I agree that we need to be discerning to risky people, and there needs to be limits. But this is an emergency situation! We need to help good people who are at risk and just wanting a better life! I was the lawyer invited to this interview, and after reading some comments celebrating the end of the PEQ, I feel the need to clarify a few things. The people affected by this are not “abusing the system.” this was the program for people that came here legally and are working. To qualify for the PEQ, they had to be working full time, they pay taxes, they speak the language. They’re fixing our roads, keeping hospitals running, welding, machining, doing the jobs most of us take for granted every single day. The hard truth is that Canadians have stopped having enough children, and we simply don’t have enough young people with the skills to fill these roles. Yes, we absolutely should invest more in education and trade programs for our youth — my employer clients are begging young people to become mechanics, welders, skilled workers, often in the regions. Most don’t take those jobs, and even when they do, training takes two to three years. Our industries need people now, or parts of the economy will stall, and that affects all of us as Quebecers and Canadians. These workers are not asking for charity. They are already on the front lines keeping key sectors alive. Ending programs like the PEQ doesn’t punish “illegals” or “free riders”; it punishes people who are already integrated, working, and contributing to the society we all share. Also, all they are asking is for the new rules to not be applied to them retroactively, only for those coming new into the country, otherwise it is rug pulling those already here that played by the rules, and when the government does it to us we don't like, on principle of fairness, whatever you think of the numbers, too high too low, doesn't matters, it is the least we can all get behind as humans.

My issue with immigration to Ontario and urban sprawl, is that this area is some of the most fertile farmland in Canada. The only part of Canada you can grow fruits profitably besides apples. If we are going to need immigration to support the elderly in retirement in Canada then we should at least build up and not give everyone a house. In highly populated areas like this more emphasis needs to be placed on high rise apartments to free up farmland. Immigrants pay a butload of taxes. It is a double edged sword.

We dont need a single international student or study permit type of fellow. Get them all out and close the doors to new entries. As a Brampton raised kid, I lived there from 97' till about 2023, I'm caribbean and we have a large indian/muslim/hindu population too on our island. (Trinidad) and the issue with Brampton is: Indian people will gladly intergrade, but Canadian borns won't welcome it. Walk with me- I'll use food for an example. Every other grocery store is middle eastern/asian/african in Brampton and its becomes harder finding more western style food. I love international food, I cook it often but if you're used to burgers and pizza and only know how to make spaghetti it feels like a 'take over' These people want what they want and even though all these places are free for you to also enjoy they don't like it cause it's too 'foreign' to them. It doesn't mean there isnt still a No Frills or a Walmart or Metro, but because the african and halal store are closer and more frequent it seems like more of a convenience to others and not to you. When people say we're multi-cultural, they mean 'yeah he's brown or black but he keeps it to himself' They aren't going to go to that Sikh temple giving free food, and only go to the church at the beginning even though they're welcome to both. It's the same for Diwali and other things, white people dont care to be interested in those things, and just wonder why they get to have it at all. I do agree with that indian lady at the beginning though, with lax immigration you come in feeling like you don't need to do anything to assimilate. They're doing themselves a disservice by only helping themselves. Canada’s government needs to check also about issuing the driver license. because i’ve heard that you can pay now to pass the driving test even all this people doesn’t know the rules or even following all the signs on the road. Well, I'm gonna give you Canada Immigration an advice on how to catch these people and all those in other countries who has the same situation. These people are doing jobs like delivery like Uber, Skip, Doordash, etc., BUT...they are not using their legal name to apply for that instead they are using another person's account to do that job, whose account is legal and had been in the job for so many years. The connection between those people is not relevant to any gang or organizations but they operate like one, the advantage is both parties earn money while in their eyes is "legal". This is normal settings in my country(3rd world country), you have several taxis and you need to hire drivers to operate, its up to you if you're gonna hire legit drivers or not, the only difference is that the undocumented driver is cheaper. And how do I know these things, I work in a fastfood chain in Waterloo, you need to identify which order the driver will pickup and the delivery driver need to verify the order by the order number through the app but sometimes you can see the Account's photo is different from the delivery driver, so yeah, that's the gist of it. I have no idea why modern countries like Canada and America are so "dumb" or lack of critical thinking when it comes to crimes like this, but I guess people and politicians are the same all over the world. And now, they are bringing more people without checking their background, if there's any criminal record or such, oh yeah, speaking of that, how do you verify those records from another country if those records can be produced with 3rd party company in which an employee from a government institution is behind it to make it more look like it is legit.

