Aside from what was said (making more money), other reasons why many immigrants would fight tooth and nail to get U.S. citizenship are the fact that the U.S. has a bigger and wealthier population, which translates to American companies getting more investment money. And in turn, are alot more willing to invest more of that money into their employers. Other underlying reasons include an overall warmer climate, rich pay less taxes, and the fact that an immigrant finally obtaining U.S. citizenship is considered a status symbol. \n\nAnd there are other reasons why Canada government is far more immigrant friendly. The government wants to increase their country's population to at least 100 million, and that isn't possible with Canada being one of the numerous countries experiencing a decline in baby's being born. I don't think anyone truly understands how difficult, time-consuming and painful the US immigration process is unless they either work in the system or have immigrated. My dad has been waiting for an F4 visa since 2007 (priority date December 2007) to come to the US and be reunited with his family, It doesn't look like he'll get the visa within the next 5 years even though he's been waiting for 16 years.He's just one of the millions of people trapped in the broken American immigration system.His experience has thought me to never even try to immigrate to the US.

I think you need to do some reading up on gun violence in the US vs Canada if you are so shocked. The numbers are very high for the US. Canadians spend a lot of time watching american news sources to see what fresh hell our neighbours are participating in. \n\nI have a hard time finding the motivation to even travel to the US and I want to do so only to visit family history locations. And some beaches. But I have decided not to go cross borders.

Hi Tyler, born and raised Cdn here. I have American relatives and ancestors. I spent a lot of time going to the States to visit them when I was young and US felt like our big brother back then. Nice, clean, safe, fun and just big. Heck, when I was 15 I even took the Greyhound bus from Toronto to San Francisco. I've been back a few times but last was in 2015. Lkg to come back maybe this Christmas. I know media is biased but to give you some explanation, we don't have guns up here to the extent you guys do. Of course we have crime and sick things do happen up here but, we don't have to fear that every single person we come in to contact w is packin a gun. And the news intensifies our fear of that one aspect of your country's culture. And yes, the amount of mass shootings at schools terrifies us. I am sad to also see the political extremism in the US now. I miss the US of my childhood and certainly do agree, small town rural people are salt of the earth there. I even found New Yorkers nicer than Torontonians.

This Canadian lived in Orange County CA for 10 years. I took my the 12 year old with me. I had been offered my dream job and was paid enough to have a good standard of living. However, I lived in an immigrant community to save money as I found many of the high schools were horrid compared to Canada. I had not realized the school to school inequality to be so extreme and my kid changed to independent study at home. So with a Canadian elememtary education, they graduated high school a year only while skipping no courses..\n\nMy kid had medical issues and even with good HMO insurance, we could never get a decent diagnosis until it had gotten so bad that their digestive system was so wrecked. I finally sent them back to Canada for the surgery that we could not get in the USA. It seemed the insurance companies kept getting in the way. And in one case a doctor went all religious on us. After 6 years of almost continuous pain they finally got relief for a decade until the prior damage came back to haunt them However, after a year of university ib Canada my kid went to a private university in the eastern USA. They have decided to remain in the USA and now in their mid 30s, they make really good money anf have top line medical insurance which pays for the ongoing care they need because of the damage caused by delays when a teenager. \n\nI found life in the suburbs of Orange County nice but the OC is not a good place to meet people. When after 10 years there, in 2010 I returned to Vancouver to care for my elderly mother. I had been living alone for 6 years by then and was offered the first job in Vancouver anything close to me dream job there. and I returned to Canada at age 59. I had been approved for a green card in 2008 but there was a 6 year wait for it to come through. But I noticed the racism in the USA start breaking out all over the place when Obama got elected. And it has gotten worse and worse every year. Especially with 45 enabling it so much. \n\nMy circle of friends in Southern California are mainly good people and not at all like what we call MAGA-hats now. Except one who thinks 45 was the greatest. Politically, the USA is on the path that Germany was on in 1933 and I fear for the US Democracy if the Orange One gets in again. Even my kid and their spouse have bug out plans to head to Canada just in case. This is why my kid, while having a green card has never taken US citizenship. Besides, being a Canadian has not affected things the two times they got security clearances \n\nWhile most Americans are good people, it seems that about 25% have gone just plain loco and care nothing about democracy. And appear to prefer the USA to be a totalitarian theocracy \n\nI was there long enough, paying the maximum FICA taxes for 10 years to get a small pension from Social Security and I have Medicare Part A. I can afford to buy parts B and D but I see no reason. I have even better coverage in Canada for way less cost. The USA has a nice warm climate in many places and I just loved that. But otherwise y'all have too many people who want to turn the place into an intolerant police state and to return the country to 1950s levels of intolerance, So in my retirement, I will stay here in Canada. Even though I could go and move in with my kid in the USA and get onto US Medicare.

