be closer to 30%. My salary was ok in 2018 but became stagnant. Both incomes combined barely make us through the month. The fact that I have to work two weeks in a month just to pay rent is very depressing. Having lived in Canada for almost 6 years I seriously regret decision to move here.

A few years ago I got job offer to work in Canada, it looked attactive in the beginning until we went over the offered wage which was slitghly above my income working in the US, the issue came up when I saw how much I would get net in my pocket after taxes, social security, etc, the amount was lower to my net income at that time, and comparing the higher cost of life in Canada (home rent, grocery, utilities, etc) vs USA, oh man!!, I had to turn it down. I cannot imagine how expensive it is to live in Canada these days, but for sure it must be a way higher. I kind understand why this decline of citizenship applications is happening.

I would have never imagined someone would dream of moving to Canada . Simple answer Canada wanted more people because its population was low . Most people live on the border with US. It is however the one of the most beautiful places I have ever been

Canadians don't like the US' expensive healthcare or the gun violence, and Britain is a sh*tshow with property prices that would make the average Canadian's eyes water and the highest rates of inflation in the G7. When you hear right wingers claim folks are leaving Canada, ask them where these folks are going to. Prepare for the crickets.

Why would you say the “cost of healthcare in Canada is higher than in Europe” when it’s literally paid-for by our taxes? I mean it doesn’t cover everything (same as UK) like doesn’t cover pharmaceuticals, physio, hearing aids, or dental for most people (they’re changing that slowly thanks to our socialist party that’s been keeping the libs in line), but it’s ridiculous to say it’s costly since for most tax payers it’s basically free. Duh.. it doesn’t work perfectly b/c they are not funded enough b/c rich don’t pay enough taxes, but it suffices. At least everyone is covered unlike the US where only the rich have good healthcare and no medical debt. Very deceptive video.

As a Canadian, I love immigration. As a renter though, our government failed us so hard. They defunded our housing in hopes that the private market would pick up the slack. It didn't, then because of our economy/demographics are we had to massively increase immigration. It broke a system that was already crumbling. Now a whole generation of people will never be able to afford to buy their own home many of us can't even afford the rent. Is it that surprising the majority of our legislators are landlords?

Only lazy selfish people who came to Canada thinking only about making money and building Canada,. Canada those NOT need those types of newcommers and they should leave. Those who came before us and built Canada were focused, worked very hard for pennies, and yet focused on building Canada. That's why Canada is a super power today. This is missing SOOOO much of the actual story of what is going on over here. There is a lot of corruption in our housing market fueled by faked incomes just for starters. That's not including the massive supply and demand crunch we are facing on multiple fronts from having too much people suddenly, to having not enough housing suddenly. For those curious, you can find some CBC marketplace videos that cover some of this from a couple years back. The banks have been caught f'ing around as well, what with pushing through mortgage requests that should never have been allowed to occur; and that's just what we know about. \n\nNo offense to anyone in this video, or anyone else like them. We know that a good large chunk of most of you are not at fault here with what's going on. But there are some people from all sorts who are all doing their own dirty little deeds, and they are culminating into the gigantic pile of BS that the rest of us now get to deal with. \n\nAnd make no mistake, what I am saying is not even close to the full extent of the BS going on. This is just one facet of it. There still is the universities mentioned that we need to talk about, whom have been fleecing internationals for years now. Canada has never been easy, but it was the easiest path for unskilled, lowly educated Indian workers from rural areas to be able to migrate abroad, as they don't have a shot at legal pathways in the US or other EU countries. Of course unskilled workers will have a hard time here, as they would anywhere else. Tamper your expectations and know your capabilities.

US Citizen here. My late Father was Dual Status... US Citizen & Canadian Subject. My family still has cousins in Ontario, Canada. At one time my Retirement Options included Canada as Permanent Residency would be easy. Residency is now more complicated & Costly... Plus my Canadian cousins that are roughly the same age as I am are moving to the Philippines where we have Filipino Cousins in Retirement. I'm planning to be Retired from the Civil Service & in the Philippines by November 2024.

