If Indians went back collectively to India from US and left all leadership positions in American companies, you will have at least a 30% drop in your economic metrics. I know it won’t be easy but, Toronto has a lot of resources for immigrants and even undocumented immigrants. I worked for a shelter and although it was the only one that takes undocumented families, you learn there are resources out there. \nIt’s about aligning yourself with the right community support Center, finding the people who will fight for you. There are so many people here who welcome and want to help all types of immigrants. No matter your background.\nThe people who work helping these communities they are ruthless in their fight for citizenship, or at least finding you a job and home, they will guide you through the system. Social workers, ones in community resource centres, not government centres, will be your best friend. They know where the red tape is and the resources available to you. \nYou could even go to a specific shelter to t all out your options and where you could go to get help.\nI understand this is not ideal. \nBut, if you want to be here, your best friends are non-profits, finding a center that aligns with your story, your background, because they will fight for you. We have people here from every country and resource centres geared towards your own language, religion etc.\nAnother big way to set yourself up for success. Churches, rich churches to be specific. \nMy mom works in a very rich church and it helps them feel better about themselves helping people, you could be nice enough to alleviate their guilt through their wallets, and connections. Under the table work, shelter, space for your family, set you up, they might even have the lawyers you need pro Bono in those rich churches. Church shopping, do not be above it if you don’t have resources. You don’t just get help, you build a community and support system through a common bond, the church. \nI know these aren’t revolutionary tips, but without specifics of your background it’s hard (for me specifically) to give specific advice online as to what services could be provided for you.\nIt’s kind of like a doctors appointment. You need background info to diagnose the resources for you and how to access that help.

Many Lower Class U.S citizens who do want to move for better job oppertunites for skill working who want to move to Canada. There is an issue for many. That is Canada is backwards on the helping those with disability and getting assistance or help for any disability. Those coming to Canada if husband, wife or child has a disability they will discriminate against them, especially if the person was on SSDI or SSI. If your husband/wife, fiance/fiancee has disability but you have duel citizenship between U.S and U.K they make it hard for prospective significant other that is on SSDI or SSI from coming to Canada with you and see them even if they were Self-Employed in U.S as a financial burden. Many I know have dealt with this stigmatizing by Canada over a disability significant other so they live in Canada but work in U.S to keep from Financial struggle Canada puts on them for daring to fall in love with a disabled significant other reguardless where the disabled significant other is from which is very, very sad.

3:53 born and raised, I worked in the fine/dining as secondary job most my adult life, ITS 100% BS THAT ITS EXPECTED. I don't care how it started but if you did just your job a server you get just the hourly. This idea that tipping is standard is basically rewarding bad behavior.. something I refuse to.\n\nIv had the odd waitress get snarky and if the food was high quality, while the service was garbage. Iv gone directly to kitchen staff and given them a tip cutting the server out completely normally they only give 10% of there total tips to the kitchen and I don't know any one server that claim more that 35% of there tips come tax season.\n. ohh I should mention prior to covid lockdowns a decent sever at an average bar takes home an average of $200 a night on top of their hourly wage so with the standard of 15 per h that's 120 + 200 that is 320 in a 8 hour shit that $40.00 and rough hour after 37 since I don't know a single one paying the proper taxes. I make 100,000 and I get 60K not 70K...it depends where you live and if your work has a Pension. Living in Quebec I pay one of the higher taxes in the country and a pension takes off several thousand extra as well.

I almost feel all religion should be completely private. Any suggestion of any religion publicly should be illegal. Christianity/islam etc. You cant discriminate against islam. Structural racism in Canada continues because of loopholes in the system that allow discrimination against minorities to continue. I will tell you why. Most decisions are made by the individuals workers who are not going by the laws of the Companies and Government Institutions and they use their power to discrimate against you based on their own biases . That is what I have experienced. I hurt my back picking up five residents in a day at work and let me tell you the process has not been easy. Everthing I say to them or paper that I gave to them from my Doctor is not good. Even if they have facts before them you are not to beleive. More strong laws need to be put in place to protect minorities.