Hell no! And that is coming from someone who has family members living in the States, was married to an American and has spent a lot of time there in New England, and in Florida. Titusville area of Florida is like my second home, but I would never move there. Not a fan of people having to carry guns with them everywhere they go, and healthcare for profit is wrong on so many levels. I have firsthand experience with that and it was as frightening as the gun culture down there.

This is not a secret weapon for the Canadians it is a ticking time bomb which is going to blow up in their Collective faces. A nation should have strict laws on who can immigrate there and who can become citizens. It is their right to control their borders. Try to get citizenship in Singapore or Malaysia. America as a Melting Pot has low immigration to give immigrants time to assimilated to the American way of life so that they can fuse the best of their culture with ours. A Melting Pot does not mean wholesale immigration without limits Canada's lax immigration policy means people will inevitably seek out their own cultures and former countrymen and integration halts.

Bringing all these different cultures together… but if too many from one country show up, they’ll make a community too large that they don’t need to melt with the population. There are Chinatowns and Little Italys and whole Mexican communities, but ultimately everyone has to interact with everyone else. Allowing 300,000 Indians to get green cards every year and only 1,000 Norwegians would lead to the Norwegians merging well with the country, while the Indians would all move to one or two cities and make entire sections of the cities like small versions of their own country. Which is the last thing we want. Once an immigrant community gets enough power to be a voting block, things are scary, but once it has enough power that they start getting their own representatives and passing laws for the rest of us? Laws the look like laws they had back in their own countries… that led them to run from their countries in the first place? It’s a concern. We want people to adapt to the USA and not try to adapt the USA to them. Over time, the US does change due to the growing voting blocs. But that’s after generations of those immigrant populations getting larger, and their children being born and raised in the country they’ve adapted to. When I see a protest of Muslim immigrants burning pride flags, or Chinese and Spanish-speaking Hispanic immigrants who never bothered to learn English, I see problems with our immigration system. But the kids of the Arab immigrants will be more tolerant, and the Hispanic kids will have grown up in American schools. Most Chinese-American kids might speak some Chinese at home with their parents, but they’re worse at it, and their first language is English. It takes second Generation immigrants to really start meshing with America. But if entire school districts are all Indian, and every store, restaurant, and business in a whole town is Indian, then those kids won’t adapt to America. They won’t get bits of their home culture from their time at home and with their neighbors, while also getting bits of American culture from their classmates and other people around them. Nope. They’ll only be exposed to the first Generation who completely took over the area- IF, we allowed for unfettered immigration from the largest countries. It’s a fact that immigrant communities like to stick together. But if not enough people are in that community that you need to reach out to others around you, it helps expose you to the rest of America… Anyway! There are a ton of shows that indirectly show this phenomena. Fresh Off the Boat. The Sopranos. Even Brooklyn 99. We see as traditional and hard-to-adapt parents have to deal with kids in the next generation who are more American, don’t follow the same customs and traditions as their parents, and overall just left more of their old culture behind. No one is asking that immigrants abandon their cultural ties, but if you come to America, there are things that people need to change and accept if they’re going to live here.

