I am watching this video from Canada and I have 4 words for you - “DO NOT COME HERE!!!” Everything that was mentioned in the video is absolutely true. Canada is facing many problems, unaffordable housing, broken healthcare systems, homeless people, drugs. I am always scared to walk in downtown at night when I’m returning from work. And the worst part is, you cannot even defend yourself here if a homeless person is attacking you. If you do that you will be prosecuted saying that why did you touch that homeless guy and it is a violation of human rights, which is stupid. So does that mean that we should just let a random homeless person kill us?? How does that make sense?? My friend who was having an asthma attack had to sit in the emergency room for 8 hours. If something would have happened, who would be responsible? And the list just goes on. And what does the Canadian prime minister do about that….? Let a guy be a girl and a girls become a guy? What does that even mean??? I have nothing against the LGBTQ people. That’s your life do whatever you want, I don’t care. But there are so many other issues going on in the country and the government is focusing on allowing people to change their genders !! \nAnd the worst part is that a portion of the tax we pay from our hard earned money goes to the homeless people. And what do they do? Buy drugs and start attacking random people. Well. There are thousands of permanent residents from Canada who got stranded around the world in the pandemic. The travel restrictions Canada put in place for permanent residents are far out of line. I was at the airport the last week before airports got closed. I had even my return ticket printed out, checked online in. At the airport, I was told, with some other PR’s that as a PR we were not allowed to board the plane! Seriously? What country does this? For myself, I couldn’t return to Canada for 1.5 years! Panic in the first couple of weeks. Calling the Canadian embassy every week. Even asking if Canada had a way to extend the Permanent residency visa at the embassy available. No. If you are longer than 2 years away from Canada, you CANNOT RENEW YOUR PERMANENT RESIDENCY CARD! Well. Lucky me, I didn’t had to work. After 14 years of working and living in Canada, I just had enough from a country that is telling none Canadians that we are people of 2nd class. And no. I am not from India. I’m from Germany and we cannot have a 2nd passport like other countries. I just got rid of everything in Canada. I stayed in Panama. Renewed last year my German passport. Got a “lifetime” residency visa in Panama. Don’t have to be worried about heating costs anymore. It is warm year around. Maybe it was a good thing that Canada gave me the “2nd class human” feeling. That’s when you figure out in times of emergency what countries do for immigrants. Canada was one of a handful countries in the pandemic who blocked permanent residence card owners from returning!

Muslims don’t see the part they play In alienating people. Saying all these programmed phrases like alhamdulilah and the whole litany makes you sound like automatons who don’t think for yourselves. If it’s so important to you, you can be Muslim in your heart. You don’t need to be “visible Muslims“. People who love God don’t have to constantly say “praise God”. We are Muslims.“ If you live in a society where that is the social norm OK go for it, but that’s not the case in Canada. I’m sure you know how much Muslims have been involved in terrorism. That’s not Islamophobia. That is fact. So, that is a big part of people’s reaction to “visible Muslims“. \nThe Muslim community needs to do some serious ijtihad. I’m talking about real introspection where you honestly look at yourselves and your community. Islam is In desperate need of reform. You should be at the forefront of that, but instead you are just playing out the old program which has failed in every Muslim country. First and foremost, you are human beings. The originators of Islam had their own lives, and they created what they did. You don’t have to mimic them. Live your own lives.

The Christian/Atheist West will never fully accept practicing Muslims. They will tolerate it because we need young bodies and it allows them to feel three powerful human emotions: superiority, pity and, for many, disgust. Another reason to leave for a Muslim country is you will be lucky if one of your grandchildren are practicing Muslims. The power of culture is far greater than parental influence over a couple of generations. I know very little about Islam but if this important to you , the West is not the place for you. \n\nAs a non practicing Christian, I hear these sentiments from Christians all the time who assume I am one of them. Many barely tolerate Jews even though they have been here for generations and are very economically productive. \n\nIf your husband has professional skills, the Gulf States are a good choice. Also Pakistan as they have more security due to possessing nuclear weapons which I guarantee no other Muslim country will possess in our lifetime. If you want to live in an Islamic state you move to a Muslim country. Canada is a secular democracy that guarantees your religious freedom. No Muslim country does that unless you are a Muslim. Wouldn’t it be much better if you considered yourselves human beings before all else? It is your humanity that gives the true power of redemption and being decent, moral individuals. No religion on earth does that. Not yours or any other. Belief is not as important as knowledge and humanity. However, you must do what you think is right for you. I think it would be good for you to move to the Middle East and experience what life is like in a theocracy.