Okay. A lot of people here have no clue how the immigration system works both in the US and in Canada. “He should just have come here legally”. Well, most of the time a legal path to emigrating to the US/Canada just does not exist, and its getting more and more impossible to be granted asylum. In the US you can’t just apply for a work visa, you can’t just apply for a green card. You got to be eligible to apply for it. For a work visa you need a job offer first, you need proof of income and most of the time the employer will have to prove they couldn’t find an American to take the position. To get a green card you either have to get married to an American, invest at least $500,000 or try applying for asylum (which is almost impossible to get nowadays). ALSO to apply for asylum you need to be either inside the US or at a US port of entry. Try to be less “patriotic” and more empathetic. People flee their countries because of war, violence, cartels, gangs, terrorism, etc. They are desperate and want to protect their families and have a better life. If you were in their shoes and staying in your home country put your family in great harm you would have done the same thing. People need to stop judging, stop being selfish and start leading with empathy.

If we want to have equality lets just rip this off like a bandaid. Equality - no one gets any special treatment based on their race or gender. No special funds locked behind race. No special programs locked behind race or gender. No more pity partys - just equality. Take full responsibility and accountability for your own success or failure and earn your keep. Born to a wealthy family? Lucky. Born to a poor family? Unlucky. Either way you have more class mobility in a capitalistic western society than anywhere else in the world. Work hard and you can have an entirely different lifestyle in 3-4 years.

If there is a problem with racism in this country, or any other problem, you need to stop taking this emotional blaming approach. Identify a problem, back it up with concrete data, and lets work towards actionable solutions.

The problem seems to be that the premier’s don’t know the definition of systemic racism. Systemic racism is about institutions, governments, banks, schools, etc limiting access to minorities all minorities. It’s worse in Canada than it is in the US. Look at Canada how many black are in people if government are represented in the government. Look at the companies you work for how many minorities are CEO’s or CFO’s how many VP’s. This is why I say it’s worse in Canada than the US, cause at least in the US upward mobility is not limited to only one minority group but all visible minorities.

I'm calling bs. I grew up in Scarborough, the schools in my area were mixed Caribbean, Canadian, European, Indian (and other South asain), Chinese (and other East Asian), middle Eastern, African, Latino, everyone went to the same school. Everyone's families were and are poor going through the same struggle. By the time I got to highschool I took the higher level courses, I went to class everyday, I wasn't a smart kid I didn't get to uni, I took a bridging program in college and got into uni. It's not hard to climb the latter in Canada if you work for it. Meanwhile at the same school a large percentage of Carribean and Somalian black students do not go to class, they skip, they dont care. In fact these same kids picked and made fun of the Asian kids that did go to school. They have zero respect imo. You can call me whatever you want I am just speaking my personal experience. School never seemed like a priority to them. I'm not Chinese or Indian but those 2 cultures always seemed like the hardest working. Those kids went to every class and got the best grades. Again Caribbean and Somalian black students in my area were more likely to be distruptive in class and get into fights. As were Greek kids and Canadian/Irish white kids. I am only pointing out the black students in relation to this video. Personal accountability is important, I don't disagree there is problems with the system but let's not act like there isn't a problem within black and even poor white culture itself. Sometimes you have to look in the mirror.

Is this more of a US / Canada thing? How is it in Australia? I ask because I have never experienced this in the UK ( brown Asian for reference). I am wondering if it is more relaxed in the UK or If I am so lost in my own world that I don’t notice if the staff is following me. \n\nIn my experience, if you look lost, someone might casually ask you if you need help. I work with a variety of people from all races and ages in my field. I wonder how much of how people treat individuals have to do with how booked they are. Regardless of a person’s race, I notice that if I am short on time or have back to back appointments \n, that I am not as attentive or as interested in people. However, if I limit myself to three appointments a day, I am an attentive and genuinely want to do my best at my job. So, because I know this about myself, I choose to limit my schedule to three appointments a day unless I absolutely cannot prevent it. I am a minority, too, and have been profiled left and right. My husband is Caucasian and thinks it’s in my head, but he can look like a bum and not be profiled whereas if I am not dolled up going to the store, you better believe I know not to put my hands in my pockets.