All I can say as a Canadian is why would anyone want to move to the USA.The more I learn the more I love where I live the USA is a hot mess and watching the kind of people that you elect is mind boggling . Why would anyone support a bottom feeder like Donald Trump to run their country. You don't have to be a scholar to realize this man is beyond corrupt and a really bad person. I was a French exchange student for my masters at UCSD. I met my current fiancé a couple years ago at the start of my masters and he proposed right before I left. I just got my appointment at the Paris embassy, a year after we started the K1 visa process. It’s a long, expensive and very frustrating process but I can’t wait to marry him and go to the beach again! When we first submitted our application and we looked at the wait times with the lawyer, I was so relieved to see that for French immigrants, the wait times are 1/10th of most other countries. China, Philippines, India and South American countries have it way worst. Great video as usual ❤

At 65, I have managed to visit 35 of the US states. Each time I returned to Canada, I got down on my hands & knees to kiss the ground of this country. I felt instant stress relief as soon as I did return safely. These days, I never want to step foot there again. To make life more interesting, I have a brother in Chicago. There’s an oxymoron. He is a trucker that likes Nascar, has no children of his own & married a lovely American girl who already had children (now grown). He sees the variations between counties - he stays for the $$. He comes home for huge doses of Canada & family.

As an American living in Canada for almost 50 years, there is absolutely no way that I would consider moving back to the US at this time. The political environment has become so polarized and, quite frankly, I'm really worried that democracy is in jeopardy in the United States. I echo the sentiment of all those who have said that the gun culture, racism, misogyny, and lack of equal access to healthcare are all excellent reasons to avoid moving to the US.

Someone was also funding a mass misinformation campaign telling poor ppl in Latin American countries that for a limited time our borders were fully open wo restrictions w citizenship for all who came. That was funded and perpetrated in the weeks leading up to Title 42 ending. Id absolutely LOVE to see who funded that misinformation campaign of TV and radio spots saying this. It would be sooooo enlightening to trace the chain of money used to pay for those radio and TV spots and caused the mass rush at our borders. The report on where that funding came from would be enlightening

I really hope you read these comments Tyler. You are so blinded by the American propaganda machine and I really suggest you at least do some travelling out of country for a prolonged period of time to see how the rest of the world really is. I hope some of these harsher comments at least open your eyes. I am born and raised Canadian who used to spend about a month a year in the states and now I can’t say I’ll go back. The gun violence just in the last few years is sickening. Having bad places to live doesn’t apply to the US anymore, everywhere is bad to live and it’s only a matter of time before the reality comes to YOUR small town. Usually I really like your videos but this one hits a little too hard on how everyone in America has been brainwashed into thinking their normal is ‘great’. Being a bit desensitized is a complete understatement. The saddest part is I think it’s too late for the US now.

No offence to Tyler, but the number of school shootings I've seen covered in the news from small towns in the US is extensive. I've seen countless small communities in the US rocked by mass killings, usually taking place at schools where children are the main targets. And every time I see one of these stories, there's always at least one distraught parent explaining how this type of thing never happens in their community and how they never thought it would happen to them. I find it interesting that Canadians are generally more informed and aware of the prevalence of gun violence in the US compared to actual Americans. School and mass shootings happen so frequently in the US, that I no longer even look into the stories. I've become completely desensitized to them and unsurprised whenever I hear about the most recent school shooting. My perception is that nowhere is safe if the US, even if you think you live in a small, quiet, safe community.

I’ve been to the U.S a couple of times, not in the last 15 years though. The times that I went I really enjoyed it and found people to be very friendly. Americans that I have gotten to know who live here in Canada or have been visiting, I have also found to be quite friendly.\n\nAs I type this you are talking about the importance of making sure you move to an area in the U.S where there are like minded people, like mined political views etc. that’s such a strange concept as a Canadian, because we don’t really have to think about that in terms of where we would live in Canada. \n\nMaybe you should come and visit us here in Canada? There could be certain limitations that you have become used to living in the U.S that you might start to see more clearly when those limitations are not there.

I lived in the US; Virginia for 13 years. For the most part the people are lovely... just like a lot of places. If you treat people with kindness; they usually return that kindness. At least that is my experience. Mind you, I came home in 2006. When I lived there the political climate was completely different. I would absolutely NOT move back to the US. When I came home to Canada; I was so grateful because I had to endure 2 years without Healthcare when I really needed it. I lived on pain pills at that time. I was in a wheelchair by 2008 and so grateful that I was home where my country took care of me when I was unable to work, or even walk. \n\nPolitics has changed so much since then. It was always kind of poler, but when Donald Trump entered the scene; it has become just awful. Again, I love the Americans for the most part, however there is so much racism, homophobia and hate displayed in the country right now. I pray every day that Donald Trump does not become president again. I fear for the United States. I love her as a sister to Canada; she is. I want her people safe...

