You are better dead than poor in the USA. Your politics are entertainment, and very destressing. No matter which side you are on, about 50% of the people hate you. There is no middle ground, meanwhile your children die more from gunshot than anything else. You have made law and order a business, incarnating more citizens than any other country in the world. You have made medical a business as well, again , better dead than poor in the USA. \n I have meet some fine US people, the general population is not that much different from Canadians. The people are not the government, either, they are just people. \n I don't hate, or even dislike the USA, I just feel they have a system in place that doesn't really represent the average citizen. One thing I would love to see in the US is a third political party, more middle of the line. Something is needed to pull America back together again.

This is an interesting overview of Canada and its many issues. I would love to see a follow up video or two looking into these same issues but from a few different perspectives. 1) regionally - Canada is very diverse so our regions are quite different in culture, problems and cause of each. The major regions are: Maritimes/Ontario/Quebec/Prairies/West Coast/ Territories. 2) because of our diverse landscape different races are attracted to different areas. I have not studied this impact on our racism and political issues but would love to see someone like you do so. It appears to me that immigrants are disproportionately gathered along the US/Canada border and big cities, particularly east and west coast. First Nations are disproportionately populated in Rural and northern areas where resources overall are less available to all races. I would expect to find that this population disbursement would also reflect in our political leadership. For example more populated cities are far more likely to have immigrant own businesses and politicians, In rural and northern communities politicians are more likely to be white because First Nations politicians would be more inclined to work within the First Nations political channels where they can actually do more good for their communities. 3) The diversity that makes up 'white' as a race. It appears to me that Canada historically has been more inclined to attract 'White' races versus other 'colours'. We have large populations of British, Swedish, Irish, Russian, Ukrainian, French, Norwegian, and Polish to name a few. All of which have large diversity in their culture and history but are often classified as 'white'. 4) The massive impact the past 5 + years of politics and world affairs have had on the divisions within Canada. Personally I see and feel far, far more judgements between races, economics and regions than ever before.

I lived in Canada from 1983 to 2016 after I left the US Air Force in '83. I was born in the SF Bay area, and grew up there in the Hippie peace love/Viet Nam era in the 60's and 70's. I now live in Seattle. As we have travelled to San Fran, New Orleans, Nashville, Miami, Vancouver (Canada) and New York in the last 6 months, I kinda have a pretty good idea how it was on both sides of the border way back then, as well as right now. We have 2 rental homes, and I STILL have to work until I'm 70 to retire without worrying about losing it all because of the the high cost of health care. Your observation of race/political/religion relations are naive at best, you need to travel the country first hand to see it. Canada has it's far share of right wing crazies as well. They're mostly not armed, and most fights are 5 minute shouting matches. I know this because I work on construction sites. Canada doesn't have commercials for pharma or ambulance chasers. Because big pharma is kept in check, and with a population slightly smaller than California, frivolous lawsuits would clog the courts. If the PM killed some one on the corner of Yonge and Bloor in Toronto, he'd go to jail. You can get an abortion in Canada. There's a fraction of the Fentanyl crisis happening in Canada, and they have waaayy less homeless in the street. Canada has 2 weeks paid vacation AND paid holidays. The tax rate is higher in Canada, but many of the benefits make up the difference. It's cheaper to buy a house in Seattle than Vancouver. You can get a 30 year mortgage in Washington as well, instead of 5 or 10 years. Good and services tend to be cheaper and more plentiful Stateside. Mail service runs on weekends, it hasn't done that in Canada since the 80's. As it stands, I'm in Seattle right now because it isn't the typical US city by far. But I'm thinking when it comes to retiring, I'm putting Canada on the list. Being a dual citizen also makes me eligible for the other Commonwealth (universal health care) countries like Australia.