God this documentary is so flawed. The symphony? Really? You are comparing the 50s from today? There were much less immigrants in Canada back then. There were less immigrants and ppl of color that played instruments. And those that did, less of them actually tried out for a symphony. And then the blind resume test totally proved no bias. Hey Igor! I have a friend from Yemen who spent a lot of money in an attempt to get entry to Canada without success. He lost a total amount of $5000 to scammers. He saved a lot of money from his work in a GCC country and still not lost hope of migrating to Canada one day.

Psychology student here. In the interest of accurate information, I would like to point out some flaws I find with some of the studies in this documentary and question the conclusions reached. I understand that CBC Marketplace are not personality psychologists and therefore cannot be expected to produce the same quality of work as a scientist. However, I think it is worthwhile to think critically about the information in the media that we consume. I am also open to anyone who wants to engage in debating the contents of this documentary.\n\n\nThe following are some notes I took while watching the documentary outlining the individual hypotheses of the studies I think are flawed and descriptions of their respective accompanying errors. \n\n\nThere are three possible research questions, and thereby dependent variables, being answered by the apartment hunting studies.\n1. If there is no discrimination between the white man and the first-nations man, then they should get equal treatment, including quotes and availability, when apartment hunting. \na. Could the gender of the landlord be a confounding variable (perhaps men are more discriminatory than women)? \n \n2. If there is no discrimination between the white man and the first-nations man between Toronto, Montreal, Regina, and Victoria, then they should get equal treatment, including quotes and availability, when apartment hunting. \na. Could total apartments visited be a confounding variable? (4 in Toronto, 3 in Montreal, Regina, and Victoria) \nb. Could the gender of the landlord be a confounding variable (perhaps men are more discriminatory than women)? \nc. They only showed the black man apartment hunting in some of the trials. I am considering him out of the study for consistency purposes. The first-nations man is the only one who got unfair treatment in the footage of apartment hunting. \n \n3. Possible hypothesis: If male landlords/agents are more discriminatory than female landlords/agents, then the white man and the first-nations man will get different treatment at different Canadian apartments in equally diverse cities. \na. Don’t know all the information about the genders of the landlords/agents, not all the footage is shown, but the ones where they get ripped off are male. The others shown are female. The remaining interactions are not shown.\n\n\nThere are also some factors that may have influenced the racial bias survey and, in my estimation, rendered it scientifically unreliable.\n\n\n1. The bias survey and accompanying tests at the CBC attributed the differences between the studies to unconscious racism. What if it was just due to familiarity with certain racial groups over others? \na. The black participants had no bias between European-American and African Americans, supposedly indicating no racism, while the white and first-nations participants did, supposedly indicating racism. Is it possible that another interpretation of this result is that bias is a function of familiarity: that we are comfortable with the majority demographic in the geographical location we live in, as well as our own kind. Therefore, the black guys are less biased against black people due to being both black and living in a white majority demographic? \nb. The participants took the survey knowing the objectives of the researchers was to study racial discrimination. They might have influenced the answers they gave \nc. Whether the participants agreed with identity politics or not was a confounding factor that was not controlled . You can only be racially unbiased biased if you think that racial identity is a means of accurately viewing the world. People who do not believe in the existence of identity politics may answer the questions quite differently, which could be a different reason for the results.\nd. I took the study myself. The words that participants were required to match were a mix of adjectives and nouns. It is known within psychology that nouns have higher levels of imagery. This was not properly controlled and therefore is another confounding variable. \n \nAll the other studies looked fine to me. I welcome any discussion on my observations.

I live in a supposedly muslim country but if you wear hijab or god forbids niqab you are discriminated against. I was literally told that I shouldn't bother applying for a job in a certain company if I'm wearing a hijab. so I am a woman who isn't white and who is wearing hijab. finding a job in my field of work turned out to be such a hassle.

I think CBSA and CIC should look into fraud regarding work permits, Chinese students using ghost companies to gain work experience without even working in the company. They pay this fake company to do the paperwork as if they work in their office just to gain work experience and then get PR. These companies promote their service all over Chinatown in Toronto. They will take care of everything, you don't need to be in the country at all or even show up for work. Yes I am snitch whatever..