I left canada after 4 months realising that India is way ahead and will soon surpass canada in all terms. Also, the growth opportunity in terms of your financial is massive in india. Here if you invest well, there is a chance of 5-10x your saving in next 2-3 decades, but there you will remain hand to mouth for your entire life. May be that's the cost of living in clean air, but to me its not worth it.

Hello Saleh family, I have been following you for over two years now; I am not american or canadian but a physician and mother of two from a third world country in the Caribbean. I started following you because I was curious about the muslim faith and your way of life. I started following different muslim people (and jewish, vegan, homeless and more... basically anybody different than me) and after some time I saw that we were all humans in search of the same things in life. I completely agree with your decision of moving but was very disappointed in your comments towards the drag community. A person in drag reading a children's book is not indoctrination. A person in drag reading to kids is only teaching them acceptance and tolerance (exactly what you want the world to give to your girls who most likely wear a Hijab). A person in drag is an artist who finds joy and self worth in certain clothes, hairstyles and makeup... it is a person a human person with the same value as everyone else. It has nothing to do with sexuallity or sexual orientation... if we truly want freedom for Palestine, if we truly want to change the narrative and to prevent 75+ years of brutal occupation and racism ever happening again; we have to change the way we see our differences... is not enough to ignore and respect people who are different: we have to accept them and recognize their humanity and their worth; to value and foster acceptance and integration in the younger generations... that is the only way forward, that is the only way we will all secure a better future for our kids. Partnership with God, goal clarity, the get-up-and-go, and relentlessness truly work. Some medical equipments may be paid for by either or both the individual/insurance and the government depending on eligibility. \n \nBy and large, there’s cleanliness of common spaces. There’s also safety and relative peace. At least wherever I have lived, I can’t tell you how many times I forgot to lock my door with impunity. \n \nThere’s a lot more stressful work here in my opinion, but like you said Lynn, systems work a lot more efficiently and effectively. \n \nThe elephant in the room is the extra hard work that those living abroad must put in to fulfil expectations back home. I am an immigrant from South Africa here in Edmonton since June of 2023. What the brother is saying is true. Canadians make no room for the human element in the workplace/environment. Everything is based on productivity at the expense of your humanity. They also treat workers as very expendable and disposable. The fact that they import so many foreign workers to do certain jobs is perhaps a reason why born Canadians no longer want to put up with the exploitation (I don't know if this is the true reason though).\n\nCanada is very convenient, and public services and infrastructure are amazing compared with South Africa. But the rest of the culture is very sterile. Tim Hortons, Starbucks, and Ice Hockey are considered cultural identities. Maybe the older generations had a distinctive culture, but most Canadians of today's are only interested in consumerism and the car lifestyle. If you are looking for people with warmth and depth, you will most likely find it with fellow immigrants (and maybe the poor and marginalized communities of Canada).\n\nCanada is a very safe country, and South Africa may not be worth it for me to return to. But the strongest element I thought for coming to Canada was that people here appreciated life and each other. This is not true. Canada is 'stable and happy' because the people are intoxicated by the comfort that material wealth provides the individual (despite all their complaints and problems, most Canadians still lead very comfortable and easy lives). Take away their comfort and materialism, and they won't know who they are. They won't know how to stand together either since they have been so strongly conditioned to live for themselves as individuals.\n\nCanadians are known for their politeness and friendliness, and this is true. But there is a big difference between politeness and kindness (and being genuine). Canadians are not kind.\n\nMy opinion is obviously limited and biased. I am sure there are wonderful and pleasant exceptions. But I will still limit these as exceptions. \n\nThink hard before choosing Canada (and perhaps also the USA). Unless you have a strong community to support you here, it will be a lonely and alienating experience.

