Chokor Millionaire, I don't agree absolutely with the blame on the government. At least from what I have seen in Ghana, people are starting businesses.\n\nI am going to say something I observed about Ghana. I found out that women, as usual, are more hard-working. I realised that the men don't have work because they are lazy or have too much pride. I have watched so many videos where so many business owners complain about the ineffectiveness and inefficiencies of the workers. They are not dedicated when they work for other people. I watched these business owners whose workers in the farms are mostly women, and they were very happy that women are easier to control and have good work ethics as opposed to men. The men prefer jobs where they don't use their energies such as Yahoo Yahoo boys, selling in shops where they don't touch anything or lift a finger.\n\nGrowing up, we knew that men were supposed to do the hard-working jobs in society. But these days, men like to idle around and touch nothing. The reasons being that the African culture teaches us that men are not supposed to do anything at home. They are supposed to be served by women. Then, instead of the men going out there to do the hard work and make the money, they wait around expecting cushy jobs that don't make them lift a finger.\n\nLook at China that you mentioned. These boys work absolutely hard. Even in the villages. Look at Muslim countries. You will never see women working on the streets. The men are even the ones who cook the food on the streets and sell. Check countries like Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka. In Africa, most things are done by women.\n\nAll this japa that people are fighting for. Have we ever thought of the agenda of these people needing free and cheap labour? I came to realise that we stupid Africans don't yet understand. Our children eventually become strangers, and we remain just surrogate parents. Most of our children are never going back to Africa, and when they get to an age, they become like strangers to us. Whatever we say, they look at us like archaic. What then makes them Africans anyway. We have seen so many of them who barely know their countries of origin and have never ever been there. They do not know their relations. In fifty years' time, that generation has lost their roots, and was that our intentions initially? This all dawned on me recently with my children, and I feel absolutely dejected because they are not interested in our country. All my hard work is gone down the drain, and all that can happen is for us to leave our children behind and live like people who never had children in the first place. For now, most people see it like something to be proud of, and are happy to say ( my children live abroad). Africans are the most stupid people I know, and that is why we are always used for slave labour. Why are they all approving all these visas and allowing all these people to drown at sea? \n\nThese countries allow these fake visas deliberately because they drain African countries to enrich their own since they can't get the minerals easily these days.

I am an immigrant from South Africa here in Edmonton since June of 2023. What the brother is saying is true. Canadians make no room for the human element in the workplace/environment. Everything is based on productivity at the expense of your humanity. They also treat workers as very expendable and disposable. The fact that they import so many foreign workers to do certain jobs is perhaps a reason why born Canadians no longer want to put up with the exploitation (I don't know if this is the true reason though).\n\nCanada is very convenient, and public services and infrastructure are amazing compared with South Africa. But the rest of the culture is very sterile. Tim Hortons, Starbucks, and Ice Hockey are considered cultural identities. Maybe the older generations had a distinctive culture, but most Canadians of today's are only interested in consumerism and the car lifestyle. If you are looking for people with warmth and depth, you will most likely find it with fellow immigrants (and maybe the poor and marginalized communities of Canada).\n\nCanada is a very safe country, and South Africa may not be worth it for me to return to. But the strongest element I thought for coming to Canada was that people here appreciated life and each other. This is not true. Canada is 'stable and happy' because the people are intoxicated by the comfort that material wealth provides the individual (despite all their complaints and problems, most Canadians still lead very comfortable and easy lives). Take away their comfort and materialism, and they won't know who they are. They won't know how to stand together either since they have been so strongly conditioned to live for themselves as individuals.\n\nCanadians are known for their politeness and friendliness, and this is true. But there is a big difference between politeness and kindness (and being genuine). Canadians are not kind.\n\nMy opinion is obviously limited and biased. I am sure there are wonderful and pleasant exceptions. But I will still limit these as exceptions. \n\nThink hard before choosing Canada (and perhaps also the USA). Unless you have a strong community to support you here, it will be a lonely and alienating experience.

I left Canada 15 years ago, initially with the perception that Canada by and large did everything better than everywhere else. I found our quickly that this was absolutely not the case, with Canada’s shortcomings being easily apparent. As I visited “home” every year the downhill trajectory was more and more apparent, to the point where I would have no desire to go back if not to visit family. Canadian health care is mediocre, transit is inefficient, culture and quality of life are virtually non-existent. Get out while you can people, there is nothing in Canada that you can’t find better elsewhere.

I'm not sue what most of you are talking about Canada being safe ?? Gang shootings and killings everyday , car jackings. There are homeless camps everywhere. All the rest stops along hwy 1 in BC are full of people living in rv's and trailers, drug use everywhere. Our health care is free because its terrible. Every hospital is badly understaffed, patients have their beds in hallways. If you want anything done quickly you have to pay and get it done privately anyways. Oh cant forget our taxes. Gotta love the made up carbon tax. I pay 52% income tax. Food and gas prices are way higher because of all our tax. And last but not least real estate and rent cost. Average detached house in the greater Vancouver area is almost 1.3 million dollars and the average rent for a 2 bedroom in Vancouver is $3900. I was born and raised here this is not the same country I grew up in and was a proud citizen of. Our country has fallen.

