I am Canadian and conservative. It is sad to see that the Western world can no longer see the US as a reliable and trustworthy ally. I hurt just writing this. I hope conservative Americans will wake up and see that they were mislead and that Trump is a dictator in the making.

The US isn't launching a trade war against anyone. We are closing up shop and are getting ready to take care of our own. There is a massive difference. We cannot be expected to continue supporting other countries economies and defense obligations, when we have 2 generations of working class citizens unable to afford a home or have children. We have entire countries we could fill with the homeless and incarcerated, and veterans who see little to no positive treatment or respect within the job market. Things are already very very bad here in the states. I don't think many Americans realize how bad the economy is. Tariffs will force US companies to reduce the outsourcing of jobs, and force other countries who are over-reliant on trade from the States, to cultivate their own self-sufficiency. This may seem hypocritical when it comes to China, but that isn't a problem you can solve overnight. \n\nTo make it clear, Americans are going to suffer in the wake of this tariff decision, but that is the price we pay to force ourselves to change. We have made ourselves into a very weak country because of overreliance on other countries trade, and other countries overreliance on our intelligence, infrastructure, medical advancements, technological advancements, and defense capabilities. The american consumer and taxpayer front the bills for all of this, and they are suffering. This isn't a war on the rest of the world. It us telling everyone else that we can no longer be relied upon because we are weak. \n\nI didnt' even vote Trump the first two times he ran. But things have now gotten so bad that I was forced into voting for him this time. Why? Because he's a bull in a china shop. I expect him to tear every damn thing apart he can within our government. I want everything destroyed so it can be rebuilt by people who aren't complacent.

The majority of Canadians no longer trust Trudeau or his liberal cronies. He has prorouged our government to tie our hands behind our backs. Do you people understand what that means? It means Canadians no longer have a voice or a vote. Of course CNN fake news is promoting this bs and the lies because he pays them. I’m not particularly a savvy political person, but even I could see this coming. Trump/Musk have chosen to start a war against our own people & isolating us from allies & neighbors is a particularly bad move. Who will defend us against Russian aggression when we have no allies & friends left. And make no mistake-this fits right into Putin’s plans. If The US is no longer able to stand against him, who will? It has been a balance of power that has kept democracy flourishing and given Americans so much freedom & prosperity. Trump/Musk are nothing but greedy fools who will end up destroying our country. ???

As a Canadian I can tell you that the US is no longer a friend. I doubt the US is even an ally anymore. You're a neighbour and that's it. The less we have to do with your country, the better. We will be boycotting your goods as much as possible and we will be avoiding travel to your country.

I am Canadian, and I want to speak to the USA, as a concerned citizen who valued the relationship that we once had between our two countries: please realize that we do NOT want to declare this as any form of “attack”, that these are solely defensive measures against your current administration’s lack of respect towards us as a people and as a country. \n\nPlease rest assured that we KNOW that not all of you voted for Trump, that there are those of you who realize what your current president is truly doing and do not support it. This is NOT about fentanyl. This NOT about money and how much each country was giving whom. We had a respectable trade deal that we were following, previously signed by Trump. We have always had a positive relationship together, business-wise and friendship-wise. Please also realize that, once your administration is no longer in control of our narratives in such a destructive manner, or it gets replaced by one that reverses this destructive policy, we will definitely reconsider our former relationship and we will work towards rebuilding it. \n\nIt is unfortunate for both sides here. We are aware of that. But “Canada Strong” is our way to remain forever a sovereign and free nation. Nothing more, nothing less. Always remember that.

I used to be a huge fan of America. I truly believed it was the world’s policeman, the guiding force for justice and freedom. I looked up to the country, admiring its strength, its values, and the way it stood for what was right. And just a reminder for everybody. The United States guaranteed Ukrainian independence after it split with Russia. I guess America is no longer a reliable partner. There's many reasons not to like Trudeau up here in Canada, many of which are the reason he'll (rightfully) no longer be the PM next week. As a conservative I hated him for SNC-Lavalin (among other scandals), and the fact that his inexperience with the economy Harper left him is probably part of why this trade war is going to hurt more than it could have, and the fact that he's often been kind of a phony more concerned with looking and sounding good for the press cameras. Not this time. Nothing phony here; I've got to give credit to him for capturing the national mood pretty much perfectly with this speech. Good on him. \n\nAnd congratulations as well to Donald for pretty much handing the Liberals their best shot at a fourth term, too. What an absolute idiot. Normally I'd turn my nose up at having to vote Liberal, but I am so, so sick of the brand of empty populism Trump stands for that it looks like that's what I'm gonna be doing come election time.

Germany also has an answer to the USA. An hour ago, it was announced at a press conference that Germany is spending 530 billion dollars on research, innovation and infrastructure. And there is no longer a limit for the defense budget. Thanks to the low national debt. While the US government is making cuts everywhere in these sectors.