I would love to know why immigration here is always about Indian immigrants what about the rest of us so sick and tired of this! been here 20 years and didnt take the citizenship for a long time as a UK english speaking permenent resident I was required to take an english class that I would be forced to pay for maybe they should look at some of the ridiculous rules to apply to change from a PR to Citizen! not to mention the really high cost of applying is ridiculous after you have been paying taxes ever stop to think the system is broken?

My family is very comfortable in Canada. Only country that I would rather start a business in would be the US. Canada, US, Australia are the 3 best countries to live in if you want to be wealthy.

I'm so glad to finally see people talking about this issue. I'm originally from Africa, but I was raised in the US, so spent most of my life in the country (35+ yrs). And, I felt this deep loneliness even as a child. I would cry whenever we went back home to visit and it was time to go back to the US, and I would be really depressed for quite a while after getting back to the US. I never felt that life was normal, and everytime we met a new immigrant, I remember thinking to myself, even as a child or teenager that they just don't know the trap they are getting themselves into. Kudos to you for speaking up about this.

so why would the internationals suffer the consequence of the immigration problem.... yes lessen the tuition ... it is becoming ridiculous 6x and now what we can get even employment after graduation.... crazy... first check all the colleges.... make sure they are giving proper education ethics... support international and give us equity rights

Who on Earth would want to live here? We are such a depressing and failing culture and society. We have placed ourselves in a situation where nothing properly can grow here. Canada will get far more depressing over the next decades. I tell people all the time don't come here, you'll pay more than money for coming here. And I tell people, who are able, to leave. Find a better place to call home. Canada can't be home to people. Not with how we are easily dislodged, displaced and how everything around us is on fire and burning down. \n\nDon't come to Canada unless you're suicidal and want to die, or you happen to be super rich and you can make it. \n\nCanada will be losing many many Canadians in the future. Whether it's people leaving the country, whether it's people returning to their old countries, or whether it's people killing themselves off desperately trying to find solutions to problems. \n\nPlease don't come here people. \n\nCanada is a horrible place to live. And if I could leave here, I would. But alas I'm a very poor Canadian. So that leaves me with options of suicide later in life, at least Canada is getting programs together for that and the options become more accessible every passing year. A multi-cultural, multi-national melting pot is not to everyone's taste. A country with a predominate Muslim population would serve your needs better. I think you would be better suited in a different country than Canada or the US.

It's refreshing seeing Canadians' opinion on a national issue in the comment section. Just acknowledging that they face a problem and how it should be tackled, no aggressive xenophobia, no racism. I have visited the United States many, many MANY, MANY times over the years. I've loved every single visit. The people are warm and lovely....some of your scenery and historic things were more than a joy to behold Would I ever want to move there ? Not even for a second. In fact, sadly, my husband won't even go back for a visit anymore. This is sad to me, but I understand where he is coming from. \nWas sad to say good-bye to our dearest friends who moved to the US, because the job pay and promotion was impossible to say no to. They lasted 2 months and settled for less pay and no promotion to come back home. They found it so weird, that all the new friends they made, thought they were freaks because they didn't own guns. The final straw was when they learned these people were packing when they came to summer barbeques. That was the final straw, and they high-tailed it home. \nIn recent times, a country run by someone I see as a loose cannon, psychopath...makes it a most emphatic NO.

Reading comments, I think you’re making the right decision.\n\nI live in the US and not going to lie, recently I think what if all the Muslims left. All the doctors lawyers labor workers, we are valuable and not treated that way here. I think it would be a wake up call for the country. The Western world has demonized and dehumanized Muslims. I’ve only been to Dubai (outside of us) and it was beautiful to feel comfortable being a Muslim.