I’m born & raised in Montreal, Quebec and while it’s extremely multicultural and has an incredible education system, we have been experiencing a continuous housing crisis. Every year the rent prices and general cost of living are skyrocketing yet wages remain the same. It’s actually becoming a huge problem in Montreal. Young people are being pushed out as prices are starting to little by little be comparable to Toronto. \nAnd don’t get me started on the hate Anglophones receive here. Even Montreal natives like myself who are historically English get discriminated against every day. \nThe Quebec government is pushing the English language out of Quebec, making it harder and harder for Anglophones to be able to function and live practically here. You can’t even go to the hospital and get service. If you don’t speak French you can’t call and speak with any government services, and even businesses are forced to have French names, and only conduct their business in the French language. \nI myself am bilingual, but for someone who doesn’t speak the language, or is learning having trouble it’s nearly impossible to live in Quebec as they wouldn’t even be able to get a job. The discrimination Anglophones receive is insane and we are seen as a ‘bottom of the barrel’ minority, which is so sad seeing that this is where I was born and raised and where I call my home. \nThey’re taking away more and more public & social services and literally funnelling multi millions of dollars of funding , which is desperately needed for homelessness and many other social problems we have within Montreal and it’s all now going towards pushing the French language in Montreal (we literally have what’s called the ‘language police’ who’s job is to enforce French. They will give businesses thousands of dollars of tickets and even shut them down all because someone is caught speaking English) \nHopefully something will change soon or else Montreal is going to continue to become a place completely taken over by hate and discrimination and it will experience a MASS exodus (which is already starting).

The most depresssing factor of canada is it's weather...\nIntially i was not realizing it bt it just dawned on me that how important is sunlight for your body and also for your mental health especially in winters......yahan pe sirf 3 mahine hi suraj rehta hai..june july and August .... september se leke may mid tak.rarely you will get a glimpse of sunlight...\nI mean you wake-up every morming nd its always dark and gloomy outside from September end till april end....you dpnt feel like doing anything...especially in winter's you wake up at 9 o'clock and 4 oclock its dark.....you have no idea how much it effects your mental health...people get depressed mentally and also gets deficit of vitamin d...also government have legalized Marijuana and saying oh it will make your mind feel happy and you will not get stressed anymore...i mean how come...government is killing you softly..they dont want you to think higher..they want you to leave behind....i realized most of the people suffer from knee pain..joint pain bcoz they dont get enough sunlight ....\nI read somewhere that most of the suicide case happens inthe month of January bcoz this is the month when people get more depressed....i must say comparatively to canada india is the best place to stay ....you will get sunlight whole year... also in Toronto there is no such social life as india ...so much taxes by the government...houses are getting expensive.....all you r doing is just work , come home. Of course, if you're successful elsewhere, why discard it to move to the West? Otherwise, this guy isn't saying wnything that's not alreeady known! He fails to understand that the quality of life is what you pay for. In developing countries, you don't get security, good publi education, utilities 24/7, a working government, no social safety net (aka welfare), etc and you're absolutely on your own. You can't discuss any one thing in isolation. The difference is day and night. Also, time is money and everyone has to be accountable and responsible with both. As an employer. would he appreciate his employees getting paid to waste either and get paid for it? A reason developimg countries aren't doing well is because they fail to understand this, hence the waste of time and everything running late and not as quality. If it was great, why are the developing countries' economies so bad. As an immigrant myself, I know, understand, and appreciate this and think until developing countries appreciates this, they will continue to struggle.

Beware of the single narrative. He’s speaking from his own experience, but it’s not the same as everybody’s. I’ve lived in Canada now for 4 years…got my citizenship this year. I lived in Nigeria for the 10 years prior to moving to Canada, and I also schooled and lived in the UK before that, so I speak with a wealth of diverse experiences. \n\nBefore you move to Canada or anywhere else for that matter, do the following:\n\n1. Research the country you’re moving to…what jobs are in demand, how that aligns with your qualifications…if you need to recertify or retrain in a different field. Many people move here thinking “oh I was a bank manager in Nigeria, so I’ll move here and become a bank manager”. It doesn’t work that way. The streets of Canada are littered with qualified medical doctors who drive Uber because they didn’t understand how difficult it would be to be certified to practice here.\n\n2. Find role models who are living the life you aspire to, or who have made similar moves and seek advice or guidance, and learn what they did right/wrong. Don’t just assume because your friend moved here, you can also move here and live the same life. You don’t share the same life experiences, history or have the same network.\n\n3. Before you immigrate physically, you have to immigrate mentally…be in the right mindset to live in a new country, understand their culture and learn to adapt. If you’re expecting to leave Nigeria and move to Canada to live a Nigerian lifestyle with “owambe” parties every weekend, or having 4 cars and 3 housemaids, then you’re still living in Nigeria mentally. Even Justin Trudeau does not drive 4 cars.\n\nI work in tech, so I knew that with God’s grace I’d find a way to succeed here. My wife worked in a Nigerian bank, and was able to transition to tech after we arrived here. Our combined annual income is roughly $500k, and we both work less than 40 hours a week, and I believe God will continue to bless us. I have easily 20 or 30 friends and colleagues who moved within a year or two of each other, and everyone is doing fine and working in tech jobs paying 6-figures. \n\nDon’t be discouraged by people’s failures and hardships. With the right planning and mindset, you can achieve your goals in any country. Reach out to people on LinkedIn, build a network and ask for advice (constructively)…many like us are more than willing to help.