As a Canadian there looks like some great places to visit in the USA but i would never move to the US. The biggest issue in the US is Gun violence, there attachment to guns. Number two is health care, number three is weather volatility and more adverse weather conditions. Instead of one main government the US seems to have two which prevents any real change for the better. Money controls more government and political decisions than even in Canada which is already bad enough. The NRA controls more government and policing. They are seen as the bigger risk to American safety and security. I believe many Canadians believe the NRA are on the cusp of being the largest domestic terrorist organization and closure to a major cartel. Not even the military could control the NRA if the US decided to enforce new laws that the NRA felt would effect their financial, political or perceived control in the US. This is a big reason Canadians may not want to move to the US. To think there is a private military ready to go to war against their own people in the drop of a hat, reminding North Americans of the war between the North and South. There are beautiful places to see in the US, there are hard working and brave people in the US and i am sure there are more good people than bad but those with power, control and weapons have the great degree of balance. The US has a lot to be proud of and still so much possibility and ability to grow if it were not for those with the majority of power that is not being used for good or in the best interest of the majority of US citizens. Love the architecture and old districts and those trying to preserve the environment, farms, seed diversity and best of what made the US great.

I have a thought for you. Start a go fund me and do a cross country trip of both countries and experience the difference yourself. I’m sure your regular subscribers would love to see it too. I’ve lived in both countries and I’ve settled here in Canada. Not saying it’s something for everyone but do a tour and see

OMG I laughed so so hard when you read the French comment (I’m French Canadian too)… he made you say it three times ??? priceless!\nMy personal answer would be : no, I never considered moving to the US. I considered Europe several times (went for exchanges in England and Russia a decade ago). Moving to US… for myself, I can’t see a good reason. Especially now… \npeople who are interested in the US are people who have career ambitions or want to make more money (like in Universities, finance, technology…). There is a second category of people, that I don’t think they use Reddit ;) Retired people over a certain age, they go live in Florida half the year and some decide to stay. There are also a small number of neoconservatives who think we live under a liberal dictature (yes, I’m looking at you Alberta), might be more interested, as well as our evangelicals too, since they want to insist on imposing their religion on everyone else. \nSo, mostly : climate for elders, ambitions (career or financial) for youth, ideology for some others. Maybe love too !

Tyler, I can see you are sadden by these reactions and I feel for you. Honestly, I love the USA and I would actually live there in a heartbeat for all the positive reasons I know and love about the US. However, as Mom and a soon to be school age child, I would hesitate because of that. Canada has its own issues and don’t let everyone fool you. It’s not some social utopia. We have problems too just different. It’s like you said you need to pick a good, safe safe to live in. The same advise applies to Canada. Also, Reddit is full of your not so typical Canadians so take with a grain of salt ?

I could see myself adapting to any part of the world. I love visiting the USA! Such a beautiful country, just like Canada. The food is outstanding and cheap! The people are friendly and outgoing! I would move there if I had a valid reason to. I'm happy living in Canada and satisfied just visiting various places across the US. It's always a treat!

@Tyler Bucket I've been to the US many time, and there are some very beautiful places there. I've found the people to be kind, warm and welcoming and I love visiting. If I had to move to the US I have a list of favorite places, but honestly, I love living in Canada and being Canadian. The US would be a good alternate, but unless somethin catastrophic happened here, I can't see my self living in the US.