I’ve been predicting this since two years ago, this is my assessment for the near future: Putin’s euphoria about the USA abandoning Ukraine will be short lived. The EU is determined to finish the job in Ukraine. And it has three powerful triumph cards ?: 1. the $300billion Putin’s frozen money 2. The EU has an enormous capacity to build weapons in short time. Germany built 6 liquefied natural gas docking stations in 6 months, a world’s record. Ukraine has demonstrated that Russia is a paper tiger. Its drones have devastated not only the Russian tanks, but the oil refineries. Imagine if the E5 army (Germany, the UK, France, Poland and Italy) start producing weapons? Which they will. But the current weapons are ( the typhoon, grippen, mirage, Rafale ) more sophisticated than the old mig29 or the useless Su57. Russia doesn’t dare to try to dominate the Ukrainian airspace. And Ukraine, without a navy, destroyed 40% of the Russian Black Sea Fleet. Even the flagship Moskva!! 3. But the most powerful weapon that the European Union has is the Almighty stable euro. The United States has been printing trillions of dollars and exporting them for years, they’re hiding under the mattresses of Third World countries for a rainy day. If the EU says we no longer will accept dollars, the United States will disappear overnight. The BRICS countries will pile up on the USA, which will be alone in the world. Hyperinflation and poverty will be the result. This ability to weaken the USA economy and currency, By simply saying we want to move away from that currency, will make Wall Street run away from it. All you had to do was protect the border and lower the many tariffs you have on US goods. Over a million people in the US have died due to fentanyl and the human trafficking. Canada and its bureaucratic masters are realizing that America no longer wants to be part of the new world order and global elite bureaucratic government. The US is 37 trillion in debt we are currently dismantling our own corrupt bureaucracy and ending the Hegemony to focus on America first instead of policing the world for the elites. Canada, Mexico and the EU better adjust because no more handouts are coming we simply can't afford it.

The problem as I see it, is that responding in kind to Trump like this is possibly to invite an invasion, justified by Trump claiming that Canadian assets are essential to US national security. It's hard to parse the provocation from the US as anything less than a pretext to eventually try and annexe Canada. Maybe Russia will attack the Baltics at the same time. It's becoming increasingly obvious that the US Government is no longer a friend to the free world.

The U.S. hasn’t fallen in a blaze. It’s crumbling quietly, a victim of divide and conquer.

Interdiction is a nobel cause, but cannot work. All joking aside, Canada has been able to form a symbiotic relationship of mutual benefit with the United States since even before NAFTA 1. But.......... right now it is almost like a 51st state and I do not mean that in a joking way. US states are always competing with each other, but what prevents things like, oh say the American Civil war from happening is the Federal apparatus keeps them in line for the good of the empire as a whole. \n\n If Canada is like a 51st state, then it is competing with the other 50 states in a way that all 50 of them are going to get upset about. So either the states complain, or you treat Canada as an economic competitor. Mexico being behind the United States and Canada is what makes it a good candidate for a symbiotic relationship. For all its problems, Mexico has a Christian population (with some indigenous traits) that goes well with America. Their nations different economic status means we can support them and they can support us doing different things for countries of different development stages.\n\nCanada being so similar to the United States will want that as well and will never outbid the United States. In case anyone is wondering why so many Indians are trying to flee Canada here it is. Under Trudeau and the liberal government Canada was basically giving a free pass to anyone who wants to come to Canada through colleges and universities, if you get into a Canadian school, you can get a study permit (which also allows you to work for 20h a week). Additionally after the schooling you are given a guaranteed work permit for the same duration as the schooling (if you went to school 2 years you get a 2 year permit, 4 years you get a 4 year permit, ect.) A Canada and immigration agencies (for some reason) basically advertised this to India as a guaranteed way to get permanent residence in Canada. Canadians hated the massive flood of people coming into Canada (about a million a year at its peak, which for a smaller country like canada is equivalent to 10 million people coming into the USA every year). This is really unpopular with voters of course (in part because of the housing, food, and low skill work shortages it created), and the next Canadian election is this year. So the conservative government has vowed to massivly decrease the number of immigrants coming into Canada and the Liberal government knowing that this can be used against them in the next election is decreasing the amount of PR cards they are given (like a Canadian green card) as well as the people they are letting in in total. Now as the (mostly Indian) immigrants work permits expire and they will soon be kicked out of the country or no longer legally be allowed to work, they are fleeing to NYC to try to take advantage of the sanctuary city (something that does not exist in Canada).

This was always going to occur. Shut down the southern border and people will try to get in through the north. As I understand it, we don't have the same deportation laws with Canada as we do with Mexico. This needs to be dealt with and Canada needs to step up. I live in a norther border state and my younger brother died of fentanyl. I am fed up with it. A lot of us Americans remember learning about the tariff wars in history class that ended up in deciding fair trade was the better route. I fear we’re about to learn the same lesson again…\n\nAs far as the drug trade goes apparently the GOV doesn’t spend enough time on the internet because the cartels are no longer just in Mexico they’re in the USA and in Canada. They have learned the Canadian border is a lot easier to cross and they can get into BC pretty easily due to relaxed immigration policies In Canada.. they probably don’t actually know where the drugs are coming from or where they’re being manufactured entirely. The cartels are probably a step ahead of them at the moment. \n\nI can’t believe the auto industry lobbyists were not instructed to go full send on the detriment of the opposite position taken from the NAFTA. If Trump was really smart he’d convince some factories to actually invest in Mexico with cooperation from the Mexican government investing in efficient transportation from the manufacturing sectors to the American border and the coasts for distribution. This would likely really help their economy and change the whole dynamic of all the things Trump has issues with. Fix it at the source not try to treat the symptoms.

Everyone needs to remember there is legal immigration and illegal immigration. President Trump’s wife is from Slovenia now a US citizen, while the Vice President Vance ‘s wife’s family would have originated from the Indian Sub Continent. American Nationality is a social construct you either qualify for it or you don’t. I don’t understand these individuals who enter a country illegally or legally and over stay the period stamped on their Passport. If you are stamped for 28 days you stay for no more than 28 days if on a 6 month visa you stay no longer than the visa. \n\nIt is what I would expert if I went to any other country, unless you are invading in the armed services of a country and you would be seen as an invader by that country, anyone who enters a country illegally or over stays their passport time is an invader and should be treated the same way and expelled.