Hello brothers and sisters I’m seeing a problem here. The interest rate in the late 1970s and early 1980s interest rate was 12-18%. People\nComing now are in MUCH better financial condition then people who came then with nothing. The difference is two main things: many new immigrants don’t have the same drive and motivation that previous immigrants in terms of sacrifices such as not driving a mustang, but they also didn’t just settle for labour jobs, they used their brains and began business along side labour. Second thing is, the immigrant wants to see the result before putting in the work. If after getting out of the horrible conditions of India and coming to Canada, a country loaded with opportunities, you still have difficulties then you need to change your expectations and work ethic to match, if they don’t then don’t complain. Cost of living is not the issue, it is the false expectation that they give themselves. To be quite honest with you it takes most immigrants one generation not 5-10 years, so either start working smarter or wait to have this reflection of what Canada is like until you have lived here for 50 years.

Comments from a Canadian. Homeless people are generally concentrated in the larger cities but in the past few years it has become a real problem. It is a real problem for the people when the temperature drops to -30C. Mental wellness is a huge issue. The racism issue is mainly against the indigenous. The doctor migration to the US is a money thing, not better conditions. Getting a family doctor is easy in some places and difficult in others, generally in rural communities. Getting a reference to a specialist is not an issue and I believe this may be a doctor specific issue. If your GP does not refer you, ER will take care of you. The issue with referrals is the triage system that may result in a longer wait to see the specialist. This is in contrast to the US where one can see a specialist very quickly, if one has insurance. In Canada, every citizen and legal resident has the ability to receive medical care as covered by the provincial medical systems which differs from province to province. Many doctors are now offering online communication with your GP and specialist. Your finance comments are inaccurate. There are 5 nation wide banks but there are also nation wide credit unions and provincial banks which in my opinion these tend to offer better service than the big 5 (exclude National Bank, which is big bank but more investment focused). Cell carrier monopolies is a real issue. Cell carriers are recently offering unlimited data, no long distance to the US, etc. Other countries have a definite advantage here. The government has enabled conditions for a new carrier a few times but eventually, these smaller carriers get swallowed up by the big national carriers. More recently Rogers bought out Shaw which limits our choices further. Sales tax is not always 10-15%. In Alberta the sales tax is 5%. Passing courses and evaluations ensures there are standards which is a good thing. Would you want a Civil Engineer designing a road or bridge that is not suitable for the climate? How about a doctor with questionable credentials? Agree with your recommendations for hiring. It is expensive to hire and train a new employee but can be much more expensive to fire an employee. Agree with the housing crisis comments and the reasons. Getting an absent owner to fix a property? This is crazy inaccurate. Multi-dwelling properties have property managers paid to look after the properties regardless of who owns it. While on the average, foreign investment may not seem to contribute to property prices, this is not the case when looking a the local sectors of the big two - Toronto and Vancouver. There was a case in Vancouver where a property with a shack sold for over $1MM. This is not because the house price was unrealistic, but because of the property location and perceived property value. This is a direct result of foreign investment in houses in the Vancouver area resulting in a lack of properties. Many of these foreign owned single family investment properties remain empty most of the year. Another big issue in many Canadian municipalities is the lack of building code enforcement. The laws are in place but not always enforced.

As a second generation Nigerian immigrant (parents were born in Nigeria and I was born in the US). I 100% agree w/ his perspective. I’ve spent consider amount of time in Nigeria w/ my side of the family that’s doing well and the other side that aren’t. Aboard should only be for people who have no opportunity back home as in they have tried everything and nothing worked for them. If you are doing well in Nigeria, try and give birth to your kids in the US so they can retrieve citizenship. There is no reason a successful person back home should sell their things and move aboard even for kids as you can send them aboard to receive an education and help them gain citizenship and from their they can file for you. The amount of systemic racism, odd jobs you will have to work (God forbid you don’t have a degree and you move aboard for non degree purposes that’s when aboard will show you pepper), cost of surviving is expense here especially now as inflation is high. It’s just not benefiting especially if you were better off in Nigeria. However, this shouldn’t stop you from coming just know that the road isn’t easy and some places are worse than others. I’ve never been to Canada but have been to the UK and by far would advice anyone from back home to avoid UK at all cost. Not even sure how Nigerians are even making it there lol (it’s a never ending cycle of poverty plus citizenship is very difficult to gain and the discrimination in my opinion is much worse than the US. UK society has a class system and it only really empowers British people. The UK is so bad that they even discriminate against Eastern Europeans that should let you know a lot.) Also why do you think most Brits Nigerians come back to Naija hoping to secure job compared to American Nigerians and let me tell you it’s not because the UK is close to Nigeria, there is a true lack of opportunity. There are more opportunity in the US and possibly Canada compared to the Europe.

So sad, you don't trash your country on a platform like this no matter challenges that country is going through. Some people built Canada to what is it today that your fellow Omo ti ko ri ola ri ( persons comming from poverty). At a point in history, Canada was a struggling country but I don't think Canadian talk trashed of their country. It's unfortunate these kids went to colleges in Nigeria at a subsidized rate and the best i will suggest is to not say anything rather than trashing you birth place.\n You will realize after staying in Canada for few years that it's not rosy and easy as you expect and you will be surprised to learnt that some of your colleagues/classmates who stays back and works in Nigeria are living far better than you. All that glitters are not gold in the west.\nI made this comment based on my experience living in the west for more than 2 decades.\nNever give up on your birth place, you may regret doing so later in the future.\nJust my advice.