I suggest google’n “ school shootings, small town America”…. article after article, when you do, says why most mass school shootings tend to happen in small towns….where nobody expects that they would have happened & how all the residents in those towns are always surprised that they happened in their town. \nI say this as somebody who once loved the idea of moving to the USA. \nMy mom was a single parent and as a result I spent a ton of time as a very young kid in the late 80s throughout the mid 90s in a small town in Oregon on my aunt and uncles dairy farm with my cousins and I absolutely loved it. Truthfully, I still love small-town America and I love the vast majority of the people I have met from small-town America. There is the friendliness and community that I find very similar to prairie farming towns in Canada. \n And as a kid, I loved the focus on high school sports in the small USA town I spent time in and how it brought the community together. It was very exciting to go to my cousins football games—stuff like that was super fun as a kid.\nAs an adult, with 2 young kids of my own now? \nYes, I would be terrified to send my children to any school in the United States, especially knowing that the vast majority of my school shootings do happen in small towns, which is a type of place in the states I would personally like to go to, if I did move. \n\nAdditionally, I will be completely bankrupt at this point given my own health issues as well as my two kids health issues and I’m just in my late 30s. \nAnd I’m not talking to super crazy health issues, but health issues nonetheless. I have asthma that has gone through patches where I’ve had to be hospitalized & I was diagnosed with stage 3 malignant melanoma when I was in my late 20s and pregnant with my 2nd. My first child was born with a congenital heart disorder that was missed through the pregnancy and until she was two, and that involved many many trips to the hospital & various specialists until they figured out what was going on (one of the symptoms was her randomly stopping breathing and going blue, which was terrifying, and could’ve been for many different reasons & it took many specialists & many hospital visits to figure it all out)\nMy son was born with a multiple protein intolerance and later received an autism diagnosis. There a decent number of hospital visits and specialists for his first couple of years of life too. \n\n I have no idea if I was in the United States how I would’ve paid for any of our health issues (let alone all three of ours) for that 5 or 6 year period where we all needed various types of regular-ish medical care. \n(because we got good medical care, thankfully, none of us have really had to see doctors any more than the average person in the last few years?)\n\nMy kids are now in elementary school, and, as a Canadian, the issue of school shootings happening anywhere….., including in small towns that seem perfectly safe……as well as the cost of healthcare for stuff that is covered by our taxes here in Canada….. are the two biggest reasons that I will think fondly of my time in small-town America, but would never consider moving there

I would consider living in the USA but I would lose many of my Canadian veterans benefits and services that I currently receive. My grandparents are from North Dakota. I could use that to get citizenship through derivation… but then there would be the requirement to file income taxes in both countries. Any tax free benefits I get as a Canadian vet, would loose their tax free status and become taxable if I claimed my citizenship… so I have decided not too. If these issues were not in play, I would consider moving to northern Minnesota or Montana or Vermont. Somewhere close to the Canadian border, close to family but in a better climate zone. I like growing my own food and a longer growing season with nicer forests would be awesome. The climate in Manitoba is not the greatest for growing a variety of trees… and the trees do not get very big. I love Orlando and spend about 6 weeks a year there… but I could not see myself living there full time. Sometimes I will drive the 3600 km south to Orlando and I get a really good view of the wealth disparity in the USA… So that alone, I am happier in Canada… knowing that there is a better safety net for us should a situation in life happen that would leave you broke and homeless in the USA

Would you live your life under a corrupt government? Would you allow the Mexican police/gangs/drug lords, to walk in your home, kill your children, your family, got no reason and get away with it? Canadian here, and this video is right on the money for some of the most frustrating things about Canada! \n\nOur proudest achievement is our healthcare system, but up until recently, the government has been choking it little by little. Making it so difficult for any Doctor/Nurse to even consider finding work here (and making it impossible to afford getting a medical degree) because you are literally doing it for the love of the game at this point. \n\nEven if you become a specialist in a specific field (which pays really well compared to most careers here) it is unlikely any hospital will hire you. Our hospitals are only interested in making profits by pushing painkillers on Canadians, rather than hiring medical professionals to help fix them. If you become a family Doctor, it is a bit better, because you can open your own practice. But kiss your social life goodbye if you do! The most annoying part of this problem is some people blame all this on the fact that we have healthcare and assume a private American system would be better. Where the real problem is we need more workers and funding into our healthcare to make it better. Not making lives harder for poorer Canadians!\n\nWeirdly enough our Tax system issue didn't stand out as a problem to me until I left Canada and see how taxes are marked elsewhere! It blew my mind that I didn't have to do math when I visited another country and the way we advertise wages is purposely deceptive! In Ontario, we succeeded in getting a $14 hour minimum wage (only in Ontario and maybe one other province). Which sounded amazing until you realize that's $14 without tax... To compare, I was incredibly lucky in Toronto where I found a place for 750 a month and was earning $16 an hour. Sounded like more than enough for the cost of living, but after taxes I was pretty much putting more than half my monthly income in rent. On top of that I had to pay for student loans and other bills. \n\nBottom line, if you are wanting to move to Canada for our beautifully scenic environments, free healthcare, and a stable job? \n\nMove to Finland.