not using email is not using outdated tech, we do have emails but most people including myself dont like using emails. I prefer talking to a human directly. I was once asked by a American colleague why did I not immigrated to the USA, the answer is: it was not even in the list of possible countries. To add salt to the injury it is a country that did not completely make slave work illegal, it is still legal if you are not a free citizen and your prison system exploit that.\n\nSo it is a country that you can become slave because you got sick.\n\nThen there are the guns… the fact you think you are exempt of school shootings says it all, if you live in a small city it would not affect you? I don't believe hearing God and Jesus telling all these people run from your countries and not have faith that I'm actually going to fix things for you and go run to somebody else actually go run to the United States where all those stuff is traveling through. I’ve watched the video and I’ve read many comments. My message it’s to immigrants, Canadians & everyone. Just be some patient to read for you to think reasonable after this. I’m sure you’ll start to be reasonable regarding Canada. I had a good life good job & a nice home in Ukraine. Due to the barbarian russian invasion my family & I fled the horrific situation in Kharkiv city. I was driving a mini bus of 4 families! Most are children. We’ve arrived to Europe. Crossing many countries (Poland, Czechia & Austria) we’ve arrived to the country leading the EU. In Poland & Czechia, we’re treat very good by the people. In Austria we got hardly a payed hotel where children could get a rest!!! We still didn’t understand why they don’t want to give us rooms despite we’re paying for our staying!!! In Germany, I believe that the government did its best. But the number of comers is huge! Of course many they got disappointed as happened with me! But I still understand and believe that really the government & people did theirs best. So fast I got a job! The social connection helped to introduce me to the company! But i was not hired, I still to express myself & my qualifications. The manager was understanding, so he accepted to communicate in English and to offer me the job in case if I am successful doing the job during the first week at the site. I had to change the machines menu into English. So the manager was very satisfied with my job and I got that job. The rent! You’ll get it only if you receive the blessing of each member of the county and a very strong social connections! The doctors! To make just a blood work for my son it took 45 days of waiting! To get the doctor appointment, you need that a German guy call and get you the appointment! Because when my wife called, the secretary said: we don’t speak English! But when my wife went for her visit she figured out they’re speaking English better than her!!! My son has an issue of hyperactivity, so they refused to accept him at school more than 3 hours a day! And he was excluded from the birthday parties of his colleagues aswell other events! Other Ukrainian children, they were just attending classes! Just a show! No body cares how help their integration! About, the taxes! The half of my income was going to the government! The money back?! Only 200 euros/ month for my kid. And nothing else. Nothing! To get a neurologist appointment for my son it was necessary to wait 3 months! Prices?! Everything expensive! Technology?! Not better than Canada at all. Bureaucracy, Canada is much less. Banking system, Canada much better. Where in Germany?! The best province in Germany “Munich”. Where people stoped long ago dreaming to purchase a home. Guys, Canada doesn’t through broken people as we were in camps! Where nothing is human there! Canada doesn’t enter you in cercle of hell bureaucracy just to get your kid into school! And if he needs a support he get it right away without any background that he’s not our!!! I got a good job in Canada; so fast. Without any social connections because simply I do not have any. I rent an apartment for my family, without to proof to the landlord that I’m the best guy in the world with a witnessed county about that!!! I want you to be sure, that I am not the lonely case. Just ask Ukrainians stied in Europe for a while before they move recently. Just ask them. I am not saying it’s a paradise or cons don’t exist. Just paradise doesn’t exist! And cons are everywhere. Just I want you to be fair about Canada. Please, be reasonable! The cons in Canada are not catastrophic, and it’s not difficult to fix them. It may take some time, but not difficult. Tips when moving countries:\nNature wins - if you are from Africa, why would you move to Canada???\nCanada is COLD - in Africa you never dealt with snow, ice, blizzards - meanwhile in Canada, 6 months WINTER hhahaha your body is not accustomed to such conditions, human races are different because of thousands of years living in certain climates - NOT AS IN THE BIBLE WHERE THEY SAY WE CAN DO WHATEVER WE WANT ON THE PLANET - WRONG! so this recent phenomena of moving countries is having also psycologicall downsides, such as racism, different cultures, not being able to fit in/not accepted by the natives etc as our brains are not designed for changing tribes, it is still as thousands of years ago, our brains operate in such way, that those childhood friends you had in your home country - YOU WILL NEVER HAVE THEM AGAIN ELSEWHERE. \nSo at first you may enjoy a new place, it as something new, but long term - NOT GOOD.\n\nTherefore when you move countries, you always move EAST or WEST, as you stay on similar altitude, the climate will be same/similar and likely the people will be also be similar/similar culture.\n\nYou never move NORTH or SOUTH, as everything will be DIFFERENT - climate, people, way of life - it will crush you! All Canada not only Vancouver it’s very isolated.