It's not zero sum game. It's pretty foolish for US to treat Canada such a way, they are not only their neighbor but, their ally. Furthermore, US crude oil production is at deficit if compared to their consumption. So, if Canada stop exporting crude, US economy and industries will collapse.

I’ve read many comments urging Canada to reduce its exposure to the us. It’s reasonable but that doesn’t happen overnight. Refineries, for example, are custom built - they can’t process all crudes. They’d cost several billion to build and at least 3-5 years; plus, you need railways and port infrastructure to ship out oil or its byproducts. This should have been started in 2017 (trump’s 1st term). In the short term, free trade zones within Canada and Mexico may alleviate some of the tariffs.

The US has a trade deficit around $1 TRILLION. So, this isn't anything personal against Canada; I think Trump wants to impose tariffs on ALL imports to encourage domestic manufacturing and flip the trade deficit. He's just using situations of importance to also gain political leverage.

We are proud to have Prime Minister Trudeau lead the charge against the bombastic Trump trade war. It is unlikely that our MAGA Conservative leader, Pierre Poilieve, currently supported by Elon Muskrat and many of Trump's cronies, could ever deal with a trade war that would defend Canada.

The reason trump can get away with it is, Canada, Mexico and China export way more goods to the US than we do to them. They're going to pay a lot more over time. Trump knows he has them by the gonads.

Canada and Mexico should trade directly with each other via marine shipping and bypasses the US altogether! Just saying