Ive been to Greece, Ireland, England and Scotland. I will agree that tap water and food is alot healthier abroad than in the states. Public transit sucks in most American cities. There are trains EVERYWHERE in the UK. You can walk a block and see a train there. But the sprawl here is the problem so you mentioned that. I will say Americans are friendlier to tourists than most foreigners, but most Americans are really mean when they travel abroad, so I guess that would balance out. The cost of living argument is hard to agree with, but I wasn't there during the rent hikes, I came back from UK right before they happened. I've heard inflation everywhere is bad, but maybe not in Canada. Love your guys' videos. Keep it up. I always show these to my girlfriend to start discussion/find common ground, and they have not once NOT worked, so well done.

I’m traveling rn, so I talk to a lot of internationals about the pros and cons of American. The greatest pros would be we are definitely the land of opportunity, so if you want make a lot of money there’s no country better. The people also have this optimism about the future that’s not as prevalent around the world, and the country is very diverse which means you can find a state that matches you want. However the downsides would be the stark wealth inequality, and lackluster healthcare. The polarization between the left and right, and the crazy urban sprawl which you never get used to.\n I think the inequality is due to us having this bootstraps mentality when it comes to success. Whenever I tell other Americans how lucky I am they’re quick to say that it’s all due to my worth ethic, but life is a lot more nuanced. Regardless I still love my country, and can’t see myself living anywhere else. ??

Yes the racism is very high here. \nMany people come here for a better life but that is very hard to find now days in Canada. Governments here, on every level have let Canadians down . They stopped investing in affordable housing. They haven’t provide enough placement for education of medical staff over decades and now we don’t have enough nurses and doctors. \nWe need better educated voters but of course they don’t put enough money into education. It’s seems people prefer voting for bullies rather than people who actually care about the people and the land that feeds us. Jagmeet Singh is s good leader but would Canadians vote in a person of colour with an agenda to actual help the people and the environment, probably not. It really is sad because Canada did provide a lot more for people in the past. But it’s always been a racist country unfortunately, just look at its history. \nI love this country and I see the politicians saying oh free healthcare doesn’t work while behind the scenes they are the ones not providing the training of medical professionals. You don't get a reward or a claim for car insurance unless you get in accident ffs. If you (who ever feels this way) don't see the benefit of paying these bills, nigeria would love to have you guys back I'm sure. High cost of living? Isn't it the same in Lagos? And there an no amenities? Taxes? The good roads you drive your car on, the hospitals etc, they don't just appear magically - do they? Boring? Make friends, try new sports, travel to new places (within and outside Canada), explore, get a job(so at least you have somewhere to go? Home sick? Grow up or go home - period!! I'm from Quebec and i love every Provinces, in 2017 i did a roadtrip to BC and when you see Canada for the first time by road it's just amazing to see how big Canada is: Canola field, Bison, endless horizon, mountains, blue lakes, awesome people from coast to coast, salty water smell when your near the sea of coastal province, beautiful roads apart from Quebec just kidding but not really....My friend and i stop at a A&W in Saskatchewan on Transcanadian Hwy and next to our seat was a group of farmer just relaxing and talking about their day and we would have love to just pay them a drink or something to just listen to their story what they have to say but we were a bit to shy because of the french accent and didn't want to bother them! For me every Provinces of Canada are the best no need for TOP10.