I hate this so much. I know it’s not these peoples fault that their countries aren’t helping them but America isn’t even helping its own people. Imagine how it feels to be from the US struggling and then these people come and somehow our country has the means to help them when they won’t not can’t won’t help their own. What other country do you know of where you can just decide to cross their boarder demand help and say you know what I’m just going to live here illegally now. And if we don’t help them they have all kinds of ways to sue the state and demand help even though they’re not even citizens. That’s what’s crazy to me. They make you do a bunch of stuff before you can travel and some countries won’t even let you visit let alone live there with or without a criminal record but these people can just walk right in. Any countries borders are important they are there for protection. Ours are not being protected which means the country is not protected. I just don’t see this turning out well for anybody, not them not us. There is a scene from the titanic that I’d like to relate this situation to. The scene where Roses mom is in the boat with that other lady who has new money the chubby one. She wanted to let people on the boat that were drowning around her, and dude wouldn’t let her. It wasn’t because he was being mean it was because if people started holding onto the boat and trying to get on the boat they would panic, and eventually everybody would swarm the boat. The boat would not have been able to hold the weight of everyone holding onto it. Well the same here there’s people who are already drowning, and other people from other countries want to come here, but all they’re gonna do is sink the ship, and then there will be no help for anybody and everyone will be doomed. No I have nothing against people coming here but not this way. I welcome anybody that wants to be here to work but not this way. America has its our own problems and the citizens pay taxes that are never used to help them. Instead the government gives money away to other countries like it’s nothing. I don’t mind helping anyone anywhere but when the money we pay the government doesn’t go to help it’s own citizens first idk that’s not right to me. We should be helping our own people first. Anyway this isn’t the right way to come I to America. This isn’t fair to the rest of us. We pick up the bill not the government. Help your own citizens America we need help too!!!!!!!

So I’m going to echo a lot of the other comments here regarding gun violence. The number ONE cause of death to children is gun violence. I went into a ladies clothing store and everyone stopped and looked at me like “what are you doing here” I’m white and everyone else was black. And I was like “ what is going on” I thought, is this a thing? My friend had the same experience. He walked into a barber shop, he’s white and all the men were black. He didn’t get it either. In both cases we were treated very well and when they realized we were Canadian we all understood the situation. Because in Canada that just wouldn’t happen. I wouldn’t want to live in a country where even businesses are segregated. That’s just a sad situation.

Not entirely accurate. It's pro-wealthy immigration here in Canada absolutely. It's citizenship for sale. Not necessarily wealthy in terms of really wealthy (like Switzerland) but it's definitely citizenship for sale, so if you don't have money, don't bother. Newcomers with medical and engineering expertise can't get jobs here in Canada, in spite of our healthcare system being on the point of collapse and our supposed hi-tech push. Regulatory boards here have made it impossible. Estimates are around 175000 qualified, internationally trained doctors and nurses who gave up trying to practice here and moved into other careers. Ukrainian doctors, for eg, with extensive trauma experience and willing to staff our emergency departments have been told they have to requalify by going to Canadian medical school to retrain for at least 4 years. Same story in engineering. By IT, our government seems to mean low-paid call center IT work, moving the IT sweatshop racket from India onto Canadian soil. If you can afford to buy a business - I believe the total business investment was 500 000 pre-pandemic - that's another way in. Not sure if thats gone up now. So many of our franchise businesses are essentially being used as citizenship tickets. The big ticket item: If you can afford 4 years of postgraduate or undergrad university program, or 3 to 4 year college program - and if you don't have the cash, loan sharks in India will distribute debt across the whole family for decades so one student can go . There us a very good documentary by an Indian filmmaker on the Canadian college/University recruitment drive in India and its consequences. Several of our colleges have student enrollments at over 70% of the entire student body, direct entry from India. Additional problems like grade inflation, different education standards, and outright fraud on ESL testing also mean that Indian students are not well prepared for school here. Many do not have enough English to succeed in their studies. They either need to spend for additional tutoring, take a qualifying year or two ESL (on top of the 3 or 4 program), or fail courses. Universities and colleges keep the tuition though. Honestly our colleges and universities are staying afloat because of Indian students. They're being treated like cash cows - and Indian recruiters are scamming the system, taking fees on their end with unsuspecting students getting falsified documents, or being told they passed their ESL when they didn't. It's a national disgrace. I'm a prof here, I've seen all of this firsthand. Your data may be correct, but the narrative you've constructed for it is not the real picture.

Hi Tyler, born and raised Cdn here. I have American relatives and ancestors. I spent a lot of time going to the States to visit them when I was young and US felt like our big brother back then. Nice, clean, safe, fun and just big. Heck, when I was 15 I even took the Greyhound bus from Toronto to San Francisco. I've been back a few times but last was in 2015. Lkg to come back maybe this Christmas. I know media is biased but to give you some explanation, we don't have guns up here to the extent you guys do. Of course we have crime and sick things do happen up here but, we don't have to fear that every single person we come in to contact w is packin a gun. And the news intensifies our fear of that one aspect of your country's culture. And yes, the amount of mass shootings at schools terrifies us. I am sad to also see the political extremism in the US now. I miss the US of my childhood and certainly do agree, small town rural people are salt of the earth there. I even found New Yorkers nicer than Torontonians.