I lived in Canada for over 20 long suffering cold years. My rent in 1982 in Kamloops for a large two bedroom appartment was 105 bucks a month. Then when I moved back to Toronto and got an apartment right on Young at Grosvenor our rent shot up to a tough 620 bucks a month (all utilities included) but I was making a lot of money so it seemed like the good life. I wonder how expensive that luxury high rise is today? Probably about $4500 per month would be my guess. Canadians don't like to talk of the negatives in Toronto, but I feel really sorry for some of my family still there. My mother in law broke her back. All they could do is give her pain killers for the four months before she could get penciled in for surgery. And that was before it all went to hell. It's nice to see so many shots of places that were once so much a part of my life, but in all honesty moving to the States was the best thing I ever did. It was in fact like an escape from madness. Now similar crazyness is here, even on the South East coast of the US. Time to look for another escape. Any suggestions?\nOh, and my friends cousin got murdered in the Jane and Finch area years ago. Immigration is less integral to the economy than we think. A trivial increase GDP growth wage growth, is meaningless when housing costs can go up 20% per year. Even other costs are going up because retailers rent is so damn high. I have a family member who is dying because of healthcare backlogs and i have untreated injuries right now because the doctor told me it would be a 6 month wait for a cat scan. Im scared for the future, but at least they gave us MAID .

Change my mind. \nBut if Alberta starts slipping to the Left with another NDP/Socialist government, i would move to the US no question. Not just anywhere though. The 2 coasts are dumpster fires. (No offense if you live there) Canada is messed up like the 2 coasts. Trudeaus MO has been to systematically dismantle this once great, thriving, proud country for 8 long years. With election fraud and more seats in the Maritime provinces than all the Western provinces, and the Federal government bribing those poorer provinces for votes, it may be a long time before the Liberals are removed. Problem with Canada is colleges and universities are not funded like US. For Engineering and STEM, US government and private companies like Intel/Microsoft/Qualcomm and many more spends million on research projects, and although US does rely on international students to fund students its not desperate like Canada. Besides, US has many college towns, no housing crisis like Canada and has robust economy. I studied in US free of cost with monthly stipend, fully funded by one such research grant. \nStudents should also realize sooner or later, especially in tech, that countries like Canada, NZ, Australia and UK are no. match for the United States. But then Indian students know in US they would never get green card. Canada/Australia/NZ were built like colonies, they don't have infrastructure- cities, roads, houses, airports, hospitals or even good colleges for such heavy immigration. They can take only limited immigrants in small busts.

I have a friend living outside Hamilton, her husband died not being able to see the specialists he needed in a timely fashion. Her Daughter had a life threatening disease, she lived close enough to NY to take her daughter there for treatment that saved her life. She’ll tell you straight to your face that Thank God for US Doctors!!! Or her daughter would be dead as well.

It seems like every Liberal Left government worldwide is determined to change and destroy the greatest cities on earth. You have to ask yourself why would they knowingly do this. There is definitely an agenda for this and to most if not all the citizens of these cities they have become complacent and accepting and saying oh well that must be progress. No, it’s not. I totally agree that this country will break your spine and test your ultimate willpower. Me and my wife came here 5 years back and we decided that we will shut ourselves like a tortoise. Forget about savings and forget about everything else. Only and only one goal we had in mind is that we will live in the basement and earn top dollars. Just to give you a perspective. My first pay was 19 dollar per hour and my current pay is 87 per hour. My wife started with 16.5 per hour and now earning 69 per hour. Even though our income grew substantially, we never raised our expenses. Answer to all problems in Canada is income. Now after 5 years we bought house worth of 1.4 M. We moved out of basement and felt immense pride. We paid 37% down payment and 3 banks approved our mortgages in a heartbeat. No debt at all. We paid up our car in full. Just a regular new suv nothing fancy. \nEveryone is different, we all are unique and I believe you took a right decision. Each and every word you said in the video is true. \nWe cried , we fought , we felt that our life is ruined but we both thought that ek bar to Canada ko harana hai. We crossed 300k and lately to be honest we got a kick in living in basement.
