What I don't understand the taxpayers are the ones that are flipping the government's tap. The billionaires are the ones that are causing the deficit to be so high. I am really sad to see Canada slide. The USA is loaded with 20th Century industrial equipment that still works. Industry really is important to countries with plenty of resources, as Americans are finally realizing.\nToo bad that Canadian agriculture is such a small part of its economy. Indians have used Canada like a flop house. Indians go to diploma mills and try to use it as a backdoor to stay in Canada. This includes: auto theft rings, synthetic ID/credit fraud, gun and drug smuggling, and one of the largest gold heists in Canadian history at Toronto Pearson airport. Americans have stated that the top nationality entering the US illegally from Canada is Indian. The drugs they are complaining about entering the US from Canada are almost entirely brought in by Indian truck drivers (Google it and find many examples). A Fentanyl super lab in BC capable of producing over 95 million lethal doses that was busted was run by an Indian. This is now threatening trade with our main trade partner as a trade war has just started. ENOUGH ALREADY! Indians need to be sent home, and banned from entering Canada.

All joking aside, Canada has been able to form a symbiotic relationship of mutual benefit with the United States since even before NAFTA 1. But.......... right now it is almost like a 51st state and I do not mean that in a joking way. US states are always competing with each other, but what prevents things like, oh say the American Civil war from happening is the Federal apparatus keeps them in line for the good of the empire as a whole. \n\n If Canada is like a 51st state, then it is competing with the other 50 states in a way that all 50 of them are going to get upset about. So either the states complain, or you treat Canada as an economic competitor. Mexico being behind the United States and Canada is what makes it a good candidate for a symbiotic relationship. For all its problems, Mexico has a Christian population (with some indigenous traits) that goes well with America. Their nations different economic status means we can support them and they can support us doing different things for countries of different development stages.\n\nCanada being so similar to the United States will want that as well and will never outbid the United States. Again this is seen as a hostile economic competitor. \n\nIts not Canada or Americas fault. After 2007 and the lies about fanny and Freddie, leman bros, mortgage backed security's, and a cash shortage that was not real. How was it real if the offshore exchanges did nothing? 2007 was not financial in origin it was our global monetary system seizing up. Canadians are educated in school about the states. We learn American history. America is taught nothing about Canada.

Increase access to unused and agricultural land in urban arease\nImpose export tariffs on construction materials\nReduce union fees for construction workers\nRemove municipal restrictions on high density housing\nReduce temporary immigration\n\nJust a few things that would help the housing crisis. A housing deficit serves only the investors, it's time that the state produces housing at a reasonable price. Might be wishful thinking, but we need ways to keep housing affordable.

As a proud Albertan the only ways Canada can succeed in the future is vast sweeping reforms across the country and government at all levels or joining the USA and getting a fresh start for each province. If non of those things happen we will fall so far and probably end up a failed state by 2040

The reason real estate prices have gone 300% but incomes only 100% is because of low interest rates. If you factor in carrying costs, the numbers aren't as extreme. The challenge now is that interest rates have increased to stave off inflation generated primarily during the covid years. While this has somewhat abated, real estate carrying costs remain elevated and price growth has stagnated, while the Canadian dollar has fallen, effectively resulting in reduced housing valuations (in US dollar terms). Can we ride this out until incomes catch up? Will productivity increases promised by leading political challengers (election coming this year) move the needle? Are tariffs and 51st state rhetoric just a negotiating tactic and bluster, or something real? Nobody knows, but we will find out..

This video and these comments are so shocking and depressing. 10 years ago, people still widely praised and raved about Canada and it was a leading country in healthcare and standard of living. Now people are saying the complete opposite and saying it's in a terrible state. I know countries have their downfall at some point, but Canada, of all places, having a really horrendous \n economical crisis is so hard to grasp.
