Circumstances and proximity made Canada rely on trading with its neighbour, the USA. In 2024, 75.9% of Canada's total exports went to the United States. \nWas it convenience or laziness that made it so, or Canadians’ trust in America being a fair partner? \nPresident Donald J Trump, you have insulted Canadians and the whole United States will harvest the consequences. \nYou had negotiated the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) to replace the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) calling USMCA the best deal, and recently you called your deal the worst deal. \nYou can be the Manchurian Candidate as much as you want. You seek to destroy Canada. Go ahead, do your worst. Keep being manipulated by the Putin and Musk of the world. \nThis is the last time you will use this closeness between Canada and the USA to hurt Canada this way. Does not matter how long it will take, Canada will diversify its trading practice to foolproof itself from future fools like you, elected to the oval office. \nNeighbours, Canadians will remain, there is no way of moving Canada to a different place on this planet’s map. Canada may remain an economic partner, but a close friend, you can forget it. \nThere is a motto on the licence plates of vehicles of Québec (in case you might not know Donald, it is a province of Canada, not part of your fantasy 51st state). I'm from the UK and I am very impressed with the Canadian Prime Minister's response, what a contrast from the felon in the White House. I have been researching which Canadian products are available here and will be switching to them and away from U.S products. And to ordinary Americans who are as disgusted by their leadership as so many of us around the world are, I hope you will be able to reclaim your country back from Trump and MAGA who are doing so much harm to you.

I am American independent voter who vote against Treasonous Trump this past election of 2024 in favor of Kamala Harris. While many of my fellow Americans voted for Trump many others like me did not. Now so many good and event Americans are going to suffer because of many Maga or Maga supporting Americans who foolishly chose to support Trump and his lies. How people could seemed to forget that Treasonous Trump, not Joe Biden, was responsible for the current sate of things following the pandemic is beyond me. \n\nMaga and Maga supporting Americans have been conned again by Treasonous Trump, who not only failed to properly respond to the Covid pandemic but also incited and or encouraged many of Maga supporters to essentially attack the US Capitol in hopes of stopping Joe Biden’s Presidential Certification. Those in the Inter national world are not alone in their condemnation of the disgrace and embarrassment that sis current US President Trump. True Americans who believe in our constitution and rule of law as decreed by the founding fathers of our nation must unfortunately bare part of the shame Maga America has brought upon our country as a whole.Truly good and decent Americans must bare the shame of now living in a country that much International world now no longer trusts and has lost respect for. For all the hateful Maga thinking and or supporting Americans there are as many truly good non maga Americans who want more peaceful relations with allies in the international world. I'm doing ongoing research to cease any spend on any US product or service. I'm buying software from Europe, using Posteo for email, deGoogling this year and vastly reducing Youtube. I trace all groceries to eliminate anything US sourced and I now check that products are Mexican and Canadian as much as I'm able and they are supplying. I've stopped planning trips to LA and NYC, I might resume if American voters ever have the good sense to vote en masse against obviously fascist plans and personalities. I've holidayed in Mexico three times and would visit Canada and Europe in future. US is not safe for everyone any longer, not even its citizens and looks to be getting increasingly insecure and offering prosperity only to the already mega rich through crooked policies and agencies. Every week or two I double check the facts on groceries and online products/services to make sure I'm not accidentally buying American. The election was so compromised in November I'm glad people are realising the only action we can take is with our wallets from not logging in to 'big tech' to buying bread and apples etc.