The U.S. is very large, and there are many different types of people and many different types of neighborhoods, cities, and communities. I have lived where neighbors knew one another very well, and their kids would play ball in the street or play baseball at the local park or playground. I have lived where there are walking trails where you would see the same familar faces time and again. I have lived where there were many community activities. There are places where you can find farmer's markets and where churches are large and hold events. Our town has many groups that you can join, and there is a local theater. There are cities of course, where you can find all sorts of things to do. People do have a tendency in many places to have their spaces, and as most people do have what they need within those spaces...and many are spending more and more time on computers and watching televisions, we are becoming more estranged than we once were. We have come to value privacy. But, again, there are many many people with many different lifestyles. Today I went to shop at two different stores and ended up in conversations with several people. One man invited me to visit his farm. One woman told me all about her home and garden. Another lady told me about her daughter and what was going on with their family. I did not feel like a stranger, and the people I saw working in different businesses today were talkative and interacting with many other people, including friends and neighbors and other familiar faces. it just takes a little effort to smile and to speak. That being done, I was very happy to return to my home and have my own space again, where I knew I could take a nap without anyone knocking unexpectedly on my door. So....it depends on what you want. I would hesitate to paint the U.S. with a very broad brush. \nThat being said, it is very difficult to leave your home behind. It can be very difficult to stop seeing differences because you did love so many things about where you grew up, though you might not realize how much you will miss them until you've gone. I feel that in myself, and I have to be very careful not to miss the potential and possibilities where I am, because I am always thinking about how I miss where I once was.

Great video. I am a Canadian that works with newcomers. I have lived abroad and back again. We recently did a trip to the U.S. A great trip overall but I agree with a lot of your comments about the suburbs. We saw some beautiful neighbourhoods in the US (and here in Canada) but there are almost no signs of life. I grew up in the suburbs and it was nice as a kid because we were always outside but as soon as I finished school, I couldn't wait to get out. My old neighbourhood is now a bedroom community built for the car. Now, I live downtown in a major Canadian city. My house is very small and old but I wouldn't trade it for the world. I always see people, rain or shine, snow or hail. I see families, dogs, dogwalkers, children, seniors with canes. I love it because I see life. Living in a neighbourhood like the one in this video would indeed feel lonely and isolating.

I've been living in Toronto my whole life and for me personally I wouldn't live anywhere else in Canada! I've been to Quebec a bunch of times but that's about it. Our Country tries to promote for Canadians to travel and explore our own country but it's stupid expensive. Why would I pay for a flight to BC when for the same price and time spent on an airplane just go to Europe! I go to Europe every year because it offers a million more things to explore. The other thing that sucks about Canada (though it's beautiful) it doesn't have a lot of major cities and the ones we do have are very scarcely separated. I love living here but if I had to recommend this country to a tourist, I'd say meh just go see the US because it has the same and more.

I can’t say I agree with Quebec as number one, tax rates are huge when you factor in property taxes, car insurance, plus they have the most expensive gas, outside of NFLD. The people are mostly rude when it comes to those that cannot speak French (yes I’m unilingual English not by choice, my hearing is bad). In support of my opinion, I have travelled (camping) in every province and territory except the Yukon. I have met some amazing people kind, friendly helpful, sadly I cannot apply that to Quebec. I wish this would not be the case as there are many parts of the province I would love to go see.

Heeeyyyyy Arms. So news from England, we've entered a state of emergency with Omicron and we're seeing some deaths. I'm Covid negative but for reasons that I can't go into, I haven't had my 3rd vaccination (until January). Would now be a good time to tell you I'm a Stage 3 Kidney Failure patient, meaning I plan on being in Vicar Street on Wednesday but if I catch this 'plague' I may not be strong enough to survive it. Therefore please can I thank you all (especially Flanagan) for making my final days joyful and if you don't see my presence anymore online then, you will know why.