\nPeople can’t afford to buy a house because the house marketing is 3 times the price compared to USA. The houses have shitty materials compared to my original country, and you simply can’t built by your own and that’s why every price rises.\nAnother issue you didn’t mention it’s there is no scholarships, it’s incredible expensive to get a proper education like university, and even so, they no offered scholarships. In Mexico almost everyone can reach the opportunity to study to be anything (lawyers, doctors) AND there is why you can get professional services everywhere. Here in Canada the business never have profesional services (like a real Human Resources, who studies for 5 years to be the best influence in a company, or a real engineering taking care of the machines in a plant. Canada only hire the cheap hand to avoid paying and I can understand it, but if more people could study more money moves in the country.\nAnother issue is there is not any public transportation into the cities or provinces, so if you don’t have a car, a driver license (it’s not easy to get one) and pay the super expensive insurance (it’s incredible 10 times more expensive than in Mexico) your can’t move from the place you are. Because of the weather you simply can’t move in a bike.\nPeople live just for pay rent, buy some groceries and buy some pre owned cloths in the thrift store.\nAnother problem it’s many rules to open a small bussines (like selling some food) \nHealth care it’s not exactly free: you need to pay for your prescriptions out of the hospital or if you never been hospitalized. And it’s very expensive to pay for them. A compelling documentary, thank you. Why is it that black people continue to be so demonised and de-humanised? It is such a shame that follow Asians and even American Natives play such a role in perpetuating racism against African descent people, but I guess they have their issues of identity. Real shame nonetheless, but one thing at the time, we still have a bigger hurdle to overcome.\n \nOf course, it is still not easy to be a black woman, man or child today. Sadly our mothers are still crying for their children being killed or overly punished by the police institution, our kids are still targeted if not simply despised for being beautiful, bright, talented, lively and brilliant beings with deeper skin tonalities, and hair that speaks for us otherwise. It is still dangerous because there is so much hatred across the world against us as we are coming to understand. And hatred is unpredictable. It comes in different ugly shapes. \n\nAfrican descent people are institutionally exposed to a lack of opportunities based on race, leading to the disproportionate poverty levels in our communities, and poverty brings your far closer to crime. That should not be so difficult to calculate. We're faced with higher mortality and disease rates, covid 19 has rubbed that to our eyes, care systems medical world is in less favour and neglect black communities. On a day-to-day, I am so insulted about the security guard that follows me in the shop, it is so disrespectful and embarrassing, that makes me move suspiciously indeed, yet so low and ignorant I don't even want to have to confront the issue. \n\nI agree with the writer who writes about his experience (and shame?) of being a black man in Canada- the same is institutionally reflected in Europe and across the world let's not be naive, we're not welcome but they should know they have no choice. But, we also are doctors, politicians, judges nurses, waiters, carers, scientists, builders, bankers, entrepreneurs, employees or unemployed. \n\nSadly on a day-to-day, we are not viewed as equal people, with equal rights and needs, who, by large, just want the good for our children, our families, neighbours and indeed countries. STOP INSTITUTIONAL RACISM. We are real mothers, real fathers, real children who have a birthright to equal treatment, respect and human dignity, whether or not you choose to disagree.

Uneducated people are everywhere but Karens feel proud of that. Karens love to face hate and insult to them but unfortunately, Indians moving outside of India are not like that. And remember Karens, don't ever dream of locking horns with a Sikh guy, they are polite and friendly but if infuriated, can make your entire life a living hell. The first step before understanding a conflict, let alone trying to solve it, is listening. Bravo to CBC for giving a voice to people who are in positions of leadership who represent the disenfranchised, the violated and the overlooked. One thing that can be frustrating about “not seeing a problem that doesn’t involves us immediately” is that we are locked in to our own worldview—and it’s frustrating to be asked to change something we ourselves don’t think needs fixing. The importance of just listening, and being witnesses to specific stories, human to human—and being reeducated on the lingering multi-generational consequences of past and current racism is what needs to be focused on, if you are an individual who feels like nothing is wrong. The task is merely to listen—and doubt your sense of comfort, satisfaction and preference for the status quo. Listening, and doubt can lead to change. Collective change can lead to understanding, and even, healing. It is so hard to doubt oneself at this level because “othering” is a very strong force in tribal instincts and dynamics. To be asked to let go of this seemingly real sense of self and group identity can be extremely unsettling, psychologically. I hope that is somehow helpful for people who are reading, in some way. I wish that our education not only reflected history accurately, but also made it mandatory to learn basic principles of psychology.