We absolutely do have an immigration problem, I’d say time to turn the tap off, and get on the ones here about status, BUT we cannot allow what has been happening in the states, anyone with a brain can see what the USA has become these days (government wise) But a controlled program without liberals and conservatives talking it into the ground. I can understand the immigration problem in your country. The problem I have is where people would use immigration as a cover for being racist. If you want to assimilate immigrants in your country, it would take a while. They will need time and patience. Likely their children will be more assimilated if they were young or born there. A lot of immigrants who are white in your country and your history likely took time for them to assimilate. But their children were likely already assimilated. I love Punjabis. They are the most humble and kind people to be around. Chardi Kala high spirits all around. I feel very good around them and don't feel judged. Being myself feels ok around them. They like to to take care of others. They will commonly ask you if you are OK and need water, food, anything. As a person living in India, my appeal to the Canadian people is don't let "asylum seekers" from India into your country without proper vetting. Legal migration of skilled labour is one thing you shouldn't be looking out for. They're already westernized. What you need to look out for are those that immigrated illegally. Liberals don't see migrants as a problem because they fall back on the reality that Canada was built with the help of immigrants. But that was a long time ago. We are no longer in need of mass migration as we already have a developed country. I grew up with integration that I LOVED, met people from all over the world. I've been working since I was 14 I've worked for people from all over the world , rented from different people since I was 18 and learned great things I can add to my construction or cooking repertoire that you could possibly couldn't learn in the West without diversity. Culture is a tricky thing. Is it not a known fact that one may not be all that interested in their culture and religion in their country of origin, but once immigrated to a different land, these same people become more attached to their original culture and religion, even more orthodox in their beliefs. They try to recreate what is familar. Why are we surprised most are not assimilating? It takes, for most, many generations. And even then. Immigrants will always, in one way or another affect change in the general culture. Think of different cuisine, the arts, influences on our beliefs, etc. What is a Canadian anyways? One who lives here? Who pays taxes here? How long of roots do you need to have before you are no longer called an immigrant? We have a very large country and from one community to another there is a difference in the culture. Perhaps we need to be clearer on what is in fact our highest Canadian values and communicate them more effectively. I would also like to add that there is suffering in not being able to pass on your culture. Watching your children and grandchildren speaking a different language, not having them understand yours enough for you to enjoy signing traditional songs to, not being able to guide them in your religious beliefs, etc., in the name of them becoming assimilated. I am experiencing these and my roots go back over 400 years on this land.

I like you & your attitude about coming to Canada. I’m subscribing. I feel for the young girl looking for a job. There are tons of jobs on indeed in my city. I apply for both part & full time. I apply for at least 10-20 a day. I’m not getting calls for interviews. I’ve even applied twice to one job because I was not chosen but 2 weeks later the same position was back. I’m fortunate enough to not have to work. I have a husband that makes a very good salary that pays for all of the bills , groceries & vacations. Up until Covid collapsed my 2 franchises & I was sinking more money in than making it I had to sell one for 1/3 of what I paid for it & give the other away. I started a small business at home doing lash extensions. I have my regular clients. But if I want to save my own money it’s not sustainable or steady. I want to work because I enjoy leaving my home not to just go grocery shopping or visit family. That’s even if they are home from work. I like having a purpose. I’m skilled in accounting, cleaning, sales, marketing, customer service you name it. Many might say that I’m very lucky. I am very blessed but it’s also very lonely. Plus I have always worked & had independence. I hate asking my husband to send me money so I can pay my cell, credit card bills. I don’t even go shopping without him for new clothes because I rely on him to pay for those too. Hypothetically we broke up tomorrow I’d be screwed. I worry about if he dies. There’s life insurance but we still have a mortgage to pay & monthly bills. Plus of course I’d make sure his kids got some too. Not to mention I’ve had mental health struggles with social anxiety & agoraphobia years ago. The more I stay home the more I get anxious about going out. Days can get boring & then I find myself napping all afternoon. I need a job. I just want my own money. I don’t want to go to my husband every 3 months & ask him to send me 2000.00 to clear up my overdraft for one business day. I don’t even want to have to use it. Sorry for the rant but I feel that even when filing out applications many times I’m asked if I’m racialized. In other words is my skin brown.
