So nice to hear a national leader speak so eloquently and coherently. He did not use any bullying or condescending words. Standing for Canada and loving America. Trump is for Putin instead of America's friends. This is really sad. Wake up America! What has happened to us?

Canadian here. Wake up Canadians. Many people are praising Trudeau for this speech. Don't. He is out as Liberal leader within the week. He doesn't have to follow through on anything he said. Plus, he just stated that he's smart enough to suggest that Trump just put a 25% tax on Canadian goods for Americans but he also thinks that you are dumb enough not to realize that he just put a 25% tax on Canadians for American goods. Trudeau basically created the situation for these tariffs (open border to let anyone come here). He loves this as he gets to take the apparent moral high ground for the first time in his life and wants this speech to be the way he is remembered rather than years of failing Canada. Forget about the last 9 years and vote Liberal if you are a fool.

Oh, my goodness, it's so refreshing to hear a country leader speak a coherent sentence, a coherent thought structure, zero vanity tripping, berating opponents, finger-wagging, screeching accusations, tantrums. And then in a second language!!! Just because I'm not one of HIS fans, I am however a massive fan of Canada. I support Canada in this situation 100%. A trade war IS dumb, and even dumber with your closest ally and neighbor. Dumb and Dumber all in one go.... wowzah....so much winning?.

Personality is not withstanding please pay attention all Americans. I’m Canadian. My family have always been Liberals but I’m not much of a Trudeau fan myself. For today, it doesn’t matter whether you like the man or not, Trudeau deserves a standing ovation for his speech and the actions he is taking. That’s what a leader of a country should sound like and react like. It’s going to be a tough road ahead for us but together we will pull through this. Stay strong my fellow Canadians, we got this. ❤

This is what a leader of the free world sounds like: Level-headed, expressive, factual, referencing trade agreements, how we have met your demands and good sentiments about working together to solve problems. I have always been a proud American citizen. My paternal side of my family has been traced back to the Mayflower and I have ancestors and family that have served in the Revolutionary War, the American Civil War, WWl, WWll, Vietnam, the Gulf, and Afghanistan. This country has made many mistakes and has had much shame throughout its existence for various things but this is the first time and U.S. president has turned his back on our friends and allies in favor of an evil authoritarian leader named Vladimir Putin who strokes his massive ego and gives him elusions of power and respect from Putin when in reality Putin is playing Trump like a fiddle. The New York Times was not right. Donald Trump is not a bright guy. I stand strongly with my friends in Canada ??.

That said, I for one salute the first world leader to stand his ground, speak the truth and not pander to Trumps bullying strategy. I have not witnessed any other world leader speak in this manner.