The single issue I would have would be the healthcare one. But as of now, this year of our lord 2023, Canada is on a slip-n-slip straight to socialist hell. And I would have a difficult time finding any other reason not to choose the US. Even with the health care, since the pandemic - and possibly because of mass firings - our system has been so stressed it's now actually as dire as Americans have always believed it was. On top of that, people in need of life saving surgery's are being refused if they haven't been jabbed, people are literally bring left to die. We have a housing crisis and a homelessness crisis, so what does our government do? Brings in a bunch of economic migrants to further stress our system. All in all, the US would be a much better option today.

I'm in my 50's and have thought about it many times. My dad is from NY but now in Florida. Several things that bother , me include your attempt at healthcare ( if you take care of one person you take care of ALL of them - you don't Cherry Pick), your gun issues (just because you have the RIGHT to bear arms, doesn't mean you have to), women's healthcare, Jeez, it's the woman's body not a guys body, so stay out of a woman's rights and body unless you happen to be her gyno. I'm not impressed with your general care or respect for human rights unless they infringe on your American rights at which point your pastors, religious zealots and politicians all go bat shit holy mother of god crazy. I don't mind visiting my family in TX, TN and WA but your country , THE USA, seems more like a gong show hyped on anabolic steroids and waiting for a triple dose of 'something special'

You know what i see people saying oh they wont follow laws they'll take our jobs our housing yada yada ya which i get but at the same time....THESE ARE HUMANS...WHAT ARE THEY FLEEING FROM? There was a time I would have. My father and Grandfather grew up in New York city as children and spoke highly of the States. Since 2016 I would seriously not consider living there. The gun violence that occurs their has gotten to the point that it has to be especially eggregious before it makes the news. The cavalier attitude towards guns and gun saftey is disturbing even from your politicians. it would be a recipe for loosing your privalege to own a firearm in Canada if you did what many of us see americans do with their guns. Open carry. Not allowed. Concealed carry. Not allowed. There are courses you need to take and pass on firearm saftey and gun use here, before you are given the privaledge of owning a firearm. Those firearms need to be stored properly or carried in cases at all times when not in use \n\nThat being said I have done those courses and I own guns. Rifles to be precise and a shot gun I use for hunting food. Pistols are not easy to get here and you can only use them on a range. The only people legally carrying pistols in public are the police.\n\nHealthcare is fine if you are young and healthy, with a job. If i showed up at 53 with a handfull of pre-existing conditions, I would be in bad shape.\n\nYour record on lgbtq+ and a woman's right to bodily autonomy is back slipping to the 1950's. Some politcians (not sure what level, state or federal) are looking to even reverse the position on interracial marriages for pete sake.\n\nI think if Voter appathy is allowed to continue, the vocal minority of people who want this will get their way despite the fact that the polls suggest the majority of americans hate what is happening

Spent a fair amount of time in America, in many area's. \nOptically, when well positioned in the US, life can be lived at the highest standards available.\nMy American friends are congenial, courtley, generous and caring, excellent neighbour material.\nWould I consider it, as a seasonal choice....perhaps?\nMoving there full time, nearly came up professionally a few years ago, and I was willing to explore it.\nThe gun culture, the health care, the cultural divides, and its insulation from world awareness, make it a no for me.\n\nCorporate America clearly dislikes, and is disengaged from the American people, do anything to not pay them resonably, or outsource their positions.\nThe homeless, the substance issues and the crime are all core related to outsourcing the livelihoods of mainstream American's.\nFinally, I have a Canadian passport, which anywhere in the world is access to at least a neutral welcome, but more often a genuinely receptive one !

As a American there is a lot of things to say, I want to in the future duel with the uk/eu or Canada. I’m surprised they haven’t talked about the high excelation of racism, and as a Asian person it hasn’t been fun. Until we at the lowest minimum (not my actual minimum) fix our healthcare system is close to nhs that is basically free healthcare payed by your taxes, then I don’t see much people wanting to go to the states; aside from maybe university. There is a lot that plays a role, but in my eyes living in Cali or Portland or Seattle or nyc are the better places. One thing that I’ll say is though we need higher wages, I think that is kinda something we get more at times than other countries to a extent.