As a german I can okay say wow. What a difference. That’s the way a leader of a country should speak and behave like. Not like that child and clown in the Oval Office who is so much in love with himself. Do the people of USA even have the slightest clue how the country looks like to the whole world for so many years? Amerika used to be THAT country everyone wants to go to finally see it. I’m not particularly a savvy political person, but even I could see this coming. Trump/Musk have chosen to start a war against our own people & isolating us from allies & neighbors is a particularly bad move. Who will defend us against Russian aggression when we have no allies & friends left. And make no mistake-this fits right into Putin’s plans. If The US is no longer able to stand against him, who will? It has been a balance of power that has kept democracy flourishing and given Americans so much freedom & prosperity. On the note of minerals, I would love to know, just how much of its mineral wealth and 'sovereign' land does Ukraine have to forfeit to satisfy the US and Russia... Probably all of it. Justin, let’s look at the record of your friends in the West. USA has over decades bombed and killed millions of Muslims in Arab countries. Today the murders continue to go one without a peep from you or your western leader friends. In the last week the US has bypassed Congress to ship billions of dollars of bombs to Israel so Israel can with these US bombs cleanse Gaza. So Israel can steal the Palestinian lands so Trump can built a resort and hotels in these stolen Palestinian lands.\nSo what about Ukraine? Same story, different tactic. NATO with your consent poked the Russian bear for decades before Russia, whose warnings about NATO expansion went unheeded. Russia had no choice but to fight a proxy war with Ukraine as US kept on shipping dollars and weapons to Ukraine ‘to weaken Russia’. When you won the election, Justin, I thought that a younger Canadian whose father was one of the most independent thinking leader, that you would take a history lesson and realize that the US foreign policy over decades has been the cause for so much complicity in so many countries around the world. I respect you so much for this, Mr. Trudeau and I do not blame you. I wish the people could do something, but the people have spoken and no one listens. We are just trapped here. The reason for this is Trump wants industry back in the US, and as long as people buy things from outside of the US cheaper, that's not going to happen. Thus the tariffs. That's what they're for, protectionism. Why he pretends it won't be bad for americans or that they won't be paying more for products, I don't know. Perhaps his way of preparing people for bad times. Or the wishful thinking bit he swears to. Whatever. But what sane person would build up an industry predicated on Trump being consistent and willing to stay the course? An industry that would fall apart like it's 1920 the moment tariffs end? I predict noone.\n\nI have some experience with Clark, he was an insightful man during his command in Europe. It should be concerning when he can't see a reason for these actions, for cozying up to Putin and alienating allies. There's no end goal here that is in the US' interest. Trump's cabinet is not interested in this sort of thing, they are domestic dilettantes. There is no 4D chess. So what is the deal? Is it just his anger at Zelensky for not investigating Hunter Biden during the election? It seems... a bit too much for that, despite Trump being known as extremely spiteful.

I have so much respect for the Canadians! You do what you have to do to protect your country, it used to be the American way too! Could Canada Win a Trade War?\n Trump has waged Economic War on Canada in order to bring us to our knees so that we will eventually capitulate to become the 51st state.\n\n Had he come in a nice way, as a friend verses a foe, he would have had a lot more interest, especially from Alberta. \n\n Now that we are here, the question has to be asked, can we actually win a trade war that has probably been extensively war-gamed by the U.S.?\n\n Our politicians want us to go toe to toe with a 900 lb gorilla. The U.S. economy is at least 10 times our size and are less dependent on our trade than we are. We may give them a black eye but they could rip our arms and legs off. \n\n Retaliatory tariffs play into their hands. It’s the perfect excuse to increase the tax to 50 or 100%. So will we do the same? This would devastate us, achieving their goals.\n\n Canadians are already fighting back without the government making things worse. People are boycotting U.S. goods en masse and cancelling travel plans, etc. and this is already having a strong effect.\n\n Some say turn off the electricity and oil, but who will pay price? It will be the businesses and employees, not the politicians who are now trying to act tough. If we want this to turn into a real kinetic war, then turning off the taps may do it. \n\n We have seen countless times where politicians tell us what we want to hear, making us think they are heading is a certain direction, only to find they do the exact opposite. This proves you can not believe what career politicians say and have to go by what they do, or don’t do, instead. Yet now, they confidently declare that Canada will never become the 51st state. This should raise eyebrows. \n\n Almost all of the MPs and Premiers are unanimous in entering into a trade war we can not win. After tariffs go ballistic, our dollar drops to .35 cents, and we get utterly crushed, I can see them say, “in order to save what’s left of our economy and society we must reluctantly join the U.S. or face certain destruction”. \n\n Not only would the decades old goal of a North American Union be accomplished, but we would take a large step towards the video statement that the World Economic Forum - WEF posted on their website. “By 2030, you will own nothing and be happy”. \n\n The WEF is working with the UN to achieve their Agenda 2030 goals and is what Pierre Poilievre and the “Conservatives” signed Canada onto Sept. 27, 2015. This is what Trudeau has been implementing. Mark Carnie, Pierre, and Jagmeet Singh would finish off the job. Read the redistribution of wealth goal #10. Are you feeling poorer yet? Remember, one has to dig deeper to see through the document’s ultimate double speak written for public consumption. \n\n There is much more going on than meets the eye. Our best defence is to not play into their hands. A much better plan needs to be developed by minds who see the big picture for creative solutions, and it does not seem to be those in office now