In the past 2 years I have had 5 crainiotomies, 1 kidney removed and a hernia. Looking at this in the USA, this would cost me over $3, 000, 000 for my care. I would be bankrupt. You say that the health insurance cost ONLY a couple of hundred dollars a month ($2400 a year) ... here, I pay NOTHING per month. Most insurance plans in the USA hve a few THOUSAND dollar deductible on top of the monthly payment. Yes, I do pay higher taxes than in the USA but the social programs are worth it ... INCLUDING HEALTH CARE. There is also a reason why the Canadian lapel pin is worn by Americans in when they go to Europe. There is also a reason why part of the French landscape is Canadian soil (Vimy Ridge ... France gave the area to Canada as a THANK YOU for what we did during WW1). The Netherlands sends Canada 1000's of tulips to Canada every year thanking Canada for making part of the maternity ward in Ottawa Hospital Dutch soil. Queen Jiliana gave birth to Margriet and the only way to stay in line for the thrrone was to be born on Dutch soil ... Ottawa complied. Canada also liberated the Netherlands in WW2.

Disappointing you rushed over a respondent's feeling about the abortion issue in the US as it is completely on point. Health care costs are one thing (actually huge) but when you're forced to carry a fetus to term against your will (would any man?) that alone is why no woman would put her hand up to head to your neck of the woods - for her own sake and for that of her daughter's and any other female for that matter (Canadians tend to care about other people not just themselves). If you want to know why someone WOULD leave Canada for the US, it would likely be for family; or warmer weather...but at this point you guys are on fire and family can come visit us here. We are blessed here for so many reasons (fresh water, beautiful country, health care, freedom to choose, freedom to be gay or straight or whatever you are) and while my mom was American and I have cousins and even a nephew in Florida, and I used to love visiting my grandparents in Vermont and New Jersey as a kid, the whole landscape of the US has changed to one of in your face racism, hatred against women, the LGBTQ and everyone who is not caucasian, not to mention the whole gun business. You guys have lost any appeal whatsoever no matter how hard you crow about how great your country is. The Canadian immigration system is fair and easy to understand. Unfortunately Canadian employers always ask for Canadian experience. In no other country was I ever asked this. After immigrating to Canada and failing for many years I finally moved to the US where I have been far more successful and happier. Just returned from a trip to Toronto where I have many good friends. The traffic is a nightmare and the housing is unaffordable. Canada is wasting all these highly skilled immigrants. They need to provide housing and effective labor force integration. They need to recognize foreign qualification and cut the insufferable red tape. It was an issue when I was part of an IEP (Internationally Educated Professionals) conference over 18 years ago and I see it has not changed. Given a free choice most immigrants would chose the United States. Why? Because despite all the craziness, Americans only care if you can do the job. And they are very welcoming. There is a positive energy that anything is possible. And I am now a very proud American. I will do anything for this country. Canada is a great country but it is wasting their new immigrants.

I absolutely agree. Australia is one of the best countries to live with a work-life balance. They have yet to talk about 10% super contribution which was made to their retirement fund. There are heaps of vegetarian, kosher, halal options. People are super friendly and very humble and polite. It is heartbreaking to hear this. In emergency it depends what is happened to you. Australia has the highest labour wage in OECD I think now at $24 + super. Reigonal areas like Canberra, TASMANIA etc they are not to bad.

the way you paint Canada at the end is very untrue - refugees are treated horribly here. when we took in the people from Syria they were put in homeless shelters and weren't given food or proper clothing (it was winter and -30c out). as of typing this there are camps/tents set up in the streets of downtown toronto for refugees we just brought in that have no where to go. we brought them here in a hopes of a better life and made them apart of the ever growing homeless population. we also just deported over 700 Indian students who came to Canada under fraudulent circumstances. maybe if you are rich life is different (thats really all you cover) but if you are an International student or a refugee this is not the place to be - we take in so many International students because they have to pay 3x to 4x more than someone born here. do more research into your videos please this and the other comment i left are all breaking or top stories in canada not hard to learn and could of added so much to this topic instead of painting canada in a near utopian image

canada is a shit hole (born and raised here) yesterday there was a job fair at a grocery store and the line of people applying was over a km - for the lowest level position possible. rent in a town no one in the world has ever heard of is more than N.Y.C or Tokyo. we have thousands of homeless immigrants sleeping outside in camps in toronto as they have no where to go and everywhere you go in this country someone is dying from the opioid epidemic, crime has gone up 50% in many cities. no one will ever buy a house and the people born here cant/wont have kids because its to expensive. the Canadian population is dying out bc out government is trash and instead of helping us they bring in more immigrants who will take the shit housing with 14 adults in 1 room and wont call the labour board when they are exploited. that is why Canada accepts so many immigrants bc they are exploitable - very easy to see when you live here its disgusting.

