Tariffs on Canada would likely reduce real gross domestic product to zero in 2025 if implemented beyond a year and lead to a 2% contraction in 2026 with a peak unemployment rate of more than 8%. Trump told Canada if you did TWO THINGS, there would be no tariffs on Canada. One, stop illegal immigrants from pouring into the USA from Canada. Two, stop illegal drugs from coming into the USA from Canada. Did Trudeau comply with President Trump's request? If so, there must be a lack of communication to verify what has transpired. If not, then Trump imposed tariffs for lack of compliance. Now, if Canada has already complied yet the Trump admin imposed tariffs anyway, then that is a slap in the face to our neighbors to the north and the American people should be outraged and let Trump know it.

The commentary here sounds so much like U.S. citizens griping, it's almost funny, but also sad. This is really sad becuase life after deportations is tough for somebody who was raised in USA. I was taken to the U.S. as a baby and grew up there, but at 19, I was sent back to Mexico—a country I had no memory of, no connections in, and barely spoke the language. There is in fact no actual housing shortage in the USA whatsoever. The problem is that that wealthy individuals have strong incentives to park excess capital in real estate and landlords have strong incentives to maintain asset values through cash flow potential (appraised through $/sq.ft rent revenues). What ends up happening in both cases is that you end up with lots of empty houses sitting collecting dust artificially gaining value due to scarcity, and with rentals, you end up with perpetually inflated rents and vacancy rates that are as high as a landlord can tolerate just to maintain the appearance of value to the lenders. Often these owners will borrow more money and use an apartment that might be 40% vacant as the collateral for the lender and go buy another building and so on. What people don't penalize is the fact that that 40% vacant building with 60% rented out at above fair value gets treated on the balance sheet to the bank as if its 90% rented out from an asset value perspective thereby setting the asset price artificially high. Simple legislation of the tax code can fix this issue and unlock lots of sidelined housing. All we have to do is progressively tax 2nd 3rd 4th ect. homes higher and higher rates that essentially cancel out the asset gains, and do something similar for vacant units in a apartment building. \nIts just at the core a case of the rich hoarding something that has been made artificially rare. On top of all of this, because of how valuable properties have become, there are now many interests that capitalize on the entire process of building new housing that make it ever more expensive. Our taxes are funding numerous regulators that stymie new development, while the developers have to then hire numerous attorneys and planners to pitch a project and litigate it through the cities to get approvals. This can take over 10 years in a major city. All this contributes to the ridiculous costs of building these days.

I immigrated to Canada in 1981 because I married a Canadian I should say French Canadian girl and it was just a better place for her to continue on with her background. We relocated to Ottawa which is bilingual and made it very easy for both of us to assimilate together. I moved back to the USA in 2006 to help my sick brother and move back again to Canada in 2016. I came back for many reasons. The political Edge in the united states, the guns out of control, the increased crime rate daily, in just too many people everywhere. Now I was living in the Tampa Bay area and a lot of the people come from out of state and out of country especially in the winter to spend their cold months in the sunshine. Some things I miss in the United States comes usually down to the cost of living. Unless you get sick. And I miss living by the Gulf of Mexico. Except during hurricane season. I prefer living in Canada only because it's a slower easier paced social environment. It has nowhere near the political stress that the United States has where it can almost be violent. Actually, where it has been violent. Revisit January 6th. Out of control guns with hot-headed men mostly can force you out as well and back to Canada. Canada's social structure and environment supersedes the United States tenfold. And of course as we get older, Healthcare is a priority. I'm thankful there's a place like Canada close to where I was born or I can spend the rest of my life enjoying it as opposed to looking over my shoulder constantly. I also find that Canadians have a huge appreciation of warm months. So many people are outside even when they are eating at restaurants. Because of the warmer months are so short, Canadians really take advantage of enjoying it and those months are never taken for granted. Winters in Ontario, like here in Ottawa, can be very cold once January and February come around. But once you make it into the middle of march, you can almost smell spring in the air and somewhere on the way. But there are those dreaded 8 weeks of oh my God ?
