Love immigration but hate tax funded Temp workers . Bad deal for Temp workers and very bad deal for Canada. Young people , seniors who needs a few hours to make ends meet, people living outside cities, adults returning to work , uneducated but hard working folks , disabled people and others are unable to find work . In the old days people would worry about jobs being outsourced overseas and now the work still being outsourced to Temp workers . This in turn ,is worsening the homeless problems throughout Canada. In-hand earnings for skilled expats viz. students, temporary workers and working holiday visa holders is lower in Canada compared to the US …the only attraction factor/appealing end-result for expats including potential PR applicants is the probability of a PR visa and the cost/effort needed to obtain PR. The problem is not legal immigration. People who come to Canada legally have the means to pay rent because they have work and some even buy properties. THE PROBLEM IS ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION!

I came to Canada in 2020. I studied for 3 years in London, Ontario, and moved to Toronto 6 months ago to work. My opinion is that the city of Toronto is deeply ill and something is definitely wrong. I live and work Downtown, and have to pay 2650 CAD/month to live in 400 sq ft inside a condo. There are no trees/wild animals within many square kilometers of my house, but there are a lot of homeless people and dangerous drug addicts. I learned the hard way that living in Toronto and visiting Toronto as a tourist are totally different things. I hope to be able to leave the city as soon as possible, and possibly get back to London.

I have worked in Australia, Europe - UK and Germany before moving to the US for my master's degree and worked there for many years. Then moved to India and then to Canada. If you are a tech worker, there is no country in the world more accepting than the United States. Period. \nIn US, people respect your talent than what ethnic background or linguistic background you have. People are more tolerant and accepting, and even let you go up the ladder. I work in small towns across Canada and over the years, I’ve seen these charming towns, such as a Yellowknife, Whitehorse, Meadow Lake Saskatchewan, turn into Punjab . And sadly as much as the Punjabi culture is fascinating, Punjabi people do not have Canadian ways, nor are they skilled in our national languages, which makes it very difficult for Canadians to interact with them, or get served by them at the service jobs. Just ordering a coffee at Tim Hortons. It has become stressful. Nine out of 10 times I’ll get the order wrong because of language barriers. I am all for multiculturalism, but there is no more Canadian identity left in Canada.

My US work permit got approved yesterday! Ive lived in Canada for 29 years but it started going steeply downhill around 2018 and the 2 years of covid were rough. I opened a business in Canada with a partner in 1974. By 1985, in spite of having a successful business, I moved to the US in 1985, and have never looked back. Canada was moving in a direction in the 80’s, that I could see was no longer a fit for me. It's too expensive to live in Canada as an entrepreneur with unstable income and it's actually better to work remotely in a cheaper country, even if it's less stable. \n\nAs a few other comments have noted, many issues North America has developed are global issues. Many people don't realize many of the issues are from Central Banks lowering interest rates to zero or negative all to back stop aging demographics. I left Canada finally after many many years of debating for myself. It’s the best thing I ever did. I have a really good job, that pays me more than three times my monthly overhead. After literally struggling in Canada for 30+ years as an adult trying to keep a job amongst colleagues that hate you for everything that I was and wasn’t, had and didn’t have. I’m very happy that I left and can go to work peacefully everyday, without needing to feel like I’m a piece of crap that doesn’t have the right to exist. I came to Canada at age 12 with my parents. And was always called names, always under minded, overlooked, put down, bullied and never had a single job that also contributed to my pension. Lived in the US for 4 years and bought 5 rental properties in my home country. Now I'm retired at the age of 34. It was the best decision I have ever made. Re: career opportunities. I am a Canadian citizen. I worked as a land surveyor assistant from 2017 to 2019 in Alberta. I had very few career opportunities. My supervisor didn't bother to teach me the trade. I was just assigned to be a pack mule/hole digger. I had a geomatics diploma and intended to become a surveyor after working as an assistant for 1 year. I waited 3 years and didn't make any progress. I was so frustrated I moved to France. France has way more opportunities for me. The salaries are lower. But the cost of living is lower too, and the hours are around 35h/week (vs 80+ in Canada). Yeah, it's legal for tradesmen in Canada to work 24/4 day shifts with 12 hour days. This doesn't take into account the 1~2 hours of unpaid work every night to write field notes and charge the batteries/cleanup the equipment. It doesn't help that the salaries are hourly too. So in the slow months you better have money saved up, or you'll be begging for food.

It started when Canada govt wants all cheap labor truck driver, mechanics, carpenters, ets that they call trade field and gave PR to them, govt could have called them on temporary work visa can gave PR to only with cream part of people from all over as even pakisthani , bangladeshi, other south asian and other tropical people who look like Indias are normally blamed as bad people.

Im my experience as a German the “unskilled” foreigners usually learn German pretty fast while the “skilled” somehow expect that everything needs to be in English. I get that learning languages can be hard, I speak 3 and am currently learning Portuguese. But it’s just a necessity if you really want to live in a place for a longer time. I haven’t yet visited a country where once you leave the urban areas you get along well with English. I’m often shocked how little German a lot of people speak that have been working here for years. If I go to Brazil for example I don’t expect everything to be in English, I try to make use of my little Portuguese and am grateful for people that do speak english. I think a lot of the issues stem from comparing Germany to UK, US, Canada that are native English countries. Or small countries like the Netherlands that have to use English as a primary language in many businesses because there are just not enough dutch speakers.

Probably Canada is making more money thanks to the savings of those who are moving in Canada and bring here all they have. In addition to these money Canada has the continuously financial benefit from the relatives of emigrants who send money or visit and spend money in Canada. I don't know if there is a statistics about this but probably somebody know well. Thus Canada is spending less than is gaining by the emigration system. Another aspect is related with the family problem. It seems in Canada there are many separated families, divorced. Probably this is because Canada is taking emigrants good for work by separating from their familiei. It was not different in the past with the slaves. Thus the people arriving here are missing the solidity of a complete family , with parents, grand parents, grand grand parents. A young family has more stability living with their large family. The disruption of the family by the emigration system has the result in more people living alone due to divorce.

I totally agree with you...I moved to Canada, to join my wife who was born here and moved overseas with me. She came back 5 years ago and I joined her three years ago. For her, this place has changed alot, and not to the better. For me, it was a shock, as services here are much less than services in third world countries. I am not planning to leave yet, because I still have faith that we can work with other Canadians to make this place better. However, I am not having any real hope from the ruling class who are all willing to enrich the pockets of the few oligarchs they seem to serve rather than working for all of us