I’m a bit late to this discussion but I agree with the 99.9% of other responses. Although, I have enjoyed trips to beautiful areas of the US, & live close to the border where a day trip was a common occurrence. I now hesitate to even travel there as I do worry about gun violence, racism & honestly cannot understand the cult of followers who would even consider voting for an incompetent, narcissistic criminal to lead their country…. it’s mind blowing! You are desensitized regarding violence/school shootings… choose where you live? What’s the guarantee that this couldn’t happen anywhere in the US, even rural areas? On the topic of living in Canada, it’s beautiful with lots of country to see/enjoy from west coast to the east coast & we have healthcare, a government (although not perfect) elected by & working for the people. My company just initiated my i140 application which will take around 3 yrs to complete then the wait for GC will start for 15yrs (for Indians only). During this time we are at the employers mercy. We do get high salaries. But we are in a perpetually limbo. Its hard to find a spouse, start a family or invest in property as your future here is uncertain. \n\nThe H1B lottery system was introduced to keep the selection fair, as there are limited number of applications accepted each year. Hence it is a gamble for immigrants wanting to come here to study and work. The chance of getting H1B is almost 50/50. H1B visa is a temporary work visa, it was designed to be applicable for 3-4yrs until one gets the GC. But because of GC country backlog folks are on it for 15-20yrs.\n\nThe Greencard country limits were introduced in 2009 as the US government felt they needed diversity in the country. They were scared that US will be filled with Indians and Chinese immigrants. Hence the country caps on each country on GC. So if one is born in Nepal, Sri Lanka or Pakistan they get their GC within 1-3 yrs. Where as Indians need to wait 15-20yrs. But here is the wired part, they only consider the country of birth NOT citizenship. Ex: My friend was born in Oman and was raised in India, he is Indian and has Indian citizenship. He got his GC in 1 yr. \n\nThese H1B policies are not a priority to the US government as H1B folks do not have voting rights. They do not have any incentives to change the legacy policies. Maybe it's just because of the news, but really, the school shootings are TOP of mind for me. Like, how is that even possible, to have that many crazy people who want to murder children, and not only that, but those crazy people have access to guns? \nI don't say anything to my American cousins, as I realize that they have ties, they've married Americans, they've built a life, and there's no sense me freaking out about things that they won't change, and insulting their choices.\nBut... I was SHOCKED that even after they started having children, they still didn't move back to Canada. They can do it, they have dual citizenship! \n???\nIt's like sending your kids to school on a boat in a river full of crocodiles. It's not guaranteed that nothing bad will happen to them, and it's hard to let them go, but you trust and pray and hope for the best.\nAnd then you see your cousin's kids sailing down that same river sitting on a log with their feet dangling into the water! It's horrifying, even if they assure you that usually the crocs don't come to this side of the river, and mostly they're not hungry in the morning anyway. It seems like reckless disregard. And for what? So the parents can make more money? It's not worth it in my opinion.

You've explained it very well. For people like us who have gone through both systems, details about it are like second nature to us, like breathing. But I really want to correct that express entry in Canada is very varied and you don't necessarily need to have a job offer. A combination of your degrees, or the years of work experience you already have could likely already be enough to be approved. It's a very transparent point-based system that you can calculate on your own. Another thing to mention you forgot to mention is Green Card is still not citizenship. You need to have a green card for 5 more years before you can apply for US citizenship as opposed to only a few years in Canada. I moved from a very high paying job in the US (after studying in a US university) for exactly this reason to Canada. I took a large pay cut (still 6 figures), but I was express entry approved in 1.5 years. A year has passed since, and I'm eligible for citizenship in less than 6 months. \n\nIt is a game-changing system for Canada and it will have massive benefits down the line as skilled talent from the US drains to Canada. It will not be apparent yet, but it will become apparent in the near future. I plan to start many businesses and employ people. Canada took me in when the US did not, and so I will definitely start businesses in Canada instead and create employment here. A lot of skilled talent is reasoning along the same lines and a massive shift in the headwinds is coming.\n\nPS - The one thing Canada is not doing well, is housing. The system is set up correctly, but not enough housing is being built, cities expanded, or any coordination done to make sure people are settling in a more distributed manner. This needs to be fixed ASAP. The prices are becoming outrageous rivalling the US. Canada has always been so sparse, it's not prepared for this. It needs housing construction on war footing. I don't see the current government taking it seriously.

You may have Disney Land (and World) but I live in the original Disney Land which is Huron County, Ontario, Canada as Walt and Roy's dad and grandfather were originally from Bluevale, now Morris-Turnberry Township here in Huron County. The Disney family even has some connected history with our salt mine, the largest operating salt mine on the planet with hoist shafts as deep as the CN tower is tall (roughly 553 m or half a kilometre or less than 1/3 of a Mile) and also had a sawmill, probably close to my first home as a kid outside of Holmesville, Ontario, but I digress.\n\nAs I have stated, I'm Canadian and while I admire some things about your country, I wouldn't live there due to the lack of regulations on firearms (I don't mind people owning guns but they should be qualified and certified with a licence of owning, storing and using them and prohibitions on assault rifles and even semi-automatic weapons) and the lack of universal healthcare. Canada could be doing better as we have those in government trying to privatize our system further and breaking the laws doing it but the Feds aren't really doing anything either. At least we do have healthcare but there are still private systems in place, particularly for optical, dental, pharma and other systems. I also don't care for the American's lack of serious training for police, private prisons and the fact that slavery is alive and well there as well as your politicians' and citizens' insistence on keeping and maintaining capital punishment.

Where did you get your numbers of PR for 2022 from? Just went to the .gov stats and it's 280k in just the Q4 of 2022. For the whole 2022, it's 4 times more. This means that per capita the difference between Canada and the US is 2x-3x.\n\nAs for H1B, 80-90% are taken by Indians, and this year, 2023, an average number of petitions per each was 3.\nIt's a system being gamed by Indian companies who supply lower quality but cheaper workforce to SV.\n\nHow can you even make a video without doing basic fact checking?

Canadian here. I will just say, after our pop increased by 1mil last year due to immigration (including foreign students that still drive up housing as they need to be housed), I can tell that the approval of our current immigration rates are a bit too generous. Maybe the survey was taken only in downtown areas of Toronto or Vancouver, so its really only asking other immigrants if immigration is chill, but that isnt the consensus of the nation. We dont make more than Americans, but we are taxed more (aka why we want more immigrants to get more tax $), and everything costs more here: from housing to food to energy. Its driven up by the current unsustainable immigration quotas. I myself an am immigrant, but when my family and I immigrated 23 years ago, we only took in 20 000 people a year. I wouldnt have an issue on this at all if we were building enough. Enough housing and transit for everyone. enough good paying jobs for all these newcomers. But these people (with excellent degrees) are lied to at the border with a false promise of prosperity, and just end up being uber drivers to make ends meet. Its a truly broken system. If you arent making 150k/year, you are very much considered lower--middle class.

