American student at a Canadian university: Thank you Canada, for speaking out. Many of us know this is wrong, and we do not blame you for the chaotic fall of the U.S. empire. I stand with Canada (and Mexico for that matter).

Being an American, I am EMBARRASED by what Trump has done. This is NOT how you treat a friend like Canada, and a partner in this world. Trump is an a$$hole and he must be stopped! \nI will consider you a friend and ally forever and what is being done makes absolutely NO sense! Orange Felon is not making sense! He's delusional and stupid. Go Canada!! Don't take this crap from Orange Felon! We'll take care of that POS POTUS and make him pay dearly for what he has done!

Fentanyl coming from Canada was less than 1%. This was just an excuse for Trump. Trump wants to start WW 111 and start with Canada. Trump is old, he lived his life, he's not thinking about the young generations that ha e just started living. \n\nI believe that Trump is in with Putttin to give him classified information, knowing that he will not get away with his criminal charges so he can deflect to Russia where these is no Expedition treaty. After a couple of years Trump and co will say, that Canada started a trade war against US. Just like they say, that Ukraine and Zelenskyy started the war with Russia. And now some uf US commentators are saying the same. It’s crazy. And there will be no way to get him to remember the facts. He and all who work for him are liars and half truth tellers. I’m not sure how to deal with this. But it is VERY important for all media outlets to keep reminding the facts. Just tell what happens, so there is a record. If you understand what you have done and realize the implications, then peacefully protest (if that is still allowed with your evolving fascist/populist/authoritarian government). Contact your local, state/territorial and federal government officials. You can let your governors, senators and representatives know that you do not agree with the government’s actions and the subsequent hardship it will impose not only on the world but on you, your family and neighbours. Make change happen in a peaceful, non violent manner, while you still can. We didn’t ask for nor want this absurdly unnecessary confrontation but when attacked, we will fight our old friends and historic allies. Elbows up Canada!

Wow! Sweden here. I stand by Canada. This is how a true leader speaks. What Trump is doing is irrational and he still don’t seem to understand how tariffs works. He’s hurting his own people with yet another effort to break down all alliances around the world. He threatens Europe, Palestine, Greenland, Mexico and many more. He cuts funding for Ukraine and aline with Russia. He managed in a month to crash so many lives in his own country and do not keep promises from his campaigns. How can one man destroy so much….

This breakup with Canada will be used to justify getting much needed minerals and such from... yes you guessed right, Russia and Ukraine, as soon as we abandon them to the butcher. Their intentions and motives are incredibly transparent and yet, the streets are not filled with protests, yet. Disband both political parties and start with new push forward with the great experiment of a melting pot society based on democracy where education is the primary moving force.

The last scorching inflation we had in the 80s, CDs for 3 years and only 10,000 dollars drew 13.5%, there was also high, high, high unemployment, home loans were 18.5% interest with good credit. This was WITHOUT gutting our federal agencies, cutting back on SNAP and Medicaid and firing federal employees and gutting the agencies' ability to do oversight with the Offices of Inspector General. I can't even tell you why Dept. of Defenses is calling off our cyber defenses against Russia who hacks everything in America nuclear power plants, hydro, etc. Got my gas today - our refineries are fitted for Canadian oil though it's not a 25% tariff but Canada could slap an export tax on it to be paid by us.

Canada has to start accepting refugees from the US? \n\nI know we have to focus on all the immediate stuff, but even though we knew they had an endgame, we didn’t think they would speed run at this quickly. \n\nElon must have that extra special Adderall.\n\nI don’t want to live on this planet anymore! As an American, there is nothing I want to see more than countries like Canada who hold their ground and do not allow Donald trump and his government bully them. Hopefully this will end soon and the damage can be minimized

This has nothing to do with Canada or the Canadian people. This is a pure transactional move because that is how Trump sees things. He needs the money to finance his agenda and he has been told that the money does not exist in terms of what the US Congress can provide. They won't cut military spending and they wouldn't dare touch SS or Medicare. So Canada is allowed to secure their border and be proud of that but when trump does it these same people come out and call on him not to be racist and care for his neighbour? Everything this man says is a lie

As I look at all the wonderful comments from Americans supporting Canada the tears are streaming down my face. Thank you! What I worry about is what is Trump up to?. \nWhy the decoupling from allies, not just Canada. Worse, why support Russia at the UN? Why take down your cyber defences? Is this a dictator digging himself in? Is he using Kim Jung Un's playbook? Americans, please be very careful with this man. The free world loves you but we need you to be free.

All I can say is I am sorry, embarrassed, and ashamed of my broken country's politicians in Washington, D.C. at present. I have always been a proud American citizen. My paternal side of my family has been traced back to the Mayflower and I have ancestors and family that have served in the Revolutionary War, the American Civil War, WWl, WWll, Vietnam, the Gulf, and Afghanistan. This country has made many mistakes and has had much shame throughout its existence for various things but this is the first time and U.S. president has turned his back on our friends and allies in favor of an evil authoritarian leader named Vladimir Putin who strokes his massive ego and gives him elusions of power and respect from Putin when in reality Putin is playing Trump like a fiddle. The New York Times was not right. Donald Trump is not a bright guy. I stand strongly with my friends in Canada ??.

I am Canadian, and I want to speak to the USA, as a concerned citizen who valued the relationship that we once had between our two countries: please realize that we do NOT want to declare this as any form of “attack”, that these are solely defensive measures against your current administration’s lack of respect towards us as a people and as a country. \n\nPlease rest assured that we KNOW that not all of you voted for Trump, that there are those of you who realize what your current president is truly doing and do not support it. This is NOT about fentanyl. This NOT about money and how much each country was giving whom. We had a respectable trade deal that we were following, previously signed by Trump. We have always had a positive relationship together, business-wise and friendship-wise. I voted for Trump and a lot of his policies and actions I agree with, THIS one I do not, Canada did not let in NEARLY as many illegal immigrants as Mexico so it makes no sense why he is punishing them, and he isn't, he just doesn't like Trudeau probably because he was friends or friendly with Biden, same with Zelensky AND Canada wanted to ban products from red states for electing him which is frankly just a stupid policy. \nThis is not hard to figure out, Trump doesn't like Trudeau and Ford, plain and simple......it really is THAT shallow, he is trolling Trudeau by calling them the 51st state and anyone know knows Trump and how he thinks knows that.