I’m just so sad and that the current american administration is trying so hard to make us hate each other! \n\nWhen things get bad, in a couple of weeks or months for both of us. Trump and his media Will absolutely blame Canada, not just for trying to defend itself, but for all of it. He Will try to make americans hate us so much so he can get something out of it and thats so wrong.\n\nI have so many memories of traveling to the US and meeting great people there. I am a Canadian living in the states and, Living very good off of what I get from the states for I have not worked in 27 years because of an injury. The U.S.A. has been better to me than the country I am a citizen of Canada. All my life my very large family in Canada come here to the states and goes home with the bumper or trailer hitch hitting the ground for it would be overloaded with products from the states because it cost so much less here.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau thank you for your address to Americans, to the american Bully in chief, and to your people. I am among those who started pushing back before trump took office, many are. We’re watching legislation and countering it. It won’t be easy, but we, the other half who understand that trump is crooked and dysfunctional, will not give up. Generally, Americans are not great when it comes to hitting the pavement and letting our voices be heard, but we’re getting much better. We need to be more like France, but without the destructive automobile fires and other property destruction. Life will be hell here, in my own democratic country, until the Bully is gone. I want the entire republican party gone, they only serve themselves via stock insider information, and messed up wishes to control a dystopian society while kowtowing to the billionaires. I want the democrats rebranded to acknowledge the important social programs we have. Let’s face it, they did not protect us from this trump/project 2025 takeover. Instead they allowed unchecked lies, and the ability to buy his way into office with so many felonies under his huge belt. In a country that is intellectually compromised, lies are very effective weapons against democracy. We need better hate laws to control this lying issue.

Americans obviously didn’t understand what tariffs are, didn’t get that it’s an import tax which they must pay on goods and products they buy from Canada, a tax which tRump collects from Americans and uses to pay for tax-cuts for the richest citizens. It’s heartening that so many nations have solicited Canada, offering alternative sources for common US exports to Canada —citrus fruits, pharmaceuticals, and other manufactures, to name a few.\n\nI don’t think Canadians even realize how big this unofficial boycott is getting because it’s growing so fast. I’ve never seen a surge in Canadian patriotism like this. Never in my seven decades —which includes the two Referenda on Quebec separation. In a sense I know why (optics), but in another sense, I don’t. Why do so many insist on retaliating against Trump’s tariffs with more or higher tariffs of their own? Maybe he should discuss the constant duty fees and border crossing fees for anything shipped from Canada to the USA that have been constantly rising for years; fees that his very own government sets. Maybe he should talk about Canada demanding that anyone that sells anything foodwise to anyone in Canada from the USA has to have a special Safe Food For Canadians Food License or the goods being shipped will be rejected at the US owners cost, seized by the border and held in storage at the US owners cost, and destroyed and billed to the US owner. A license that no one actually needs considering other legal and ethical controls are in place to prevent unsafe foods from crossing the border, but Canada reserves the right to make us pay for one or we suffer consequences. Maybe he should discuss how they left their borders open to migrants, making it much easier for criminal migrants to get into the US. These tariffs were a long time coming and if any of you are on the inside of trade in the manner I am, then you know what I'm saying is true. The US is constantly paying additional tariffs by way of duty fees, customs fees, certain applied taxes (like there is literally a blueberry tax to ship US grown blueberries into Canada to prevent US blueberries from taking over the Canadian blueberry market). The blueberry tax is about 25cents per lb. which drives the price per lb. up for the seller and buyer. You wanna know why Food costs so much? All of the above with a huge side helping of GREED.

Canada has been the preferred access point for criminals and terrorist for the past 4 years. I have a place right on the border and 8 months ago I caught a young East Indian who already had several felony in the states and had been shipped back to India in previous years. How the heck did that man get a student visa to come to Canada. There are 50,000 East Indian Students missing in Canada who simply used the visa to get into Canada and run the border. This is what we’re are dealing with. I live on the border and I’ve never seen this much traffic. Border guards are simply picking their targets and having to ignore others. So I ask u how do u think I feel about my property being used as an illegal highway bcz of your government incompetence. As someone who also works in native communities throughout Canada I’ll also Trudeau words fall like shit from ass. The drugs have ravaged native communities to the tune of 3/4 of the young ppl. The reason for this 'trade war' is not about 'trade'. It's about 'creating chaos' so that president Trump is the 'centre' of world attention. A malignant naracistic individual apparently cannot have anyone seemingly to be 'doing better' or being more successful than he is. I think these words mean nothing, one shoudl look at actual data. There have been a tremendous imbalance between the US and most of the world. US produces so much, have so many resourcers but could not compete. Instead, they were forced to open operations in foreign countries, which does not benefit US taxpayers. You like it or not, US was on a downhill if other countries would not agree to make American products competitive.