I have a different perspective… as I’ve lived in Canada since I was 2 years old (same with my wife). I’m in my early 40s and my wife is in her late 30s… the other thing is… we are of Sri Lankan decent… Tamils… BTW, I didn’t understand a thing from this interview… I’m going by what is said in the comment section.\nBut, hear me out… before you say… “Oh no… this guy has nothing in common…”\nJust so you know… I was born in Germany in 1980… my wife was born in Sri Lanka in 1985.\nWhat I noticed is all my uncles, grandparents would rave about the fact that if the war in Sri Lanka was over they would go back and live there… well… truth be told it’s been over for a while… and they go visit… but they built a new life here in Canada… and they’ve come accustomed to the luxury lifestyle here. Yep. I work on H-1B visas. This year’s selection was pretty bad. Which is why we’re having a second lottery drawing sometime this year. Some other options are continuing to remain in school or looking into other visa types. Best to speak to an immigration attorney to see if you have other options.\n\nYou don’t have to leave the US to extend your H-1B status though… if you’ve been outside the us for any length of time you can also “recapture” those days to extend the length of your H-1B. Example: if you’ve been outside the US or in a different visa status, like H-4, for 30 days, you can push out your H-1B expiry date by an extra 30 days the next time you are submitting an extension.

Great video! US immigration system is soul crushing and very expensive. As a Korean Canadian (Scientist with a PhD) who immigrated to US in 2012, I was lucky to get my green card in 2020. Since then I sponsored my wife and my daughter but their immigration cases have been in limbo due to the pandemic and we are still waiting for their green cards. You made a great point about why many people wants to immigrate to US from Canada because of pay. It is true that same job in the US pays so much better but you forget to mention a few points that the higher pay in the US is not that much advantageous if you calculate the cost of other life expenses. Sure house is very expansive in Canada but it is expensive in the US too. I live in MA and the average price is so much expensive. Additionionally, important things in life are very expensive in the US compared to Canada such as Child care, children's education, health cares etc... Example: My friends from Quebec only pay 7$/day for daycare (~140$/month). My friends in Massassuchetts pays on average (2800$/month). My friends kids will pay around 2000$/year for university tuition if they go to an university in Quebec. My kid will have to pay around 10000$/year if she decides to go to in state university if not it could be more than 40000$/year. I know that health care system in Canada is not perfect but it is much cheaper. In US, it is so expansive. My daughter birth only costs us in Canada 100$. My friend kid birth in MA with a great health insurance cost more than 5000$. Without health insurance, it could go even higher. Now if you lose your job, you lose your health insurance so good luck if you become sick. Additionally, depending where you go in the US, they have a gun problem. Luckily for me, I live in MA where gun control is very strong. Anyway, this is just to tell you that higher pay isn't always better.

Some things to factor in - 1). American immigrants become citizens. This isn't true for almost any of these other countries. 2). American immigrants are disproportionately low skill. This is true in plenty of these countries. 3). American immigrants disproportionately come from the same cultural sphere, which makes their size more intimidating. 4). A second generation immigrant is not considered an immigrant. These countries just began allowing mass immigration. Americans have been allowing mass immigration all of our history. Including second generation immigrants, you have an immigrant population closer to 35% of the US population, true or false? And more than half of them have the right to vote, to fundamentally alter our nation. \nThere's also no way Americans believe that more than half of the country are immigrants. Almost all immigrants in the US live in a few specific regions. Most Americans see very few immigrants throughout the year. Perhaps, it was offset by the number of Americans surveyed who do live in those specific regions. Surveys tend to prioritize diversity and weigh the opinions of particular groups differently. If they tended to call urban area codes more often, and weighed the votes in proportion to size of the population that each group makes up, then the people saying 50% in say New York or Washington state, which represent many different groups will offset the people saying 5% in Kansas, which are all getting grouped into the older, Whiter cohorts. Most Americans under 18 are non-White. \nOnly 15% of Americans under 18 should be non-White, if America were an ethnically stable nation. Thus, 38% of Americans are recent (post 1970s) immigrants.

Walking into any major university career fair, you will see the predatorial scene of hordes of foreign master students competing against American bachelors for the same new grad jobs; with many of the foreign students already having real career experience in their own country competing against inexperienced American young adults. \n\nThis video also does not mention the H1B lottery is not a single-try event. I lived in Canada from 1983 to 2016 after I left the US Air Force in '83. I was born in the SF Bay area, and grew up there in the Hippie peace love/Viet Nam era in the 60's and 70's. I now live in Seattle. As we have travelled to San Fran, New Orleans, Nashville, Miami, Vancouver (Canada) and New York in the last 6 months, I kinda have a pretty good idea how it was on both sides of the border way back then, as well as right now. We have 2 rental homes, and I STILL have to work until I'm 70 to retire without worrying about losing it all because of the the high cost of health care. Your observation of race/political/religion relations are naive at best, you need to travel the country first hand to see it. Canada has it's far share of right wing crazies as well. They're mostly not armed, and most fights are 5 minute shouting matches. I know this because I work on construction sites. Canada doesn't have commercials for pharma or ambulance chasers. Because big pharma is kept in check, and with a population slightly smaller than California, frivolous lawsuits would clog the courts. If the PM killed some one on the corner of Yonge and Bloor in Toronto, he'd go to jail. You can get an abortion in Canada. There's a fraction of the Fentanyl crisis happening in Canada, and they have waaayy less homeless in the street. Canada has 2 weeks paid vacation AND paid holidays. The tax rate is higher in Canada, but many of the benefits make up the difference. It's cheaper to buy a house in Seattle than Vancouver. You can get a 30 year mortgage in Washington as well, instead of 5 or 10 years. Good and services tend to be cheaper and more plentiful Stateside. Mail service runs on weekends, it hasn't done that in Canada since the 80's. As it stands, I'm in Seattle right now because it isn't the typical US city by far. But I'm thinking when it comes to retiring, I'm putting Canada on the list. Being a dual citizen also makes me eligible for the other Commonwealth (universal health care) countries like Australia.

