I think this is an initial step of Trump trying to get Canada’s natural resources. I don’t know how it would play out, but that’s the only thing I can make sense of based on Trump’s broader actions and comments.

In Japan buildings depreciate in value, like cars, so the house I built last year is worth less this year (and my taxes on it are less). When I first got here I thought it was a horrible system, but now I see what a powerful benefit it is. Housing is quite affordable and there are lots of mixed neighborhoods, like mine, with million-dollar homes, small multi-units, and fewer gated communities. We suffer from a blight of abandoned buildings because at a certain point it just doesn't make economic sense to fix up an old (often cheaply made) home. But because home ownership is a luxury, like a fancy car, not a necessary means to accrue wealth, mortgages and rents are low and there's cheap (and small, so very very small) housing everywhere.

It's honestly kinda terrible here, dual income families who make 100-150k a year are in a position where they can not rent a reasonable place and also can't afford to buy. It makes no sense. I want to leave but then I'd lose my job.

Canada border patrol overseers need to do a better job in securing that part of the border on that side. They can stop those buses and check those planes for them coming into the US. Reading all the comments and thinking if the effort of staying permanently is worth it! I am from Iran, have been studying here for 2 years, and reading all these disappointed comments makes me think deeply! I think it would be wiser to compare the Canada to other countries “now”. Comparing Canada to its own past and thinking of moving to another country because it’s better, doesn’t make sense. I am sure many countries are going through the same situation !

I served for 6 years in the Air Force and I lean mostly right on transgender issues (keep biological men out of female sports, there are only 2 genders, etc), but I'm hard pressed to understand why people who are trans can't serve their county - I don't see reasonable justification for that. If you get deported as an illegal immigrant, you should be able to take your children with you. What about us who came here legally and we paid to get our citizenship and went through so much processing to get here legally while others can just cross the borders illegally and get citizenship somehow. They were not screened if they have criminal records and they didn't go through a health inspection like we did. The law is law and it should always be implemented, no exceptions. I have met someone who was not a U.S. citizen but she gave birth on an airplane above the U.S. territory and her son became an automatic U.S. Citizen. I thought that was weird. The children should maintain the same citizenship as their parents so they will not be separated. Birthright citizenship has divided and dislocated families. This law meant that the U.S. government will take the baby away from the parents because they have no citizenship and put their children in the Foster Care Home Systems? That doesn't even make sense to separate a family, this law is a home wrecker. It needs to be abolished ASAP.

It makes more sense, to make Mexico the 51 state.