So I work for a us company. I have for 5 years. in my industry, tech, pay scale is a lot more positive in the states than Canada. I have been offered several times, to have my move paid for, visas and all that jazz, and I still haven't made the jump. \n\nMy salary is also comfortable enough to afford health care, and I still haven't moved. I don't think Americans realize how poor their insurance is. Also have health issues in general.\n\nI also participate in sports that cause injuries (notice I implied I will definitely get injured). I would not want to have American coverage, in fact how do Americans financially justify casual sport activity.\n\nI won't go into political differences. It's extremely nuanced and an extremely interesting conversation. I don't like the Dems very much and the repubs are even worse. \n\nAll of this said it's always on my mind. Its a consideration but seems unlikely. Arizona/Utah/Colorado are my jam. Would love to be there, if it was Canada.

Omg.. I am shocked at how shocked Tyler is about people's concerns about school shootings? . I listen to a lot of American radio and media and I hear frequently a lot of Americans talking about how this day and age how sad it is that they have to worry about their kids going to school. Tthe areas that this happens in or that parents are worrying has become more and more not just in certain States and I'm pretty sure I hear of like a mass shooting period in the United States is at least a couple times a month. \nThere's been so many school shootings I can't even keep up with all of them ..

I have found that the vast majority of Americans to be kind, generous people but the only reason that I would move to the US would be for a career opportunity not found in Canada (entertainment, athletics, certain medical professions come to mind). Otherwise the overall standard of living and political climate in Canada is much more amenable to having a happy life. My son recently moved to the US as a professional athlete. It will be interesting to hear what his perspective is over time.

I've only ever lived in Canada, but have been to many parts of the US, and my honest answer is: probably not. Don't get me wrong, there are many places and things in and about the US that I like, but, unless I was offered a job that was too good to turn down, I don't think I could ever live there. One of my closest friends is American, and lives only a few short hours away, but...Possible exceptions would be places like Maine or Vermont. I've read a stat numerous times over the years, that there about as many people in the US who cannot afford health insurance than there are people in all of Canada. It's a shame because the USA has top tier medical facilities, but access is not guaranteed.\n\nPS: from a Canadian perspective, I really enjoy your honest reactions, and applaud your efforts to educate yourself. My American husband and I choose Canada when we first got married due to health care and educational reasons. My husband has been in Canada for almost 13 years and says he would never move back to the US. I joke about moving to California or Hawaii (somewhere warm) any time it gets to -30 Celsius or colder and he says over his dead body will he ever go back.

Money is the only reason to cross to the US, and frankly, you couldn't pay me enough. I would make somewhere between 3 and 4 times the pay if I moved my career to a US city. Not worth it. \n\n- It's a country where the number one cause of death for kids under 19 is mass shootings.\n- There is political and racial violence and threat of violence rampant everywhere\n- the USA has 60 times the number of active serial killers at any given time as the rest of the world COMBINED\n- Educational standards are abysmal in many states, particularly the red ones.\n- Hand in hand with that is a general air of ignorance that is impossible to ignore or live with\n- At least one third of the population is afflicted with a strong case of Dunning-Kruger effect, and elects only those most strongly afflicted...\n- People are still fighting for basic rights and still being vehemently opposed.\n- 35 million Americans have zero medical insurance, and another 80 million are under-insured, versus zero Canadians.\n- way more people possess guns than are mentally equipped to handle one.

He stated a couple of times that you need to be strategic in where you live in the US when speaking of gun violence. I could live anywhere in Canada and not worry about my kids. Also, what can you expect from a country that believes 1/3 pound is less than 1/4 pound. Don’t believe me? Ask A&W…they tried to sell Americans a 1/3 burger for the same price as McDonalds 1/4 burger and it flopped, Even though blind taste tests proved most people thought it was a better tasting burger. Maybe if you ( Americans) had adopted the metric system, you wouldn’t have that problem. America is on of only 3 countries in the world that still use the imperial system. The other 2 being Myanmar and Lydia.