Gun violence happens in small towns too- the recent school shootings are in small towns - does not make you immune- why legally allow someone to carry an assault weapon - it’s a weapon of mass destruction and has no place in this world or in the hands of any single person !! So you came to Canada to reach your dreams… and now you want to go home. So Canada was able to support you in attaining your dreams. So does that mean the country you left didn’t give you the same opportunities? And people leave because the passport is so solid… so basically you are using the country to elevate yourself and to prosper yet you can not find the grace to understand and accept that all countries have issues and yet some are still better than most… Canada would be one of those countries. Your ingratitude is not healthy and perhaps you might stick around long enough to make the changes that you feel would make Canada a better country for all. If you are indeed a Canadian then this is your country too… so take some responsibility and help to make it better. I’m with my fellow Canadians, I’ll visit the US (although even then, it’s beginning to look less and less ideal) but over my dead body would I live there. \nThe fact you have become desensitized and don’t discuss school shootings is baffling. 4 or 5 years ago, there was a shooting where I live in Canada. The whole city was on lock down. I believe one elderly woman died, and 3 were injured. The person was caught, arrested, and is rotting away in jail. It hasn’t happened since. People still remember it. My little sister and I were scared, so we hid in my bedrooms closet. (It was on the second floor, and there was no way anybody could break in and get up there easily.)\n\nHealthcare is a huge issue. My family has a long line of health issues, and with that in mind, the risk is just to obscene.\n\nI am a woman. The fact that laws are being stripped away from us by old white men who have no idea what it is like to be a woman in the states is horrifying. \n\nGun culture. It’s near-on impossible or at least it’s incredibly difficult to get guns here. Owning guns isn’t respected. When people die from being shot, it’s remembered and spoken about, even years later. At least to me, it seems you care more for your Guns and the rights to own and use them, then Women who want to have bodily autonomy.\n\nYour political issues. I don’t even know what to say at this point beyond. The entire senate is rich old straight white men who like to make laws about groups they aren’t part of, and strip laws away from others. You basically have two polar opposite sides of the political spectrum and that alone, divides people so deep they can’t even be in the same room for more then 10 seconds.\n\n\nI’m Part of the LGBTQIA2S+ community. Enough said. \n\nI’m well aware that not everyone in the US is like this. But in my eyes, that’s more then enough to deter me. I never want to move down in United States first of all they don't have free healthcare they don't have free medication while some medication and their food does not taste like ours I've tried their Pizza Hut that I found was totally disgusting they're McDonald's was totally different also lots of flies in this in the restaurant around where they make the hamburgers and that they're washing very filthy women's washroom overpopulated and you never know when you're walking on the street when you're going to get killed by a gun at least where I live it's a slower pace it's starting to become crazy with the homeless and people that like to make trouble but they're still not that much guns because we don't allow it it's more safe we can still walk on the streets without anything happening happening even at night where I live it's a slower pace the air quality is also better it's not muggy as much as the states a lot of places people here are more friendly but just like it here I was born here

So all about competitiveness. In 2017, 60 points were required for 189 subclass. People got PRs on 50 points as well as on 489 visas but on other profiles. Moreover, IELTS academic was never mandatory for PR. The points system is in the picture for 15 years. Two draws in a month were there till June 2018. 491 was started in 2019 October. In 491 you can work on any profile in a regional area and NO INCOME CONSTRAINTS are THERE FOR 491(They are claiming 70000 AUD). There was a time I would have. My father and Grandfather grew up in New York city as children and spoke highly of the States. Since 2016 I would seriously not consider living there. The gun violence that occurs their has gotten to the point that it has to be especially eggregious before it makes the news. The cavalier attitude towards guns and gun saftey is disturbing even from your politicians. it would be a recipe for loosing your privalege to own a firearm in Canada if you did what many of us see americans do with their guns. Open carry. Not allowed. Concealed carry. Not allowed. There are courses you need to take and pass on firearm saftey and gun use here, before you are given the privaledge of owning a firearm. Those firearms need to be stored properly or carried in cases at all times when not in use \n\nThat being said I have done those courses and I own guns. Rifles to be precise and a shot gun I use for hunting food. Pistols are not easy to get here and you can only use them on a range. The only people legally carrying pistols in public are the police.\n\nHealthcare is fine if you are young and healthy, with a job. If i showed up at 53 with a handfull of pre-existing conditions, I would be in bad shape.\n\nYour record on lgbtq+ and a woman's right to bodily autonomy is back slipping to the 1950's.
